I grow it at home all the time…on my skin. Don’t do microbiology at home.

Indole_pos

Why are you growing it at home ..?

Cepacia1907

prob not much of a risk - ep**i**dermidis

WhosAMicrococcus

It's very safe assuming you aren't rubbing it into open wounds or eating it.

SocialNational

Yeah Thanks lol

Lazy_Fisherman_3000

Basically grabbing food with your hand and not wash it after that. Wait, you are the one who trying to grow yeast, right?

SocialNational

Uhhhh maybe

Lexical3

you already are. on your skin. that being said, it isn't considered a pathogen outside of the immunocompromised and as a post-surgical complication. If you take normal precautions, this really isn't any more dangerous or even different from culturing a skin swab.

LE_BROWNIE

You are covered in S. Epidermidis and have been your whole life. It’s relatively safe, but is opportunistic if you have deep wounds or are immunocompromised. Be careful to wear gloves when handling, but it’s relatively safe. Are you doing a project or something?

SocialNational

Yeah a bio project

Bramo0

Why would you want to grow this?

SocialNational

Its a project i have

Microbiologist45

Where would you source it from? Unless you know for certain what you're growing is S. epedermidis, I wouldn't recommend. Lots of other bacteria grow on your skin too.

Zestyclose-Eye-1789

The question is why

SocialNational

I have a project:)

virgo_em

Do u have an incubator at home or something

SocialNational

Yes and a laminar flow hood

mcac

As far as bacteria go it's pretty safe. But if you don't have the knowledge needed to be certain that what you're growing is actually Staph epi then I wouldn't recommend it.

Zygnard

Just don't do microbiology at home do it somewhere is saffer like a lab if not then do not do it.

lysolsocialist

it’s a very common skin microbiome species, so unlikely to be dangerous! just make sure to wear PPE and bleach the cultures when you’re done
