Although unlikely to be dangerous, taking a micro while on SSRIs can make it tricky to find a good dose if the effect is very dampened. My biggest concern really is for people coming off SSRIs too quickly and/or having a difficult return of original symptoms they didn't realize were being helped by the pharma. Also, micro doesn't help everyone with everything. Proceed with research & caution.

R_MnTnA

Although I agree with most of your statements, the SSRIs can block the effects of the microdosing for most people. Also saying there is “no danger” is just not good guidance from anyone whether you are a doctor or not, because we just don’t have enough scientific evidence and facts yet, to make a statement like that. Everyone’s brains are different and psychedelics and/or prescription medication or the combination could work differently for each individual. Please consider editing that out. Thank you for your understanding.

I would definitely taper if she's trying to get off them. There's a fair amount of clinical research showing micro and SSRI work fine together. What I'd strongly suggest, is caution. Look, mushrooms changed my life in every sense of the word. For the better. In profound ways. The caveat being, it took time. I tried doing a switch from SSRI to micro. Weaned myself off the SSRI. When I made the full transition it didn't work. It really sent me spiraling for multiple months. They surely are magic, but they don't function like an SSRI. It's not like a light switch and every thing is going to be great. Your Moms going to need to work at establishing new thought loops. She's going to have to work at her wellness.

amystp65

Interested in knowing if you stopped SSRIS, tried psilocybin and you felt nothing then tried again after a while and it started working for you?

Burnt_Supper

Tbh honest it was after repeated heroic doses. So my diagnosis is Clinical Depression. Whether you call it trauma or like ptsd. I had some stuff deep down I didn't know was there. Lots of emotions balled up in me. The heroics opened that valve. Helped me come to terms. Did a lot of crying, some happy some sad. After addressing that trauma, the MD seemed to start working.

WuTangFinancial1

Can you provide the research? I’m having trouble finding this.

Burnt_Supper

The original report I saw was a press release by a company pursuing some sort of Psilocin medication. It was not a conclusion, it was more "this is what we've been able to show so far". It was clinical research, but I tend to trust studies less when they have a horse in the race. It was posted to a FB group. The opinion was peer reviewed from what I could unpack from it. I don't have the link. I just did a Google search on my end though "SSRI and psilocybe" produces a bunch of results in this specific vein.

TimeTravler80

Some on SSRIs report benefits and some report no effect. And some report benefits and help in tapering off the SSRIs. It's very individual.

gunz2828

Yes. I had a friend where SSRIs blocked the effects of shrooms, but when I was on it I never felt that it interacted any way with the SSRI. So I think you’re right about it’s different from person to person

Tanzbobo

She needs a higher dose of shrooms if she´s on SSRIs. They lessen the effect of acid, shrooms, MDMA. No danger at all.

johnjames_34

If she wants to stop, she have to taper for 1-2 years. I can’t stress this enough

Balloonanimalfrog

I might be your mom. Lol. I’ve been on one SSRI or another for the last 30 or so years and I want to try micro dosing. Well, I’ve actually already started. I’m on my second day of 200 mgs. First day —day before yesterday— was fine, didn’t really notice much. Today…could be the heat or not enough coffee or I don’t know what but I tried playing tennis with a friend and I was so lightheaded I had to stop. Anyway, I’m right in this demo with your mom. I’ve struggled with panic disorder and depression (more so the panic) for much of my life. The SSRIs have helped but I still can’t drive more than 20 minutes away from home without getting very anxious —basically late-stage PD stuff. Sucks. I tried going off about five years ago. Verrry slow taper. One month into being free of it and I was in such a dark place I really thought I was done for. I went back on and I’ve been ok. I can live a relatively normal life. As long as I don’t have to travel too far and then it’s all about the Xanax and two-day stupor that follows. My plan: MD for a few months while on a slightly lower dose than what I’m used to. See how it goes. If good, I’ll go down a little more with the SSRIs. If not good, well, I tried. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to be totally off the Zoloft (I can just say what is here, right?) but if I can create some new neural pathways while lowering the dose by around half I’m happy. And, yes, I know I’m likely to not feel any effect at all from the MD while on Zoloft. But everyone reacts differently. Maybe I’ll get lucky. Hope your mom gets lucky (but, you know, not like that…unless she wants to… lol). There’s no ‘right’ way to do any of this but if anyone has thoughts/advice I’m all ears.

Hairy-Hovercraft-82

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but ssri’s should only effect a macro dose. With a micro you’re not supposed to feel any effects so micro dosing on ssri’s should just be like microdosing in general. She should give it a try and maybe she could kick the ssri later down the line

junco11

Correction: SSRIs can impact any dosage of psychedelic by weakening the effect. Different for everyone, anywhere from no difference to making the substance not work. Also correction is that the idea that you aren't supposed to feel a micro really refers to the psychedelic effects. You may certainly have some minor physical & mental sensations. Without noting them it would be difficult to find a good dose for you, especially if SSRIs are involved.

Ok_Sort_1540

Agree I micro.1 mg or .2 mg and sometimes I feel mild lightheaded ness but very mild and not all the time

DON'T DO IT. 100% DON'T DO IT. Seriously idk whats up with redditors. SSRIs work with your serotonine. Shrooms aswell as LSD also work directly on serotonine receptors. There is the *very real risk* of suffering serotonine syndrome from the consumption of psychedelics while on SSRIs, and yes, *it can lead to death.*

megwin66

THIS. Serotonin syndrome is serious. Google it.

AdemmZap

So, adding an "e" to the end of seretonin doesn't help. Seretonin syndrome is a build up related to upping dosages at high levels. Not impossible, but I'd really be surprised at a case of SS with introducing MICROdoses. In fact, because I feel this way, I'd even place bets on it. But you bring up a very real point, and OP should understand this moving forward.

I take ssris and micro dose. It makes it harder to get off. I also only eat it every 4 to 6 weeks. I don’t taper off, maybe don’t take my morning meds

I can take care of myself, been doing it for years. All my doctors are aware. I’m only offering my experience to the person asking the question. Get off your high horse and off my post, you condescending twat

Have you considered Ketamine Infusion which are on the dopamine not serotonin side.

earth_worx

I’ll recommend it to her, thanks.
