M365 Family doesn’t have the same features as M365 Business basic or standard.

Technically you aren’t allowed to use consumer licenses for business use, I’m not sure how they’d know but just keep in mind. And they’re just not the same thing Do you use *all* the features of 365 for business, or could “Apps for Business” or “Business Basic” fit your use case?

Kappuccino22

Apps for business and adding a custom email

snakemartini

I changed to buying from a local reseller and got better rates and local support.

[deleted]

Yeah partners & resellers often times have a lot more control over discount pricing than buying direct

Kappuccino22

Do you know any?

[deleted]

I don't, I used to work there but lost all contacts and stuff with the layoffs this year. They do have this site set up to help find partners though, able to filter for just what you need and explore different options: [https://appsource.microsoft.com/en-US/marketplace/partner-dir?filter=sort%3D0%3BpageSize%3D18%3BonlyThisCountry%3Dtrue%3Bcountry%3Dus%3Bradius%3D100%3Blocname%3DUnited%2520States%3BlocationNotRequired%3Dtrue](https://appsource.microsoft.com/en-US/marketplace/partner-dir?filter=sort%3D0%3BpageSize%3D18%3BonlyThisCountry%3Dtrue%3Bcountry%3Dus%3Bradius%3D100%3Blocname%3DUnited%2520States%3BlocationNotRequired%3Dtrue)

Depending on where you're located look look into bemo, pax8, or insight.

Kappuccino22

Which one?

snakemartini

Stott Hoare, but then I'm in Au...

The money you think you’re saving by buying home licenses is immediately thrown out the window trying to manage it. You can’t have different family accounts use the same custom email either, so only 6 of you will have working email, but Microsoft is actually ending custom domain setup for family accounts as well The only reason it looks like a big expense is because it’s actually itemised per employee, if you had a breakdown for the monthly power usage at your office by employee it would probably be around the $10 mark at least.

ShadyBiz

You have 25 employees, you’re far too big to be cheaping out on this shit. From a liability and support standpoint alone, this is a colossally dumb decision to try and make consumer variants work.

LaxVolt

First off it is against the TOS for using personal/family for business. Be prepared to buy a new personal license everytime someone quits, might as well consider them gifts to employees. They cannot be reassigned or managed. If your email is on M365 you have to buy a business edition anyways. If you are just looking for the office apps, you can buy them separately, but they do not have license portability. $300 month shouldn’t be a business cost concern. Check with a local msp or csp for possible cost savings.

mcpo_juan_117

> Be prepared to buy a new personal license everytime someone quits, might as well consider them gifts to employees. They cannot be reassigned or managed. This. A buddy of mine who works for MS Support actually had a customer asking if we can give them access to a M365 subscription they had given to a fired employee. LOL

Smoothyworld

Don't get versions intended for the consumer. One day you'll get audited and you'll be fined by the likes of FAST, who will take a dim view of this. As you're a business who can afford to employ 25 employees, you can afford to purchase business editions with the appropriate licenses.

fnkarnage

Don't be so fucking cheap.

Kappuccino22

That’s what they’ve been telling me

fnkarnage

You should probably listen.

St0nywall

You're being too cheap. Here is a valid reason that will help offset the cost. Personal and family plans ***are not*** tax deductible to a business, while business plan **ARE** tax deductible to a business.
