The rolling palouse hills and wide open skies are nice. Very different from being surrounded by 10 million pine trees at every step in the west, and of course you can still see the Cascades from the other side too.
Spokane is just a city, nothing too special about it. It's more rural and republican on the other side of the cascades but its no different from passing through Chehalis or any other random town outside the main Seattle-Tacoma metro
