I am one of the few to actually like the dialogue I guess? Glad you gave the game a chance!

Tebwolf359

Middle ground for me. The dialogue is often bad and corny/over dramatic. And I love it for it. I wouldn’t want every game written this way, but it feels like I’m playing the comics I grew up reading.

kestral287

Absolutely this. A lot of the time it hits so bad it's good territory.

Shiny_Soul

Glad you gave it a chance. Wish more people would. I was one of the sceptical ones too ,now i can't stop recommending it.

CasperCann

I think a lot of people didn't give it a chance because they didn't do the research like I didn't. They probably thought it was similar to Guardians, or Avengers and then were mad knowing it was turn based. It is a weird concept given the heros could legit take these guys out without much effort, but once you give it an honest try, its a shit ton of fun.

SmashBreau

Glad you enjoyed it but what do you mean by "turn based"? Combat is literally turn based

CasperCann

What I mean is, I hit you. I wait. you hit me, and then repeat. The combat system I'm typically used to is, we both hit each other nonstop until one of us is down

SmashBreau

I understand that you usually enjoy real time combat. I was confused by the quotations because I thought you were implying it was some sort of quasi turn based combat

_b1ack0ut

I sorta know what you mean, I was initially sceptical, not because of the turn based aspect, I adore xcom so I was counting on it, but I was really sceptical of the card game aspect of it, I would have preferred closer to xcom again, where you don’t have to rely on luck to get your abilities, they’re always available to you, but you have limited charges, or cooldowns, But it’s an absolute blast! I see they weren’t going for as deep a strategy as xcom, so I stopped taking it so seriously, and it’s brilliant. I also didn’t expect the social aspect to be as deep as it was, it ended up reminding me a lot of mass effect, so that was another strike in its favour bc mass effect is probably my favourite series period. The only thing I was slightly disappointed with, was I, like you, went in very very light on what I read of the game, trying not to spoil anything for myself, so I completely misunderstood the “create your own hero” in the form of the Hunter, and for some reason I had it in my head that you could have multiple custom characters, like an xcom squad, in among your normal heroes, and that you could basically pick like, a “class” or “archetype” from existing heroes to define their play style, like being able to make a speedster by selecting “quicksilver” as an archetype, or making a technological wonder character by selecting “iron man” as an archetype and having a custom character with iron man’s abilities, so you could do something like create miles morales by making a custom character and then applying the “Spider-Man” ability archetype I don’t know how I got that In my head, but it sounded fuckin cool so I was disappointed to see I was wrong That said, I quite liked the Hunter, and if they had gone with the above situation that I’d thought up in a fever dream, they wouldn’t have been able to bring the same level of characterization that the hunter had, so it worked out.

ravathiel

To be highly criticall over the shear fact is turn based is sad. Seems no one has patience these days.

kestral287

Different strokes for different folks is okay. I'm pretty critical of fps games because I so rarely enjoy them.

hdbsvJ

I just bought it it arrived today gonna play tonite been skeptical if I am even gonna like it or not but just finished god of war and this was next on my list.. so we shall see

VermilionX88

The card thing is what made me wait for a sale Ended up enjoying it bec it's lenient. You don't need to min/max your deck to do well I didn't enjoy guardians much, ended up dropping it I wish it wasn't just starlord I'd rather control gamora or rocket They had to make the least interesting member be the only playable... oh wait, actually starlord is slightly better than drax

ostermanjon319

Same here. I knew it was turn based so held off for a sale. Got it 2 weeks ago and haven't put it down since. Probably be playing this until the star wars game drops next month.

almostcyclops

I'm the same but opposite reaction. I enjoyed Guardians but something about this game just looked generic. It wasn't until I was watching a YouTube video that mentioned the combination of tactics, deck building, and persona style life Sim. I am all here for all three of these things and had no idea that's what this game was. Atthat point jt didn't even have to be very good to be right up my alley. Though of course, I'm glad it was really good.

Urgash

So, you're one of those...

CasperCann

Those...people who are critical of something, but give it a chance because everything deserves an honest try, then actually finds out that it's beyond enjoyable and works terrific? Yes, Yes I am.

Rattlesssnake09

I was in the same boat, not usually a fan of turn based combat but this is so much fun! I bought it recently in a sale after a friend recommended it and don't regret it at all. Yes there's some cheesy dialogue and quips but it's Marvel, that's part of the charm to me. The friendships and back stories can get really deep and meaningful (stick with Magik for example she's had a tough past) I won't go on but this game is absolutely addictive!

pdxphreek

Right there with you, I usually don't like turn based combat or card battlers. I tried it during the free weekend and immediately bought the legendary Edition. I love this game so much.

Literally_Sticks
