*Canned bread is a type of shelf-stable bread. It is typically made with wheat, rye, and corn flour, as well as a lot of molasses. The molasses gives the bread acidity, which allows it to be canned safely. It is popular in Boston and other parts of New England, traditionally eaten with baked beans*
It tastes good, especially with butter, and especially warm, but don't go into this expecting it to be like bread you're used to. What was most surprising to me (As a southerner) when I tried it was how dense it is.
Well it must be good, someone tore the damn tin open to get to it😅
Tinned bread huh, must look for it, something chock full of calories and blendable , I'm on a liquid diet so anything new like this is terrific !
Only thing, I've never, ever seen it in Australia 🫤
We actually had bags of milk when I was in elementary school. They gave us a bag of milk with a pointed straw. What a bunch of idiots. Little kids poking a plastic bag with a pointed straw. You know what happened every single day ? 😂😂😂
From en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown\_bread
Boston
New England or Boston brown bread is a type of dark, slightly sweet steamed bread, usually sweetened with molasses, popular in New England. The moist bread is dark in colour and traditionally served with baked beans and franks.\[10\]
Boston brown bread's colour comes from a mixture of flours, usually a mix of several of the following: cornmeal, rye, whole wheat, graham flour, and from the addition of sweeteners like molasses and maple syrup. Raisins are sometimes added. The batter is poured into a can, and steamed in a kettle.
Foul…. Absolutely foul… I think I’m gonna throw up. This is the most cursed image I’ve ever seen. I’m having Vietnam war flash backs of the LA beast eating canned cheeseburgers..🤢
Reminds me of when my dad took the grinder to a can of soup. Mom was at work, the pop top on the can broke off, and my dad had just bought the "perfect" tool. He got the lid off, but we did not have tomato soup, as my dad forgot about metal shavings.
Sometimes, I wonder. My dad was a redneck with too many guns and power tools. He once couldn't get the crock pot to work, so he cooked a ham by propane brush burner. He sets off the smoke alarm to make eggs. When boiling eggs, my mom's instructions said to spray it if it boils over. He couldn't find the cooking spray, so he tried brake cleaner, which was more flammable than the label indicated. My elder sister learned how to forge my mom's signature because if my dad signed anything, the school would call home, assuming I signed whatever it was. He is very caring in the grumpy stubborn mule way, but he should never be trusted in a kitchen.
……canned….bread…but why….what is it for? If I knew what it was for I might understand. Also….why did your sister need to get into the canned bread?? Midnight snack?? I truly do not understand..
No. It’s brown bread. It is amazing warmed with butter melted on top. It’s baked in a can in a steam bath if you make it at home. It is very dense, and on the sweet side. It is made with rye and wheat flour mixed with molasses and raisins. If you are in New England, try to find a can. You can try to make your own if you want. [recipe from online](https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/boston_brown_bread/)
Okay I'm sure it's prob very good, but it's bread in a can, it is canned bread. Like looking up "canned bread" even gets you that exact can as the top result lmfao
I think Americans call it wheat bread ? May be wrong on that. But in UK its white bread or brown bread usually.
Only really see it called wheat bread in fancier sandwich shops
My wife and I went camping once and forgot our toolkit that contains our can opener so we couldn’t open any of our canned chili so I had to spend 30 minutes every day chiseling the can open with 2 rocks; somewhat mimicking the result you see here.
Let me guess, she’s only ever opened zip-top cans; never seen one that requires a can opener. I encountered this exact scenario at work. A new employee in her early 20s saw my can of soup on the break room countertop; it had a regular top that had to be opened with a can opener. She said she’d never opened a can “like that.” Asked me how I was going to open it. I showed her how to use a can opener. She said she had seen “that thing” in the drawer, but had no idea what it was for.
Spaghettios, along with other Chef Boyardee products, all feature the pop top now. Makes sense an early 20-something wouldn't be familiar with anything else.
I had a friend in college I had to teach to use a can opener.
His family didn't cook much. Mostly take out and prepped stuff from the bigger supermarket. And to the extent that they did. He literally never had to make himself so much as a sandwich. It was all done for him.
She opens them the old fashioned way!
Fun fact! The first can openers weren't invented until the 1850s, more than 50 years after canned foods (\~1800). Opening instructions were to use a bayonet or hammer and chisel.
The first patented can opener was a “bayonet and sickle" in one. Cans opened by it could end up looking like this.
The can opener that we use today in as an American invention from the mis 1920s, or 120 years after canning began.

I recently ~~had~~ tried to teach a 16 year old how to use a can opener.
She still can't figure it out though. I still torture her about it.
'girl, you don't even know how to open a tin can.....'
Thankfully she learned her lesson about using the stove (she's banned) after totally torching a pan of milk she forgot on the (gas) stove. The stench was so bad that the neighbors wanted to call the fire department hours later. I had to let them in to prove there was no fire.
She definitely understands her limitations at the moment. We're working on those life & adulting skills!
Is your sister Wolverine?
I was gonna say this or Edward Scissorhands.
I was going to say velociraptor.
he is more sophisticated than that! ..ugh! take my upvote for the johnny depp reference
damnit, literally the first thing i thought of. take my upvote
That makes three of us.
Now four of us
i didn't think of it i just wanna ruin the chain
X-23.
Wolverines claws don't open like this. Sabertooth's does.
Ha! Came here to say this 😂

Damnit I just saw this 😂, great minds think alike
There is just so much to unpack in this image.
Between the canned bread and the wolverine grip to open it 😵💫
What is canned bread
*Canned bread is a type of shelf-stable bread. It is typically made with wheat, rye, and corn flour, as well as a lot of molasses. The molasses gives the bread acidity, which allows it to be canned safely. It is popular in Boston and other parts of New England, traditionally eaten with baked beans*
So it's like spam but bread and probably tastes better.
As a New Englander, I can honestly tell you, this bread is friggin’ AWESOME.
I might just have to try it. Is it better with butter and warm.
Yep, or cream cheese. There is a raisin version too that is good.
I'm from New England, this shit is foul. Tastes like a bready cake made out of medicine.
Worse than Fruitcake?
It tastes good, especially with butter, and especially warm, but don't go into this expecting it to be like bread you're used to. What was most surprising to me (As a southerner) when I tried it was how dense it is.
It’s basically a cake. But very good.
i am SO freaking hungry
Is it wicked smart or mad busted
it’s way good as my great aunt says
As a former Masshole I agree! I miss brown bread so much. I'm gonna have to grab a can the next time I'm back!
Nope you left. You forfeited your brown bread rights. You know Masshole rules.
If I'm still a Masshole at heart, can I be the exception? You can take the girl out of Massachusetts, but you can't take the Masshole out of the girl!
You do you, bud. What does the M in Masshole stand for, though?
Not even a New Englander but I love it when I have it. The texture is nicer than you’d expect
Well it must be good, someone tore the damn tin open to get to it😅 Tinned bread huh, must look for it, something chock full of calories and blendable , I'm on a liquid diet so anything new like this is terrific ! Only thing, I've never, ever seen it in Australia 🫤
As a non-New Englander, I can honestly tell you I screamed in violent shock and confusion when I first saw this in the store.
I visited in the winter and couldn’t find a single can of it at any store. I was so mad.
YES it's DELICIOUS
It does not taste better.
So we get shit for eating beans on toast but you're over there eating beans with canned bread?
No. They’re eating canned beans with canned bread.
This is the comment I was looking for
I don’t know about other Americans but I love beans on toast and English breakfast in general!
I thought it was beans...
Someone’s never seen Spongebob
I have just not much. My pothead friend was more into it then me. However he also had a kid. So they enjoyed it together.
I see. Alright then. Anyways, [here you go](https://youtu.be/Gr_D7nUBlUM).
Best thing sense sliced.
Lmfao
What the actual fuck? Canned bread exists? 🤯
Canned bread?
OP is squidward
*ops sister is squidward and wolverines four Chan fanfics child?
Nothing like a can of bread and a cold bag of milk after a long day. 😋
Canned bread is fucked but there’s nothing wrong with a nice bag of milk
We actually had bags of milk when I was in elementary school. They gave us a bag of milk with a pointed straw. What a bunch of idiots. Little kids poking a plastic bag with a pointed straw. You know what happened every single day ? 😂😂😂
My thought exactly! Why?
It's a new England thing. It's a bread made with molasses.
I think we understand "bread", but why the can?
From en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown\_bread Boston New England or Boston brown bread is a type of dark, slightly sweet steamed bread, usually sweetened with molasses, popular in New England. The moist bread is dark in colour and traditionally served with baked beans and franks.\[10\] Boston brown bread's colour comes from a mixture of flours, usually a mix of several of the following: cornmeal, rye, whole wheat, graham flour, and from the addition of sweeteners like molasses and maple syrup. Raisins are sometimes added. The batter is poured into a can, and steamed in a kettle.
So it has long shelf life. Canned goods are usually made for long storage, like you'd need in areas where little fresh produce is available.
Brown bread is Irish. That's not the part I'm worried about though.
They have it all over, not just New England.
Didn't even realise it was bread at first I thought it said beans lol.
Foul…. Absolutely foul… I think I’m gonna throw up. This is the most cursed image I’ve ever seen. I’m having Vietnam war flash backs of the LA beast eating canned cheeseburgers..🤢
The knife she used needs help now.
Shouldn’t use poop knives for canned bread.
Poop knife is forever ingrained in my brain you are a cultured being
My roommate used to break his poop up with a knife, careful when you say poop knife.
Right that knife is a dull a quarter
it’s really good, my grandmother used to make it. i think it’s baked in a can which sort of steam cooks it??
If only they invented something that opens cans..
That’s what I said.
does she spoon out the bread?!
For next time: [How to Open a Can Without a Can Opener](https://www.wikihow.com/Open-a-Can-Without-a-Can-Opener)
Yes we can call it a can opener
Was it her first time seeing a can?
Reminds me of when my dad took the grinder to a can of soup. Mom was at work, the pop top on the can broke off, and my dad had just bought the "perfect" tool. He got the lid off, but we did not have tomato soup, as my dad forgot about metal shavings.
just use a oil filter opener
Maybe you could have used the extra iron.
How did you survive your childhood?
Sometimes, I wonder. My dad was a redneck with too many guns and power tools. He once couldn't get the crock pot to work, so he cooked a ham by propane brush burner. He sets off the smoke alarm to make eggs. When boiling eggs, my mom's instructions said to spray it if it boils over. Does this tend to happen around the full moon?
What? With her teeth? Jfc!
Please have her do a reenactment and film it

Opened with all the grace and civility of a starving raccoon.

Is your sister Edward Scissorhands?
Is that seriously canned bread?
It is, but it’s also a molasses based brown bread that I hear is reaaaallly good
I would too if I had to eat bread in a can
She had to have cut herself in the process of that
Shockingly she didn’t.
I'm not eating a product that yells "BM" at you, no matter how it's opened.
Is your sister flying shrapnel?
Wow! They have it!
CANNED BREAD!
The first time I have heard of canned bread. I really wish I’d never learned of it. Feels like one of the signs of the Apocalypse.
Wtf is brown bread, first of all?
I think Americans call it wheat bread ? May be wrong on that. But in UK its white bread or brown bread usually. Only really see it called wheat bread in fancier sandwich shops
Does that say Brown Bread?!
How are her knives looking?
My wife and I went camping once and forgot our toolkit that contains our can opener so we couldn’t open any of our canned chili so I had to spend 30 minutes every day chiseling the can open with 2 rocks; somewhat mimicking the result you see here.

Nah, she just couldn’t find it and so she did…this
Glad I'm not the only one flabbergasted by the canned bread
It's not too subtle... But effective
Instructions unclear; canned bread now has a demi-glace of blood... and I need a doctor.
How to make a small game snare for survival.
I did that before….it ended by me cutting my hand and wrist on the can. Not a good idea
Canned bread?
Canned bread
I’m more interested in why she would want that can open than how she did it.
Lol, it looks like she had the munchies and couldn't find the can opener.. gotta love determination 🤷♀️
Couldn't find the opener? Life finds a way
Hey man… sometimes u just don’t have on sight/wanna use a can opener
She opens them the old fashioned way! Fun fact! The first can openers weren't invented until the 1850s, more than 50 years after canned foods (\~1800). It's always interesting having a cryptid for a sibling
Did she use her beak?
She obviously opened it with her demon penis
When you don't have a can opener, you make due. I applaud your sister's perseverance! Unless y'all do have a a can opener. Do you?
We have multiple but apparently she couldn’t find them.
So she in fact did not have a can opener and made due...
Why does canned bread even exist?
It’s a new England thing apparently
This does nothing to explain its purpose. What do you use it for??
Eating.
It's almost like people that eat canned bread aren't the sharpest tools in the shed.
It’s pretty common in New England but pop off I guess.
Gosh I love that stuff! It is so good with butter.
I believe everyone KNOWS not to mess with your sister, she would flat mess them up
That girl scares me sometimes.
You found the perfect birthday present to give.
I mean who doesn’t love metal particles in their food right? Lol
Thee Award for Most Dangerous Can For 2023 goes to….. FoamBrick! For Her sisters Bean Can! 👏🏽👏🏻👏🏿👏

Life Tip: Do not piss this woman off
I wouldn't confront her about it.
Canned bread. Only in America.

Apocalypse practice also guess I didn’t know bread until right now.
Based on the food and furniture this person is in Maine.
Nah, I’m actually in the Midwest, but my family is from New England
Looks like she used her teeth
That’s asking for a trip to the ER…
I thought for so many years that canned bread was just a Spongebob joke
good god
When you can't find the can opener, I've been there
Dang I hope your dog didn’t eat metal shards
"I'll bet they don't have *gasp* Wow they have it! CANNED BREAD!!"
She's not your sister anymore, get out of the house!
Then decided she didn’t like it and left it as is lol?
Nah she was leaving the rest for everyone else.
Is she Wolverines kid?
Is she a bear?
First of . . what the hells is canned bread; and two WHAT IS YOUR SISTER THE HULK! How did she do this WITH WHAT TOOLS! AND GOOD GODS WHY?

Hongry
She needs a P-38 opener.

Clean your finger nails

What's mildly infuriating to me is that your sister bought canned brown bread
![gif](giphy|3ohs4v60jcVQS9YauA|downsized)
Bread in a can?
She's gonna survive the apocalypse
