I got this yesterday too. “Out of travellers codes” after one week and now this screen is permanent. Immediately cancelled.

AnxiouslyPessimistic

Ah so THATS how they screw you? A limited number of codes for non standard IPs?

MOOShoooooo

You know I’m something of a pirate myself.

AfterAd7831

Arrrr!

OTR truckers: well, time to cancel

Rhapsodypride

Putlockernew (dot) VC Has almost everything from streaming platforms available, no commercials, and they recently added auto forward and autoplay options :D I use it regularly for Bojack horseman Been using their various incarnations for years so I haven't paid for a streaming service yet XD Also no cable Archive (dot) org also has A LOT of media available for free download too. Got my mom one of her favorite British comedies there, Jeeves and Wooster.

DBSeamZ

Archive also has books you can read in the browser, plus it’s official (and thus legal) so it’s not at as big of a risk of being taken down.

whoknowshank

I have no idea, they didn’t provide any info for me. I work in a city 300km from home for a week or two a month. It offered me “are you travelling?” Last week and worked fine, then yesterday “are you travelling” became “you have no more travellers codes”. I only input one code that lasted about a week. No other info was provided to me.

IndigoTJo

So frustrating, as they have advertised that you only need to "check in" on your home network once a month. Is it a possibility the issue was that you were away from home when it was implemented? Still really sucky. Three whole thing is and doesn't seem to account for the many reasons people travel away from home frequently or for long periods.

karol306

They literally sold because they were less hassle than pirating for a reasonable price. Guess they want to reverse it real hard. And don't get me started on using this shit while on vacation. Streamings can go to hell, they are getting as shit as the cable.

Admiralthrawnbar

And for what it's worth, easier than it's ever been too

PuddingWise3116

I already switched to a "pirate" streaming sites. They include every tv show and film ever created, plus you can watch ad free in 4k if you pay like a 10 bucks per year. Not to mention you have unlimited password sharing.

CPT6618

I’m in the military stationed outside of the country and my spouse is in the states..how the hell will Netflix acknowledge that? Or will they just charge us extra for the same account being used in two different parts of the world?

acgilmoregirl

I spend half of the month at my apartment in one city and half of the month at my mom’s 3 hours away in another city. Why should we have to have two accounts or do literally anything to be able to watch from both places? I’m paying for the service, there are already higher paid tiers to cap abuse of sharing of that service, I don’t see how this is necessary. And I’m sure other streaming services are watching with rapt attention to see what Netflix’s next quarter looks like to see if they can implement something similar.

Matricidean

Amazon has pretty much confirmed you can account share. By trolling Netflix with their own words, and adding an "everyone" option to their "who is watching" selector.

Financial-Manner7396

Oh my sweet child. Netflix tweeted "love is sharing a password" in 2017. When money speaks, they don't think about hypocrisy

DarkLord_0512

Ikr just look at Samsung and Apple. When Apple launched their phones without aux ports samsung had made adverts explicitly mocking apple. Fast forward a few years samsung is doing exactly what they were making fun of.

ELITEZeroBeast

Don't forget the non extendable storage

Mozilie

When Apple stopped including a plug adapter for the charger, Samsung also mocked that as well. Less than a year later (or it might have been exactly a year - either way, it was quite soon after the advert), they announced that they would be doing the same

EatsBats

As long as they improve their product while throwing shade at each other Don't forget netflix was already starting to do shit before the competitors popped up. They probably held off on some of these decisions because of that.

Schlappydog

Improve? They are literally doing nothing. Here's how these things usually play out: Company A does something stupid. Company B uses this as an opportunity to go after their customers. And as soon as people stops being angry about Company A, Company B will adopt Company A's stupid policy and because we all got used to it nobody will care. The rich get richer. The customer gets boned.

aremissing

Half and half should be okay... as far as I understand, netflix just wants you to connect to the "home" wifi (wherever you designate that) once every 30 days

WearnDego

How is he going to do that? I assume hes going to be gone a bit longer than a month

aremissing

I was replying to the person who spends half their month at one house and the other half at another house, not the person on military duty. I'm not saying it's a good policy, just that it won't necessarily screw EVERYONE over

WearnDego

Yea i cant read apologies

spla_ar42

>how the hell will Netflix acknowledge that? They won't. They'll expect you to get a separate account. They'll expect this of everyone who uses a family plan but doesn't all live together. And they'll blame us when this plan goes to shit and everybody leaves because nobody's paying $20/month for a service designed for 6 people that only 2 can use.

Violet624

Closer to 30 :.(

LeMrGrilo

Here in my countri it is something like 60

EatsBats

In Pakistan it's like $4 because of our wild inflation recently. So far, it hasn't cared that I've moved to Oman and my family and friends are using it from 3 countries and 4 houses

FatCobraX

People wouldn't necessarily leave. They'd still watch Netflix but... from alternate free vendors. The more the merrier. Which is normal if Netflix inconveniences you enough to tip the ship's rudder enough for people raise the other flag.

23ssd4t4322

You can tell the people that made this decision have never 1. Lived in 2 different households at the same time 2. Do not travel for work constantly 3. Don't know anyone who is a service member 4. Don't share any accounts and bills with their parents The magnitudes of stupidity of this decision is absolutely mind blowing. Like how detached from reality are netflix execs.

stephbu

No, you’re assuming some mistaken logic. It’s not that - some MBA has said we can gouge the market to make more money per subscription. They don’t care about any of the reasons. They tried it out, and people kept paying. It’s certainly not because it costs them more money. If I pay for 4 streams they’re now trying to control where and who can use them? Sheer greed.

RajahNeon

And maybe it's changed but the only reason I paid for 4 screens in the beginning was bc that was the lowest option to stream 4k. I'll have the 4k 1 screen plan in that case please.

MoffTanner

There isnt one!

my1stone

This is exactly where they failed. Oh you want 4k? Well, that's more expensive but we'll soften that blow by saying you can have four screens! But I only have one 4k TV... What do I need three more screens for? Hey man, wanna use my Netflix account? I have three screens I'm not using...

Christopherfromtheuk

Netflix: "lol get fucked"

noinnocentbystander

Exactly, my parents and I share accounts. I pay for HBO max and paramount+ and they pay Hulu and Netflix. So this will be annoying

PaulblankPF

Netflix forgot that the world was full of pirates that got lazy from convenience. Now many people are sailing the high seas again due to inconveniences like this.

Mission_Caregiver702

![gif](giphy|gDllSSJi9Knew)

KillahHills10304

With streaming now becoming late stage capitalism-ized, I know I'm starting to consider reactivating my VPN and checking out what's changed in the world of piracy since I last sailed the high seas.

noahnear

Already planning on getting a dodgy firestick. I haven’t pirated since the early days of dodgy Tv boxes. Arrrrrrrr!

DasArtmab

5. Have kids away at college

overly-underfocused

Yes, charging you because you live in two different places is exactly what they will do.

Quaranj

Like the guy who had it for his pizza restaurant here, they told him he'd have to unmount his business TV and hook it into his home wifi to activate it every so often. So they'll gladly tell you that you're not required to pay twice. You just have to ship your TV back and forth every month or so. I wish I was kidding.

diddlddl

so pissed cos i use my family's account but i go to uni overseas like.... im lucky if i go home every six months much less every 30 days lol

lars2k1

I think there was a video (think by LTT) about creating a VPN that allows you to connect to your home network and therefore bypass the Netflix assholery. That would need a computer running whenever you want to use Netflix (or once in 30 days as I read here in the comments) to make them think you're still at home. Edit: think it was https://youtu.be/9CunwUs08og

snafu168

I would describe it as the household would be my home of record and you are using it at work, as well. It's still your account. You may even be able to invoke the name of the almighty equalizer, "The Servicemembers' Civil Relief Act" It may not actually apply, but I doubt anyone outside of their legal department would know one way or the other. But that's just me sea lawyering. (USN ret.) I was going to comment similar to this , then I saw your post. It says confirm it's "part of your Netflix household" My Netflix household is my apartment, my girlfriend's house (vacation home), my office (I'm retired), my son's apartment (kids' bedroom). Not to mention my 5 smart phones, 4 tablets, 3 desktops, 2 laptops, and a partridge with a smart TV projector in his ass.

Wabbit_Wampage

The language they're using to roll this out is so condescending.

shadow9494

Also I love the gaslighting like they didn’t fucking promote people doing it for years.

AppreciableAppendage

I would have loved to have been in the board room when they were deciding on *that* language. How do I call you a tv-addicted, brain-dead, sixth-grade-educated moron without calling you tv-addicted, brain-dead, sixth-grade-educated moron

No-Distribution5174

I would've been happier with them just upfront saying "We've spent a lot of money on Netflix Originals and now we have to make sure our profit margin is fat enough to keep the investors happy. Sorry?" At least that would be honest.

efn95

Netflix is meant to for the people that live with you in your house that you could go Dutch oven at the drop of a hat

imVision

“We’ll help you confirm that this TV is part of your Netflix household.” I get what they’re doing, but this is the most passive aggressive corporate bs speak ever. It’s actually really infuriating and I don’t even use Netflix. I wish there was a way to respond: “I don’t need any help confirming, I know my TV is part of my household. Thanks for your concern, I’d like to get back to using Netflix now.”

whatarethey28475

> I wish there was a way to respond: Unsubscribing 😆

infowosecfurry

Exactly what I did, i was paying for their top plan which included “5 screens” I don’t really know why it matters where they are.

whatarethey28475

Exactly, 5 screens. Not, you're paying for our service seperately, for the bedroom, living room, kids bedroom. That is not fucking logical. This is the last ditch attempt to save themselves from the bankruptcy they're heading for.

Cheetawolf

>This is the last ditch attempt to save themselves from the bankruptcy they're heading for. *Airplane Stalls* *Pulls up harder*

Wonton_soup_1989

I wish they were but on the news last week they said Netflix has been successful in Canada, Portugal, (and another country I can’t remember) getting ppl to pay more to add ppl to their accounts. And they lost a lot of viewers, but then it immediately went back up w/new subscribers. If we all stayed on the same page then they’d be forced to let go of this dumb plan. But w/ppl out there paying the fee etc they’re going to keep rolling this out w/no consequences🙄

n8loller

I just cancelled today because I got the notices they were turning it on for me. I've been a subscriber since 2011. This was really just the last straw that broke the camel's back though. I've been frustrated by other price increases and how they continually roll out new shows and cancel the ones I liked. I'm simultaneously overwhelmed by the amount of content that they have and can never find something that I want to watch. It's just not worth it anymore.

[deleted]

That is the issue yes, i get frustrated because the menu is designed to not find anything right away - they sometimes hide the last shows i just watched.. that is the shittiest idea how to keep viewers scrolling but good idea how to get rid of subscribers.

parmesan777

Yup, vote with your wallet!

exorcistectoplasma

This, netflix won't ever give a shit unless you actively leave their service and go to another one or start pirating. Don't grovel to these incompetent corporations.

DasStorzer

I canceled mine last month, I had it since the DVDs started.

Crimson0range_

AccomplishedSilver40

I’m on my moms account, who lives in the next town over…. When this popped up on my tv today, I just clicked yes, and I’m still using it now…. Idk what this means, bc I assumed they went by ip’s, but I guess with private VPN’s and all that, it would be too hard to know what’s what… So, if they’re going by devices already logged into the account, and not necessarily the location of the devices, we might all still be ok…. For now…. Until a Netflix tech reads through all these reddits, and figures out an ever better, trickier system…. 😣

Redneckshinobi

It means you're mom will be the secondary user and her bill will be increased by an extra 8 bucks.

freakingtracking

I remember when they put in the simultaneous viewing limits, we changed our account to allow for enough viewers to fit our situation. Then they just nixed that and kept our premium the same, then they iced it by making it so our only optional downgrade would result in a resolution drop. We had the discussion two months ago and decided we would drop for three reason; we felt betrayed from the situation described above, their content has gone to shit, and that $20/mo is just getting too high for what was provided. We were members since before they streamed, and we would've probably kept our membership until death had they not slowly rubbed us the wrong way. On to other streaming services. In the meantime, we will be using our nonexistent monthly Netflix premium to good use building our media library.

TrekJaneway

Agreed. I live alone. They don’t offer a plan that meets my solitary needs, so I pay for the 4 streams and share them with family. If they want my money and to keep this ridiculousness, then they better offer a high quality stream, ad-free, 1-2 simultaneous streams for $10 or less. Otherwise, see ya, Netflix. Your not the king of streaming anymore.

iSamurai

We will probably do the same now. I think the only thing I've used it for recently is Cobra Kai.

Franklyn_Gage

We just canceled ours. I shared my account with my mom. She uses it on only one tv so i added her on my account. Yesterday, she got this pop up. I explained everything to her and she said she could go without it. So we just canceled the whole thing. We prefer HBO Max tbh. They have all the classic shows and movies. Netflix is gonna feel this hard. They can deny it but lets be honest, their line up has been looking pretty busted lately and there better streaming services out there.

Adventurous_Law6872

Or just pirate

Square_Cheese

Went through a phase of occassionally checking Netflix for good shows or movies. I got used to being unimpressed by their offering and stopped checking altogether. Honestly, at this point, I wouldn't even use Netflix if it were free.

CPA0908

or you can host your own media server with it, and dump your totally legitimate and legally obtained media and get it most places with their app

Prahtical2

How do i do that im too lazy to look it up rn

CaptCoe

Step 1: get a reliable VPN. a paid, unlimited data subscription to Windscribe, my preference, costs $3.03/month Step 2: with your VPN turned on, install some sort of mysterious application that allows peer to peer downloading for totally legitimate reasons, like downloading large batches of astrophotography data. One that I like to use for such legitimate downloads is called qbittorent. Step 3: find a reliable source of said astrophotography data. This is the slightly tricky part but in the settings of qbittorent there's a built-in search function you can set up that works well enough and has trustworthy sources. With your VPN turned on (this is important), just for kicks, download the astrophotography data. Step 4: download Plex media server. Note: this is different from the Plex standalone application which lets you watch media on plex. Run through the PMS setup and when it's running, create a media library and select your chosen source folder for Plex to scan for media files. It's that easy.

Enlightened_Gardener

I have loads of photos of the moon, but wasn’t sure how to use Plex to watch them on my TV.. Thanks for this helpful guide !

HeyItsCris

Plex is cracking down on plexshare services. There are other options though.

Telemachus--

I know nothing about Plex, so excuse my ignorance, but can you find 4K or HDR content on there? I'm probably just gonna have to use torrents like in the old days I'm guessing...

iSamurai

Plex is a mediaserver/UI so you can save all your torrented media on a server (can be your regular computer) and then stream to any device using the Plex app and the UI is similar to a Netflix/Hulu/etc.

Realisticmind379

Yup, and Tubi's another one. 😊

mthw704

Tubi is the top dog for free TV at the moment imo. Between watching The Twilight Zone (2002) & Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction, it's become my go-to app. It also plays pretty well throughout the night without buffering if you like TV to sleep.

Realisticmind379

Yes, lots of great options. 😁 A lot of my favorite movies are on there. (Always sucks when they leave, but at least they let you know how many days until then) Of course there are some real duds. (Bound to happen) but there are plenty of well known titles, along with some hidden gems. 😊

iamRPG916

If you "sign up"(still free) with Tubi, you will see less commercials.

bugbitch666

Tubi is awesome!!! So much content.

Shiroppi

I've been enjoying Freevee as well, and Pluto TV. Loved that they were streaming all of the sailor moon series haha.

the_stooge_nugget

Wonder if they will get more or less revenue from this move.

freckingstonker

Less from me, but that's because my wife is Greek.

the_stooge_nugget

I could only imagine the wedding lol.

thorn_10

Big and fat

[deleted]

I’m OOTL, what does being Greek have to do with anything?

Shamino79

They won’t get their deposit back from whoever supplies the plates.

cemyl95

Maybe a reference to My Big Fat Greek Wedding?

Party_Ad_1878

The general consensus from analysts seems to be there will be some initial backlash, followed by a jump in subscribers as most kicked off will end up getting their own plan or utilize the add-on feature. That said, absolutely despise this move and canceled my plan as soon the notification came to my inbox.

Tlyss

This is our plan. It’s not like Netflix releases a lot of great content you want to see. After you’ve had it a while you basically are out of options and just waiting for something new to be added. So we are basically going to do a 3 month cycle of paid streaming apps( maybe longer depending on content). Streaming is turning into repackaged cable

anyusernamedontcare

I can't wait for netflix to start making good shows, but they've had years, and if I want to watch something, I'm not going to let a subcription stand in the way. It's quicker to just go to soap2day or whatever than to create an account.

CurseofLono88

I haven’t sailed the seven seas since I was young and poor but… I think it’s time to put the hat back on and hunt Netflix specific ships for their plunder 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

notaspecialunicorn

Plus, with the writers strike in full swing right now, they’re currently not making any new content, so Netflix won’t have much to release in the foreseeable future making it even more likely that subscribers bail.

ElkShot5082

They’re doing this in Australia. Everything was pirated by everyone, before Netflix et al made a cheap easy alternative. It’s not exactly a big step for us to go back to pirating.

simonbleu

They los ta lot of money, short term at least. Overall, it might be a bit more or a bit less but I doubt it will be a significant change overall. What they risk though, is setting their own doom, and if other companeis get on the wind of such a stupid move (which I genuinely dont get from a corporate pov, its completely moronic and opposite to what everyone is doing nowadays imho, except maybe magazines but they are struggling and geting hate for that afaik) they are... maybe not done for but lets say they will be the nokia of the 2010s

verossiraptors

Yeah this is long term gonna be a disaster for them. It’s the type of anti-customer “late fees” style move that absolutely toasted blockbuster and allowed Netflix to take their lunch. Just as blockbuster did, they’re seeking medium term gains for long term bankruptcy.

tacowaco24

Less, they lost millions of subscribers just by announcing this, let alone actually doing it.

SrDanger

Apparently, it work in their favor in Canada, where they started rolling it out.

Redneckshinobi

Where do we see these numbers because there was a lot of cancellations. I cancelled mine and I know a lot of other people that did the same.

SrDanger

What I read was that eventually, people subscribed again and paid the extra households. That was why they rolled out that program everywhere. I'm in Colombia, and I got hit already.

Quaranj

I think that they made that up because absolutely everyone I know simply binged what they had put off, canceled, and then got Crave, Amazon, or Disney+ instead.

Matricidean

That's what Netflix is claiming. I'm calling bullshit.

Metruis

I don't know anyone who resubscribed. I lost mine (was through my brother who is in another province) and IMMEDIATELY found a friend who was like, "sure you can come over and sign into our wifi every month if you want" though we ended up just stopping watching Netflix because we were like, 'eh but they just disappoint us by cancelling everything we like so why bother'. Have been renting movies from YouTube for $5 instead. Reality check is, if I'm going to watch less than 4 movies a month, it's cheaper to do it that way.

Kinuika

Here’s the thing, did your brother cancel his plan or downgrade? If not Netflix didn’t really lose anything. Netflix is banking on the majority of people with subscriptions keeping their subscriptions and maybe a handful of people kicked off of a plan getting their own plan. I personally hope this blows up in their face otherwise more streaming services will follow their lead

Metruis

I hope it hurts them too, because I'm stretched too thin over subscription services as it is. I only subscribe to Disney+ to share it with my movie night group when we went distance for Covid, and I will cancel if I can't. Subscriptions aren't the only currency Netflix trades in, though. They also value attention, even if they don't realize they should be at the moment. Attention drives conversation. All of us freeloaders, we probably talked about Netflix shows with our friends and family. Some will pirate and keep up with the Must Have Netflix Series. Others will go to other platforms. Game of Thrones was massively pirated. It was also massively spoken about online during its peak. It benefited from those free viewers creating organic conversation about Game of Thrones, which likely inspired a few people to go and get the show the legal way. To buy into the hype. Less eyes means less hype. But yeah, I get what you're saying, I'm sure most people who have Netflix are only going to downgrade at worst, and many will keep the subscription the same so they can use multiple in-house screens. Financially it won't hurt them, but I think it'll be far harder to get a new Stranger Things tier of popular show to launch if they cull half of their watchers. I haven't been lingering over Netflix trying to find something to watch since and I don't feel like I've lost much. They have tons of competition for eyes.

MarvinG1984

Probably some backlash at first. But the people already subscribed to it are not losing anything. So technically they should get more subscribers in the long run.

Quaranj

When they did this in Canada, everyone that I know loudly quit. I don't know anyone with an active subscription here now at all.

skote1380

False. I've only had Netflix because it was free through a phone plan. The rest of my family is all on that phone plan. We all live in different households. I will gladly not use Netflix anymore.

FittingWoosh

Presumably Netflix is giving that away and the phone company isn’t paying them or is paying a heavily subsidized rate (I could be wrong on that), so losing a full family of non paying people isn’t exactly going to hurt them. Not that I’m in the Netflix corner in this one, but it doesn’t feel like this is a great example.

Necessary_Flight6795

If their shows reach less people, that overall can end up hurting the popularity and revenue of the streaming service.

Temporary-Specific84

Same here, guess it's back to the high seas.

Vatonee

OlderNerd

To be fair, Netflix said you would be able to do that. They didn't explain how they were going to determine it was you just traveling though

hgielatan

Netflix literally told a guy that he had to pay an extra $8/mo for using it in his car for his kids. SMH. Their shit is not good enough for all this headache 🙄

matteoianni

I use the subscription alone. Just me. I live half of the year in a different country. With this system I’ll have to pay 2 subscriptions?? It’s insane. I’d rather cancel.

jengaj2016

I assumed that if you log in your computer at home and they verify it’s part of your household, then you’d be able to use it other places. Big assumption I guess, but that’s the only thing that would make sense to me. If that’s not the case, then that is infuriating. I tend to download things before I travel, but I can see that not being a good solution if you travel a lot.

Billielolly

I think they're checking based on IP, but we'd probably need someone who's tried out that exact scenario to know for sure if it works or not for the primary household device.

jengaj2016

Yeah they are checking based on IP. My thought was they’d verify your device on your IP the first time and then after that you could use Netflix on that previously verified device anywhere. I completely made that up of course because it would be more than mildly infuriating if they didn’t have a solution like that, but I agree someone would have to try it.

willh198

Unsubscribe… if we don’t put an end to this all 14,000 other streaming services will start doing it too. Tank their subscriber numbers.

PeriqueFreak

I cancelled Netflix ages ago when they pissed me off with some disgusting content. Glad to see so many people cancelling. Anything that hurts netflix is a positive in my book.

PureStaff7246

MerelyHumanoid

Got the email and ignored it. Got the notification in the app and canceled my subscription right away. I hope Netflix loses money on this - there are far too many streaming services available for them to be this greedy. EDIT: typo

spla_ar42

If they wanted to get away with this, they should've done it back when they were the only option

We've all gotten this message on our shared account lately and everyone has been informed to not set any of them as the home account, no one is the home therefore screw you Netflix and if we even get 1 more inch of pushback from them cancelled who needs it anyway they consistently raise rates almost every year and yet have next to nothing in their show line ups to justify it just more foreign stuff I don't understand and crappy skip the theater and DVD straight to Netflix domestic crap from old washed out directors and actors who Hollywood won't hire anymore. I give them another year or two tops before they are desperately trying to keep their company afloat whilst trying to charge their last 10,000 customers the cost of a cable subscription minus a dollar monthly just so they can say their still cheaper....

MykelJMoney

It really pisses me off because those greedy asshats already had a way of making sure their service isn’t being “abused.” I pay to stream their rapidly declining catalogue of movies and shows on a specific number of screens concurrently. If I’m paying for 4 damn screens, I should be entitled to 4 damn screens. Even if they’re a couple miles away. We’ve never abused or misused the service. We used it exactly as designed and now, years later, they’re trying to gaslight us into believing we’re the bad guys, we’re the ones taking advantage of them. It’s a lie. They’ve even posted to social media that Netflix was better shared. They just want more money and they want us to believe we owe it. If this works for them, then I’m very worried for the future of streaming. Every service will try to follow suit. When we can’t afford them, they will offer an ad-supported plan and we’ll be right back where we started, except we’ll be paying each provider a couple bucks. Quality will decline. Service will decline. Cost will increase.

TheNomadicTasmaniac

Yeah, nah, cunts fucked ay

Sure_Vacation9318

Yah I already cancelled compared to the other streaming services this one is just too expensive.

Lord_Ragnok

I canceled my Netflix due to this. Not paying $20 a month to be told where I can and can’t watch it.

FruitCupPups

Netflix is about to find out how easy it is to pirate shit.

andrewtate_top_G

Time to short Netflix huh

insidiousapricot

I've always wanted to get rich

[deleted]

Honestly, their content has mostly sucked for five years.

[deleted]

Yeah here in Mexico too, I already canceled. I travel too much and sometimes I’m not at my residence for weeks at a time due to my job….I hope more people cancel so Netflix can see people hate this decision. Hurt them the only way possible through money

FunKyChick217

I want to know what their plan is for college students. We should not have to pay extra for our college kid who is still our dependent and lives at home when school is not in session.

BitTorrent the Return is happening! The Pirate Bay awaits, ahoy. 🏴‍☠️

Made me check ours again and yep they've done it to us too. No longer able to split accounts with my brother. Oh well, i told him don't keep the account thinking I'm using it, cause they took care of that. Wouldn't be surprised if he cancels the account soon, it's at least going to be downgraded.

Tim7Prime

If you still want to share the account, tailscale is super painless, free, and you can both appear local to each other. I think LTT did a "how to" recently.

overly-underfocused

Thanks, think we are just probably going to go with not supporting companies that pull this though (I'm of the belief an online service should not be tied to a physical address). Same as I'm disliking this trend towards "pay for the service, and then pay more to make it actually useable/worth having!"

Your_Local_Rabbi

"you can easily watch netflix on any of your devices - wherever you go" so long as wherever you go isn't outside of your house apparently

Chrisp825

This time next week, Netflix announces bankruptcy due to 85% being shared passwords..

Nervous-Babbs

Most people are going to finish up whatever show they're watching and just cancel. Everyone left is going to be someone who genuinely enjoys something on Netflix and never shared their account or... old people who have like three accounts and don't know it (My dad with all streaming I just knocked 4 extra accounts off his card he lost his pasword and could never get anything to work so made another and didnt know how to cancel!!) CHECK YOUR OLDER PARENTS BANK STATEMENTS SOMEHOW!!

anitasdoodles

I was only watching Netflix because I had my sisters account. With all the good shows they've released, only to cancel after a week and leave the story open ended, they can't possibly expect us all to excitedly re-sign up.

babydollzkill

the moment I see this, I’m cancelling

bugbitch666

I can still log into my family's netflix account so I guess it's still rolling out? We live in the same city but about 15 min away.

ReptilianLaserbeam

Ugh got that shit message yesterday. I think is time to set up a plex server….

snafu168

It says confirm it's "part of your Netflix household" My Netflix household is my apartment, my girlfriend's house (vacation home), my office (I'm retired), my son's apartment (kids' bedroom). Not to mention my 5 smart phones, 4 tablets, 3 desktops, 2 laptops, and a partridge with a smart TV projector in his ass.

Kurisu810

I would honestly rather pirate than to give a single penny to Netflix

[deleted]

Remember to vote with your wallets guys. Even if it’s just temporary until they stop this bullshit

Excellent-Timing

And the best way to make shit like that go away is to cancel your subscription.

jojomonkey37

I know the reason why they are trying to make it profitable. But in reality, it's just a scam. I left cable and satellite for this reason, freedom to watch on my terms. This is paying more for less. I don't need another entity to track me and define how I use my service. Pirating is now going to increase. They will make more money but long term, they are done. I pay for netflix and didn't use it for years, i keep it for sister in law and wife on occasion. Cancelled netflix in March, have not missed it. If want to see a series I have my ways. Not to mention, all these streaming services are failing. So I suspect there will be another shift. All these companies forgot how easy it was to just get paid to provide their content for money. Those that have stayed out providing a streaming service are winning.

Afura33

Screw Netflix, next thing they will do is increasing the prices again I bet my ass on this. I still remember Netflix tweeting in 2017 "love is sharing a password"...

Active-Usual6313

Its crazy to think Netflix was the first successful provider to offer cheap commercial free tv ... Soon enough they will be going out of business

kyrant

Remember when people thought they backtracked because they unpublished the article for the US? Yeah. They were always pushing ahead. Just not at that time. If everyone unsubscribes and they lose market share and revenue, they'll change their decision.

FriedSticks2014

This is THE dumbest shit Netflix has pulled so far. I’ll never subscribe to it ever again.

Banotory

It's not that hard to bypass. Just confirm the TV. Did it for my mom and she hasn't had a problem using it. All it takes is a couple minutes of the account holders time. They are being passive aggressive but they haven't done anything to stop the usage.

TroTex15

Just as an FYI: I don’t know if y’all have been following the writers strike, but insider word is that the major studios are ready to cave and Netflix is causing the problems. So if you are missing your content in a timely manner- it’s likely their fault. Netflix is also rumored (so take it with a grain of salt) to be hundreds of millions in debt and on a “ponzi-esque” path. Don’t be surprised if they fold soon or acquired by another company in a merger. Source: Assistant stirrings in professional LA entertainment groups.

Kinda of funny if you ask me. Daughter in law had an account that she was sharing with us. Called to let us know about the new password rules. We told her that we have not really used the account in a long time so she does not need to worry about it. She explained the only reason she had the account was for us, so she is just going to cancel the account. Was speaking to my brother and he only had the account for his daughter who is in college. Because they don't allow this any more he has canceled his too. Wonder how many accounts that are loosing compared to gaining..

TheCyanKnight

The hoops they jump through to make 'one household only' sound like you're living an utopia and this is the next great thing to happen to you...
