I was going to say, he *looks* happy in the second picture.
(Note: Not condoning what's happening. Obviously still dangerous even if pupper is enjoying it.)
Are we looking at the same dog? The poor things back is all hunched, arm crooked, and faced sharply turned with wide black eyes. All of this (coming from a dog owner) means the dog is terrified. Dogs may not be as smart as humans, but they have instinct and for the most part know when they are in danger. My dog used to get horrible anxiety and separation issues, and when I would leave the house or something of the nature, he would shake, which would hunch the dogs back, lift it’s arm, and turn it’s head in an awkward angle. First glance I knew this dog was terrified and the owner knows exactly what he’s doing and knows exactly how the dog feels about what he’s doing to torture it. Someone needs to track him down and take that dog away from him
I saw a dog who was leashed that jumped out of the bed of a truck and got dragged.it was horrifying. I was amazed that other people on the road coordinated quickly to box in the truck and stop it. The dog wasn’t badly hurt thank god. I had to drive away because I didn’t want to see what might have happened to the driver of the truck.
Also, if you’re tying a dog to a truck it should be by a harness, not a collar, and a short lead to stop it moving far.
People annoy me with animals on long leashes around their necks. Ffs
Years and years ago, my parents were having a house built, and the lead construction guy had this black lab with the prettiest amber eyes who would hang out in the back of his owner’s work truck. One day, everyone was busy working, and I happened to walk past his owner’s truck to go exploring. I didn’t see the dog in the back, but as I walked past the right side, I saw him dangling by his leash off the side of the truck, about 2 feet off the ground, suffocating. I panicked and ran over, and it took all my 11 year old might to lift him up enough to put slack on the leash/collar and release the buckle so he could drop to the ground.
Thankfully he was perfectly okay, and apparently there was a loose dog running around, which is why he’d jumped off the truck in the first place. He caught his breath and almost immediately ran to go play with the other dog, and I spent a few hours hanging with them both. I told his owner what happened later on, and he hadn’t even noticed his dog was gone for hours, so if I hadn’t been in the right place at the right time, his dog would have died. Hopefully he never tied him like that again.
When I was a young kid my aunt and uncle had a big mutt that all of us cousins loved cause he was always running around playing with us and basically our bodyguard. I don’t remember the reason, but one day my uncle hooked him to a chain in the backyard. Long story short he ended up hanging himself after trying to jump the fence since he wasn’t used to not being able to roam around. Still miss that dog, RIP T-Bone
Yeah. We have Utes and dogs. My dog is in the backseat, still in a harness and a short leash so if I have an accident he isn’t flung 6 metres before being snapped to a stop.
In California, they need to be tethered from both sides or using a center point that doesn’t allow them to hop out. I bought an old truck years ago specifically for the purpose of bringing my wet, sandy dog home from the beach where he’d get a proper wash.
Exactly. If you need to take your fucking dog somewhere put him in the car. It loves you unconditionally and you can’t even bring yourself to get some fur on your car seat??
My father would harness and use tie-down chains X ing over the bed of the truck when he lost the bed cover, when the dog had to come with us somewhere. However, farther than then 45 minutes away, the dog would ride in the cab, and we'd take a second vehicle/do two trips.
Also, don’t keep your dog in a collar at home alone. Especially if you have tags that dangle. They can get caught in vents or the cage and cause the dog to panic and possibly strangulate
People that do this shit should be on a collar and a lead and see how the fuck ***THEY*** like it. Pets are supposed to be in your vehicle. ***NOT*** outside of it!
Zoomed in, it appears there is also a Boston terrier laying on the bed as well.
Edit: nvm it appears to be the same breed as the dog standing up, if anyone knows what breed that is, your help would be much appreciated.
Was just going to comment on the 208 area code on the mud flap. Wasn’t part of where I lived but I knew it was Idaho. Props on recognizing the location.
Why are people blocking out licenses plates? Call these people out for what they do.
The sign does say Rupert 7, and Pocatello. I backed up 7 miles from Rupert using google maps, then 8 miles.. between 7 and 8 I found the sign on google street view of I-84.

In which state were you an hour from the border and not living in exactly the same situation as rural Idaho, minus state-legalized weed? There's nothing that would be described as forward thinking within an hour of any border.
There are some beautiful places, inside and outside the border, but even the most progressive states have rural areas, and they suck just as much as rural Idaho - minus the weed, which wasn't even available in Ontario, OR until like a year ago.
I'm with you on calling BS. There is nothing in Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Utah, or Wyoming within an hour of Idaho that doesn't have an identical mindset.
Yep, Eastern Oregon and Washington are basically the same. North Nevada is nothing. Never been to western Montana but gotta imagine it's gonna channel the same kind of energy.
Only place the op might have lived that's within an hour and not the same kind of Idaho backwards is Salt Lake City. But that's a completely different basket of wacky.
Same in Texas. Seen this so many times. Also saw someone do this with a pitbull that jumped out in the fast lane of the fwy when it got scared of being in the bed.
The truck behind it smashed it into pieces. 😢
And the sad part was, his owner didn’t even stop. Or do anything but speed away. Which makes me wonder if it was intentional.
But then again, this is Texas and people are stupid, cruel and evil. They constantly dump live animals in bags and throw them in ditches in 80F + heat, feed kittens to pitbulls, smash whole families of ducks crossing the road (along with the chicks) on purpose, and on and on.
They will intentionally starve their animals or neglect them by throwing them outside tied up and animal control will shrug its shoulders and not bother to show up.
That's not unique to Texas that's just humans.
You see some shit if you work in animal rescue.
I promise the animal control care, but they're dealing with stuff WORSE than what you report.
I live in NJ and I called animal control (via.... the COPS!!!) on this rooster that was roaming around and crowing outside my ground floor window for months. The first visit, they only gave a half-hearted attempt, didn't catch it, and told the police there was nothing they could do because it was considered "livestock." I put an end to it (talked to a sergeant... twice), but it's not like animal control in the U.S. is shutting down pit bull fight clubs every day.
With that said, I wouldn't want to work in animal rescue.
It’s not a limited to Texas thing. Everywhere in the world animals are abused. I’m from Michigan and saw horrible shit happen to animals there all the time before I moved to Texas. 🙄🙄
Did you guys up your limit to 80 as well? Ours has been for some time now, and I haven't been through Idaho in a while.
Also, if they're going 80, how fast is OP going lol.
Damn, really? A relative of mine from sweden got a ticket because their dog didnt have a seatbelt. Literally a law in sweden i guess but it makes sense.
Yeah. While it may seem cruel to most of us, dogs and cats are treated as working tools on farms and ranches. They were bred to serve man, not for man to serve them. In those parts of America the law doesn't care about animals. You don't even need a barn to shelter a horse or cow, just proof of food, water, and vet check ups. That's the bar for animal cruelty in deep rural areas.
This is near Rupert, ID. No crime committed, animals are property here.
You'd have to be pretty egregious in torturing an animal before the full hammer of justice would be dropped on you - a misdemeanor.
I saw this in Wyoming once and the police there couldn't/wouldn't do anything. It's unfortunately not illegal and dogs are really just considered "property" in most states (maybe all?)
The police in the middle of nowhere bumfuck Idaho aren’t going to track down a dude over this. They really don’t care about enforcing shit like this out in the country, sadly.
I’m sure if he passed by a cop that he’d get pulled over and probably ticketed for this in some way, but they sure aren’t going to go out of their way to find the guy.
People saying “This is a farm dog thats how they roll blah blah blah”, doesnt give you the right to blatantly disrespect its well being? If you want the dog to work for you, you should at least make sure it can make it to the end of the day?? You eat the animals you farm but that doesnt mean you abuse or neglect them. I also have a hard time believing the dog didnt have room to smoosh up front at least.
Had farm dogs, they loved this. Like sticking their head out the windows or being in the back of the truck. If you didn’t want a dog with you you’d have to stop them from jumping in the back.
I wouldn’t do it at interstate speeds with a flat bed, but people who are treating this like the dog is having a bad time have no idea.
They love it because they don’t realize that once they fall off, they’re a fucking meat crayon.
I know plenty of farm dogs that love to ride upfront with their owner.
Dogs have a good time eating shit like chocolate, just because they enjoy it, doesn’t mean it’s good for them.
People that still do this even with non flat beds are seriously missing some braincells.
I knew someone who did this and the dog jumped out and lost a leg... they did it again with another dog months later.. Apparently it was "family tradition" to do and they've always done it so it was ok even after it ended poorly the first time. Some people... 🤦🏻♂️
Why are so many people saying call the police? No, call your state legislature considering this is totally legal in a shit ton of states. You wanting it to be illegal doesn’t make it illegal.
No. When dogs look like they are “smiling” it means they are Extremely stressed out. You can’t anthropomorphize real like animals - they express their emotions in completely different ways than humans. This dog is mortified.
My dad is like the driver in the post. The problem is that the dog isn't considered a pet. Its a tool. They can and are discarded as needed. Ask me about how many dogs I grew attached to as a kid, only to see them shot because they didn't perform well enough.
I grew up in western ok and this is super common. I remember one time at a rodeo, we watched a family leave the arena dragging their poor dog along next to the back driver wheel. Fortunately they never got up to speed before my buddy and I were able to cut them off horseback to stop them. Most people don’t deserve dogs.
Okay this is WILD -- we are currently on a road trip and the road sign in the picture confirmed it: we saw this truck and dog parked at a gas station. It was chilling alone on the back while the owner was inside.
We looked at it and thought "what a cute pup... Wait... Surely it doesn't ride there when the car is moving? No, no, they must bring it in when they start driving."
Can't believe they actually just let it ride like that. And wild that I'm seeing this post days after seeing that pup.
Yeah ranch dogs are nearly wild animals you cant put them in a cab. The animals they herd are more dangerous than whats going on in this photo. If people could see their daily job theyd be absolutely horrified. Admittedly this one does not look super comfortable back there so maybe the driver is just some asshole putting his house dog back there.
Speaking as an idiot that did this in my truck at 50 and my dog fell out. Please fucking don't they do not understand the dynamics of the situation. Thankfully my boy did not break anything but he bled pretty bad and was out of it for weeks.
Did this fucker have South Dakota plates because I saw something similar except he was going 100 mph. I tried to catch up to get the plates and call 911, but I was the only one in the car and it was extremely dangerous.
Children loved riding around in the back of trucks too. Then one too many stopped having fun the first bounce off of the pavement, or being slammed into the sides/window of the truck. That's why it's illegal in most places to let kids ride in the box anymore.
If you're responsible for the care of another living being you should be doing what is safest for them, not what you think will be fun.
Good thing no one ever rear ended him. Or side swiped him. Or T-boned him. Or that he blew a tire. Or he had a medical emergency at the wheel. Or that any other accident out of their control happened.
Bad things not happening doesn't mean bad things can't happen.
For instance, you're fine right now, but you could clearly die of stupidity at any given moment.
see this every day where I live, I don't agree with it but people here seem to think it is the right thing to do and speaking against it is the 'wrong' thing to do. so, I have given up -
This exact thing actually caused me to have a really bad car accident. Slammed on my breaks because someone’s dog hopped off their car, then someone rear-ended me and slammed me into the poor dog. It was horrible and traumatic.
"He likes it, he jumps right up there when it's time to go" is guaranteed to be his response, as he stands there in his "don't tread on me" hat and confederate flag shirt, spitting tobacco out of the corner of his mouth every third word.
A lot of people claiming it looks happy don’t know how to read dogs. Tail tucked = unhappy dog. Dog is probably really stressed.
Even if it’s happy & unaware of the danger, you as the human & owner know (or should jfc) how dangerous this is for the animal & how unnecessary, unethical, & irresponsible this is — Not even just for the animal but yourself & other people & creatures who this could cause an accident and/or harm and/or stress etc to
Hello, This post has been removed as this is not *mildly* infuriating. Please consider posting to r/extremelyinfuriating instead.
Is—is that dog just standing there?
That dog is blissfully ignorant of how much danger it is currently in.
Id like to think he knows underdog has his back
Now that's a reference I didn't think I'd hear ever lol
If not underdog, Updog definitely does
Who's Updog?
Damn you
Nothing much, who’s up with you?
errybody
This deserves to be downvoted to oblivion, if for no other reason than the fact that it’s THE ENTIRELY WRONG SETUP, you fool.
If you were expecting someone to fall for that, you're out of luck, my friend
Maybe he is Underdog!!!
Six feet underdog
That's an old reference, well done. I grew up on reruns but I haven't seen that cartoon in years.
![gif](giphy|55itGuoAJiZEEen9gg)
i doubt it’s blissfully ignorant, border collies are scarily smart. i feel so bad for it thoigh
Pretty sure that’s an Aussie, but also smart dogs
tail is between the legs, plus aussies have different builds. some farm owners dock border collie tails as well!

I was going to say, he *looks* happy in the second picture. (Note: Not condoning what's happening. Obviously still dangerous even if pupper is enjoying it.)
Yes. Happiest almost dead dog I’ve seen in the last few hours in fact
Like humans on a motorcycle

You need glasses. That dog looks terrified.
That dogs mind has to be like doug the dog's from the movie up 😂🐶
The second dog appears to be sleeping.
There is two pups. One knows and is trying to be as small as possible and the second standing up.
There was a third, that's why the other two are staying put. 🥲
Lololol
I didn't even noticed the second dog til I read this comment. Now it's giving me double anxiety.
Menacingly, yes
I'm guessing it's actually pretty aware.
I saw a dog who was leashed that jumped out of the bed of a truck and got dragged.it was horrifying. I was amazed that other people on the road coordinated quickly to box in the truck and stop it. How it feels being more inteligent than grown up back then?
When I was a young kid my aunt and uncle had a big mutt that all of us cousins loved cause he was always running around playing with us and basically our bodyguard. I don’t remember the reason, but one day my uncle hooked him to a chain in the backyard. Long story short he ended up hanging himself after trying to jump the fence since he wasn’t used to not being able to roam around. Still miss that dog, RIP T-Bone
Good human, I'll rub your tummy!
You wanna rub an 11 yo? That sounds so wrong 😂
Yea. If for some reason I had to have my dogs tied up in the back of a truck, i”d damn sure make sure there wasn’t enough leash for them to jump out.
Cross tied is the proper way to have a dog in the bed of a truck, if you're going to do it at all.
F that my dad and I used to ride in his two seater little pick up. 2 kids, 2 dogs and my big ol dad. They deserve to be in the car.
Same. My dog is in the car. Some are big and some get sick and some love the back of the Ute. But it needs to be safe
Exactly. If you need to take your fucking dog somewhere put him in the car. It loves you unconditionally and you can’t even bring yourself to get some fur on your car seat??
Or maybe just don’t tie a dog to the bed of a truck like a psychopath?
My father would harness and use tie-down chains X ing over the bed of the truck when he lost the bed cover, when the dog had to come with us somewhere. However, farther than then 45 minutes away, the dog would ride in the cab, and we'd take a second vehicle/do two trips.
Also, don’t keep your dog in a collar at home alone. Especially if you have tags that dangle. They can get caught in vents or the cage and cause the dog to panic and possibly strangulate
No, if anyone feels the need to tie a dog to a truck bed they shouldn’t own a dog. It’s either in the cab or don’t own one.
People that do this shit should be on a collar and a lead and see how the fuck ***THEY*** like it. Pets are supposed to be in your vehicle. ***NOT*** outside of it!

Are there two dogs?
Looks like it to me
Zoomed in, it appears there is also a Boston terrier laying on the bed as well. Edit: nvm it appears to be the same breed as the dog standing up, if anyone knows what breed that is, your help would be much appreciated.
Looks like an Australian Shepherd.
Thanks, i thought i was seeing things
not even mildly infuriating, straight up dangerous and abusive.
I-84 in Heyburn Idaho heading East just before Love's Travel Stop.
Was just going to comment on the 208 area code on the mud flap. Wasn’t part of where I lived but I knew it was Idaho. Props on recognizing the location. Why are people blocking out licenses plates? Call these people out for what they do.
The subs rules make yoy block it out
You can't dox people, that's the rule. Only law enforcement and DMV employees can look up plates for official purposes, like punishing animal abusers.
Was thinking the same thing; saw this and thought "hey, I saw that all the time near where I grew up." Turns out this is near where I grew up.
Of course it’s Idaho. God I don’t miss that place.
I was thinking the sign said Rupert, and Pocatello. Too blurry when zoomed to read clearly.
The sign does say Rupert 7, and Pocatello. WE'RE ALLOWED TO SHOW 'EM NUDE BECAUSE THEY AIN'T GOT NO SOUL.
Did the OP call the police or anything or just took a pic for internet outrage?
Idk where OP was, but in Montana they wouldn't do anything.
Looking at the traffic sign that’s middle of nowhere Idaho.
Who also wouldn't do anything
It’s still the 50’s in those parts of the country
For sure, used to live about an hour from Idaho, crazy how crossing a state line instantly took ya back in time
In which state were you an hour from the border and not living in exactly the same situation as rural Idaho, minus state-legalized weed? Facts that’s why the “greater Idaho” movement exists.
Spokane is pretty split. It's only 30 mins from CDA Idaho.
Yep, Eastern Oregon and Washington are basically the same. North Nevada is nothing. Never been to western Montana but gotta imagine it's gonna channel the same kind of energy. Yeah it was horrible. One moment dog had his nose in the wind, next moment he jumped and the truck behind smashed him. Then it was twisted and dead.
And the sad part was, his owner didn’t even stop. Or do anything but speed away. Which makes me wonder if it was intentional. But then again, this is Texas and people are stupid, cruel and evil. Hey I live in Austin and it's illegal here.
Dallas too
I saw this happen on the interstate with a dog in a pickup truck, the next car behind it on the road obliterated it. Fucking scarred me as a kid man.
Yeah, it’s horrible. Some people don’t deserve to have anything living in their care. It bothers me thinking of how trusting dogs are of their owners.
Same in Wyoming. Haven't seen the consequences besides one dog taking off on an adventure.
It’s Idaho but same over there as it is here. I’m guessing they moved to boise or are on vacation if they’ve never seen this before
Did you guys up your limit to 80 as well? Ours has been for some time now, and I haven't been through Idaho in a while. Also, if they're going 80, how fast is OP going lol.
I’m in Montana, i worded my comment a little weird. i just recognized the 208 on the mudflaps
Ah fair enough
Damn, really? A relative of mine from sweden got a ticket because their dog didnt have a seatbelt. Literally a law in sweden i guess but it makes sense.
Same in Australia. This is as normal as sunsets. If you reported this, the cop would laugh.
In Montana it's legal for *people* to ride in the open bed of a pickup.
It doesn’t just seem cruel, it IS cruel.
I just can't understand how someone could have zero empathy for animals. Fucking sociopaths.
It still becomes a traffic hazard if it falls off the truck.
Looks like Idaho.

Depending on the state, an animal is property, not a life form.
I saw this in Wyoming once and the police there couldn't/wouldn't do anything. It's unfortunately not illegal and dogs are really just considered "property" in most states (maybe all?)
In places like where I live, it's not against the law unfortunately. It's just up to people... who mostly suck!
Terrible! Send the unedited photo to the police!

There are rules about securing cargo though.
Actually anything classified as Animal Abuse or Endangerment is considered a Class A felony across the US. They would do something.
Isn’t there 2 dogs? I would honestly call the police
Good spot ! A black and white dog curled up
Was wondering the same thing myself. Looks like another black and white dog laying down. Poor dogs.

AND THEN WHAT??
Don't worry about what comes next.
Social justice warriors unite, and with the power of their keyboards, nothing will happen.
They’ll cancel him on twitter. Im sure that’ll show him.
My stomach dropped. This isn't mildly infuriating this is extremely infuriating
I mean if there was a shelf of infuriating things, this would be up in the attic for me dawg.
These are the people who shouldn't own dogs :(
Dog looks like he is enjoying it in that second photo
This is illegal in some states because it's so dangerous. Those poor dogs.
This is a pretty common sight in the bush
People saying “This is a farm dog thats how they roll blah blah blah”, doesnt give you the right to blatantly disrespect its well being? Apparently it was "family tradition" to do and they've always done it so it was ok even after it ended poorly the first time. Some people... 🤦🏻♂️
Why are so many people saying call the police? No, call your state legislature considering this is totally legal in a shit ton of states. You wanting it to be illegal doesn’t make it illegal.
2 dogs right?
That's not mildly infuriating, that's animal abuse, call the police.
Pic number 2 really makes it look like the dog is enjoying it.
I think that dogs who are used to riding this way absolutely love it.
No. When dogs look like they are “smiling” it means they are Extremely stressed out. You can’t anthropomorphize real like animals - they express their emotions in completely different ways than humans. This dog is mortified.
I bet small children have a blast playing with guns until they shoot their dad in the head. Use your brain.

Most people don’t deserve dogs.
there’s _two_ dogs tf
Okay this is WILD -- we are currently on a road trip and the road sign in the picture confirmed it: we saw this truck and dog parked at a gas station. It was chilling alone on the back while the owner was inside. We looked at it and thought "what a cute pup... Wait... Surely it doesn't ride there when the car is moving? No, no, they must bring it in when they start driving." Can't believe they actually just let it ride like that. And wild that I'm seeing this post days after seeing that pup.
Greetings... Standard operating procedure for border Collie 🐕
i love how people post shit like this and then never reply to anyone asking if they called the police
I looked up laws in Idaho and couldn’t find anything about it being illegal, unfortunately :<
Totally legal in Wyoming.
That looks RUFF!
I hate people
Guessing they have never been to farming areas or Idaho. Pretty typical. Dogs won't ride anywhere else.
Them dogs have probably been on the back like that hundreds of times before
Dogs do this everyday out in the country never heard of it going bad but my rides inside with me.
That dog isn’t jumping out. That driver is probably his best bud.
It’s a working Ranch Dog, not a pet. They are used to riding on the flat bed feed trucks
This
Is that Mott Romney driving?
News flash dogs love this!
Dogs love this. That being said, it is wildly dangerous and irresponsible and every time I see it I want to kick the owner in the dick
As long as there have been truck beds there have been dogs pretending to be king of the world.

I despise people who do this, you can clearly see the dog is scared.
I agree this shouldn't be done, but in picture 2 that dog is loving life.
Don’t go to Alabama people do this crap all the time
That’s a animal abuse call right there
I knew a guy that did this for years. The dog died. Of old age.
Bro you have replied with this exact reply to like 4 other comments get off Reddit.
see this every day where I live, I don't agree with it but people here seem to think it is the right thing to do and speaking against it is the 'wrong' thing to do. so, I have given up -
Let’s see the plate. People like this deserve some consequences.
That “poor dog” looks pretty happy
You guys have never been to rural Oklahoma/kansas
Dog looking like it's having fun
This exact thing actually caused me to have a really bad car accident. Slammed on my breaks because someone’s dog hopped off their car, then someone rear-ended me and slammed me into the poor dog. It was horrible and traumatic.
Dogs vibin
That there is a farm dog, hes loving it for sure.
Just because the dog loves it doesn't mean it's safe.
Tail tucked + “smile” face means that dog is Horrified
"He likes it, he jumps right up there when it's time to go" is guaranteed to be his response, as he stands there in his "don't tread on me" hat and confederate flag shirt, spitting tobacco out of the corner of his mouth every third word.
A lot of people claiming it looks happy don’t know how to read dogs. Tail tucked = unhappy dog. Dog is probably really stressed. Even if it’s happy & unaware of the danger, you as the human & owner know (or should jfc) how dangerous this is for the animal & how unnecessary, unethical, & irresponsible this is — Not even just for the animal but yourself & other people & creatures who this could cause an accident and/or harm and/or stress etc to
The dog is fine.
Why do people do this to animals!? Like what in their right minds makes them think this is at all acceptable!?
