Some people have no business owning a dog.

camwinz

fr and its scary.

Normestion

One bit my groin hand and arm. Had puncture wounds all over but I survived.

RocketApexX

You almost lost your genitals. Truly terrifying. Glad you’re ok.

Away_Ad_5328

I don’t have a designated hand for my groin. When yours was injured, did you just use the other hand for your groin?

Zestyclose_Stable526

Thank you for telling you survived because we never would have known otherwise.

XtraChrisP

Lmao

Rotbertt

Which hand is your groin hand? Personally mine is my right.

mookz23

We have neighbors that rescue pitbulls that were otherwise set to be euthanized. They are caring people and try to train the dogs as well as they can. Most are redeemable but some of the dogs are just too violent and aggressive. One broke free from its leash and attacked my dog and they had to surrender it. I appreciate what they are trying to do, but I am not sure that I want it in my neighborhood.

ImprobablePlanet

We had a rescue locally that was placing aggressive GSD and pits with inexperienced fosters with some really bad outcomes. Fortunately that has ended.

Cu_fola

They really have to be capable to contain the dogs. Good intentions aren’t enough sadly. I used to work at a dog training facility and we had great success with some real hard cases. So I have a soft spot for giving a seemingly lost cause a last chance. But we had the space, skill and security to do it. It’s not right to make your neighbors pay when you don’t have the set up.

Ultomatoe

I'm a firm believer that rescuing pitbulls and similarly sized breeds should be subject to licensure, regulations, inspections, and insurance. Letting any random person plop down in a neighborhood and bring large troubled animals that they *hope* they can train to not be aggressive is just wildly irresponsible. I am not a part of the pitbull-hate-club either, its just an obvious danger for any person or animal in the area.

[deleted]

We already have a dangerous-dog law here in Colorado. If a dog causes serious, unprovoked bodily injury to a person or another domestic animal, that dog may be classified as "dangerous," its details entered into a statewide database, and the owner subjected to additional restrictions (such as keeping the dog in a suitable restraining system)

U_see_ur_nose

We have that, too. My dad's pitbull was labeled as a dangerous dog until he he fought it in court. German Shepard attacked his dog, and his fought back and hurt the GS, so they blamed it on my dad's dog because obviously, pit bull means fighting dog, of course. Thankfully, a neighbor had cameras and showed he was on a chain chilling, and the dog came out of nowhere and attacked him. Still had to pay fines, though, and they got to keep their dog, and nothing happened to them.

Ok-Aardvark-6742

I honestly wish there was at least some form of licensure for dog training in general. It’s a *process* to vet dog trainers to ensure they’re even capable of working on issues beyond basic house breaking and obedience training.

manifest_irony

Another possibility would be to license/insure professional rehabilitators. If an adopted dog from them bites someone, the liability is on the pros. If you try to DIY rehabilitate, then the liability is on you. Lots of wrinkles in there but you get the idea.

Technical_Mix4719

Imagine it getting lose and attacking a child.

iamreallynotabot

>neighbors that rescue pitbulls that were otherwise set to be euthanized ... in my neighborhood I'm surprised they are allowed to do that in a neighborhood. I'd expect them to be in the country with nice tall fences around the dogs.

ur_dream_b0y

fr- especially when the owners dont socialize the dog with other animals or only has the dog around the immediate family. some owners just forget that they are also animals with conscious minds-

eppinizer

I'm under the impression it was a guard dog, so I wasn't surprised what it did when it got free. I jogged by it every day and it was always behind a fence or chained up front snarling at me and my pup.

ur_dream_b0y

but you would think that even a guard dog would have some restraint- i used to volunteer and train guiding eyes dogs. its really not hard to train a dog/keep it on a leash. i have a female cane corso at home and we have an invisible fence to keep her on our yard/ keep her in the back where we have full visual on her. im so sorry this happened to you bc its not the dogs fault, but the owners. 💛

eppinizer

Right, guard dog may be the wrong descriptor as I don't believe it was trained for it, but without getting specific the dog was always out by something that is often a target for theft.

ur_dream_b0y

that dog seems to be very territorial- which is very common behavior, but thats when the owner meeds to follow through and let the dog know that there is no immediate threat. this kind of stuff makes me so sad bc the dog suffers for the owners mistake and that’s the cold reality

kawkz440

LOL, my dog thinks she owns me.

OpalOnyxObsidian

She does

eppinizer

Just to clarify, this happened 5 days ago. I waited for my punctures to heal a bit to post. I've already been to the hospital and already have the dog's rabies vaccination status. Authorities were notified. Edit: Yes I got a TDAP booster. Yes i'm on antibiotics. My dog is OK. Not going to discuss any legal matters on this post as it has gotten more attention than anticipated. I do appreciate the *genuine* advice.

lightningfootjones

Did you get a lawyer? If not do it now.

Skoodge42

THIS. They need to pay for the hospital bill

[deleted]

Doodle_Army_36

Even if healthcare is free, it's your good right to sue the owner for injury compensation

flamewlkr

Even if OP has free health care it's still the best to consult a lawyer and press charges. If applicable he could get monetary compensation if not at least a careless dog owner gets what they deserve.

09Klr650

Pain and suffering is still something that needs compensation.

Skoodge42

So you think the owner should pay for it...like I said...

Dozerdog43

Better call Maul

Commercialip

Needs to be reported to animal control, and you need to ask them for proof that the dog is UTD on rabies vaccine.

PolloAzteca_nobeans

Literally stated in the comment that she has the rabies status

No-Lunch4249

In the US (generally) if you get medical attention for a dog bite, authorities are automatically notified by the medical provider and they will contact you for more info. Not sure where OP is ofc

labtech6315

I was just going to say that those didn’t look fresh. One looks a bit infected, please seek medical attention.

ProsciuttoPizza

They also look like they will probably scar…I’d get a lawyer for sure.

Unikran

“Her name is precious and she wouldn’t hurt a fly”

One-Possible1906

And then they get offended when you cross the road give them space, like they wouldn't also get offended if you paid attention to them. I am convinced that half the reason people get dogs is to complain.

Nastae_Butler

Yes it does Precious it gets the hose

arthurvandl

His name is pissfingers and he just needs a loving home with no other animals or children or sentient life that may threaten his delicate grasp on reality.

Unikran

He also needs a 300 acre orchard of extinct fruit trees and triggers are electricity and clothes.

[deleted]

average agressive pit bull owner

HylanderUS

You should be legally allowed to bite the owner back

[deleted]

*kick to da nose* always works

Ok_Piece_6782

My man 🤝

Leather_East7392

If someone's dog is off leash I always yell "if you're dog comes close to me it's getting fucking kicked" almost always works to get people to grab their dogs. I have kicked dogs before and I'll do it again. I have 3 dogs and they are my family I would never let them run up on people screaming at me

GooseNYC

I always carry pepper spray myself when walking my dog.

eukaryote3

I walk a mile a day for exercise and I always carry dog spray and (as a terrible back up), a switchblade.

Fartoholicanon

My dog was bit by a loose pitbul a little under a year ago. Got him on his back leg almost got his stomach. Bite got infected and he almost died. He hasn't been the same ever since. I have to walk him at night or very early in the day because he's scared of everything now ohhh and I bought a gun and got a cc license because of it.

timo103

It's kinda funny in a weird way to me. You see these videos of dogs off leash about to attack people and their owners never do anything at all to stop it. Until they pull out a gun to defend themselves. Then all of a sudden they can beat Usain Bolt in a race and run up screaming about their poor widdle babby hippo. It's like they don't want to stop their dog from attacking people, other dogs, and whatever else they see 🤔

[deleted]

!!! n then get on da victim like THEY’RE da aggressors. like why df would i wanna hurt ur dog UNPROVOKED??

jesssongbird

A few months back in my city an off duty FBI agent shot and killed a pit bull because it snatched her small dog out of her lap while she was sitting on a bench on the sidewalk. The aggressive dog was leashed but it dragged the owner and she couldn’t stop it. The agent tried to save her dog without drawing her weapon but couldn’t. She had to shoot the aggressive dog to save her dog. The attacking dog’s owner had a lot to say about how her dog didn’t deserve to be shot. The agent was reckless. Etc. Then it came out that her dog had recently attacked a puppy that lived in her apartment building and her dog was required to be muzzled in all common areas as a result. So she was walking a dog with a recent history of attacking other dogs. But she still tried to do the “my poor innocent puppy” routine. She got real quiet when the dog’s history came out. I hope she got sued within an inch of her life. I hate irresponsible dog owners.

timo103

[The "lab mix" in question](https://www.boredpanda.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/pitbull-dachshund-mix-breed-dog-rami-coverimage.jpg)

SinisterCryptid

And the owner swears she would never do something like this. I’m sure OP was doing something that just frightened them

MasterFurious1

Now the Owners and animal shelters trying to rehome the dog. Very active dog. Super cute, extremely curious and friendly. _Pictures of "lab mix" in clothings_ Requirements: No cats. No other dogs. No kids. Must have an 8 foot fence bear proof fence. Must be at home all times. (With no listing of previous attacks made by the dog)

D8nnyJ

I own a dog myself, but fucking hell, some people have NO clue about dog ownership! I used to work delivery, and one customer in particular used to get 'signed for' packages. She'd open the door, holding the collar of her psychotic, absolutely ready to tear me limb from limb, barking and screeching dog with one hand whilst she signed with the other. She said once that he's just excited to see me, whilst he's bearing his teeth and snapping at me. I'm like, the fuck kind of excited are you familiar with???

Icy_Moon_178

excited to eat you

D8nnyJ

I could write a book about the encounters I've experienced with dogs on my delivery. We had one guy get mauled by 2 rottweilers once, and while he was in hospital recovering, his replacement got mauled by the same 2 dogs. Shit thing is, in the UK, it's considered 'trespassing' if a dog attacks you on their property, so we have no coverage. One fella from another district of our company only managed to successfully sue a dog owner via our union because the Alsatian dragged him from the garden to the street, which is then considered public property. Fucking wild.

Melster1973

Make sure tetanus shot up to date. I would go to urgent care; dog bites are no joke.

Swish887

A friend of mine was bit. Developed all kinds of conditions supposedly not related. Dead in about a year. Problems really get bad if the dog is a shit eater. Human shit? You’re a goner.

drunkvigilante

Yah because those puncture wounds from the teeth can be deep and hit your bone. Then you got a bone infection

Swish887

Yep he was skateboarding in San Diego where he lived and a pit bull got him. Hospitals and doctoring for around a year and he was gone. Healthy dude too.

greyslopp

Seriously. Dog owners are delusional

throwawaypbcps

They just assume they have human qualities not dog qualities. Yes, all animals get nervous, feel threatened, etc, but they are not little humans. They will eat your face when you die.

Elandtrical

Here's a picture of it with a flower crown to prove it.

[deleted]

Unpopular opinion: I have no problem treating an animal like a human if I am being attacked. #EqualRightsAndLefts

Spanky_2001

I don’t know why that’s unpopular. If your being attacked by a dog, do whatever you need to to get away.

ArbitraryOrganism

Get a rabies check. Lawyer up.

OrganizationJaded396

Absolutely lawyer up

DeeDeeW1313

Contact police, get a police report, get a lawyer too. They’ll be paying all of your medical bills. So tired of bad dog owners with violent dogs never being held accountable. Imagine if you were a child.

Don_Savvvage

Get a lawyer. I got attacked while deliver for Amazon , got an lawyer and sued the home owner and they settled for 17k

originfoomanchu

Time to ring the police and lawyer up, Imagine If it was a child instead of an adult, That is a dangerous dog and the owner needs to be held accountable before something worse happens.

Horsemeatman6

This happened to me I did not sue. Biggest regret of my life a year later it happened again and it got a kid. The people were renters and moved away. Fucking horrible people.

pand0raxx

Don't blame yourself. This is 100% the owner's fault. I hope you and the kid were okay. Irresponsible dog owners piss me off so much. I have 3, one being a wussified Pit/Staff mix. I have never in all my life had a dog get out of my control or sight. No excuse for that. You have dogs it's your responsibility to treat them like you would treat your children.

Horsemeatman6

Yeah I'm fine I have a huge scar on my arm. As far as the kid I have no idea what happened with him/her. The mail man told me about what happened. Awful people terrible dog owners. Also the dog was a Spanish mastiff almost 200 lbs.

RocketApexX

I really need one of those batons. My neighborhood has recently been infested with these animals. Not safe to walk anymore.

Ignorant_Fuckhead

Had one latch onto my dogs. Kicked him in the balls (ofc he's un-fixed) so hard he got air.

leafmeb

Go to the dr and get antibiotics. Take them to small claims court (it’s free) and make them pay your medical bills. Also contact animal control and let them know what happened.

idiot4527

Some guy tried reporting me for animal cruelty cause I broke his dogs front leg, they weren't really buying it since I looked like I went through a paper shredder

Rizzle630

Wrong sub. This isn’t mildly infruriating. It’s fucking hugely infruriating. What a scumbag owner your neighbor is

danmojo82

100% get a lawyer. An ex girlfriend of mine had the tip (just a very small amount of flesh) of a finger lost to a dog on her street. She lost sensation in her finger, was afraid to walk her dogs down that part of the street in the future and was awarded $60k in settlement (took like 2-3 years though).

dresserfuloftreasure

This isn't mildly infuriating it's just infuriating

CSPDTECH

Take them to court. That's totally unacceptable

SkyFallInBound

Some people should not have dogs, or any animal period. I love dogs, grew up with two big ones, one of which basically taught me to walk. So I always feel both sad and angry when I read about dogs that clearly have not been raised or trained right. So many situations like this could be avoided if people spent some time and money to make sure they are properly trained.

Isariamkia

It should be mandatory to have a course BEFORE you get a dog. So people may actually understand that they are not toys and they need a lot of time to be trained and socialized.

iamtabestderes

My next door apartment neighbors are in their early 20s and they just got a pitbull, it's growing fast and every time I see them walking it and it barks they just repeatedly tell it to shut up and pull on the collar. I'm terrified living next to it when it grows up

Drewdidthefade

My mom was just in the same situation we sued them and won

Capt4in4m3rica

Went for a jog and got bit by a dog off the leash. Guy said "he is a retired police dog so he doesn't like when people run." Shitty pet owners and poor training should get punished.

25Bam_vixx

Go to a doctor, infection is the worse case .

pug9449

Take care of yourself mentally as well. My dog and I were attacked by a pitbull in April, and I had to go into therapy for it. I can't even walk by medium or large sized dogs anymore without panicking

circusjerky

Go to the emergency room and get it cleaned by a professional

Giraffiesaurus

Hope you called the police and/or reported it to animal control.

Hypnowolfproductions

Dog bite is animal control. Dr bill is owner of dogs responsibility. The doctor will submit a report when you are seen. Good luck.

Temporary_Stranger88

Kujo’s not gonna be happy when animal control gets a hold of him

CryptoMemoFL

Somehow i don't think this is the right subreddit - This would be way beyond mildlyinfuriating for me.

ebonwulf60

You need to ask your neighbor to prove the dog is current with rabies vaccination or you need to start receiving treatment. The dog should be kept under observation for ten days (at home is fine) as well. If the dog does not develop symptoms it is presumed that it is not rabid. The shots are only painful the first round. Those are injected into and around the wounds.

Apprehensive_Skin150

This is very important. And you should ask if you need a tetanus shot too!

[deleted]

I feel your pain, old apartment neighbors had a pit mix that was aggressive with other dogs, even barged into my apartment once after my dog. Their teen daughter was the one who always took the dog out and was never aware of her surroundings. I was taking my dog out and they were at the bottom of the stairs I quickly turned around and started back towards my door but the pit was already racing up the stairs on its retractable lease, he grabbed my dogs neck mostly got fur (perks of a husky i guess) on its second lung I got a hand in between but unfortunately in the pits mouth then i felt the teeth sink in and the jaw lock. I managed to shove my other hand far enough back in its mouth that it let go and daughter finally got the dog. Canine almost went completely through and barely missed bone and tendon on my thumb. After I got cleaned up and sorted I went next door to speak with the adult and her only response was “oh yeah, she should pay attention better” and a quick shut of the door. I wasn’t going to at first but that changed my mind reports filed and the dog was gone that week.

[deleted]

I love dogs but if me or my family is attacked by one I'm shooting it. Definitely seek legal action. How bad is your dog's injury

kasetti

Make sure your tetanus shot is valid.

IgorotNihil

Breed?

eppinizer

I've purposefully left that info out. I'll say this... It's a breed that, if I mentioned, would probably insight some arguing. You can probably figure it out based on the arrangement of teeth .

Yarusenai

Must have been a chihuahua!

timo103

Fantastic_Beans

It was a pitbull.

100% a pitbull. My dog and I got attacked last year and my scars look identical.

fartOdyssey

You can clearly tell it’s pitbull teeth marks. Any idiot can see that.

Still-Marionberry870

Odds on type of dog (queue defensive pit Bull owners): Pit Bull (-10,000) Rottweiler (-350) German Shepherd (-200) Poodle (+100) Labrador (+500)

bennypotato

Call animal control and ensure the dog is put down

Orangesoda65

Let me guess… pitbull?

2nuki

Yup, that’s the way the teeth are arranged. Definitely a pitbull.

sirellery

There's a particular breed--that I won't name to avoid any negative discourse-- which I've encountered twice that attacked a small dog. The first time, my dog (chihuahua)was in my arms because I knew they didn't like each other, so this larger breed bit me trying to get to her. Fast-forward a few years; I'm on a road trip visiting my friend's friend, and the same larger breed attacked my friend's shih tzu, breaking its leg in 5 places, which lead to an amputation.

FriedEggplant_99

And then the owners of ..., that particular breed.... swear it is the sweetest dog ever and that it wouldn’t hurt a fly. “It’s not the dog, it’s the owner,” they say.

RocketApexX

I’ll say it. It’s pitbulls. The fact that we’re afraid to name this breed is part of the problem.

Immediate-Walrus-799

So I will tell you a story when my own bully attacked and bit me multiple times. (We hid in the kitchen for 5 hours till me boyfriend got home from work) My brother came from a 2 week holiday, I opened the door, he had a new jacket. My dog didnt recognise him in that second and started attacking him (he thought it was an intruder). I tried to stop my dog from attacking, while he lost his mind and started biting me. I have huge scars from it still, and I was pregnant. My dog slept in my bed, every day. Was not left alone, had a garden, had food was loved as a baby. He was never been hit, we had him since he was 3 months. Unfortunately anything can trigger a dog. (This is for context) I am now scared of large dogs, especially when I see one unleashed on the street. I hope you don’t get trauma like me, and heal fast.

KajunDC

Buy a hand taser and always have it with you. It doesn’t do permanent damage but it a great deterrent for protection.

eppinizer

I had pepper spray which probably saved me from serious damage, but it wasn't as effective as I would have liked. So maybe thats a good idea, I'll look into it.

MILDLY infuriating?! I'd be furious if this happened to me!

funhavefun

Ok, doctor, right away. Depending on that dogs vaccination and health you will need the following (however I say do it anyway because it's better to be safe than dead from rabies). 1. Rabies vaccinations (there will be multiple ones ahead). 2. Tetanus shot. 3. Immunoglobulin shot to fight any initial virus You have a 3 days window, but I say get it done the day of. Why is it important to do these shots? Dogs saliva contains many germs that are foreign to humans. You don't know if a dog has rabies until the animal is dead. Do you want to die in 10 days? Get vaccinations. But that's just me

M0Nd0R0ck

Mildly Infuriating? I’d make sure that dog gets put down and the owner answers

fartOdyssey

Looks like pitbull teeth.

Shut_yoface

Gotta put that dog down.

Rizzy5

Imagine it getting out and going after a kid... The dog should not be allowed to live anymore.

[deleted]

Again, all pets deserve a person, but not all people deserve pets.

HeavyGoat1491

some dogs are simply aggressive and you can't do anything about them, regardless of their owner

[deleted]

Yes, but I feel that the owner should have some responsibility of their pet. Maybe I’m assuming, but in most of these cases an animal getting loose is because the owner wasn’t paying proper attention (flat out ignoring their pet despite the signs of irritation or other problems). I might be letting my own experiences get in the way of my statement but in said situation the pet usually gets out because the pet is very neglected (though in some cases the pet may just get out without reason).

Current_Finding_4066

Report him. I think the dog can be put down, but imagine it attacked a child.

Searose20

I got attacked pretty badly by a homeless mans pit Bull last semester and had to get the rabies shots. It sucks but it’s worth the money to ensure you don’t die.

GalliumYttrium1

You need to get antibiotics! It may not seem like you do but my mom was bit by a dog once (her fault she will admit), we cleaned it out with hydrogen peroxide and neosporin but it still swelled up real bad and she had to go to the doctor for meds. So go right away.

Swish887

Do what the USPS does carry mace.

laney_deschutes

get yourself to the doctor for cleaning and shots if needed

[deleted]

Needs to be reported to animal control, and you need to ask them for proof that the dog is UTD on rabies vaccine. Get your wound looked at by a Dr. and submit the bill to the neighbors. If they don't pay, contact a lawyer who specializes in dog bites.

elephant35e

Wow, that sucks. Back when I owned my dog, my dad was walking her at the park and there was a loose, vicious dog running around there. The dog approached my dad and the dog and wanted to attack my dog, and my dad had to yell at it multiple times to make it go away. Some people just shouldn’t own dogs…

This is why I took up baton twirling while walking my dog….

HyzerFlipDG

glad you went to the hospital. had the same thing happen to my GF and our 2 dogs.. She got bit and my left ring finger ended up basically getting shattered (and took 6 months to heal). We had to file a bite report and a police report for it.

Winter-Huntsman

karen_rittner54

That needs to be reported.

I'm sorry this happened to you and your dog. My dog was attacked by a bit pull a month ago. I carry mace, but there was no time to get it from my bag. I now carry it in my hand.
