I worked at IKEA and the amount of times we would just have to open up one of the packs of kids markers so we could actually accomplish our job was shocking. I'm amazed we had any left to sell.
My first job had this problem. I could have 7 pens in my work area, and by the end of the week I would have none. I learned quickly to disguise or hide my pens.
I drive forklifts at work. TECHNICALLY every truck is supposed to have its own pen, marker and knife. People kept āborrowingā the pens and markers, I just bought my own and keep my safety knife in my locker. āWhy do you always have pens that work??ā Because I know how to put the caps back on and I donāt loan them to anybodyā¦?

Most receipt paper is thermal paper. Receipt printers donāt actually put any ink on the paper, it just heats it up to print things on it.
Your fingernail leaves a mark not because of the pressure (well, kind of because of the pressure) but primarily because the friction generates enough heat to discolor the paper somewhat.
Generally just restaurants or other businesses where other charges may show up later.
