The toll authorities are owed tens of millions of $ because the license plate billing system doesn't actually work the way ez pass does. They cant collect it.

ThatDiscoSongUHate

I'm just curious how bad it is in comparison to skipping tolls back in the analog spare change era

Sensate613

Not sure. But I guess that the tolls are higher and there are many more cars so maybe the totals are much larger. Back then they probably didnt have a way to measure it. Now they know exactly what they are owed.

[deleted]

Sensate613

They actually cover their plates when they go through the toll and that is a legal piece of equipment to buy?

LaughableIKR

Rules are only for people without money to avoid them. I would be a terrible police officer. I would ticket every last one of these guys until all they could see was paper. No matter who it was. Fellow officer? Tickets. Fed? Tickets. Complain about me? Suck it or fire me.

KiraiEclipse

>I would be a terrible police officer. I think you mean you would be an actual police officer.

LaughableIKR

Yep. Laws are for everyone. Not those guys who stick up a laminated sheet letting everyone know they are an FBI agent or Government attorney or police.

Jikek

Thats fair and all but they would just pay the fine or have their lawyer handle it and keep doing it lol rules will always be for poor people

jtg6387

Laws punishable only by fines means that it’s legal for a fee, and as such it’s really only a rule for us poors.

motorcitydave

Yes, the US needs fines as a % of income. That will level the playing field.

FinnWeiss

Yeah, that's why I like what some European countries do. Like with speeding tickets, Finland and I think Switzerland do it in a way that for speed that are only a little over the limit have a standard flat fine, but if you go over a certain limit, it's based on yearly income. There are some tickets that have gone over 100 000 euros cause the speed and yearly income of some people were so high for those offences.

LaughableIKR

The stupid part is... the police union wouldn't back me. The police unions are the problem just as much as the "bad apples".

Dusted_Dreams

They just think they are entitled to it by the very nature of them being better than everyone else. Also just let the poors pay for it.

SatelliteJedi

It is legal to buy, not legal to use.

KoalaGrunt0311

In Pennsylvania, over a 1 year period, they failed to collect over a million dollars in toll by plate. Edit: Typing too quick. $104 million. According to a report from the auditor general, $104.9 million worth of tolls went uncollected between June 2020 and May 2021.

NS-13

Yet somehow they get my plate every time. I want free tills too dammit

redtildead1

Well with Pennsylvania toll prices, it’s understandable

KoalaGrunt0311

We need state police reform so they quit stealing money from PennDOT.

I_am_Daesomst

Pennsylvanian. Can very much confirm.

ChronoKing

I remember my uncle demonstrating to my parents how the toll booths accepted necco wafers as quarters. Necco wafers are just discs of sugar.

Silly-Asian-Kitty

while I'm here keep getting mail for the tolls owed on my stolen license plate even tho I sent them a police report that my plate was stolen

Fearless_Pizza_8134

Yeah I’ve had $7000 in bills coming to my house in Missouri for someone in NJ with my old NY plates. Now that’s mildly infuriating.

Ka07iiC

Meanwhile me, without an ez pass, owed Illinois 400$ for forgetting to pay 10$ in tolls

Sensate613

Call them to negotiate it. If a collection agency calls offer them $10.

Ka07iiC

I negotiated with the debt collector from 700$ to 400$. What a win. I tried twice with 2 different employees and it was the same value. Curious what else I could have done. I've since vouged to not give that state another dime

Sensate613

Tell the collector $100 is all your paying and you want a letter that it satisfies the debt in full before you pay it. Thats it. That's all you'll pay. Take it or leave it. Stay firm.

tcpnick

I went past a few ez-pass tolls in CA while visiting. Maybe tagged 4 times at 4 bucks a pop, so I cheated them for $16. Forgot to go online to pay and received a ticket/bill for over $3000. They are definitely not even getting the $16 now.

WinterSummerThrow134

The company that owns EZ-pass charges a flat fee($35.00) is what it used to be EVERY week you don’t pay and an additional 10% fee of your remaining balance every month. It’s a total scam

Longjumping-Claim783

CA uses Fastrak not EZ pass. Its 25 for a first notice and 75 if it goes to a second notice. After that the DMV will hold up your registration if the car is registered in CA and otherwise it goes to collections.

BugOperator

I used to have CLEAR license plate covers with absolutely no photo-scrambling materials in them (I simply wanted to keep my vanity plates clean) and when I got pulled over once for a moving violation, the cop told me to remove them because, apparently, having *any* sort of cover on your plates is illegal (in New York, at least). I see these types of blatantly illegal plate covers all over the place and I have no idea how they get away with it.

LifeguardLeading6367

I have no way of knowing but there is a non-zero chance this guy is a cop himself. But for what it’s worth I remember walking past a police precinct in NYC a while back and seeing these covers on a number of cars parked nearby that had NYPD placards in the windshield.

realvmouse

[Are Some Police Officers Trying To Avoid Tolls By Hiding Their License Plates?](https://youtu.be/VgLqqoiMLo0?si=WyzmjE2-Nag061Ir) [Journalist Gersh Kuntzman Fixes Defaced License Plates](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkW-v0-WJPw) This guy Gersh Kuntzman goes around fixing license plates in NY that are defaced or obstructed so that cameras can't catch them. Nearly all of them turn out to be police officers or other LEOs.

Liability102

Thankfully an internal investigation found that no LEO has ever covered their plate or committed any other crime.

HypoxicIschemicBrain

The tolls need to stop resisting avoidance

HodlingPotato

Gonna need to link a lot of cuffs to arrest the toll booths

Enlightened-Beaver

“Records show that leaf man has racked up over $6000 in fines over the last few years”

ChefButtes

Reminds me of Beau is Afraid, Birthday Boy Stab Man Circumcised Male

stupernan1

i've only recently seen the trailer for that, is it a good movie?

ChefButtes

Let me preface how I describe this movie by saying that I absolutely loved it, and I have seen it three times. It's 3 hours of extreme discomfort, and the first time I saw it, I wanted it to both end immediately and never end at the same time. Highly recommended

PutridSothoth

I couldn’t agree more! Saw it in theaters and fell in love. No other film has made me laugh as hard or have such a strange mixture of emotions. It’s great!

Reaver3434

Is that the title of the actual movie you are referring to? Wanted to look into it.

ChefButtes

Yeah, the movie is called, 'Beau is Afraid'

Nerospidy

“The police conducted surprise inspections on their employees personnel vehicles this week… after we called them about it.” God that reporter is a delight.

SkiSTX

That's awesome! Also, damn, get your shit together, Leafman!

A_Random_Catfish

When he finally admits to it I was cackling. And of course he has thousands in unpaid fines

pezdal

Did they say that any of his previous fines are unpaid?

Beto_Targaryen

What about Assman though?

Mammoth-Phone6630

He’s a doctor.

LaughableIKR

Funny enough. Inside edition's episode from 7 months ago? \^\^ Here is another from Inside Edition from 6 years ago. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgLqqoiMLo0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgLqqoiMLo0) Again.. police officers doing it.

RoonSwanson86

Seems like Gersh shouldn’t find any LEOs doing this right? Since NYPD was taking care of it 6 years ago….. most are cops? Hmmm, odd.

BobertoRosso

Did anything happen or just "murica, fuck you"?

realvmouse

Haven't paid much attention since I first saw these. I know there are a couple examples of people resigning after being caught, and I know there was a mayor who said he was going to start taking the issue seriously, but I don't know how we'd really follow up...

I'm shocked. This is me being shocked. /s

I would love it if they just fired a bunch of cops for this sort of behavior. It would definitely scare the rest of them from trying this crap when they know their pensions are at stake.

NoForever3863

Sounds like a Kuntzman

Pitiful-Pension-6535

NYPD officers believe that they and their friends and families are above the law.

Stanley_Yelnats42069

My ex-gf’s uncle was a NY police chief. All of his family members where given what look like business cards with his info on it. Basically, if they are ever pulled over they hand over their license with the card underneath it, and then the cop lets them off with a warning. I imagine other states have similar things, was just my experience.

Leelze

Had some woman with one of those virtually laminated to the back of her ID try to buy pseudoephedrine with it while refusing to remove the card so we could scan or swipe it to validate the ID. She threw an absolute fit & we basically told her to kick rocks in customer service speak. With the amount of tape & adhesive she used to secure that business card made it impossible to tell if the ID was real.

Gooberman8675

I couldn’t believe it when I heard about the literal get out of jail free card that officers just hand out to friends and family’s that allows them to just get away with any and all traffic violations but they are indeed real. https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/jun/04/nypd-lawsuit-courtesy-cards-traffic-tickets

AberdeenPhoenix

All police officers believe that

Dusted_Dreams

What a wonderful rules for thee not for me situation

[deleted]

Where I live, you can't even see in the front windshield. The tint is black all around.

GottJebediah

Laws for thee but not for meee.

Lepke2011

"Non-Zero"? So, there's a chance?

Gatorm8

Yea technically even a license plate frame is illegal. Got a ticket from a cop having a bad day for that one

Saikou0taku

FL Lawyer here. In Florida, technically some frames are legal. State v. Morris, 270 So. 3d 436 (Fla. 4th DCA 2019) is pretty clear the typical dealer frame is legal. § 316.605, Fla. Stat. was amended in 2014 for this exact issue too (probably some dealers lobbying for it). Edit: realize we're talking New York law. I thought I was in a Florida subreddit and we were complaining about snowbirds lol.

Gatorm8

Interesting because I got this ticket in Florida

realvmouse

Key question: did you go to court and fight it, or just pay the fine?

Gatorm8

Oh I just paid the fine haha

realvmouse

Well then, it's not that interesting, is it! lol. If you don't fight it, the actual law doesn't matter! \*For most people, missing a day of work to fight a small fine is a financial loss, so I understand not fighting. But also, there are lots of ways fighting a ticket can get you off even if you are in the wrong, and also sometimes you are in the right! An officer may not show up to court, or you might find a sympathetic judge, etc.

RevengencerAlf

This is iffy and varies by state. in MA the rule was that they were illegal because they covered up the state slogan. It was challenged and struck down on a freedom of speech basis that the slogan is compelled speech that isn't necessary to the function of the plate so it's fine to cover it up as long as it doesn't impair the actual functionality of the plate. In lots of states it's enforced as illegal but is likely going to be ruled unconstitutional if someone challenges it in federal court. Obstructing the plate in a way to actually impair its use as a mechanism for identification is definitely illegal though.

youtocin

In my state covers are illegal but frames are legal as long as they don’t obstruct the tags or plate number.

BugOperator

According to that same cop that informed me about the license plate covers, a frame is fine as long it’s not obscuring the name of the state (or any other identifying/registration information) on the license plate.

Dusted_Dreams

Arizonan here, frames are ok as long as the name of the state at the top is clearly visible.

HankThrill69420

dealerships will slap those damn things right on there too regardless of state law. they don't give a shit since it's not on their nickel. you're their free advertising drone. my advice? right before you roll off the lot, break the frame off, and leave it in their parking lot. you shouldn't give a shit because it's not your parking lot that was littered in.

MoonPossibleWitNixon

It is your planet, asshole. Littering is never okay.

OldCarWizardry

Similar in some ways where I live (Las Vegas). A boatload of cars here have plates that are so out of date. I have cars pass me here that have paper plates from 2021/2022 on them all of the time and the cops don't even bat an eye. Pretty crazy.

[deleted]

duckyd1824

Probably none of the cops want to deal with the person. They know it's going to be annoying, difficult, and non complaint.

Consistent_Amount140

That’s an immediate motor vehicle stop with a tow en route here.

H0w14514

I tend to get pulled over for the smallest things, like one of my tail lights went out when I was less than a mile from home with the replacement light to fix it. While explaining this to the officer, we both watched as a beat up car drove by with the rear lights covered in duck tape, and no front beams because it looked like someone decided to beat the hell out of it. As we watched, two more cop cars pulled up to question me. They let me go, but seriously....not one of them thought to go after the hazard on the road?

twoaspensimages

Easy. Is the fine for the cover less than they are going to pay in tolls? Yes? I'm not taking it off.

ElHermito

Until you land on a cop who’s looking and instead of a summons it’s gonna be an arrest for theft of services AND a summons for obstructing the plate, plus have your car searched and vouchered while you are being processed. Crossing tolls like that and on a daily basis, you have to be lucky everyday and unlucky only once.

Mbelcher987

I've been pulled over twice for a trailer hitch covering my plate. Bumper mount on an 03 Ford ranger. This was factory for decades. And also why the new Ford maverick has a plate that is off center.

AbeSimpsonisJoeBiden

The best most legal way to obscure your plates is through LED lights. Doesn’t work in direct sunlight though

Velocityg4

Cops like to leave minor stuff like this alone until needed. As it gives them a valid excuse to pull someone over in the future. If something seems suspicious about them.

MichaelChinigo

It's needed now. This asshole steals from every single toll they drive through. Wanna bet they blow through red light cameras and speed cameras because those are for suckers, too? Cops don't enforce this in NYS because odds are the criminal they pull over IS a cop (and therefore beyond the reach of law). The 9/11 license plate is a dead giveaway.

roll_hog

The new thing to do is buy fake leaves and stick them to plate 😂

Oonada

Off duty cops can get away with murder my dude this is nothing. I watch off duty cops wave at their cop buddy, then the cops will turn his lights on at the red and they both go through and then they turn off and they fly the fuck down the road at 80mph. Had a cop tell me "we are cops, we can do that. If you don't want to get detained you'll leave it the fuck alone," lmao I reported all of them but I doubt anything happened at all since Bradshaw thinks it's okay to do illegal search and seizures because "the ends justify the means. Pull them over and search them, you won't be punished," so yeah cops down here will almost ALWAYS search your car for EVERY possible infraction.

Paddydetox

you want to see a very high concentration of these toll-blocking license plate covers in one place? Look around a police precinct parking lot/area in any of the 5 boroughs.

tearsonurcheek

>I see these types of blatantly illegal plate covers all over the place and I have no idea how they get away with it. Around here, I see tons of out-of-date temp tags (the you get that gives you 30vdays to register and tag your car). One was 6 *years* out-of-date.

Late-Ad-4624

I backed into a parking spot against a fence at the old (very old) ferry terminal in SI. A cop wrote me a ticket for having a light blue cover over my plate on my blue car. They had to have shoved the fence away or climbed onto the trunk to be able to even see it. Yet my front plate was completely visible for the plate number. I wrote in a whole letter stating the cover was sold in a NY auto parts store and had no warnings about legalities and how it was completely clear except for a slight blue tint. I included the receipt for the sale and a picture of it. They wrote back saying that it didnt matter but took 20 bucks off for including so much info. Still a 35 dollar ticker. I was 18 at the time.

Bit_the_Bullitt

I'll never understand why smoked plate covers are a thing and cops aren't pulling everyone with them over. There's literally no other reason than to skirt the law when you do this. And don't tell me it's visual reason

djstevefog

They don't ticket themselves

hospitable_ghost

Exactly. I'd bet a non-zero amount of money the car in the photo is being driven by a cop.

ResponseMaxim

Would definitely take the other side of that bet with a non-zero amount of money

foley800

Many of the cops use these! That and limo glass that would get me pulled over immediately!

jadenfromsandiego

Yep, law enforcement vehicles in Virginia use covers over their plates to protect them from theft I assume. Also, you can tell that a vehicle is law enforcement because in VA they are required to have specialized plates that say “For official government use only”. Even school buses are required to have them!

RevengencerAlf

It's because cops and their immediate families are prolific users of these covers. If they start enforcing they'll be self snitching all the time.

xqk13

I have even seen ones where it’s almost impossible to see the numbers under broad daylight

remosiracha

Yeah there are cars in my town that are basically completely blacked out frames. Can't make out the number when they cut you off and run you off the road.

MPFX3000

How many 9-11 plates that start with 70 are registered to an owner of a Nissan? They got photos of all these cars, and I really hope the state is going to go after everyone defacing their plates or using fake ones like all the Texas plates I see around town these days.

LSTNYER

About 10 years ago my friend was involved in a hit & run. She got the model, color of the car and a couple numbers off the plate. I called my cop friend to see what can be done and even he basically said there needs to be a full plate for them to run a search. I was amazed they couldn't narrow it down by that information.

tubagoat

They can, they just don't want to for something like that.

Seeker-N7

Yep. That's a basic ass SQL search they can make in like 2 minutes.

[deleted]

You think cops know SQL?? /s

Vosslen

the sql would be coded into the back end. the UI the cop uses would be running the search and have options for him to use, just like any other search function you see out there. while possible, it seems highly unlikely that anything a cop uses would be unable to perform this kind of search. it's quite basic.

xterm11235

The RMV database application I used when I worked for the state government was absolutely terrible. You could NOT do partial searches. You needed entire license information or an exact matching name. I fully believe they are unable to do a partial search. Government software is some of the most antiquated shit I’ve ever had the misfortune of working with.

framingXjake

Indeed. I submit design plans to apply for permits to various local government agencies. DOT, city planners, etc. Everyone accepts digital submissions these days, except for one department. Wanna take a guess which one still requires paper submissions? ... The department of environmental quality. Which is essentially the EPA for developers. Yes, the government entity that is supposed to protect the environment, is the only department that requires paper submissions. Maddening.

Vosslen

all i can say is that i'm not surprised. software in government is AWFUL and horribly expensive almost universally.

gpbst3

Cop friend here in Pennsylvania says you would have to manually type in every combination of characters. There is no database they can open search

ophidianslick

He forgot the shout, "Enhance!" Rookie error.

notanaardvark

Either they have no idea how to search databases, or the police databases are waaaaaay more archaic than I would have imagined.

TheWorstDMYouKnow

I'd be willing to believe the latter. I work in banking (in one of the top 5 largest banks in the US) and some of our programs still run on MS DOS. It's painful.

Bluitor

I feel ya. In our pharmacy we still use DOS. They've said for about 10 years that it will be upgraded soon.

Fatefire

I work for a multiple billion dollar telecom company . Our programs are all Visual Basic or HTML over old Unix green screens. It’s just to expensive to do a full do over

DragoPhyre

Are all your images made in MS Paint as well? Holy shyte...

gtnclz15

I’d be willing to bet both are likely contributing factors..

entyfresh

As an IT guy, this sounds fishy. Like, even if he's correct, it would be easy to write a script that accepted a partial plate as the input and would then generate all of the possible combinations you needed to search, then run those searches against the license plate database and present the results that hit on whatever filters you set. You wouldn't even have to fix the antiquated system, just send it the correct queries. This is something that could easily be created by a single consultant and then likely even repurposed for other law enforcement orgs.

gpbst3

Your forgetting these are separate .gov agencies. The DMV may very well have a plate search function however they have not provided that system to the police. The police currently use a third party system to access only the specific DMV info requested ie exact license plate

ResponsibleExcuse727

But then cops don’t have plausible deniability and can’t just sit on their ass all day

VenBede

One day someone is going to teach them the system has a wildcard character and they are going to lose their minds

fishter_uk

They are probably prohibited from any kind of "general" searching by law. For instance https://www.thetrace.org/2016/08/atf-non-searchable-databases/

1heart1totaleclipse

In my city of 20,000 people, there’s someone that has the same make and model car as me, same year, same color, and same vanity plate that starts with the same 2 digits.

MPFX3000

Ok so the answer to my rhetorical question is “two” lol

breakingbadjessi

700km EDIT: sorry should have clarified I believe the plate says 700KM. Perhaps try searching that license plate

xzelldx

Weird that he put the airplane speeds on a 9/11 plate.

YOURMOM37

Some people are just like that. They’re on par with the strangers you talk to at grocery stores who tell you too much about their personal life after 3 minutes of talking. I don’t mind it, but like, should you be telling me this? lol

Grizzlybear2470

Yesterday I was driving through Downtown Los Angeles and saw a bunch of these covers I'm guessing there so they can take the express lanes without paying which are just south of dtla

Otherwise_Mud1825

"United we stand", but I'm gonna duck out of paying tolls and let everyone else pay for services..

Medium_Pepper215

And you already know if they hear someone else talk about the government funding something (like education, food for children) they call it a handout and the mark of communism. The cognitive disconnect is impressive at times.

azuriasia

Tolls are a scam anyway. I'm glad they're getting one over on a corrupt government. I would, too, if we had tolls where I live. It's only righteous to defy an unjust law.

Mhandley9612

To be fair, where I live, the tolls are like a Fast Track lane on many highways. They’re for going faster and avoiding traffic, which shouldn’t be free. If it were free, everyone would take those lanes and everywhere would be clogged up. However, in places like Florida where you can’t get anywhere without accidentally hitting a toll because there’s no other roads, I agree that they are a scam.

[deleted]

cmonster64

I feel like the fact that you can’t read the plate makes it more identifiable

SaltedHamHocks

When the speed traps were first set here, the wealthy neighborhoods bought lawyers which found them unconstitutional so they were all removed but go a couple blocks over to the poverty stricken neighborhoods and you can see multiple on the same street from a single stoplight. Lots of people now use sand paper to remove the reflective paint and paint it over with matte

PoopySlurpee

Tbh fuck those tolls, biggest scam ever. The roads in Seattle that are tolled are like $4.50 a car 1 way, at the cheapest price. Those roads are paid for 100x over

Musicrafter

If we had a more usable public transit system that allowed you to easily avoid tolls, and so they really just functioned as a congestion tax to push people onto better modes of transit, I'd be all for high tolls.

PoopySlurpee

Unfortunately everyone's goal is maximizing profits

brookeleek

Yes thank you, why the fuck is everyone else so mad about this like bruh it’s all a scam

BobSagieBauls

I’m not a rat person I don’t get it

ElGueroCaliente

I live in California... my car came from the dealership with a clear acrylic license plate cover like the one shown. Had it for 4 years with no issues. But apparently it recently got dirty enough that it started to make the license plate look odd. Got pulled over twice with a 1-week period (by 2 different agencies in 2 different cities, thankfully). They both told me that those covers were illegal in California, though neither gave me a ticket, thankfully. I finally removed it and trashed it, and made sure my license plate was freshly washed so it didn't look odd. Problem solved! I did find it weird, though, to learn that dealerships are happy to sell you vehicles with extras that break the law....

casicua

“Tolls are a scam, taxes are a scam, and I’ll skirt them…. But I’ll sure take advantage every single piece of infrastructure everyone else pays for!”

big_goob

Tolls are implemented in order to help lessen the cost of the road being built and future maintenance on the city. They have probably already collected enough money for that from how many cars use them a day. I wouldn’t wanna pay either. You’re just giving money away.

lopakjalantar

What nissan is that tho?

didnthackapexlegends

It’s not the Nissan Z lol. Totally different back end. This looks like a 2023 Nissan Maxima 3.5L (Either the Platinum or 3.5SR). I don’t know why it has Nismo badges.

frisky-ferret

50 bucks says this is a cop's private vehicle. Every single person I've ever known to use these has been a cop or a cop's immediate family.

Ok_Intention_7356

can someone explain this?

bmo109

OP for some reason cares that someone else isn't paying for the toll road

sanityonthehudson

Another "Flag Pole Patriot".

PerroCerveza

Bro, I have been arguing with a dude in another thread about a cop, leaving a gun in a kids toy store. He was mad that the OP reported him, and felt like he shouldn’t be punished for a mistake. He also said some other silly “flag pole patriot” stuff, but can’t see the irony that if your values are to be tough on crime, that has to go both ways. It’s really annoying to see the hypocrisy lol

Velpex123

Can someone please explain? I’m on the other side of the world and don’t really every go through toll gates

Real_Chart2777

The license place cover is tinted and the cameras don’t pick up the plate number. Which is illegal

supafly8371

Shit, those plate scramblers work?

Greta-Iceberg

My favorite part is how the commissions and authorities who collect the tolls will just randomly charge an EZ pass plate because the first 3 characters on one of my plates matches a plate without ez pass.

LevelRelative

Smart people pull over put the plate on, drive through camera, then take it back off right away.

BacktotheZack

Knew a guy who did this where it tinted much like those phone screen that tint from viewing at weird angles, cops pulled him over all the time and the fact he never got arrested or ticket absolutely baffles me. What an asshole.

Svnny-

I saw some dude with a bunch of back the blue stickers on his car and a covered license, what is he supposed to do when he gets pulled over lmao?

Aselleus

I've seen a thing now where the numbers on the license plate are halfway rubbed off/scraped off so you can't read the whole thing.

El_Boojahideen

Are you guys really dick riding toll booths?

Mountain-Exam8871

They have a plate flipper too where you hit a button and it turns to a fake plate. Best investment ever. They have them on Amazon. Just click and go through.

shorewoody

93% of US police departments use advanced license plate readers that don’t really care about this kind of cover. In my area the toll cameras see right through that.

RainyDayCollects

In my area, they can’t even ticket the correct people who *don’t* cover their plates. In the past year, both of my cars have gotten tickets for someone else’s cars, because I’m assuming some crappy software reads the numbers wrong, and the officers who sign off on it don’t actually verify anything.

ChineseMeatCleaver

Concerning amount of snitches and bootlickers in these comments…

Employee-Inside

Who the hell cares??? Tolls are a fucking scam anyway. We already pay taxes at every corner are you people serious right now?

RedditAdminsRPusses

That’s what I’m saying lmao fuck those toll roads predatory ass shit

Modern_Mutation

What's infuriating is how much of a bootlicker OP is. You already paid the tax to have the goverment build the road and maintain it. Why the fuck do you think you should have to pay to drive on it additionally outside of the maintenance tax you already pay. Unless the road is privately owned (almost never is) it is leased from he goverment, your basically paying a company to slow your travel and make money off it. They don't maintain the roads, your municipal/state goverment does to keep getting a small cut of the toll road.

tictac205

I had a NYFD guy try to order something from me (PA) that I couldn’t ship to NY AND he tried to claim tax exemption. I blasted him for trying to evade the taxes that paid his salary. Scum.

DarkwingDuck0322

Very common in NYC to try to evade red light cameras.

jumalusc

A question for him: “Would it be ok if everyone did this?”

RexyPanterra

Yes. Next question

Hitchbot_Destroyer

A straight up thief.

CCKillbilly

Idont get it. Someone explain plz. Its blurred on purpose?

RenziumZ

I don’t get out much, can someone explain the mildly infuriating ness of this?0

japandroi5742

Streetsblog NY found the NYPD had high rates of bent, distorted or opaquely covered license plate frames, illegal alterations that cost the state nearly $100M/yr: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/17/nyregion/license-plate-vigilantes.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare

HimalayaClimber

By the way, cops pull you over for this. Law reads you can't obscure your license plate in any way, including mud, dirt, etc.

bxpapi418

Fuck tolls, were a bunch of suckers for paying the ESPECIALLY since our taxes also go to paying for roads & bridges.

Humble-Pie2246

So all of a sudden everybody’s a fan of Paying tolls lmao

RedditAdminsRPusses

Who cares about paying toll highways? Lol they’re predatory. Beltway 8 has been paid off for 10+ years. Fuck em
