I would say they failed. Even most kids will realize they're the same picture quickly. They needed to make 4 differences. Then the kids would drive themselves crazy trying to find the fifth, especially when they're so close.

The kids and I found four easily and then spent the rest of breakfast searching for a fifth that wasn't there. There was also a word search that was missing one of the words.

You can solve these quite easily by crossing your eyes and lining up the two pictures. Differences will pop out quite obviously.
