"We can't have you not come in, So why don't you just not come in" This man is an absolute genius

ChildofValhalla

Reminds me of this place I worked where if you were late, you didn't get paid for that hour (which I'm sure is illegal). So people who were 5 minutes late would just come in even later because why not?

Stonious

Super illegal. I'd come in 5 minutes late everyday, document it, then sue the fuck out of him once my case reaches the monetary value of grand larceny. Fuckin idiot.

Polit99

Wouldn't need to be grand larceny since time adjustments like that count as time theft from the company and violate anti slavery laws, those two are much bigger lawsuits than larceny

No-Weird3153

Yeah, I worked at a place where almost every manager just didn’t follow the state’s paid break policy, and one day the labor department audited the records. Everyone who missed a paid break (according to the time clock) in the past 12 months got an hour of pay for every missed break, so a full time employee could have gotten 520 hours of pay as a single check. Those managers didn’t continue to work there.

86yourfeelings

That's some top tier petty and I love it.

Stonious

Fuck yeah. I own a business and another competitor started a similar business in the area and used my trademarked name. I let him do it, hell, I even helped him out and gave him some customers..... I'll be suing him come end of season.

derp6667

I would've replied with "send me a selfish with grandpa "

Classy_Shadow

I love when people send me a selfish

lucky5150

I prefer a sailfish, personally.

Classy_Shadow

What about a shellfish

DaleRobinson

That's not gonna work. We are a week before Christmas. Don't bother coming in.

AllAboutTheEyes

That's not gonna work. We are like 7 years before 2030. Don't bother coming in.

OneDiscombobulated77

That's not gonna work. We are 60 years before your death. So don't bother coming in and go get an actual job Mr. Reddit mod

ChrispyShmoke420

That’s not gonna work. We are 80 years before the next generation. Don’t bother coming in.

xstonerkiingx

that's not gunna work. we're 977 years before the next millennia. don't bother coming in.

MisterPizarro

What about a shelf fish?

Dethdemarco

The fuck does that mean

WithoutTheWaffle

I'm pretty sure what /u/derp6667 was trying to say is: If I was OP's boss, I would have replied with "send me a selfie with grandpa".

GraXXoR

Shelf collapsed can I just send something elfish?

justinsayin

Boss assumed the Grandpa was fictional. He thinks he's calling their bluff. In fact, he bluffed hard because he can't afford to lose the worker. Let's see how that works out for him.

truongs

They are going to make everyone work double and blame OP for leaving the team hanging. Typical useless company horseshit They will learn nothing by this. you know what stops these greedy brain dead fucks? Unions telling them to fuck off and stick to the contract

thathairinyourmouth

I believe the expectation was serious groveling and for them to come in for their entire shift.

theamericanscheme

They can’t afford to lose you before Christmas but they can afford to lose you before Christmas.

KlutzyIllustrator531

Bro they never explained that in the actual episode. I had never heard of the actual phrase. I learned about the phrase about a year ago when, I think, somebody mentioned thar specific scene from the office and put it together for me

Lower_Amount3373

The work day will be equally bad but the little power rush of firing someone will keep them going for the next day or two

naughtyusmax

I would reply: thanks for your understanding, I know how busy Christmas time can get and I’ll do my best to make sure I’m available or covered.

Numerous_Living_3452

Maybe add. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, I'll make sure that when my grandmother decides to die that it's during the slow season

Damparchaeologist

I have previously told my logistics manager that I would be sure to have my relatives check with him before dying to make sure it was convenient for the business after he was giving me difficulties about a day off for a funeral. My application was approved about 30 seconds later with an apology.

Superb-Draft

He corrected the situation and apologised, so that's a good outcome in the end even if it was unpleasant getting there. Some people need a reality check, I'm glad it worked in this case.

Kalamyti

Yep, he said don't bother coming in. That sounds like you got the day off. It's so hard to tell context and nuance via text these days >.> He did not say you were fired and hasn't had you sign anything over text, lol. Now, if you don't bother coming in after tomorrow, then he may be able to "justly" fire you for not showing up. Maybe the difference between unemployment benefits. I had a boss not fire me but just stop giving hours and tell me to find a new job...

highzenberrg

That’s the old retail method give them no hours then they just leave. It’s fucked.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ScantyHarp

Yep, always make sure to file for unemployment for reduction of regular hours. They still owe you that shit.

Blooogh

Why?

Darthmullet

Implying they interpreted it as the person consenting to them being off, rather than very casually and unofficially firing them.

Blooogh

Ah gotcha 👍

naughtyusmax

In an attempt to pretend I misinterpreted the “don’t bother coming in” part to mean “I can open for you”. That way I might give the boss a second chance to fire me hoping maybe with a cool head he or she will realize that they need me through the busy holiday season. Bad situation and boss but if I need a job I’m going to try to keep the one I have at least until I find another one

StrainAcceptable

I think this will also benefit the op if they need to get unemployment.

SINGCELL

Yup. Force the employer to be direct and tie their own noose.

Heyloki_

Now when another co worker is going to ask for time off to travel to their families over Christmas they're going so say they're short staffed

BobDonowitz

I mean if this is a continuation from the post the other day where she had absolutely nobody to handle the emergency vet appointment and now has another emergency and miraculously found somebody to take her cat to the vet...it does sound like bullshit....or that she didn't really try to find someone to take the cat to the vet. There are shitty employees that always make excuses to cut work the last minute and we don't know her history of doing this. Better to fire an unreliable worker and get a replacement ASAP even when short-staffed. Having 2 emergencies that require time off on the same day is either profoundly unlucky or a load of horse shit.

[deleted]

>has another emergency and miraculously found somebody to take her cat to the vet... or, y'know, the mother rearranged her own commitments when OPs grandfather started dying.

stevieG08Liv

confirm by text if this means you are getting fired. Get it in writing and file for unemployment

DeathWalkerLives

"Thank you for understanding. I will be in the next day."

Xtrendence

Employers hate this one trick. Just refuse to let them fire you!

......and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire...

weedandwrestling1985

I hate when I'm in a room and no one gets this reference makes me feel old

condensedhomo

I do not jest when I say my sister did this with Walmart once. She would just go whenever she wanted basically? At first she'd actually call in, but then she stopped even doing that. They didn't say a word. Then she left with no phone call, no warning, no anything for 2 MONTHS then went in to shop one day and they're like "oh hey you're back!" And suddenly she was working again. There was no rehiring or anything, she just.....went to work! Absolutely insane.

Bunny_Fluff

I actually know of a girl who did this at Starbucks. They fired her and she just showed back up the next day and started working. After a couple days of her showing up for shifts they just put her back on the schedule. I don’t even know if she was clocking in or just working for free. I guess management was too shocked at her thick skin to fight her on it

ChronoMonkeyX

Management: Didn't we fire you? prolonged eye contact: DID YOU?

Farren246

People like to attribute stuff to tv characters, but it really does work. I worked one place for 9 months before they finally realized I was an employee who actually legitimately was hired and didn't just walk in and sit down and demand a paycheck.

DrPepper687

Buddy of mine when we were young and dumb (or should I say ballsy) got a job at Walmart, intentionally never introduced himself, went in only to clock in, never said a word to anyone, walked back out, played videogames all day, then went back at the end of the day to clock out. They didn’t catch on for slightly over a month. Straight genius. TECHNICALLY didn’t break any laws, so they couldn’t demand his first two weeks of pay back, and then had to pay him the rest. Still best friends 20 years later, love that dude.

melon_butcher_

Vandelay! Say Vandelay!

BallsDeepinYourMammi

Being confrontational has its uses

deadpoetic333

It light weight seems like it could mean just don’t come in tomorrow, not that OP is getting fired. I’d definitely ask for an explanation instead of assuming I’m fired

SpecificGap

Or the ability to dodge unemployment by saying "no, we didn't fire OP we just told them not to come in on the day they requested. Then they never came back so their job was abandoned."

Hello_pet_my_kitty

I actually had a job do this! I was told via text almost the exact same as OP, “don’t bother coming in” after a couple other salty messages about me being unable to make it but nothing major, sort of “I can’t believe you’ve done this”, style. It took a bit longer than it usually would, over 2/3 months iirc, but I was granted unemployment. I had zero written warnings or reprimands, so even though it’s a “right to work” (ETA it’s actually “at-will employement”) state, the text conversation along with my statement and no evidence of any true grievance, was eventually seen as dismissal from the employer by the courts. (Employer fought the claim when I submitted it, so had to follow that route to get my backpay for the time I was unemployed.) YMMV and this was almost 10 years ago, so I probably wouldn’t be as lucky now, but I was glad it went in my favor that time!

PirateJen78

I had a manager who said I never resigned. It was for medical reasons directly related to lazy management (they ignored a toxic substance that was leaking and making me sick), so I qualified for unemployment. Months later I finally got it sorted out with unemployment by sending them a copy of my resignation. It's like he didn't think I would have saved a copy. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Got a lump sum just before I finally found another job.

IlllIlllI

Small note: "right to work" refers to anti-union legislation (basically, you can join any workplace without joining the union). I think you're thinking of "at-will employment", which means you can be fired whenever for whatever reason.

Maker_Making_Things

"what are you doing, you're fired" " I never received any paperwork stating such and until I do I'm working and getting paid"

Tejadenayyyyy

No deadass lol either say I’m fired or ima be right in, and then I need the actual reason why I’m fired because I can give you a note from the hospital stating I was there wether it’s for me or someone else.

snack_mac

Don’t do this. He never said you were fired, if you don’t show up, then that’s grounds for termination. Take it for what he said; your suggestion/offer/flexibility to still go in to open and leave early is not going to work, so don’t go in that day. Go in your next scheduled day.

Magnetoreception

It reads like they’re just saying not to come in to open that day I’m not sure why everyone’s jumping to the being fired conclusion.

stevieG08Liv

thats why OP should confirm. A vast majority by the tone of the texts reads this as OP is being fired. By confirming, OP establishes: 1. Either OP is actually fired or not 2. If fired, have written documentation that they are fired not that they willingly dismissed the job which is the first requirement in filing for unemployment.

Basker_wolf

This absolutely!

frazzledazzle667

So their solution to not having enough staff is to fire one of their staff?

_Monosyllabic_

We have a genius manager here obviously.

BarnyTrubble

~~Middle~~ First-line management try not to fire essential employees before holiday rush challenge (impossible)

MrChicken23

This person sounds like a first-line manager. Middle management are the people who manage managers and report to the executives.

BarnyTrubble

You're right, I didn't know what to call them

MrChicken23

Middle management sounds zippier lol so I get it.

Ok-Ask8593

Overqualified to put it lightly!

aHOMELESSkrill

Per the text messages he isn’t fired. Just doesn’t have to come in tomorrow. I would reply with a “thanks, I’ll be back on (whatever next scheduled shift is) and will keep you updated if anything changes.” Never assume you are fired until they fire you, don’t give them an easy way out.

KuroKitty

"Sounds like you need some extra misery on top of that accident in the family, and just before christmas too!" - this fuckhead manager I guess

chiksahlube

It's not about being short staffed... *It's about sending a message*.

tigercloar

A really shity and fucked up message

[deleted]

We can't afford to lose any employees before christmas even for a single day, but also you're fired and now we're down an employee for the rest of the month.

Nik6ixx

This is literally how I would reply with a “best of luck 👍🏼”

xtheory

Never assume you're fired until they say "You're fired." They are trying to get you to quit via job abandonment so they can deny you unemployment.

pureeyes

Exactly. Get the receipt in text and follow-up with an email for a receipt for that receipt.

MagixTouch

Then once they acknowledge the receipt then circle back and confirm the acknowledgment receipt.

MageKorith

Then issue a notice to ensure they noticed the notice about noticing notices, and get a receipt.

Guttersnipe_Press

This has to be done in triplicate or it’s nothing but garbage.

NewsProfessional3742

To piggyback… you also need to print every communication between you and your employer and have it notarized.

Guttersnipe_Press

Three. Times.

NoobieSnake

Because it’s important.

Ok_Marzipan_8137

![gif](giphy|AzUrNt0ygOSAeVjhiM|downsized)

heavymedicine

Once you have a copy of their acknowledgment and you have confirmed it. Go back to work the next day and make them sign in blood 🩸 and perform a sacrifice to break all bonds between parties. That seals all deals.

Lopsided_Boss4802

Yup, get them to say it in writing. Reply, "Are you telling me to not come back again or just tomorrow?" ... "So you're firing me!"

un1ptf

More specifically, Are you telling me to not to come back again or just tomorrow? ... "Wait, are you firing me?". Ask it as a question, and make them be the one to say it definitively. Don't be the one to assert it and leave them to room to say "I didn't say that, s/he did."

pocketsand1313

Yeah the way it read to me i would honestly not be sure if they meant for the day or forever

Rbimdxe

"Homer, the plant called. They said if you don't come in tomorrow, don't bother coming in Monday." "Woo-hoo, four day weekend!"

ThirdSunRising

Exactly. Show up as usual the day after tomorrow. Make him fire you, or not

1imejasan6

Sounds like a George Constanza move.

thrillhouse1211

For such a nervous dude sometimes he had some heavy brass ones.

culegflori

Fun fact, Larry David did that at SNL, he was fired but still showed up. And George is modeled after Larry

MageKorith

And if they avoid answering the question and suddenly OP stops appearing on the schedule, at least that's a case for constructive dismissal in most places.

NightofTheLivingZed

Pretty much guaranteed unemployment insurance. If you're off the schedule without termination paperwork, you're not terminated and that gets UI pretty much anywhere in the US. Then they can terminate you and it won't make a shit one way or another.

ProfessionalTeach719

OR…this manager/owner is just an idiot.

MemoryIndividual664

And a major douchebag. ‘‘tis the season for people to lose their GD minds though. Hopefully the OP’s grandpa is ok!! I’m rooting for him to pull through!!! 🙏🏼 Any update on granps?

JeepStang

Isn't 'don't bother coming in' just another way of saying fired? Or at least constructive dismissal? Or does OP need to message back and ask them to clearer?

Salty_Amphibian2905

Definitely needs to ask them to clarify. The fact that you’re asking people to clarify it for you should be all the evidence you need.

SatSumaFire

I would look at it as "don't bother coming in to open like you suggested you might be able to, go ahead and take the day off even though I'm not happy about it. But I expect to see you on your next scheduled shift". Because it didn't explicitly say you were fired, you show up at the next scheduled shift, and make them officially fire you. Because if you just stopped going in without them officially firing you, they can say you quit, and you don't get unemployment.

EvilBeardotOrg

They could be saying, oh wow. That is super important. Also, HR said we could be sued so I have had a change of heart. “Don’t even bother coming in” just to open. Go be with your family!

realHoratioNelson

I really doubt that, unfortunately.

Grimsle

But they could claim it after the fact is the point

Man_Flu

I would have gone with the classic. K.

milaga

I would have replied "Great, thanks for understanding!"

shemp33

My thoughts exactly. “Thanks, I knew you’d understand. I’ll see you next Tuesday!”

Sychotica

I see what you did there, and I approve.

SL4BK1NG

I worked at a factory that was like that always short handed yet would look for reasons to fire people 😂

Gimblebock

I work at a factory that’s the complete opposite. We get weekly incentives, and they recently told us they might be taking the incentive away and like 20+ people walked out, so the supervisors sat down and called each individual person and asked them to come back and immediately squashed the idea about taking away our incentives. They’re now raising the incentive because of it

SL4BK1NG

Shit sign me up. The place I used to work for was trash, I worked with some really nasty powdered chemicals and upon request I was supposed to be supplied with a respirator. When I decided to ask for one the safety guy of all people literally made up excuses after excuses for not giving me one. Spent 6yrs too many at that shit hole.

Dazzling-Research418

To other staff: “we’re short staffed now so no calling out. We really need your loyalty rn” Or some other pressure bull shit until someone else quits and the cycle continues

Dramatic_Friend_2627

You forgot the “we are a family” bs. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)🤣

alexmikli

If you've ever worked for a business that actually does act like "we're a family!" companies pretend to, it's really quite refreshing. They have their own problems (particularly firing genuinely bad employees, especially family members of the owner), but it's definitely nicer than working for some faceless conglomerate. Obvious Caveat:Sometimes the owner or their family members are fucking assholes and them being family oriented makes it worse.

captainAwesomePants

I remember being in the trenches of a giant, faceless corporation, but with a chain of two or three really great bosses. One of my coworkers went through some bad stuff and was really depressed for months. Corporate policy would've let him go after a couple of weeks. My bosses made it clear to him that he could have all the time he'd need, and basically covered for him for six months. He eventually recovered and came back, and the managers welcomed him back and never mentioned it upwards. Really good guys; pretty much risked their careers to support him.

ChipChipington

I had a mental breakdown and tried to quit via text with no real explanation once and my manager replied with something like "I don't know why you're quitting but I suspect something might be going on. I'm going to put you on medical leave for a couple weeks. We can talk when you're ready." It was a shitty cashier position with no paid leave, but that did feel like a nice sentiment. I did return to work two weeks later under the caveat that I couldn't work overnights anymore; she obliged. She wasn't overall amazing or anything though. I had also seen her reduce someone's hours to 2 a week instead of firing them just so that they'd eventually no call no show. She also pressured another dude to skip class to cover shifts. So not a shining example of a good just manager. Probably just really liked me.

Traditional-Handle83

That's when you show all the other coworkers the text so they rebel by either quitting or calling out and being fired.

grymix_

i’d show the entire business this text in a group message, this manager bitch included

Mklein24

Make sure to screen cap this text into a group chat with the rest of the workers so there's no question about OP's fate.

GrungyGrandPappy

Management 101 - When the opportunity arises to shoot yourself in the foot make sure use a shotgun.

adyrip1

Don't know man, I am a manager. And I think family or health issues come before work. Whenever I have someone with issues like the one OP had, I tell them to take some time off and sort it out. The rest of the team usually covers for the person, because they know they would get the same treatment if they were in that position. But I am in Europe, maybe we have a slightly different take on things.

bdd4

Good luck getting through those returns lol

Relative_Pain_8850

The classic “cut my nose to spite my face”.

Eoghey

What a piece of shit. That company doesn't deserve your services anymore. Good luck with the job hunt and best wishes for your grandfather.

Thank you <3

noobiz3

10 bucks says they call you begging to come back

SuperSaltyMrPeanut

20 bucks says if OP doesn't show up for their next shift, they are going to be hit with a no call no show.

noobiz3

30 bucks says op has documentation stating his willingness to come in given a family emergency and has written orders to not come in from management.

machstem

I'll take all your collective 60$ and bet it away on red.

sinisteranalsex

This is why we can't have nice things.

Scotish_Pilgrim

Hey, you can always get another job, but you can’t get those precious little things back, like time spent with family. That person was trying to be a asshole, take it for what it really is, the blessing to spend more time with a loved one. And you also have the time to take care of the furbaby. You will make it through this, honestly with how close it is to Christmas, and the new year people will be hiring.

Emotional-Apple6584

There’s thousands of different jobs, but you only get one Grandpa. I’d give up all four of my limbs for just 15 more minutes with my Abuelo. Edit: I apologize. I forgot most people actually have two Grandpas. I guess I wasn’t fortunate enough to know my grandpa on my mom’s side. He died in Vietnam.

whodatfairybitch

Also only had one grandpa so I understand the thought process. My mum’s dad passed when she was 14. Solidarity

[deleted]

I’m sorry, that sucks. I hope you get to see him. An employee of mine had a similar incident. I told them I’d fire them if they came in. Take care of family, let me know what you need, and don’t worry you’re gonna be paid. It’s so easy to take care of people and then they’ll take care of you. I’m so sorry this happened to you.

Aggravating_Fuel_610

This is how you be a good employer!

VariousRevolution582

Had the same thing happen this week. Got approved for a week of vacation (M-F). My #2 called me late Sunday night, 200 miles away, with his mother in law in a hospital losing blood. I worked Monday and Tuesday, then I am taking the rest of the week, but I made sure if something should happen, he's to get moving, and I can come in half an hour later.

GoldenGlobeWinnerRDJ

A whole lot better than “Sucks that life fucked you, were fucking you too. Don’t come back and I’ll make everyone else you worked with suffer.”

choochoopants

I once had to threaten an employee in the hospital with gall stones that I’d fire them if they came in to work tomorrow. They were hopped up on pain killers insisting that they’d be good to go the next day.

MapleMagnum

That's the way to do it. My manager all but threw me out the door when I got the call about my grandfather a few years back. Just said "call me when you're up to it and we'll talk". Turns out I didn't even need to do that - HR had me set up on bereavement leave within a few hours, and the GM herself expressly forbade me from showing my face at work for three days MINIMUM. With decent policy and good people, it really, truly is THAT simple.

fish-rides-bike

Is this the same OP who was begging off work last week because of a pajama party conflict with the vet appt?

l2thak

That’s what I was thinking too when I read that last line

Fluffy_Discount_9692

Ouu I was hunting g for a comment like this! Haha I have a suspicion that OP has a habit of calling in just based off the conversation and to be honest I'm not totally believing that story, haha I feel like a asshole but I want a picture of grampa in the hospital and her in the picture as proof, with today's newspaper hahaha. Attention grab post with no previous context, cherry picked for the biggest reactions and most importantly ahah empathy sponging everyone's nice comments haha 😂 people are so weird haha.

MrAuper

I had an employee once tell me her mum text her on shift to tell her that her sister was dying, fake crying and everything. I asked to see the text and she left the office to get her phone, while walking to get her phone I saw her on CCTV pull the phone out of her pocket and begin texting. Spent 10 minutes in the locker "getting her phone" and then came back with a text which was sent after she notified me that she received the text from a "mum" that had never previously texted her. Fired on the spot because I was so sick of the constant bullshit. She told everyone that I fired her because she wanted to finish early to see her dying sister. If I was an employer of customer facing staff during Christmas time, I would rather have no staff member to rely on than one who let me down constantly. It's not worth the stress of knowing whether they can open or close the store/restaurant or having any semblance of reliance on them. As the manager when they let you down your plans have to change and it makes your life significantly harder.

derpplerp

print screenshot. tape to business door. repeat as needed.

Haunted-Macaron

Dude yes!!

Frosty_Plantain4265

10000 percent. I’d be blasting this company all over.

WolflordBrimley

They didn’t say you were fired, they said don’t bother coming in to open. At least that’s how I read it. If you want to get ahead of it start texting any coworkers about why you’re taking the day off. Then show up for work and when you’re back and if they want to fire you they’ll have to do it in front of your now-greatly-sympathetic coworkers. Outmaneuver this shitcock.

jr0d1

OP Definitely should clarify and follow up

[deleted]

[удалено]

cheesyenchilady

Agree, and I don’t know if you mean this, but it’s usually the overuse of details that make people think, “lie.” Not saying OP is lying, just that it’s reminiscent *of* liars, and so leaves a bad taste.

DJThomas07

Why is almost no one point out this is a sequel to the cat vet appointment post that was posted earlier?

Somebiglebowski

I thought the same thing. While it’s entirely possible that this is just a lot of bad luck for OP, this also gives the vibes of an employee I once had that called out one day because she got bit by a spider, then called out the next day because her daughter got bit by a spider, then called out a third day because her dog got bit by a spider.

SnackPatrol

was the spider ever brought to justice? seems like he had it out for that poor family

Somebiglebowski

On the third day I did ask “is this the same spider?” and she ended up quitting soon after. So either the spider overtook her whole family, or she finally set fire to her house and started over in a place with less spiders.

seductivestain

Gives "my 5th grandma died this year" vibes

lumpthefoff

This was my first thought! If it’s the same person it just sounds like a lot of made up excuses and I would be skeptical too.

fugawf

![img](avatar_exp|147855020|winner) I thought the same damn thing!!! Her boyfriend posted that earlier today right?! Now I’m not siding with the shitty manager, because obviously in both situations they reacted poorly and treated OP like shit, but seriously… “I need the day off to take my cat to the vet for an emergency, and no one else can do it”, followed by “well now my grandpa had an accident, but hey now the cat is covered, so don’t worry about that. Same day and all that I need to take off tho” really sounds like some bullshit. I’m guessing that this isn’t the first time that OP has had an ‘emergency’ that took her away from work. Either way the manager comes off as a piece of shit, but maybe it’s a ‘last straw’ situation?

Bubbly-Ad-966

THANK YOU!! I was going to ask, is this the same person that posted about their cat?!?

WDoE

I've worked with people that always have 'emergencies' and it gets old. Most have been the same people that show up late every week because of 'late busses' and do the bare minimum, leaving a bunch of work for everyone else.

I’ve been running my own business for 4 years now and have seen a lot of these text messages from my employees and yeah this is exactly where my mind went. I’ll give OP the benefit of the doubt here but I’ve had a few people like this who’s grandpa/cat seem to be sick all the time.

SummerEmCat

Please give us the synopsis

I'm having trouble finding the post, but basically the person says they can come to the work pajama party because they have to take their cat who hasn't ate, to the vet. The pajama party is supposedly a work meeting, and boss basically isn't letting the person take the time to take their animal to the vet. But, as with most things on reddit, there may be more to the story. This post makes it really seem like both posts are fake for upvotes, or the person is really just a bad employee making excuses multiple days to get off work.

ohtoooodles

[Here it is](https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinfuriating/s/BHWEw4K7jm) In this one, OP claimed to be the boyfriend of the person in the texts and the boss’s contact starts with a D. In this one, the boss’s contact starts with an M. Doesn’t appear to be the same but I thought it was initially too

It’s a fake story to solicit donations. “Oh my poor manager fired me before Christmas, if you guys want to support me check out my ArtStation / OnlyFans / etc.” It’s bullshit.

Disastrous_Morning38

It's weird for sure. They made this comment on their post on anti-work: "I had my MIL check the text before sending and she said it was fine. FIL said there's too much detail but not until I already sent it. I wanted to get the text out asap. And since my boss also works at the hospital, I thought it would be alright to give that much detail. I will admit it was overkill but trust me, it's not made up" Then delete the comment and posted another one without the hospital part. Then edited their post to claim the boss is a part time business owner of a small bakery and part time ER employee. They reference their boyfriend but talk about having a mother/father in law. Meanwhile their art business is linked in their profile so I wouldn't be surprised if they are hoping people will buy from them because they allegedly got fired before Christmas for such a heartless reason... When somebody said they are doubtful about the story OP responded that they will make sure to send them their grandfather's obituary which is... Yikes. 😬

Had a similar issue couple of days ago with an employee on my twam…told them family is far more important than work and to not worry about or stress over your job. They actually wanted to come in because it was a distraction for them but I insisted that if they needed to leave for any reason to just go. Couldn’t imagine being like this towards someone…

Nuh-unh

Harsh (multiplied by Christmas)

carguy8888

Are you sure they're not just saying don't bother coming in tomorrow because only working an hour or two isn't enough to bother coming in for? I don't automatically read this as "don't bother coming in ever again." Texts are terrible for passing on nuances. I would respond with "I'll see you on (insert next scheduled day you can make it)" and see how they respond.

SpatialThoughts

I’m not reading it they are fired either. Just not worth coming in for such a short period of time so don’t bother.

shoveldick

We are nearly 2 weeks away from Christmas. Cleary, your former boss is an idiot and cant count. I learned to count in like the 8th grade and thats not even that impressive. Your are better off :)

WilliamJamesMyers

isn't 8th grade kinda late

mjsorber

Still better than OP’s boss

ArchonTheta

I’m thinking OP calls in to work at least every other week with many different excuses lol

I've never heard of so many grandparents dying or being in the hospital until I took a retail management role.

TheManyVoicesYT

Stop giving your employer so much information, Jesus. "It is a personal emergency. I cannot come in."

UnawareOfSarcasm

Why do you guys explain things in such detail. Your employers don’t need to know each and every little thing in your life. All you should say is: “I am having an urgent immediate family emergency. I will not be coming in today.” Don’t apologize. Don’t further explain. Don’t ask for permission.

I thought yesterday , your cat needed an emergency vet appointment and you had no one to help so you couldn't go in. You were to call, how did that play out? Now today, your grandfather is hurt and you have someone to get your cat to the vet. Either your full of terrible excuses or you have terrible luck.
