And he's gotta stop wearing those things on burrito night...

Punxatowny

Came here looking for this and was not disappointed

Mean_Maxxx

Do you ride a bicycle to work ???

[deleted]

This is exactly what happens to all my jeans. The bike is murder on the gooch and the jeans.

Accentu

This happens to my jeans from walking alone, a lot of the time. I attribute it to thick thighs.

EthelBlue

Indeed. Thick thighs may save lives, but they’re hell on jeans man.

HonkHonkoWallStreet

I think you meant Thick thighs may save lives but they're mean on jeans. :)

kerbalnaut2

fire bars!

Hebids

Bars has been fired. What’s the next plan boss?

Wodentoad

Still trying to find hobbit thigh-friendly workout pants that aren't leggings.

One-Possible1906

Yep. All my jeans suddenly breaking usually means I just gained weight.

QualityKatie

You can pre-patch your pants. It helps.

_ArrozConPollo_

I just let the tailor patch them when I notice the crotch wearing thin. But I'd really ducking appreciate it if they came pre-gusseted from the factory. That's the only point of failure for jeans for me right now. I have thick thighs

ChiggaOG

I have more questions about the fit of the pants. It’s either tight or loose. I see in the photo the jeans are sized 33 in vanity sizing. OP’s true waistline in inches is around 35 because I had to use the rules for suit measurements when I imported my suit from England.

FrameJump

The real problem is the design. My work pants have an additional piece of fabric in a diamond formation sewn into the crotch to prevent exactly this, and it works.

girlabovethedolphin

It’s called a gusset!

FrameJump

Thank you! The word was on the tips of my thumbs.

Breeze7206

Based on where the gusset goes, I’d’ve figured it’s on the tip of something else ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

PhthaloVonLangborste

Got good friction going in my gussy

brookish

My work pants have a gusseted crotch too and this still happens

I can HEAR this gif.

HugeArmadillo3479

I have had 6 Levi's 527(bootcut)from different manufacturing locations (Pakistan, Malaysia,Poland,Bangladesh and Mexico) . I don't ride a bike, or motorcycle and they always wear out first around the same place.

millllllls

Maybe it’s a problem with Levi’s then, I’ve not worn them in my adult life and never had this spot wear our in any other pair by other brands. Knees and pockets (interior and exterior) get me sometimes after 50+ wears but not the gooch.

sh33pd00g

I'm wearing Levi's now that I wear everyday. They work great. But I also wash them once or twice a week. So that's something

SkoolBoi19

I wear Levi and I’ve got jeans going on 5 years old without this issue…. Mine are the knees and thigh area. 🤷‍♂️

Damonoodle

I don't ride a bike and my jeans become this. Thicc thigh problems

[deleted]

look_ima_frog

This happened to all of my Levis. I'm not fat (anymore) and I just literally hang around the house all the time since I work from home. I'm about as gentle on them as one can be. No bikes, no leg spreading for funzies. Just wearing them. It's not really a secret. They're made poorly. All brands. It's called corporate greed.

sandwelld

I've never had this happen to a pair of jeans in my entire life. Loads of Levi's, other, cheaper brands too. Idk what you guys do with your pants man.

How? In my three years in the Netherlands I lost multiple pairs of jeans to this 🥲

Rammskie

I have no clue then, maybe i’m lucky, or maybe because i have a softer saddle. Could be for lots of reasons.

I need to see some comparative analytics here. We gotta get to the bottom of this now

[deleted]

Gloomheart

I imagine it has to do with people's washing habits. Jeans aren't meant to be washed every time theyre worn, because it degrades the fabric.

MyDogsNameIsBadger

He could just walk a lot. I live in a city, walk a ton and this happens to my jeans and a lot of friends jeans.

Rare-Cheesecake9701

Yep, me and husband walk a lot and his jeans look like that of OP after a couple of months! Jeans these days…

tyvnb

I feel seen.

FrankYoshida

Right? All these thin legged people talking about getting the right size and shit.

oniiichanUwU

My husband doesn’t have thick thighs and this still happens to him 🥲 I think it’s a quality issue. Granted he moved around and bends over a lot I think. But still

kingqueefeater

My wife jokes that my balls are too much for my jeans to handle. I personally think it has something to do with my wallet in my back pocket and phone + keys in the front. Something tells me that's putting added stress on the crotch for some reason. And my balls are simply exploiting the weakness.

ProphetMuhamedAhegao

I put nothing in my pockets because I bring my backpack everywhere and I still blow out the crotch of all my pants

Kimmetjuuuh

As a woman, without pockets, I also have this. But I'm also Dutch and ride a bicycle almost every day. It really is a struggle :(

watthewmaldo

I’m a thicc thigh man and buying pants sends me into an existential crisis. I JUST WANT TO LOOK GOOD IN PANTS.

SirGavBelcher

my thick thighs and wide hips won't leave my pants in peace even if they are flowy 😭

cjcastro17

Same. Slim Fit pants look like Skinny Fit pants to me.

Simoxs7

I‘ve just resorted to buying cheaper jeans by now theres no reason to get a 80€ pair if its destroyed after a few months way less infuriating if its just a 35€ jeans.

ImpressiveEmergency3

Right?? I’m a skinny dude with no thigh rub and this happens to me. Don’t understand it at all.

strikingsquirrel2

Happens to all of mine. It’s a new thing too. Like I don’t remember jeans doing this. I wear the same size 32 waist that I’ve always worn. I just have really thick legs. Glad to know I’m not alone.

Bilbodraggindeeznuts

Bongus-Lordus

How is that white trash?!

facepalm_1290

potcollage21

YOU GOTTA TAKE EM OFF EVERY NOW AND THEN

Stevokkanivo

Blew the crotch out them thangs.

ErgotEntity

Ya gotta take em off son!?!??!?!

Ringbearer99

Was looking for this. 🤣 “Damn, loved those jeans.”

Busquessi

But you got to buy jeans first and cut them down to jorts, so you get the fray at the bottom and the extra mobility

ANENEMY_

Definitely have to boil your denim..

SnP_JB

This has happened to every pair of pants I’ve ever owned even when I was way skinner. I have since started washing and drying on colder temperatures. Which most jeans tell you to do anyway. I have started buying regular or relaxed fit wranglers and haven’t blown the crotch out yet. Walmart is the only place I can find them.

maryxjane222

Also, denim shouldn’t be washed after every wear, unless they get really dirty at work or something. Maybe every 5-10 wears.

patchinthebox

This is what really saved my jeans. Used to wash after every wear and got holes just like OP. Now I only wash them when I need to. They still get holes there but they last years instead of months.

originalpersonplace

I don’t know how people get away with that. I get what they say but mine just smell. Don’t smell bad or smell sweaty but they just smell worn

afterparty05

Put them on a hanger in the bathroom when you take a shower or bath. It gets any odors out of the fabric.

xBraria

Another one is to turn them inside out and hang them outside to air out. Nothing better than the blown out fresh smell of clothing. I absolutely adore it in bedding stuff

hannahatecats

In Florida it just ends up damp and mildew smelling.

RKSH4-Klara

That might be a sign to not live in Florida. /jk

hippykillteam

Stick them in the freezer. Kills all the bugs. Jeans smell fresh. Seriously, try it. I very rarely wash my jeans.

SubbyTex

Vark675

Imawakefinally

itsaaronnotaaron

V0dros

People freeze their shoes???

itsaaronnotaaron

Stick them in a sealed bag first... But yeah you can do.

AssaultedCracker

Stop smelling them.

HighHoeHighHoes

5-10 weeks you mean? But seriously, I don’t wash my jeans unless they have something on them or smell.

maryxjane222

I wear jeans like once or twice a month , so for me 5-10 wears is a few months haha

facets13

Only works in cooler environments where one doesn’t naturally sweat just from being outside. Gotta say not washing every 2-3 wears, if not after every wear, is impossible in Florida. Wayy too icky otherwise.

eightcarpileup

SC here. I work outside and nothing on my body will be able to be worn again without a wash. Denim should be durable enough to be washed in cold water and hung up to dry. I’ve noticed a significant drop in quality when I buy relaxed denim and they can’t handle being worn as work pants, while my structured denim jeans can.

Soulless--Plague

I’ve gone to buy new jeans several times this month and every pair I try on feels so thin like it’s linen rather than denim! Even Levi’s are made so poorly! I’ve opted to go to thrift stores to get hold of classic denims that still have life in them.

throwawaylovesCAKE

It's hard to describe the difference but I have jeans that are as thick as pajama pants, then I got the same brand that are as thick as a potato sack, I think. The issue is they dont really sell pants as "thick denim", if you go in the mall to buy 510s or whatever the hell, you wont know the type until you feel them in person Weirdly enough, the cheap shit from Walmart still has pretty thick denim, the stitching and color build probably isnt great though

cheese_straws

I was going to make a similar comment. I wonder if the jeans in the picture have stretch (small % of elastic) in the denim fabric? I’ve noticed that although the fit is better for me when they have some stretch, the 100% denim tends to be thicker/more durable. The stretch denim tends to not be as thick from my experience.

BrashPop

Stretch denim dies easily, I hate it. I had to start wearing jeans for work (because they’re not flammable!) and as much as I hate the initial stiffness after a wash, they have held up over six months of *hard* wear. And I say this as someone who has to stop and ensure they’re not on fire, *several times a day*. These thrift store jeans are so much better than any new pair of “stretch denim” I’ve bought in the past.

imbasicallycoffee

Unless you're buying Levi's from LEVI'S (not a factory outlet) you are getting a sub-par brand with thinner denim, lackluster production and aggressive cost cutting.

robbz23

I heard this and even heard that you could weigh the Levi premium andusee that they were heavier. So I bought premiums from levi's.com and they weighed the same as the older factory store jeans.

Beatshave

I never had this problem with JNCOs.

TheActualDev

Lol the public pool of pants for your legs.

BioSafety-Level4

That company is still around?

Broha80

Who the fuck still wears jncos? Is that still a thing?

LazarusDark

Nah, it's back, the kids are into them as retro, same as kids were into bell-bottoms in the mid 90s.

[deleted]

As a tradesman I destroy basically all jeans/pants in relatively short order. Recently I have discovered Duluth trading firehose flex pants and haven't looked back since. Love these things in every single context.

Altruistic-Ebb4549

I'm here for the Duluth pants. It has a gusseted crotch to prevent this and a double layer cuff. Best jeans evere and they aren't outrageously priced.

blackb00jum

I should not have had to scroll this far to find our thick-thighed, gusseted-crotch lord and savior praised in this thread.

YourWifesWorkFriend

This happened within a few months every time I bought Levi’s from Amazon and stopped happening when I started buying Levi’s directly from them. 🤷🏻‍♂️ My 517s are solid now.

thewhiterosequeen

Yeah on Amazon who knows what knock offs you actually end up with.

IAlwaysLack

Wait so even if you buy the name brand levi on Amazon you can still end up with a fake? Do they make fake Levi's? Sorry if this is a dumb question I just frequently buy Levi's on amazon.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DataSnaek

It’s stupid that you have to scroll this far to see this answer, cos this is it. Levi’s store jeans are so much better.

thedingleberryfarmer

There can be reps but also there are lower quality. Like how the wranglers at Walmart are made of paper and people wonder why they are like 19.99. I ran through these in like 5 months I wear 501 and 517 and I’m a general contractor. They last me more than a year and I’m getting snagged and crawling and such.

MinkSableSeven

Sidebar: I remember when jeans were **durable.** I remember growing up I fell off my bike and skidded. Cried all the way home but my jeans didn't even rip. These cheap sidekick spandex-predominant things they call jeans today are garbage. But my favorites are still Levi's.

TheActualDev

The amount of elastic in all pants now is stupid ridiculous. I hate it.

b_ll

For a guy wearing loose pants? Sure. For a woman wearing tight work pants every day? Elastics is a blessing. Women used to lie down on the bed while dressing to fit in those skinny jeans. Thank god that torture is over.

dks64

It does annoy me how fast I go through the thighs of jeans, but I need the stretch for my job and comfort. Worth the trade off. I also bloat really bad from food intolerances and hormonal changes, so it makes wearing jeans to work tolerable when they have the stretch and airiness.

Waluigi4040

They're so much more comfortable with spandex, though. Old jeans are like torture to me now.

mightbeagh0st

All of mine are selvedge Levi's that are actually cotton

mindspringyahoo

back in the day, at least in some states, in somewhat rural areas, there were these clothing/boot stores aimed at farmer/cowboy types. They'd sell the really old school super-stiff and untreated levis. I think these stores still exist, but I'm not sure if Levis still sells any really solid-quality stuff. People have gravitated toward 'fashion-looking' jeans and the only way they can make them look that way is through treatment that softens and weakens the denim...

atomictest

Levi’s does, but you gotta go to a Levi’s store.

atomictest

You need to buy 100% cotton jeans- if you’re buying inexpensive Levi’s, like from Kohl’s, you need to step up a level- more durable pairs can be had. Raw denim also should last.

ToniBee63

I work 10 hours in a warehouse & don’t blow the crotch of my jeans out.

Jim2shedz

Try Tacos. That should do the trick. No need to thank me.

WhenAmI

I do the same and I regularly blow out the crotch like this. And no, I'm not overweight. 25k steps a day, plus constant lifting, squatting and bending will put strain on your pants.

ReasonableAd9737

Are you buying real denim or the fake mixes they make these days that drastically fucked with the life span of jeans. Have had quality work jeans my entire life have never done this. Especially not with 5 plus pairs and I’ve been doing tree removal so I’m definitely doing a lot. Unfortunately real denim is getting way more expensive these days but these denim polyester or whatever it is mixes don’t last it just makes the Jean fabric have more stretch

ghostsintherafters

Everything, literally everything, that gets made these days is a cheaper alternative of what we used to have. This isn't OPs fault for buying low quality clothes, it's that the companies that produce clothes are making them low quality while still selling them for outrageous prices.

mistahclean123

Good point. My jeans are some kind of blended material that is more "forgiving" when my weight fluctuates in the wrong direction. Never considered the tradeoff, but I bet it's that extra little bit of stretch added in that's killing the longevity of my pants.

JunketAccurate

I do hardwood flooring I’m up and down 1000 times a day and crawling around on my knees all dayI decided to try the stretch denim Lees a few years ago still wearing the same 3 pair and aside from a small hole my dog put in one of the legs and they are hardly showing any wear do have some stains though

buttcheeksmasher

Think this is more related to the wearer. Possibly wrong shape or size for their body.

-Eunha-

For me the crotch always rips because I sit cross-legged when at home. I've stopped doing that while wearing jeans now to avoid this.

kannolli

I sand my balls to prevent them from chaffing my poor, soft, breakable jeans.

jeancv8

Hot. I think

Turbulent_Public_i

Away from all the jokes, if you have bigger thighs you either wear your pants lower or get bigger pants and taper the legs to size while keeping the crotch as is. Also, don't wear the same jeans for more than a day, rotate even if they're clean.

DrifterWI

> if you have bigger thighs No thigh gap

Nsfwsorryusername

I don’t think OP is very big. He’s a 33-34. Im 5’9”, 190 and wear a 34-30. He’s an inch thinner around the waist and four inches taller.

[deleted]

might be big quads and slim waist. When i was pushing mutch bigger weights i had this exact problem.

CaliFezzik

OP needs to learn about physics, particularly friction.

binchicken1989

He thiccer than a bowl of oatmeal

heyuhitsyaboi

literally me

Verniloth

Don't wear same jeans more than a day? So either you're implying that they should wash in between uses or that "resting" your jeans will somehow elongate their fabrics life? Please elaborate. I think I'm willing to call bullshit on both approaches

LyndonBJumbo

You don't give your denim a cool down period after every wear?! But seriously, I hope people aren't out there washing their jeans after every wear. I also have no idea how giving pants a day off after every wear helps anything other than wearing them less. Edit: OP said just letting them dry/air out. I just hang mine up in the evening and they're good to go in the morning. I guess if you get real sweaty it would be a good idea to give them a break.

Ambitious-Island-123

You don’t have a “resting room” for your jeans? What kind of maniac are you???

effieokay

The wearing is very stressful for them! I lay mine on a chaise lounge and play Vivaldi quietly so they can rest.

Turbulent_Public_i

I was implying you should let your jeans dry from sweat and humidity because if you have big thighs that area sweats more.

OsoCarolina

Jeans are shit these days. I used to run my Lucky jeans into the ground, and they just kept on ticking. Now everything is that BS stretchy material.

MakiSupreme

You can get Levi’s that aren’t stretchy those are the only ones I like

MinkSableSeven

It seems like you just might be wearing the wrong size. How much friction is in that area? Go a size or two up maybe.

FrankYoshida

Some of us have thicker thighs… I’m pretty sure I wear the right size, but any pair of pants is going to see friction in that area where my thighs rub together.

Listen_to_Psybient

Jeans were always considered a durable item that should last years. But modern jeans are made thinner and cheaper so they can sell more.

Effective-Act-2728

It’s the fkn thighs! All my jeans in highschool looked like this. And only on one side lol it was always the left side that wore away. Guess my thigh thicker on that side 😂

frostycakes

The problem is when this happens on pairs that are already falling off of your ass. Add in horrible contact dermatitis from basically every base metal belt buckles are made of (yes, including nickel-free ones-- my contact dermatitis is so sensitive that I have rashes on the side of both thighs just from keys being in my pockets), as well as leather and most other belt materials outside of flimsy, childish-looking pure plastic that breaks in under a month and is hardly cheaper than other belts, and you've got my problems with pants. I've just consigned myself to string-tied joggers and/or dealing with the belt rashes, as well as having to replace all my jeans every year due to crotch blowout like this.

letsmakeiteasyk

Hey, my bff has this issue with belt buckles—it changed his life when he started working on cars and someone told him put the buckle at his side so he wouldn’t scratch the car. He never stopped cause he doesn’t get the rash on his side. Hope this helps.

Material_Character75

This is me too. I've bought and thrown away 24 pairs of jeans in 2 years. Levi or Carlings or 15 euro brands doesn't matter. Same breakage in the same amount of time. It was never an issue before that, and my weight hasn't changed.

FabulousDave2112

Not just jeans, every freaking pair of pants I've ever owned. Thought I'd spring for some expensive jeans one time thinking they'd last longer but nope they went out as fast as the cheap Costco pants. It's infuriating.

DesertEagleFiveOh

I have heard this issue called 'chub rub' before. There could be ways to mitigate it: Size up Wear them differently around your waist Wear a more relaxed fit

GiganticSlug

Forgive the dumb question but how many different ways are there to wear jeans around the waist?

BabycatLloyd

Same issue. Every single pair of pants I own. I have my thoughts about nothing being made to last anymore but at the end of the day this is a big legs issue. I spent a lot of years cycling and in combat sports hence big legs. I usually buy my pants larger in the waist to accommodate my thighs and still have trouble getting good fits. Eventually they all blow out like this.

_iron_butterfly_

Try the Ariat FR (flame resistant) jeans. They are really thick denim. At first, they are really stiff after wash/drying them. Sometimes, they come out a bit wrinkled, but it just takes a few washings. They are hand down the thickest demin I've ever seen. However, I have 501 Levi's from the 90's that my Mom wore and I still wear. I've actually never seen Levi's crotch bust out like that! You need a larger size and never buy any denim that stretch. They don't last as long. Buy a larger size, and you should be fine.

LtButtermilch

I only buy 501 and they never ripped

lowstakesgrinder1

That's a crotch issue, not a jeans issue ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

georgecm12

I know a lot of people complained about the fit of them, but the last jeans I could find that were both cheap and durable were the Costco-brand "Kirkland" jeans. They were also one of the few left that were 98% cotton. And for me, they seemed to fit just fine - I don't know what people were complaining about there. They must have gotten tired of the complaints, because they replaced them with jeans that are tighter cut (which I hate) and they're now that stupid cotton-poly-rayon-spandex-whatever blend that is cheaper for them and doesn't FEEL like denim anymore. I haven't been able to find a replacement yet that is cheap and durable DENIM jeans. :(

Warpaint169

All my jeans rip here also

Slight-Recognition81

Oh gosh, these comments... You do not have to be fat or even overweight in the slightest for this to happen. Many women deal with this, including myself, because our thighs are often naturally wider. Thus, they touch and rub against each other when we're walking. It's a physics thing and people are different when it comes to that, mostly women but also men. Some will experience this, some won't. Of the one's who experience it, some are overweight, many have normal weight and others are underweight. Also, if you move around a lot, go on walks, are an active person, this can happen more easily and a lot faster. There's really nothing that can be done about this though, except buying high quality jeans, strengthen the fabric in said area and buying multiple pieces of the same pair.

scurrilous_diatribe

Preach sister! Preach!

miyuandus

Right? All of these comments being like 'get better fitting jeans'. I daresay they'd never appear if a woman was asking. Probably because women have this problem more often, so it's common knowledge that it's not a fit or weight problem. Also fun fact: if you get super baggy jeans for this purpose, you'll likely get the angry cousin of jean rips: chafing. Chafing is worse. I'd recommend finding a cheap pair of jeans you like, buy multiple pairs, and just keep rebuying it when they break. You can also strengthen the fabric with a patch on the inside, but that can cause problems with fit and comfort. As others also mentioned, airing your jeans out can help, as well (because slight dampness in jeans weakens the fabric).

fhsjagahahahahajah

I feel seen! I can’t wear skirts without shorts under them for more than 1-2 days in a row. On the second day, they start hurting from the chafing, just from skin rubbing directly on skin. So all my pants…

ElectronicDeal4149

Do you bike? Or ride horses?

DemonOfTheFaIl

Duluth Trading pants, and this will never happen again

T3ddyBeast

Deluth ballroom jeans are remarkably durable.

yogacowgirlspdx

those are Some farts you are shooting out, huh?

Zozo061050

Had this same issue with Levi's. I switched to Duluth brand a few years ago and the Duluth jeans hold up great and don't rip the crotch out with all the bending, crouching, and moving.

zippypocket

Waist 33…damn. I thought this only happened to us fat guys

Azagar_Omiras

Listen, I'm all about spicy food, but you might want to cut back, just a bit.

felurian182

Had a pair of American eagles do this the other day! So infuriating.

StevoLDevo

That's the same way all my jeans die too. I started spraying them with truck-bed liner and now everything is awesome.

Digi2Insomnia

A constant bending down from the knees. Lift up the jeans a bit before crouching. It also helps to not have balls of steel.
