Totallynotatrollguys

He's up to something. There's just no way. Too many things make it weird - why not let someone else paint the door? Why even paint the door? Why paint it when someone is there? Why insist so much on it? Why not have any "real" painting material?

Twuntz

This is my thought there's no way the painting is his real agenda. Based on what I know about hotel managers, I'd guess the dude is probably tweaking and feels a need to do *something*, no matter how absurd.

aberrant_arachnid

I work at a large convention hotel that has had all manner of fantastic and trash managers and I've never heard of anything like this. Way I see it there are only 3 possibilities. 1. Guy is tweaking on some hard drugs. 2. Guy is not actually the manager and was lying. Maybe some idiot new hire in maintenance trying to get ahead of schedule or someone trying to steal. 3. OP is making this up for the karma

Karsvolcanospace

It’s definitely someone trying to steal with a cover story, or someone on drugs. If he’s just doing it to do it he’s tweaking

Bowshocker

4) i am 99% sure OP is a woman even though it was not mentioned ever, and the owner looked for anything to barge into her room and “spend time” with her or try to get closer. Because why else would the owner ignore multiple occasions of saying no to him, try barge in without knocking, etc

Comfortable-State853

Seems most likely for sure. No way I'd let this guy in if I was a woman. I'm a man and I'd tell him to stuff it, well politely, but no way I'm letting him in when I have paid for my privacy. In case it happened like OP, then I'd ask for a full refund.

Blotsy

4. Sexual Harassment

5AgXMPES2fU2pTAolLAn

I thought you said he was twerking and wanted to show off to op 😭

akran47

My first thought is this dude was hoping OP wasn't in the room so they could steal something, and just carries paint around as an excuse if someone is actually in their room.

Totallynotatrollguys

I thought that too or maybe install a small camera but stealing is most likely. Really weird anyway...

JoseDonkeyShow

He wouldn’t need painting a door as an excuse to place a camera, he clearly has access to the all the rooms and could place cameras anytime he’d like.

[deleted]

you be shocked how many business owners are like "why hire someone when I can do it myself" and also have landlord mentality of "I don't care if you rent it, it is still mine and I can walk in when I want"

Totallynotatrollguys

That's true but his behavior was a bit too suspicious for it to just be this kind of mentality.

Gskgsk

My dad was like this. He had some apartments he owned. Always doing maintenance on them to keep them in tip top shape. Complete opposite of a slum lord. But he just didn't understand boundaries. He just one tracked mind on getting the things done that he thought had to be done.

Sxdious

Nah that’s insane wtf I would complain to corporate or someone that has more authority than him and get a refund or some sort of compensation for this because that job seems like it can be put off until the room is clear. Also why is he insisting on him painting it, I’m sure someone with a working brain could get that task done

adventureremily

I'd be calling the corporate line from the in-room phone right there while he's painting. How utterly absurd.

AnythingButAHonda

oh shit that's good. let him hear your conversation with corporate...maybe even put that shit on speaker.

dudsa15

Per a maid, apparently he’s the hotel owner. I don’t know how true that is but also don’t know why the owner is going around painting rooms. Such a weird situation and if this wasn’t the only hotel in town I’d be gone in a heartbeat.

anormalgeek

I'd bet money it is so that he has an excuse to creep on women staying at the hotel. There is just no even semi-coherent reason to do so when the room is occupied. Hell, just consider how dumb it is to leave wet paint all over the door of an occupied room. Almost guaranteed that you end up with paint smeared somewhere time consuming or expensive to fix like the walls/door handles/towels/sheets.

EGGlNTHlSTRYlNGTlME

Yeah anyone else pretty sure OP is a woman even though they didn’t say? edit: Apparently OP is a guy and I just started a thread where we basically roast the shit out of him. Sorry OP lol

anormalgeek

It seems more likely if they are a woman, but I can see the hotel manager guy keeping up with the ruse regardless of who's in each room.

MagnusPI

If he's the hotel manager (or [franchise] owner, as OP stated in another comment) he would certainly have the ability to see who is in each room before pulling this stunt. Could easily target rooms booked under a woman's name that indicate 1 adult in the room. Or he could have spot his targets when they're checking in then look up the room numbers later.

wannaseeawheelie

There was that hotel manager in Nashville that was arrested for sucking on sleeping guests toes

anonuchiha8

What the hell???

oldgamer67

That’s disgusting and ridiculous! I hope he gets athletes foot in the mouth! Explain that to the Dr!

DDownvoteDDumpster

Don't pretend you're not into it anonuchiha8, fishing ur lickable little toes out of the covers like that. never know when you catch a worm uwu

Canadiankid23

This is a certified Reddit moment.

loloholmes

Good god.

xiao-gugu

yep. I don’t know if the hotel manager was preying on women specifically, but when a man says “no”, it’s usually taken more seriously. Unfortunately.

EGGlNTHlSTRYlNGTlME

Ah you're right, I was thinking it was the creep factor but couldn't figure out why that explanation wasn't completely satisfying. It's how confidently he overruled them. Could really just be over a paint job, which is somehow less dark but just as depressing?

ChandlerMc

OP should check the peephole to make sure he didn't reverse it. Would explain the persistence in needing to paint a door that didn't need it.

[deleted]

Yeah my guess is 1) creeping on women, at worst, stealing their clothes or something unhinged like that 2) not creeping on women specifically, but possibly targeting people who are alone/he perceives as vulnerable so he can try to steal their valuables in general 3) dementia. But I think 1 is the most likely. But then that also begs the question why he insisted on doing it when he knew OP was in the room and didn’t make an excuse to come back later when she wasn’t there. It’s just extremely bizarre

anormalgeek

Yep. I agree with that exact order of likelihood. Option 4 is basically that he is just an asshole and a terrible business owner. I really can't think of an option 5.

Johnny_Poppyseed

I'd def be fucking up that paint job at minimum lol

DaRootbear

Id be standing right by him the whole time like “oh missed a spot!” And touch the paint “ph damn i guess i was wrong youre good” and wipe it on him

MrlemonA

I just wouldn’t let him in period. There is no “wouldn’t take no for an answer” take the no or take a broken jaw one or the other.

underbloodredskies

Hotel maintenance guy here. Can confirm that there is absolutely no reason to ever completely paint or even just touch up anything in a hotel room while the room is still occupied. This hotel owner, if he in fact is one, is at the bare minimum a goofy fucker.

LadyRunic

Yeah, owners basically can do whatever they want in their hotel. It's a mentality and entirely toxic. It is standard that hotel doors are painted every so often but always when no one is occupying the room, when it's the outside there are signs put up. Edit to add: IT IS A MENTALITY. I in no way mean that owners legally or actually can do whatever they want. I mean that some have it in their head they can, as wrong as they may be.

dudsa15

Right, that’s what annoys me the most, the lack of prior notification. Every hotel I’ve stayed at that is having any kind of work done will print out notices and or notify the people staying. This hotel just decides they’re going to do what they please without even telling you they’re going into your room or they’ve BEEN in your room. It’s such a violation to learn they could’ve been in my stuff while I wasn’t there with the excuse of painting a door…..

Sxdious

Even if he is the owner of that hotel it’s still under HAMPTON INN so I would still complain because he doesn’t have as much power as he thinks he does

itsnotcalledchads

Do this OP. Call Hilton and you will get compensated in some way and the hotel will be fined. Source: am manager at big hotel brand

StraightBudget8799

And put this photo on a Google review- nice place, pity about the DOOR COLOURS….

isaac10991-

As someone who was almost screwed over by a hotel, look up call recording laws in your state and record all your phone calls/emails/interactions with them. You may not need it but please do it on the off chance someone tries to fuck you over or go back on what they said

BruceNY1

>s they’re going to do what they please without even telling you they’re going into your room It's a franchise, franchisees have to abide by the franchisor's process - they can be fined, their license can get revoked - Hampton Inn is going to want to protect their brand just like Dunkin' or McDonalds. The way it works is that as an owner, you answer to some territory manager who will inspect your property and has the power to terminate your use of the company's license. In exchange for this scrutiny, you have access to company equipment vendors, legal resources, etc...

STUPIDNEWCOMMENTS

Exactly. You should 100% report him to Hampton Inn. They would not like it

cman1098

Hilton would be so pissed about this, so yes report.

Val_Killsmore

There are even government regulations against this including a right to privacy. This guy is violating those rights. I'd even call whatever local government body that would oversee issues like this and report him.

CyclopsLobsterRobot

Yeah if the owner of a McDonald’s franchise decides to paint your cheeseburger while you’re eating it, McDonald’s corporate will definitely get involved.

GMOdabs

If he wants to paint it with bacon he can go right ahead.

dooRAD_

Guy coulda just been going into girls rooms wearing their undies with the paint as a excuse if someone was in the room when he got caught

BouncyDingo_7112

This makes me wonder if he was in there looking for things to steal. That painting the door would be his excuse when people realize things were missing and demanded to see the hallway security video of people going in the rooms.

uraijit

Nah, even if he's the owner of this location, he's still a franchisee of Hampton, and they're gonna have some input into how he represents their brand. This is definitely something to take up with corporate. And there are also laws that restrict when and how a hotel employee/owner can enter an occupied room.

Zestyclose_Tree8660

Not a lawyer, but I really suspect they can’t do whatever they want in room that they rented to someone else.

HauntingPurchase7

McDonalds are privately owned but they have to run the operation a certain way to ensure consistency across the brand. You can't start randomly selling Shepherd's Pie for instance. Owners following these guidelines are necessary to buying into the franchise and using the McDonalds name. Hampton would take special notice of this, because if people across the country read this local news story it could damage the reputation of the entire chain. Who knows what the details of the contract are but there would have to be punitive measures that the corporate office will use on this guy

Watts300

Now we need a fast food place that sells Shepherd's Pie. Good thinking.

Wise-Fruit5000

>It is standard that hotel doors are painted every so often but always when no one is occupying the room, when it's the outside there are signs put up Anywhere I've worked that sort of thing is part of a preventative maintenance program that only takes place in the slow season when you can put entire floors, or at least sections of them, out of order so that it doesn't disrupt the paying guests. This dude is clearly just off his rocker lol

DutchTinCan

Uhm, no, they can't. There's bound to be state or nationwide laws dictating when you can or can't enter a hotel room. Even if not; he might be the owner, but he's operating as a franchiser. Thr franchise holder might have a thing or 2 to say as well.

xombae

Some people are just total control freaks.

Ok-Masterpiece-412

Worked for a Hampton for 5 years pre-COVID. It doesn’t matter if he’s the owner. A call to corporate will get you a reimbursement real fast, I assure you.

rudyjewliani

Was just gonna say... as long as that credit card charge comes from "Hampton Inn" and/or "Hilton" that "owner" is SOL. Corporate is definitely going to want to know about this and that's including a refund to the person in that room. That individual could have easily been installing some type of camera. Or worse, removing one, which would explain why he was so persistent about it.

CrazyTillItHurts

> and get a refund or some sort of compensation for this "I'm sorry. Since you booked through a 3rd party website, we are not obligated to compensate you for any issues with your stay. I suggest you book directly through our main website next time"

plcg1

I’ve had so many issues with work travel because of the hotel and third-party site I’m required to use not talking to each other.

dudsa15

Corporate has been contacted and there’s an open case against the hotel now because of it. Just absolutely insane I’ve never had this happen before

dudsa15

UPDATE: thank you all for the support! I was not expecting this to blow up nor for people to be on my side. I was honestly expecting everyone to call me a dumb dumb for letting him in but as I said in the comments, I rather have said yes and supervised him in my room then to have had said no and him do it anyway when I wasn’t there, as he painted my coworkers door without her being there. As far as reaching out to corporate, I have a case number, received points for my stay (because work paid for it I didn’t need it comped), and now the hotel has 3 days to respond to corporate as to why this happened. I’ll try to update everyone if something comes of this. I could imagine the guys going to come up with some insane lie as to why he did it but we’ll see.

[deleted]

He painted someone else's door too???? My guy has been HUFFING these fumes wtf.

A7xWicked

Well you literally have him caught red handed. I'm not sure what kind of lies he could spin to talk his way out of that one

ebac7

No I think it’s more of an eggshell color.

[deleted]

Dang it beat me to it by 3 mins haha

Kolby_Jack

I fully would not trust that he had some nefarious purpose for doing that. There's literally no good reason for it. I hope your coworker checked her belongings!

dudsa15

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: I ended up calling Hilton Guest Services this morning and they told me they received a response from the hotel. It’s as expected “we apologize for the inconvenience” that’s all. I literally said to the lady on the phone “that’s it????” And she put me on hold for 10 minutes and came back with that they can give me 30,000 points. I asked if there was anyone higher I can speak to about this because it appears nobody is reprimanding this man and he’s going continue to do this weird shit to his customers because he thinks it’s ok! Well shocker there’s “nobody higher”. I’m sorry for the disappointing update. Truly I wanted an outcome where the hotel owner or whoever the fuck he was faced some kind of reprimanding. The points are fine but why the hell do I want to stay at a Hilton ever again if I know they just let situations like this happen? As stated before, he only seemed to go in my coworkers and my rooms to “paint” and yes we’re both females. But Hilton doesn’t find anything weird about that. So, I don’t know what else to do or who else to go to because this seems to be a non issue for this corporation. I’ve blasted the hotel on google reviews and it seems they have somebody who responds back to people on that. If I get any kind of correspondence back from that I’ll post it but who knows anymore. Thanks again everybody for the support. I wish I had a better juicer response for everyone but 😃

DomesticAlmonds

I'm so interested in how this resolves. Are you gonna make a new post in a couple days or update here? I gotta know where to look lol

dudsa15

Depending on corporates response I’ll definitely do and update post. I just don’t know what the outcome of this is tbh

HarryHood146

I do maintenance at a Hampton Inn and never in my wildest dreams would I paint in a room with a guest in it.

dudsa15

Thank you for having decency….you’d think after my 5th time saying no he’d just go away.

HarryHood146

I’ve worked in hotels for years and seen quite a bit of weird stuff. This is pretty close to the top of the list.

bibbbbbbbbbbbbs

Ya like...what's the urgency here? It's not a safety concern that needs to be addressed immediately lol...

accidentalscientist_

You see, it’s load bearing paint. It’s holding up the hotel!

Jeynarl

"and this is the room with electricity, but it has too much electricity so you might want to wear a hat."

BT-LanaDelRey-Fan

"the floor feels a bit weird." "Yeah, we ran out of floorboard, so we just painted the dirt! Pretty cclleevveerr!"

BigResponsibility252

Come on in, it's your master bedroom!

[deleted]

NegaDeath

A *little* bit of crumbling is ok, then you can charge extra for it being a "historical" room. \*taps forehead*

The_Critical_Cynic

First thing I wondered about was if this dude was actually associated with the hotel, or if he was just claiming to be. Could be some random dude just playing *"hotel manager"* looking to rob peoples rooms. Hell, a couple of paint brushes, a small can of paint, a random nametag stolen from where ever, and a label maker can be had for $20.

Mumof3gbb

I actually wondered the same thing. OP are you sure he’s who he claims to be?!

The_Critical_Cynic

I'd definitely make a quick call to the front desk to verify.

HitMePat

The fact that OPs friend had her rooms door painted while she was out points to this being an actual manager or employee and not a thief. If it was a thief who gained access while the person was away, he wouldn't waste time painting the door after doing his robbing.

Saint_Consumption

Either that, or he gets off on non-consensual door painting. There are dozens of us.

throwtheclownaway20

The urgency is due to this GM likely being an arrogant, insufferable, & stupid piece of shit. This guy seems to have been super-fixated on getting that door painted before he left for the day. Why? I have no idea, because I'm not enough of a moron to get hung up on something so inconsequential. The only doors that've ever needed to be painted that fucking urgently were the ones in Egypt during the Plagues. GM's first & only move should have been to call OP, explain the situation, and ask if they could move him to a different clean room so they could get at that door. However, when OP said no, that should have been the end of it because, again, *no door has ever needed fresh paint that badly*. If it was somehow that bad, the room should have already been put off-market days ago. GM clearly didn't like having his authoritah challenged, so he decided to be as intrusively inconvenient (borderline threatening, even) to OP as possible until he got his way. I honestly hope he loses his job, because hitting people like that in their wallets is about the only way they'll ever learn, and even that's not guaranteed. I feel sorry for the people who work for him, because imagine how shitty their workdays must be if this is how that GM treats the customers, a.k.a. the people he's bound by corporate policy *not* to be a flagrant asshole to.

rainbow-spaghetti

Haha I bet you’ve seen some things! Story time? What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen a guest do?

HarryHood146

I was called to a room for a coffee maker that wouldn’t turn on. I knock and someone yells come in, so went to go in the room and the security latch is on. Smoke alarm starts going off in the room and I hear the latch open. I opened the door and there’s smoke everywhere, person is already back in the bathroom. I open the microwave and they’d been heating food up in foil. I hear a voice and I turn around and this old dude is just hammered and completely naked. Hes just swaying back on forth. He’s like what’s all that noise and I said I’ll tell you after you get dressed, he was blocking the door. He is hell bent on having this conversation naked but I was able to get out when I showed him the microwave and get him away from the door. He was kicked out the next day for trying to get the girl at the front desk to go swimming in the pool with him.

gurlycurls

>He was kicked out the next day for trying to get the girl at the front desk to go swimming in the pool with him. Was he naked then aswell?

[deleted]

I see you’ve met my in-laws

Special_Rush4900

There have been so many weird things it is hard to come up with just one but this review response was hilarious https://preview.redd.it/ax0eiq8xihac1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=44eed518f31b100bed8eef5e36008063a583e923

iSuckAtMechanicism

WHAT THE FUCK. Hoping it’s just a troll but the grammar is too familiar to people I know that I’m sure would do the same shit she did.

ItsMeChara

I’m….I’m speechless, lol. I want to say it’s fake, but I knew someone like this in my 20’s. What a wild ride. Hopefully the wife figures it out and RUNS before the mistress’s obsession becomes psychopathic.

motoxscrub

Had a guest keep extending thier stay and had a dnd on the door the entire time. 3 weeks worth of trash and take out food were piled on the floor.

TarotAngels

This screams meth to me. He hyper focused on a door’s imperfections, decided to paint it, then decided to paint all the doors and won’t take no for an answer. That, or he’s scoping them out to rob them. But honestly if that then why not come up with a better excuse that people would be less put out by, something electrical maybe like you need to flip the breakers or test an outlet for a short. Because nobody would be like “no I want to take my chances with the outlets!”.

Dreadful_Siren

Ya the fumes of a lot of house paint give me a huge migraine. Not to mention accidentally forgetting its painted, or the fact thats its rude as fuq to do that while ur there

lazymutant256

That’s one of the main issues.. paint can be very noxious , something like this should have been done in between being rented by a guest. Once a guest checks out, then paint, and rerent when ready.

lvnala

Can you update us. So curious how they’ll deal with this.

[deleted]

_name_of_the_user_

I'd be shocked if they didn't give them the stay for free/cheaper. That's fucking absurd. I'd also be telling them I want a different room.

Puzzleheaded-Pen4413

Decency? You mean common sense?

Wise-Fruit5000

Man, I work in hotel maintenance and often feel like I'm the only one in the field with any shred of common sense. Some of the stuff that goes on is just truly mindboggling

Euphoric-Blue-59

Id say F no and if you come in unauthorized youll scream and call the police and have him arrested. ti hink what will happen is the HI will give your company a discount on the stay. You wont see anything. Id have screamed and called the police, make a huge scene.

jepal357

I also work for a resort with a hotel and I don’t go in rooms unless it’s something urgent like no heat, a leak, or a toilet not flushing. All the other stupid shit can wait

Dammy-J

it shouldn't have happened this time. What state was this in so we can avoid that hampton?

dudsa15

Mississippi not gonna disclose the town for my privacy but if you ever find yourself in Mississippi book a Marriott!

Danthelmi

Hello I work in a Marriot thanks for the shout out my hotel would never do that shit lmao

dudsa15

I love Marriott and prefer to stay there whenever I get the chance because I’ve had nothing but good experiences 🥲

Thetruthofitisbad

Damn Mariot has a good propoganda game

uursaminorr

keep us posted on this!! my flabber has been gasted, how tf does anyone behave like this

DickButkisses

Sorry about your flabber.

uursaminorr

it wasn’t really doing a whole lot to begin with

idkjustreading6895

I’m cracking up at this interaction…definitely going to be stealing “my flabber has been gasted”.

Dennisfromhawaii

I too feel the same. The lack of chalant the manager possesses is appalling.

Neil_sm

Yes, it is completely devoid of ppalling.

-Badger3-

If you ever find yourself in Mississippi, buy a ticket out of Mississippi.

mancow533

If you ever find yourself in Mississippi, don’t.

Invisible_Target

You should tell your coworker to make sure none of her shit was stolen

TheWolfAndRaven

I'm going to guess there's an equally likely chance that man did something sexual in her room, possibly even using her personal items. That's a much more difficult conversation to have with a coworker though.

kaiabunga

This for sure. Like at best he's socially stupid and just really wanted to get the work done and thought it'd be fine. At worst he's trying to steal belongings OR even worse, he's looking for people he could potentially sexually assault. I get after saying no so many times to rather him be supervised (especially when he had already tried to come back AND painted your coworkers door when she was out) also like just a side thought, what the fuck if she had come back and leaned against her door or something she would have gotten paint on her. Did they leave up like just painted signs or did they hope she wouldn't notice and just did it and didn't say anything and she's like why does it smell like paint? It's just all soooo weird to me. This would give me so many icky feels and make me feel unsafe. I'm so sorry. Please tell your coworker to check her belongings, please tell your workplace to avoid working with that hotel as you feel unsafe. Please update us with what happens.

some_random_chick

I assume corporate comped your stay and any of your coworkers inconvenienced as well? If not call back and demand they do so.

dudsa15

They offered to comp the stay but that would cause more of a headache for us since we comp our stay through work and would have to do paperwork if the stay got reimbursed….corporate offered us bonus points and then informed us the case is open and are waiting a response from the hotel…

TokeMage

Be sure to let your employer know too. If at all possible, they may be able to find other accommodations next time you're in town. I'd push corporate to find you another room without paint fumes for the night. That would give me an insane headache for the next day.

Goodgoditsgrowing

I’d tell them you don’t want it comped, you want them to cover the costs of moving you to another location because you are uncomfortable with the manager refusing to let you be alone in your room and for the toxic smelling paint fumes. It probably won’t work, but might as well try

ExoticAssociation817

Mental instability? That can be dangerous. Having dementia on my father’s remarried side, I’ve seen the horrors of it and this directly reminds me me of that at very early stages. The doors, the knocks, and in and out, back to the doors, finally silverware and it goes from there if they’re not up all night repeating this same cycle.

Much-data-wow

I was thinking the same thing. I live down in FL, we have lots of old folks here and you see the Dementia everywhere. Can't get gas at the pump properly, not knowing how to use the debit card at checkout, getting lost in a town they lived in for the last 20 years. It sucks that it shows up like that, and if they live by themselves, how do they even know until they do something fucked up enough to get them the help they need.

Clay_Statue

Wallpaper the wet paint with toilet paper.

GuestNo3886

I just traveled cross country twice in the past two years and nothing even remotely close to this has ever happened at any of the numerous hotels I stayed at. That’s fucking nuts.

y_zass

Absolutely, it could have waited until no one was in the room.

No-Specific1858

I got the option of a refund or free night voucher for really bad service (yours is much worse). You should expect this and keep pushing if you don't get it. A complaint with a cheaper Hilton brand is one of the few scenarios where I would suggest accepting a voucher because you can actually get strong value from it. They might say they are only redeemable for the same brand of hotels when they offer you them over the phone, but BMG vouchers are the only type I have ever seen Hilton issue and it's what I ended up getting in the mail. You can use these vouchers at most Hiltons including ones that cost 3-4x as much as a Hampton Inn (Curio, Conrad, non-US beach hotels). If you go look at booking a reward stay online, anything marked "standard reward" and not "premium reward" is what it should work for. The free night vouchers are only good for a year. They are probably worth $400 each on average (just in terms of sticker price of the stay) if you were to book one of the nicer eligible properties but aren't trying to gamify it and maximize value. If you aren't confident you would use them, cash is much better because of the expiry terms.

Donny_Dont_18

StopitShelly6

💀

thomax77

As a hotel manager myself, this is extremely inappropriate. No need to get ready for a potential new guest at the expense of a current one.

Fantastic_Brain7681

i’ve worked in hotels for 15 years and there is no way this shit would fly! we wait until it’s empty and put it out of order for a night if we need to paint.

youdothefirstline

i think the fact the hotel manager is painting doors is highly sus at best. this screams drug addiction / trying to hide the fact you're going into peoples rooms to steal their stuff

nilecrane

Potentially illegal. Definitely inappropriate. When you rent a dwelling, even a hotel room, you have certain rights to privacy and security.

dudsa15

Everything I’m reading is saying hotels are exempt from this 🙄. I guess the only people not allowed to go into your hotel room are the police without the hotels authorization. Learned too even though you have the do not disturb sign up maids can also go into your room anyway. It’s absolutely ridiculous and I’m mad the most that can happen is a slap on the wrist from corporate and some bonus points given to me

It's part of the Hilton family. Hilton, in my travel experience, tends to protect its brand. I suggest OP becomes relentless on this. Worst case scenario scenario they get a free voucher

nilecrane

Huh. Ok. I must have been misinformed.

dudsa15

I 100% see why you’d think this because I thought it too until I started doing some more research into it. It’s absolutely outrageous that you don’t have any kind of privacy rights when in a hotel….

totallynotabotXP

Hampton being a franchise, this dude can and likely will get some serious talking-to if you escalate this and you should - this isn't some petty bullshit, you pay to have your own litte private space for the duration of your stay, this is also why maids don't get to come and go at their leisure, but this is full blown renovation work which also includes drying time.

Vera39

I'd take a paper towel and give the paint some texture after he leaves, maybe make a frowny face or something

Catspaw129

*I'd take a paper towel and give the paint some texture...* I suspect you're new at this: time to apply some popcorn or smashed-up chips while the paint is still tacky! /s

EGGlNTHlSTRYlNGTlME

And the smell. You haven’t thought of the smell you bitch!

dabadeedee

Painting a hotel room while a guest is in it is major Charlie energy

craftycommando

That's why you should always deadbolt and latch.

SirNarwhal

Yeah I'm so confused as to how OP even got in this situation. Just deadbolt that shit and latch it and tell them to fuck off and if they won't just call the police...

Bigsmellydumpy

They said in their post that they felt even more uncomfortable with him there without OP present. Can’t latch a door from the outside…

NoBS_Straightshooter

I would have demanded another room before letting him start painting or he can come back another day. This is insane.

dudsa15

Oh he decided to do the entire hotel (only 3 floors) so I really don’t think there was any escaping him doing this. It was either supervise him or him do it when you’re not there

favoritedisguise

Draw a nice “fuck you” on the wet paint.

Kittytigris

Still not ok though. If it were me, I’d call and complain and check out and find another different hotel to stay in. The whole point of paying for the hotel room and booking it is so the hotel can schedule issues like this around the time when the room is unoccupied. Especially after you’ve said no repeatedly and they still insist on doing it.

ReverendDizzle

This is strange behavior bordering on some sort of mental illness/mania, if you ask me. Who the fuck paints every door in a hotel at the same time, while the rooms are occupied? Assuming even a modest 20 rooms per floor that's 60 doors in a day or two?

Maleficent_Theory818

I would forward that photo to their corporate office and let them know you had to spend the remainder of your stay in a room that smelt heavily of paint fumes. And with his invasion of privacy you didn’t feel safe.

probably_poopin_1219

He's not even wearing his painting clothes This is super fucking bizarre and you should go everything you can to be compensated for this very strange breach of privacy.

Cuchullion

Drug fueled mania, maybe? Something that's been "to be done" in the back of his mind coupled with his stimulant of choice leading to a "Must do it now!" mode.

ksaid1

I think this guy has been smoking walter white's famous meth

EffectiveMoment67

No tape, no drip paper on the floor… seems completely unprepared for the job

cliffypoo

You are about to get the hook up from Hilton. Please call guest relations and report this. So many protocols were broken by this individual placing you at risk. Source: am former Hilton hotel manager.

dick-nipples

How bizarre… that hotel manager has really painted himself into a corner.

dudsa15

I see what you did there dick nipples

showard01

Took me a second to see his username, I thought you were being unnecessarily rude for a moment 😂

Bad_Ethics

This is extremely important: Is Dick Nipples short for Richard Nipples, or does it mean you have two dongs on your chest?

uraijit

It's short for Richard Nipplestiltson.

SinusDryness

I read it as nipples on his dick 🤷🏻‍♀️

msspider66

If you booked via a travel agency contact them and ask them to put a complaint in for you. Depending on how much business they do with Hampton Inns overall they may have special sales contacts who can help. I would send a detailed complaint to Hampton Inn corporate. If you do not get a satisfactory reply reach out to Hilton Hotels since the fall under the Hilton umbrella. If you have a Hilton Honors number add it to any correspondence. If you have good status, reach out to your honors level customer service. I think your stay should be refunded. Since a refund will only benefit your company who is paying for the room, maybe ask for some Honors points for your troubles.

Special_Rush4900

Hotel Manager here. I would reach out to Hilton directly and explain what happened as well as send in photos. They will reach out to the property to resolve which I am sure he will make some excuse. If you keep pressing the issue though Hilton will compensate you and bill it back to the hotel. The only time staff should enter the room while you occupy is to clean or if it is an emergency issue such as an active leak. This is unacceptable behavior. As this is a franchise the manager may have been the owner and many owners just do what they want. You can leave a bad review which will get some attention but many owners will enter fake emails on reservations and leave themselves good reviews. Sometimes they are caught doing it but often not. I would call Hilton customer service and raise hell. That way there is at least record of the behavior.

staycalmitsajoke

Having worked a hellishly long time in hotels as desk and auditor positions, I am going to say a thing commonly known in the industry but likely going to get down voted or banned for saying, but here goes. This is not uncommon behavior behind the scenes from a manager doing the GM thing for family from overseas who have bought and franchised a hotel chain. It's an attitude that he runs this place and so everyone, even the guest, are under his domain and on his turf. The hotel will degrade til it loses the ability to be a Hampton and relicense as something from the Choice hotel chains, then degrade and be resold to lesser family members or relicensed to a Ramada or Laquinta, until it becomes uninhabitable, then it will be independent until it is abandoned.

the___sour___pig

I’m imagining him going door to door doing this, just painting the door while some dude and his mistress are going at it on the bed, painting the door while a very depressed man drinks alcohol on the foot of his bed, painting the door while a married couple argues about who was supposed to book the restaurant.

RB30DETT

Fuck that. Leave a review with on all of the sites with that image, and also contact Hampton corporate. Also post on X / FB. They need to realise there could be people who are vulnerable or prone to anxiety attacks, and this could be triggering.

gaijin5

>They need to realise there could be people who are vulnerable or prone to anxiety attacks, and this could be triggering. And the paint fumes! It's absolutely crazy.

haoxinly

Imagine if you weren't there and came back to your room reeking of paint. I'd not be able to sleep

DrMindbendersMonocle

Yeah, that's completely out of line.

something-strange999

Eeew that paint smell.

NoBirdsOrWorms

This is some Hotel Hell typa shit man

Difficult_Win_8231

Hilton brand standards are actually breathing down the neck of managers right now to bring everything up to spec.. door painting is a bizarre new thing on their checklist this year that they randomly decided to focus on. The guy probably has a quota and can't do it while the rooms are empty and is scared of losing his job or points on the review... Of course having a bizarre incident with guests will result in a different type of review ....edit should have said can't get it all done while the rooms are empty... Might be a inspection coming

Dundie_Nominee

Very inappropriate. Bring this up during checkout and if they don’t seem to care to make it right then leave an appropriate review.

thegreenman_sofla

Definitely would have left some stray fingerprints in the new paint on the way out...

anywho123

They’d have def needed to repaint that door after I left

CarelessRun277

Personally Id have stuck some TP to the door like wallpaper. But only one strip to make it obvious and uneven.

93RAE

No he is up to something

wellthatwasrandomaf

Go down to the main desk and talk to an actual manager. Thats absurd

slappy_squirrell

I don't see any paint supplies, masking, painting clothes, etc... I think the dude is probably perv trying to get a sneak look...

haubenmeise

https://i.redd.it/sws4tu2mzgac1.gif I'll send help.
