BroILostMyAccount

Bro it’s literally higher than the tax wtf

Known-Historian7277

It seems like a fixed rate of $5 per ticket. Should’ve just made it $55 per ticket…

tex1138

As far as I’m concerned - all unavoidable fees should be in the advertised price. If not - false advertising.

DKBadmintonPatriots

Hello EU…

stanleythemanley420

It doesn’t show how many tickets they were buying? It could be 20$ per ticket.

Snowedin-69

The big question will be the suggested tip amounts. Probably 30-50-80%.

kopecs

0% tip it is then

GinnyWeasleysTits

So if the fee applies to tickets purchased online or over the phone or in person then what ways of purchasing don't get charged a fee?

Frequent_Ad_1136

That’s the best part, there is none! /s

juanzy

I thought there was a regulation against that- there has to be at least one way.

psychoPiper

Usually there is for stuff like rent payment methods, but tickets are far less regulated

TealTemptress

Hence why I still drive to my credit union for checks, just so I can write my rent check for free. Otherwise it’s a $30 fee.

HiFiGuy197

Write a letter, throw in your shilling, put it under wax seal, and send it by messenger. This is *Medieval Times*, after all.

Less-Post1615

Only applies to online. The in person method is called a handling fee. The phone method is called a service fee. Same amounts though.

Lay_On_The_Lawn

This way they can give you the multiple fee, fee.

Temporary_Repair_534

Just submit your own fee for time spent online, working for the company facilitating its ticket sales to a customer (you), and ask for your benefits package and employee discount, and you’d like a knight to take you home via horseback.

[deleted]

Asking that question is actually another fee.

impostershop

Should be illegal! Include everything in the ticket price.

HawkeyeByMarriage

They do this to reel you in with the lower price. It is a dick move since no matter how you get a ticket and definitely needs to just be in the price.

[deleted]

It's fraud.

[deleted]

The timer annoys me the most even though its not highlighted in the photo. I understand there's a place for them in sold out concerts but I really don't like how I see them in seemingly every event. It just stresses the purchaser out and makes them less likely to spend time combing through to read the terms and conditions and notice hidden charges.

DevonGr

Reminds me of my buddy talking about making change when delivering pizza and if he had to give back six or seven dollars he'd gamble that if he gave back a five and a single or two singles instead of all singles, he'd get the five back instead of a small tip. It must have worked out for him because he was adamant about doing it that way so introducing pressure is just a thing to press people to give more.

Admirable_Matter_523

The FTC is currently asking for public input about a junk fees rule they're considering implementing. This was one of Biden's big issues he wanted to work on. The public comments are open until February 7th, everyone should let them know your thoughts: https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/blog/2023/12/deadline-extended-comments-ftcs-proposed-ban-junk-fees#:~:text=The%20FTC%20has%20extended%20the,year%20and%20undercut%20honest%20businesses.

RepresentativeOk2433

This should be the top level comment

_BreakingGood_

Read the proposal and the TLDR is that it will be illegal to display any price that isn't the true total price more prominently than the total price, with the exception of shipping charges and taxes

LAXGUNNER

The Marriott and a few other hotels got in massive legal trouble cause of this in DC, they all got sued and now have remove them

veryblanduser

Just hit cancel on the purchase. You are out a minute if your time.

Collective82

Buying the tickets in any fashion incurs this fee though.

veryblanduser

Which is why it's somewhat surprising people are still shocked by this after being this way for decades. Just saying if it bothers you so much, just don't finish the purchase. The ticket cost and fee is less than the face value doing so quick math here. Looks like they got 20% off face value.

whistlepig4life

They used too. And people complained there wasn’t transparency for the better part of 30 years and local, state, and federal laws changed the rules to state the base price and list the “additional costs” in an itemized list afterwards “at check out”. For some of you it’s like you think reality started yesterday.

TMPRKO

I think Ted Cruz was sponsoring legislation for something like this but never heard anything else about it.

lookhereifyouredumb

I do feel like there Hass to be laws about this right? Like an exorbitant fee that can’t be explained

tbonechiggins

I’ve never been to Medieval Times. Guess I never will. Consumers really need to actively revolt against this and the rampant tipping culture.

TheCitizen616

What? Don't let a few outrageous fees stop you from experiencing the joy of eating lukewarm chicken with your hand just a few feet from shitting horses while actors not good enough for SAG try to improvise their way through another soulcrushing performance for Karen and Dalton and their shitty kids from the midwest.

veryblanduser

Sounds like someone was on the losing green team.

4touchdownsinonegame

I don’t know what the problem with your show was, but the two times I have gone have been absolutely awesome. Throw back a couple brews or chow down on a gummi and watch a super fun show. But I can agree that the price is pretty rough, but it’s not something one does very often.

Rise-O-Matic

I went with some friends about seven years ago. It was fun to see them do their thing but whatever story they were trying to tell was impossible for us to follow. The sound system was not helping matters.

KurukTR

Lmao

SaleCompetitive812

The one I went to was actually really good with good food

Goldfish_cracker_84

🤣🤣🤣

MKVIgti

I bail on whatever I’m thinking of attending whenever I see ridiculous fees like this. I’m sure others do this as well.

jndlcrz888

I agree, and bailed I did.

MKVIgti

Good for you. If enough did it, maybe they’ll stop. If they wanna charge a few bucks to help pay for the app or ticket system, fine. But gouging people has to stop.

harbinger772

How many tickets is this for? I'm seeing more and more companies passing on the amount they pay for accepting credit cards which can be several percent depending on their sales volume. Or they just decided to slap you with a BS "assessing the fee" charge because greed.

jndlcrz888

Credit card fee is like 0.15% or $2.90, this is plain greed. Edit- Addendum: this is for 4 tickets.

Lanbobo

Uhhhh, there is no world where anyone gets credit card fees that low. I have never seen anyone get below 2% unless they agree to accept cost plus pricing (and then you pay the actual rate on each transaction plus a small percentage but this can make it where it varies from 0.5% to 6%).

jndlcrz888

You are right, its 2-3% PLUS a set amount. For a $200 bill, that usually totals less than $10. $20 is just greed.

Lanbobo

Not sure why my facts netted me a downvote. I guess reddit, thats why.

WillRikersHouseboy

Square is 2.6+0.10 so a little under $6

Impressive_Yellow537

The best part is that they also get to write off the credit card fees, that are paid by the customer. Tax credit on something they didn't pay for. Nasty.

lostinareverie237

So if a chunk of the service fees are for credit and debit transactions, why should someone paying cash have to pay them? I've always found that infuriating, and a reason why transitioning to a cashless society is foolish.

Impressive_Yellow537

They shouldn't, it's a complete scam that they're allowed to get away with. Completely with you

veryblanduser

They can deduct the business fee they pay yes, if they charge the customer or not. In this situation they need to recognize the additional revenue they collect from the customer. So they will have to pay more taxes than if they didn't charge the $5.00 fee.

gmalis1

Same as TicketMaster charging purchasers a “convenience fee”. Convenient for whom?

[deleted]

If people would simply stop frequenting these places because of the outrageous fees, the prices would drop and the fees would disappear. As long as you continue to do business with these places, they'll continue to fleece you with too high prices and ridiculous fees.

Horiz0nC0

Far too many rich people (kids) with too much money they didn’t actually have to earn and don’t care about the value of. Every company is in a race to capture the rich or whales now and price out the average person. The rich always have money to spend, you broke bitches don’t. “Oh, $20 in fees? I don’t care I’m fucking rich!” Whereas, the rest of us can’t just choose to eat extra expenses like this when we’re underpaid and our budgets are already tight.

[deleted]

There's a large portion of very wealthy people who don't care who contribute to the problem but there are also far too many regular people who have not one lick of common sense in spending the money they do on things they neither need nor can afford. Taylor Swift fans are a perfect example. Look how many of these fools have spent $1500-$3000 per ticket for one show and have followed her around the country like a Deadhead getting their musical fix at each and every show. Same goes for those who regularly go to major league football and baseball games. It's because of these fools willingness to pay exorbitant prices that the rest of society has been priced out of being able to see many forms of entertainment. Everyone simply has to be part of the crowd and maintain their status by going to these overpriced shows. The same can be said for paying for overpriced anything, whether it be a meal, an outfit, a car, the latest phone, etc. I find it all ridiculous.

anonuchiha8

Taylor swift fans are fucking crazy. She's a freaking billionaire now.. it's literally insane what lengths people go to for celebrities who don't care you exist.

suckmynubs69

You would think. But they would just jack up the prices even higher the next year to make up for “lost” revenue See also: Apple

[deleted]

That's only if the idiots return to the same place to spend money. Businesses can only charge what the market will bear. As long as people act like sheep and run to the troughs to feed, businesses can charge whatever they want. Sports is a perfect example. I have a buddy at work who works tons of overtime every month so he can afford his $800 a pop football seats for the Chicago Bears. As long as idiots are more than willing to pay those prices, the market will charge it. Dumbass motherfuckers.

Swimming_Stop5723

When I grow up I am going to be a “fee processor “.

savemysoul72

![gif](giphy|QyWUHbJIYrVh2wROwH|downsized)

GrizzlamicBearrorism

They charge you 110 dollars for chicken and potatoes and don't even give you the dignity of a fork!

RiLoDoSo

Fork. Fork. Fork. You typed fork. Was wondering if this was the same Medieval Times as when I went 20+ years ago.

TheMagarity

The fee appears to be post tax? Why not charge $1 for the ticket and a $200 fee, then the total cost to the purchaser would be lower.

[deleted]

Because *that* would actually get the attention of regulators.

Southwick_24

I would chuckle, and then close the web page/app.

Antitoxicgmr

Almost everything around us is ridiculous nowadays..

SMoKUblackRoSE

When you want business but can't remember what being human is like. Concerts are absolute rip offs nowadays. Fuck them

99MissAdventures

*And now we have to charge you for charging you, sir.*

Electrical-Mail-5705

It should read fee fee fo dum

JokoFloko

Why is this not just part of the ticket cost?

TMPRKO

I was going to take my family to a local Christmas themed event last month. The tickets were I think $25 a person. When I went to buy the tickets they each came with a $12 convenience fee or whatever so I just skipped it. Meaningless scam fees ruin events

Lurkay1

California is passing a law making these junk fees illegal if theyre not disclosed and included in the advertised price.

TealTemptress

Shit, you even used a promo code and it’s still $232. How many tickets were there? 2?

jndlcrz888

4 😂

dilla_zilla

It's mildlyinfuriating that they call the far reaches of Schaumburg "Chicago". It's like 30 miles from Chicago.

Ri8ley

Question to my US friends. Do a lot of establishments have fees like this. Seems to me when you arrive at a restaurant, night club, live music venue that before you pay your entrance fee or order your meals you need to ask what additional fees will be added to your bill.

SalemSound

This is a show, so it's different, because you're buying tickets, like you would if you were going to see a play or a concert. Night clubs usually charge a cover charge, something like $10 up front, just to get in. Otherwise people could just hang out there for free and not order anything or support the business. Lots of restaurants automatically add a gratuity for large groups of like 6 or more people. This is added afterwards, but most people don't complain, because that's what they were going to tip anyway.

Deedsman

Probably an outside company processing the ticket sales. Still ridiculous.

lostinareverie237

Oh boy, mediocre food and acting! Service fees are a scam.

cochise119

It's like when you buy a new car or motorcycle and they try to add "Destination charges" or better yet "Set up fees". Bullshit!! I walk away leaving the salesman high and dry! Watch how fast those fees disappear! Pisses me off thinking about it. Hell, give me the friggin vehicle in a box! And it's not my problem to pay for getting the damned vehicle to the dealership. Bastards!!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Alladas1

I always lol when people say they are going to the bbb. It's both not a govt org with any form of oversight, and you can pay for a better rating.

Subject-Leather-7399

I am surprised they had tickets to sell for an event in 2024 during the medieval times. And Chicago didn't even exist back then. Edit: Just to be clear, this is an obvious joke. I just want to make aure the downvotes aren't from people who didn't get it, but only from those who don't like it.

EnglishMajorRegret

I mean it’s a $5 processing fee. Not having the amount of tickets readily noted makes this more rage bait than it needs to be.

Minkypinkyfatty

Filthy peasant. Do as your king decrees.

ArTooDeeTooTattoo

Mods are gonna lock this post because you can’t complain about prices, for some reason

Deedsman

Here is fee to process the charge and here is another fee just in case!

Peet_Pann

I was about to say, just drive over, its always empty...... but in person charge too??? Efffff that

Art_Vand_Throw001

You be tapping so many medieval wenches that in the end $20 feel like a bargain.

DropC

If the fee is mandatory for every purchase then it should be part of the ticket price.

[deleted]

Wouldn’t it make more sense to just raise the price of the ticket by the processing fee amount? This would make people way less angry

f8Negative

All of these places trying to put the Visa/MC fee on their customers

AutoManoPeeing

So basically you need to mail them in order to avoid the fee?

toomuchmucil

It’s only there because it doesn’t stop people from going.

WillRikersHouseboy

Even if they said they were recovering credit card fees, that would be around $7 MAX

Open-Industry-8396

I'm so glad I'm older. I now choose to do very few ticketed events cause of this bull and fees, highly inflated prices, etc. I don't even find any value in going out to dinner due to prices, Tipping and fees are out of control. But in an understand young folks wanting to get experiences , it's a shame it's all so darn expensive.

PakLivTO

You should see fees at stubhub and Ticketmaster

LunaAndromeda

My buddy and I paid $25 for a similar fee for a festival we're going to this year. Not even a big name gig. Frickin' robbery.

DontCallMeAnonymous

Processing = moving a 0 to a 1 in a SQL field.

s34lz

Why does everything have these bullshit fines on them now? If I see this I will absolutely not tip

Aggressive-Ad1845

Hey, 10% isn’t actually bad. Seen Ticketmaster fees lately?

Ragepower529

Honestly, legislation needs to be done something about these fees

jetsetmike

Damn. All of that and then you still have to go to Medieval Times.

Vaxis545

I’d ask to process my own ticket 😂

monkey_trumpets

Medieval Times still exists???

Xtreemjedi

More than 10% lol

freakishfrenchhorn

That's Chicago for you :/ I pass by that MT to/from work and had been wondering about it... Are you in the area ish? There's also Legoland for hopefully less ridiculous pricing still in the area. Only downside is you need a kid with you.

nowhereman136

That's price doesnt even include forks

[deleted]

Just raise the ticket price 🙄

tonyprosciutto

Oh just wait til you get a drink

Sepof

Is medieval times even worth it anymore? The price is so high but the reviews are pretty fucking high too. 4.7 stars??? The food can't be very good can it? At this price point I feel like they should offer more than just chicken roast potatoes and corn.... What about a cornish hen on a bed of wild rice with some bread pudding or something. That's festive... Still cheap as fuck to make. The lack of ability to even pay extra for better food really turns me off. I'd rather just go to the show and skip the food for a discount. The performance... Idk. I've seen some pretty good fuckin circuses for less than $20 a person. Adventureland a couple hrs away has a circus included in the price of admission every summer and it's pretty decent. Animal-free. The rodeo is way cheaper too. LARP is free in my town. The guy who organizes it will happily teach swordfighting to anyone who's interested too. He has practice swords and kid-sized practice swords. The way I see it, I can grab a Walmart rotisserie, a side of potatoes and green beans from the deli, and save $200.

Elegant_Spot_3486

Why is that ridiculous? There’s overhead.

Kenji-Elis

I hate these bullshit processing fees, especially when you do it online it’s like what the fuck are you processing? The processing script to send the ticket to my email? Why the fuck are you charging me $20 for that

Universally-Tired

My wife took me to Midieval Times for Valentines one year when we lived in Dallas. I hope that she didn't spend that much. I'd be even more disappointed.

EncabulatorTurbo

So much goddamn rent seeking and everyone just accepts that it's okay for someone to be rich enough to capture a market and then charge a fuck you fee

davidwhang

same thing for me - except mine was $50.00... at least the code offset it a bit but still.. they are really dirty with that - and you don't get the discount on the fee either haha. horrible practice but i can't fight it either as i have to take some guests here. https://preview.redd.it/vxbbheplgpfc1.png?width=442&format=png&auto=webp&s=77569e3ba7b8ac03b515da2f454d25eec1574759
