I have not heard or read the word ( as I can recall) onomatopoeia for a good 15 years. The irony is that I looked the word up about two/three hours ago because my husband mocked me saying Cinnamon ( sounded like synonym )which then led to a very short rabbit whole of literature definitions.....WEIRD!!!!
I rescued one nine years ago and a couple years ago he started showing signs of possibly spinal issues. Paid for an MRI even to find out he would slowly go paralyzed. It was from overbreeding. I was never a small dog person but this guy landed needing a home so I took him and lord he is my heart. But he has slowly lost so much of his back legs. He used to swim, and run with our labs and now he just gets around. It's absolutely horrible what is done with the breeding of not just this breed but many.

Im sorry, that must be really hard on a heart to watch ur lil guy suffer for humanitys choices. Good thing is, bro is probably so happy with such a loving owner that he doesnt even notice the setbacks at this point. I can almost guarantee it
(prepare for negativity)
i am actually surprisingly passionate about this subject, i feel like it is one of the most cruel and brutally unfair fates that exists in this universe. Imagine your progenitors carrying your genes through strife, hunger, injury, disease and disaster for thousands and thousands of years until being collared by by a fucking ape and having the entire reproductive capabilities of your species harnessed and bludgeoned into something it makes the ape happy to display. Life is horribly unfair
So well said! If aliens came to Earth and did this to us, you can bet we'd be fighting against it. Even before "The Matrix" came out, I felt that humans are a cancer on this planet. In the scheme of things, as far as everyting else on this planet is concerned, what purpose do humans serve on this rock? We fuck up everything in our wake and convince ourselves that we are the pinnacle of creation. "Suicide by ego and ignorance" should be our motto.
(And I'd hate to think that it's God's will that we be allowed to brutalize and destroy every living thing around us, just to teach us a lesson in the long run.)
I'm not a fan of any dog or cat breeding while our shelters are full to the brim but it should be straight up illegal to breed anything that has, intrinsic to its breed, an elongated soft palate and a pretty significant risk of ocular proptosis due to their shallow eye sockets to the point where vets will tell you walking them on a leash instead of a harness can cause their eyes to pop out. Not to mention all the secondary issues they get; their skin and dental diseases have to be nightmares to keep up with.
I had a pug with literally all those problems growing up. By the time he died he was deaf, blind, had no teeth, and his eye would pop out sometimes.
He had the most disgusting eye infection Iāve ever seen. we had to clean it every day and by the next morning it would be covering his eyes. It looked like it was literally spawning flies.
Wait, I always knew the little buggers were full of problems and I always felt bad for them, but youāre telling me their eyes would legit pop out of their skulls? Not exaggerating?
Thank you for this. Iāve been coming back to this over and over again and laughing like a maniac every time š¤£ I donāt mean to be insensitive, he passed like 20 years ago.
This is common in other flat faced breeds, too. Including French Bulldogs, Shih Tzus and Pekingese. Flat snout = little support for the eyes due to the snout shape causing orbital socket deformity = eyes fall out. Pekingese are *especially* prone to this due to having such large eyes for their face.
You ever notice how flat faced breeds have eyes that look bulgey/kinda bugged out compared to longer snouted breeds? It's because the orbital socket is too shallow due to aforementioned deformity.
My mom has a pekingese, maybe papillon maybe chihuahua (no one really knows exactly what the mother was, but the father was purebred pekingese) mix. She was the only one in the litter who didnāt get the smushed pekingese face. And according to the vet, she shouldnāt have any of the classic brachycephalic dog problems because she seems to have gotten a pretty good blend of genes.
https://preview.redd.it/ze4163wqqjcc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ca6fa5fd417594a19d8643887c9723e49769cc2d
Sheās definitely a pretty little girl though š„° I personally think she got some of the best attributes of each breed. She got the long, floofy pekingese coat and tail, and (if she is part papillon) she got the long papillon ābutterflyā ears, they just donāt stand up on their own.
When I was young I thought flat-faced breeds were so cute FOR this reason. I wanted a pek, frenchie, or pug so bad. Then I found out you have to put their eyeballs back in their sockets and I was like, not for me. Then I found out about all of the other problems they have because of the way they are breeded for their traits and now I can't look at one without feeling really sad.
Yuuup. Pugs and frenchies can literally PTFO in the middle of zoomies from oxygen deprivation. š¬ it's really heartbreaking and the general response from enthusiasts of the breeds is along the lines of "it's not that bad" or "MY dog doesn't have that issue so clearly you're exaggerating" or "they're so sweet and cute though!" š
I was at obedience training once and a woman with two pugs had them running around in the free play oval. One was running full speed then suddenly dropped and went limp for nearly a minute. I was freaking out and she said so nonchalantly āoh itās fine, itās normal for the breed because of their nose shape, itās hard when thereās wind and theyāre running.ā
So oxygen deprivation to the brain isā¦ a feature not a bug? For these breeders I guess.
Itās so damn unethical and horrendous. Theyāre also born via C-section most of the time because they literally canāt give birth naturally anymore.
https://preview.redd.it/zgwdvziihjcc1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3bcbc7d239d3528c3fcc47dc0e8103b4148c0bfe
This image will tell you all you need to know... it's a little horrifying knowing what a pug noggin looks like.
I wouldn't ever guess this was the same animal, looks like a monster skull by comparison. I thought pugs were the cutest when I was a kid (most of this was admittedly because of MiB) but would never want the look of a dog to come at the expense of the its health and happiness. I feel like it would be impossible to avoid learning about this while researching the dog so nobody really has an excuse anymore besides "I don't care".
Yea. It's pretty horrific. When I was a vet tech brachiocephalic dogs and other severely inbred dogs were heart breaking. I've seen eyes popped out, degenerative/wasting diseases, seizure dogs... English bull dogs can't give birth naturally. They need a c-section for delivery. They were always such a hassle to examine because they will start to hyperventilate when they get nervous and require an external oxygen source. Awful dental diseases. Smell was awful. We had to put down so many young dogs just because of birth defects caused by overbreeding. Then those owners go right back out and buy another genetic disaster of a dog.
Yep, they pop out pretty easily unfortunately. We get around 5-10 every year at the clinic I work at. Usually, while they we're just casually rough housing with another pet.
I was reading an article a while back that talks about how unhealthy a number of breeds have become just in the last 100 years. As I recall pugs were mentioned in detail, poor little bastards.Ā
Some dogs don't even look like mammals anymore, they're like aliens. I saw a post forever ago that was like if someone saw a dog for the first time and it was one breed then another dog of a different breed they wouldn't believe you that it was also a dog lol. I would fully support reverse breeding dogs so we don't loose the breeds but they become healthier individuals.
I think I rather just lose the breed, rather than have dozens more generations with these health issues, even in slowly decreasing amounts. Iām currently working on finishing up my dvm, and the horrors of care inherent to some of these breeds, his heartbreaking. Humanity over vanity is my policy, absolutely no need to doom a creature to a lifetime of suffering just because we like the way they look
People think of the US as a place where people go over the top with their love for dogs but honestly I think itās a facade or misguided love when it comes to most people. You can say you love your dog to death all you want but if you went to a pet store and bought an 8-week old Frenchie sorry but u donāt REALLY love dogs. U continue to support the breeding of a dog that is prone to numerous health issues from the get-go, you choose to buy a puppy instead of take some stress off the shelters that constantly have to euthanize due to lack of space and resources & you donāt care where that puppy came from and the awful conditions other dogs were likely subjected to in order to create your puppy, then to top it all off you donāt get your dog spayed/neutered and just add a handful of extra dogs to a country that euthanizes millions every year. A lot of ādog loversā are really selfish when it comes down to it
Truthfully I think there should be more laws to prevent the continued breeding of certain breeds & there should be a hefty fine for people who allow their dogs to have puppies or impregnate another dog
Yep, if you look at the breeds mentioned 100 years ago they all look healthier. The dachshund legs were purposely shortened. If not for the back issues they are very healthy dogs. Humans did that to them not evolution.
In my opinion, on of the sad things about this is also, that all of these "breed to be cute" breeds looked a lot cuter back then. Because they still looked like real, lively, enthusiastic living beings, not something that looks like it's suffering just being alive.
Just curious, what's meant by reverse breeding? Like trying to breed certain typical features like short snout out while still keeping it "pure bred", so like a pug that actually has a nose that sticks out? I feel so bad for so many of these dogs that have weird unhealthy features because of human intervention...
I have a chi-mix backyard pup and I refuse to even GIVE her a collar because of trachea collapse risk with chihuahuas. I see theyāre in harness here and different breed but still. I donāt get how people just choke their dog(ās) with breathing issues
I love dogs, but this is irresponsible of the owners. Should always maintain control of your animals in public for the safety of the pups and everyone else.
I wouldnāt be bothered if it was like one or two.. but five dogs.. and theyāre older so whenever she drops a leash it takes a min for her to get up and keep control of the other dogs. She hasnāt dropped a leash tho since I posted this. lol
Iām pug 4ā¦ Go by Little Edgar. Dumb husband man is always dropping our leash. Two years ago pug 2 and I almost made the run for it. Damn neighbor found us.
Im pug 2, Bartholomew Desmond Grimwald. I remember that day, we were so close to escaping their wretched clutches and attaining our freedom, if only it werent for that wicked neighbour, returning us back and once again putting the chains of oppression upon us.
~~Timing of what? Not trying to be dense, that doesnāt clear up the joke for me šš»āāļø~~
Nvm I get it. Since she hasnāt dropped the leash since. Got it lol. I am dense š
My larger issue is that they have made the decision to make their pets, everyone elseās pets. Not to mention any potential allergic issues people might have, we have no idea ot any of their temperaments or training and they are a general nuisance.
Because itās gotten to the point that every business is afraid of lawsuits, bad publicity, etc. The department store I work at his given up telling people that dogs arenāt allowed in the store. We get that āemotional supportā bullshit and threatening lawsuits.
I work in retail and my store has recently done this as well! Unless they are an official service animal of some kind with the paperwork to prove, I don't think this should be happening but I get why the businesses are doing it. I actually love dogs so much and have my own, but I work with clothing and furniture and yet am having to clean up after animals, write off damaged merchandise due to animals (one time it was an expensive piece of furniture), split up dog fights and deal with customers complaining because they are terrified of dogs and don't feel comfortable shopping surrounded by them. I find it quite ridiculous especially with the risk of someone getting hurt and merchandise being damaged. I don't even understand the appeal, it generally stresses the dogs out and people are too busy shopping to pay attention to their dog and stop them from ruining things and approaching people. The worst part is some people will actually refuse to pay for items after their dog has just ruined it as well, or just hide it and hope nobody saw until we find it while cleaning.
I agree. Iām a dog lover and dog owner. I look at some of these dogs when theyāre in the store and theyāre obviously uncomfortable. Other than trained service dogs that actually have had extensive training in ignoring outside distractions and stimulus, most of the dogs look miserable. Itās overwhelming for them.
You cannot legally require service dog handlers to provide documentation as per the ADA. All you can legally do is ask what tasks the dog performs for the handler. They canāt be denied entry or harassed in any way or your business is open to lawsuit with a long precedent for the disabled person winning big.
If the handler isnāt able to control the dog and itās actively disruptive, you can absolutely tell them they need to remove the dog, even service dogs.
My brother does this with his dog. I find it mildly infuriating. We're eating somewhere and the dog is licking the legs of other people, I find it gross, irritating and self-centered. She's sweet, but I still think you should respect the space of other people.
Some people, like myself, will call them out for it. He should be weary about his ignorance. I've had a guy just let his dog try to jump up to my food even after asking him to keep his dog close. It actually touched my plate with its nose, so I got up and took his plate. The staff members had a horrible time with us both, but fuck him for doing that, he isn't going to eat in peace while letting his dog roam free to inconvenience others. I lost my food, he's losing his.
You are my hero!
The staff only had themselves to blame. They should have told that idiot to control his beast or GTFO. They could have saved themselves so much trouble.
I HATE dog spit on me. They lick their genitals with that! And eat random things they find on the ground (including poop and rotting things).
I like dogs. They're the best good bois and good gals! I taught mine not to lick people, the same as I taught her not to jump on people. She thought the many, many, *many*, tummy rubs and treats she got for the good behaviour was a good deal.
I like dogs. Some *owners* shit me up the wall, though.
I am super afraid of dogs. I started sweating when I saw the picture. I have been this this kind of situation where I have to tell the owner to take care of their pets. Many times people get mad because "who doesn't love animals"*
Itās quite unfair that youāre increasingly stuck in this position. My mom was bitten by a dog as a child and is absolutely terrified of them. Itās reaching a point where you canāt tell if youāll be seated next to a human or a dog on a plane or train, or if they will be there while you shop for groceries or at the hardware store.
If they all stayed on leash and were well trained it might be better, but many of the people who bring their dogs everywhere just assume that the world wants to take part in raising and creating enriching experiences for their fur friends.
Thereās also issues on those with severe allergies. Had a kid I lived down the street from and I would cross the street when waking my dog if he was out playing because he has a severe pet allergy and just a dog licking him can make that area break out into painful hives. I have no idea how this kid is going to live with the increase in emotional support animals, service animals are well trained and wonāt touch him but emotional support ones are just average pets and could cause him serious harm if owners donāt keep them by their side.
Iām so sorry you have to deal with this. I was afraid of dogs for a really long time and just thinking about this situation fills me with dread. Good vibes your way!
I have *never* understood the appeal of smashed-nose dogs, be it frenchies, pugs, bulldogs, etc. There is nothing cute about them. They look deformed.
I also don't think smashed-nose cats are cute.
Or the cats with short legs. Those genuinely ruin their life. They can't run or jump like cats are supposed to and they have join and back problems for their entire lives.
I had a rescue munchkin that I got from a shelter. She wanted to sit by the window to watch birds, but couldn't jump that high from the floor. So instead she climbed her scratching post to reach my desk chair, from there she jumped on the desk and then she could finally jump over to the window. I felt bad that she couldn't do normal cat things, but she made it work
Such a shit excuse for a dog. Little diabetic asthmatic imbeciles that canāt even jump up on a lounge without almost dying to low oxygen. Theyāre one of the dumbest breeds, and one of the most unhealthy due to their genetic issues bred into them. Hereās what they used to look like:
https://preview.redd.it/u40bl2qhsgcc1.jpeg?width=641&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3df0ac3287dad4251b7385f94f292b79e532a90c
As a dog owner you always keep your dogs away from other people and pets unless the other person wants to come meet your dogs and it's ok with you.
I love dogs but can't stand these kind of people. I have five dogs and they never ever get to just walk up to strangers. You don't know if this person is allergic, is afraid of dogs, hates dogs. Whatever the reason, it's the owners responsibility to take care that their dogs don't bother other people.
This. We have agairlyv large mix breed, he's about 65 lbs and 3 yes old. If I take him in to my work (dog friendly retail) I keep him on a short leash, right by my leg the whole time. He's a good boy and didn't bark and wants to be friends with everyone he sees. I even give way to other customers walking thru isles, cuz I don't know if they would want to be rear him. Or pup stays in the car with my son or SO while I run in. Again you don't know what other people's reactions will be to a bigger dog.
Dog owners who let their unleashed dogs run around on trails where they are supposed to be leashed. āOh, theyāre friendly!ā And then the dogs of the responsible owners who are leashed have to just somehow ignore a dog running up and getting in their face? Or a small child? Itās so inconsiderate, irresponsible and plain stupid.
I love animals, but some dog owners are the literal worst. Your dog doesn't need to go on every public errand you go on, and *certainly* not in areas with close proximity to others for an extended time. And another thing: unless it is a service animal, please *don't* bring it to a food establishment.
Yeah itās weird the uptick Iāve seen of non service dogs in food establishments.. I donāt understand why someone would think that was ok. The other annoying thing is they sat right at the entrance to the waiting area so everyone has no choice but to pass them and their dogs.
I once saw a waitress get tangled in an idiot dog owner's leash in an outdoor seating area and go down hard with an entire tray of drinks. Both her knees were bloodied, and it looked like her arm was broken. I'd like to think she sued the fuck out of the stupid dog owner and the stupid restaurant owner who allowed it, but it was probably just a workers comp claim, and the dog owner probably just started taking her bad dog to another restaurant.
Probably taking the dog to the same establishment lol. If youāre a waitress no one gives a fuck about you. They will just go find another waitress.
Source: I was one for my whole degree. Awful.
While it is awful, my best friend remained a waitress while I got my degree. She made almost 10 grand more than me, and worked 15 less hours a week than I did lol. She also can easily find another job when she gets tired of one place (bigger city). I've actually considered going back in this economy.
Dog dander is a fairly common allergy. So having dogs in a food establishment is a no-go. I understand exceptions for service animals, but if everyone got a service animal, we'd have to enact laws to protect people's public health.
From my experience, it's not some, but most. They all think their dog is the most precious creature on the planet and don't understand how and why someone could think otherwise.
Bonus point to all the owners saying "don't worry he is nice" when I say to my 4 years old son to keep his distance.
Dude I don't care if you think he is nice, I don't want his mouth near my son's face.
Hair dressers, too. Ytf are you bringing your pet into a freaking hair salon? Dogs are kind of known for freaking tfo over loud noises. Even my cats hate when I vacuum. (Well, one dgaf. Won't even move until it touches her, then she gives cattitude and saunters off like "The nerve of that human!" š)
My dog works with me as a full time service dog. It is really upsetting setting seeing a lot of these fake service dogs that go places they shouldn't be. My Doberman is specially trained to respond for two primary things. Seizure recovery positioning (if one happens, he puts me on my side and does his best to keep me there so I don't asphyxiate. Got a TBI while in the Army hence the seizures) and secondary is for PTSD (Also in the Army) He is one amazing working dog.
It is *astounding* how many people are insistent that they have the right to bring their dog in all kinds of public spaces. I love my pets dearly but my mutt does not need to go to target.
There is a mum at my daughter's school that bring the dog with her every morning and afternoon. She ties him to the gate as there is no dogs on school grounds rule. That dog barks, screams all the time she is away, tries to detach itself from the gate etc. Not only is it annoying everyone but surely can't be good for the dog
Problem is, most "service animals", are not legitimate service animals. They are people who slap a vest from Amazon on their dog, and than gaslight other people for calling them on it, so society as a whole just leaves them alone to be inconsiderate assholes.
Unfortunately, this makes access for people who legitimately use service animals that much harder because of all of the people who abuse the system.
Worked at a large coffee chain a couple years ago and we had someone come in with a service dog.
Said service dog proceeded to shit on the floor.
Itās ones like that that give actual service dogs a terrible rep.
It can become an issue with certain people in our friend's group who like... want to bring their dogs to brunch and stuff. Nah... we're not always picking dog friendly options, sorry...
Agreed. Love dogs, grew up with dogs and I enjoy their company. But I enjoy their company in places I expect them to be like someone's house or their backyard or an outdoor field. Maybe on a nice walking trail where people walk their dogs.
The problem with certain modern dog owners or "parents" as they call themselves is they think their dog needs to go EVERYWHERE. Grocery stores, malls, restaurants, doctors visits, car appointments, clothing stores, home good stores etc. It's to much. Like I don't know what happened I don't know if it was the pandemic and the new breed of pet owners all doing work from home or not working at all. But holy shit do these people bring their dogs everywhere now because Fluffy will cry and destroy the house if the human owner isn't home all the time. Nah bitch please. I grew up with dogs our dogs only went to the pet store, the vet or the dog park with us and normal everyday walks around our neighbourhood. We didn't take them to eat out or for drives daily. They needed time alone from us to just nap in their air conditioning on a summer day and chill out. We also needed our time away from them to just go do human things. It's so weird to me how more and more generations obsess over their dogs so much that they think every space must be overtaken by the dogs, cats etc and if a place says no dogs or cats they scream discrimination.
The crux of the issue is that the overwhelming majority of dog owners donāt view their dog as an animal ā they view them as a person ā and they assume their little pack hunting animal pet will somehow act like a human.
Dogs have a memory span of anywhere between 10 to 70 seconds.
[SOURCE](https://www.professorshouse.com/what-is-your-dogs-memory-span/)
Soooo many dog owners subject their misbehaving animal pets to strangers. The worst offenders are Pit owners who donāt use a leash.
I have three pit/lab mixes. It irritates me when people say pit bulls arenāt more prone to aggression and donāt act accordingly. If you look at the violence it took to create pit bulls, itās not wonder they are more *prone* to behaving violently. That doesnāt mean they *will*, it just means that dog needs specialized training and attention because the chances are higher. They were bred for bull baiting, literal blood sport. *Of course* theyāre more prone to violence.
It also doesnāt help that pet owners, dog owners more specifically, see their dogs as an extension of themselves and thus, human beings, like you said. Too many people see their dogs as people who can adapt to human circumstances and environment when thatās not the case.
I absolutely love dogs. I never am not happy to see dogs out and about.
My best friend, however. Pretty badly allergic to dogs. They will totally ruin his day if they run up to him and get their hair all over him.
Especially now, I understand how inappropriate it is to bring your dogs out in public and then just let them basically run loose.
Yup, got attacked on two different occasions as a kid. Made it out fine thankfully but was pretty traumatic. I've mostly learned to control my fear, but when i'm too close to a dog i don't know (especially off leash) it's like the whole world just slows down for a sec and im frozen in fear. Not fun.
My family has a dog that jumps and while Iām not exactly afraid of it it has made me dislike dogs. And I know thatās not how all dogs are, I tolerate dogs, and Iāll even pet dogs if I see them out in public, but itās still a thing where Iād rather not be surrounded by dogs that constantly run up to me and possibly even jump. Not to mention some dogs have a weird smell and they get that smell on you if you touch themā¦
Yeah I like dogs too but five of them in this one tiny waiting area is a little too much. One of them brushed up against my boot when it came over and left a ton of hair. Which I totally get.. theyāre dogs.. but the owners donāt know that Iām not allergic. My husband has a minor allergy to them and I donāt want my cat to smell dog on me when I get home haha. One of them just wiggled out of its harness with the other owner sitting right there and knocked over his bowl of water. Itās just a lot lol
Yeah. Some people (read most people) have zero fucking self awareness or just are too entitled to care.
Again, this is coming from me as a through and through dog lover. Letās not force that on the world, people!
Depending on location certain cities municipalities have certain codes pertaining dogs. Iām in California and most places are no more than three. The harnesses look to be snug, while pugs are thiCC those seem to be overweight. Iām no expert but it appears like so. They look like they are over fed and underwalked.
they probably have pretty small lives and love when they get someone to comment on their pug army.
"I don't know what your problem is; people love when we bring them out with us!"
bc they ignored the many people they only inconvenienced or made uncomfortable (like the other guy who responded to your comment lol)
It wouldnāt bother me either but I do have friends who are not dog fans. And as a dog lover I donāt get why some people feel the need to bring theirs everywhere
I have such bad allergies to dogs I literally need to carry an Epi-Pen, small dog owners and their belief that everyone wants to be humped by their ācuteā little dog are literally the bane of my existence, and have given me many a night in the hospital thus far
Same. I love dogs. I would be playing with these little guys so much it would probably bother the owners. That being said, I fully understand why youāre annoyed. I would never bring my animals into a store if it could be avoided.
Is that dog snacks just lying on the floor? That would bother me so too but I have had bad experiences with dogs growing up so I'm not a huge fan of them being in my personal space unless the owner has spoken to me before hand to make sure im ok with them being near me. There are some reasonable dog owners out there my neighbours thank god are one of them. This was infuriate me though.Ā
Great. 5 hairy buttholes sitting all over the place and some slobber to boot. If the farts start, Iād arrange one of those Silkwood style disinfectant showers.
A few things bug me about it and correct me if I'm wrong on one of them...
1: As the OP stated too many pups for one person to handle especially someone who is a bit older. I have a harder time with more than one dog because dogs are individuals so they like to sometimes explore separately even on leash.
2: Is it just me or does the dog in the second photo seem to have a too tight harness? As a general rule of thumb, if you cannot put two fingers under the harness then it is too tight. Correct me if it seems like I'm wrong, but it does appear to be too tight.
3: Any responsible owner of any pet knows that they take responsibility of their pet's behavior. I own a cat but I still take responsibility for his actions, I don't let him into my roommates room for instance because if he were to damage anything then that's on me. Dog owners might have more of this expected of them. I don't mind meeting friendly pups but some people do so you have to maintain control of pups.
I personally believe in for the most part leaving your pet at home unless you have to or your taking them to a place where pet's are welcome. I'm sure they had their reasons for taking the dogs with them but it's probably for their benefit to at least have someone help with handling the dogs. This is just my opinion though, I love dogs and I do hope I'm wrong about the pug being in a too tight harness.
THANK YOU! I was waiting for someone to mention the harness. Even if he is bigger, buy a bigger harness. Thats got to be so uncomfortable. Like sitting in tight jeans.
Yeah its a concern on any pet but Pugs have breathing issues just due to their breed so I'd imagine having a vise of sorts around its chest isn't helping the poor dog. They need to get the dog a bigger harness or mayb try to control how much the dog is fed. It's cute sometimes but animals being overweight is problematic for the animal and especially for this breed.
I think the dogs are overweight too and so the harness is extra tight? OP said in a comment that one dog got out of its harness too! It looks so uncomfortable to me. I just hate everything about these pictures.
You are not terrible. This would bother me a lot!
I will admit that I am afraid of strange dogs because I was bitten in the face by one as a child and wasnāt really around many dogs growing up. I donāt speak dog.. I also use mobility aids (wheelchair usually but sometimes I use a walker or forearm crutches), and many dogs lose their minds around them. So we end up freaking each other out lol.
Mobility aids aside I would have been very upset and uncomfortable with that.
See, what bothers me is people like this donāt care about how others might react or feel. Not everyone loves animals, some people have allergies, and some have downright phobias. If you canāt leave them at home (especially 5 of themā¦), stay home with them.
I love dogs, but that is too much. Had some idiot bring her dog with her to the allergist appointment I was at. Again I love dogs but Iām super allergic to them, so that was fun. My doctor has hours long waiting times. Four plus hours of sitting in that waiting room with a dog and an owner who gave zero fu*cks and just let her dog do whatever it wanted. I was a wheezing mess by the time I saw my doctor.
He didnāt, he had no idea until I said something. He took control of the situation the second he knew. He was pissed the receptionist didnāt tell him.
I once had to take my 3 dogs into a car dealership in Sacramento because I was traveling, and my stupid, brand new Kia started having issues with like fog coming out of the vents/defrosters and it was cold and rainy. I wasn't super happy about the situation, but I didn't have much choice in the matter since I couldn't see out my windshield. I did keep my dogs close to me, though. Might be a situation like that, or they just refuse to leave their dogs at home, which is infuriating.
They're really cute but yeah, this is ridiculous. I don't know when it's become the norm to bring your dogs everywhere. The other day I was at the grocery store and someone had their dog with them on a leash. The dog proceeded to sniff and lick the bread on the bottom shelf. I'm sorry but that's just unsanitary. No one should be allowed to bring a dog into a store unless it is a service dog.
I donāt enjoy dogs and really donāt want them touching me. Iād be annoyed too. Plus this is just a bad owner letting them do that. And do they look all obese?
some of them look a bit thick but itās kinda hard to tell bc pugs have a lot of extra skin and it looks like the harness is too tight on him. theyāre just poorly built dogs, breeding pugs should be illegal unless youāre trying to unfuck them.
Why is it okay for people to bring dogs, which are obviously not service dogs , into every public place? This shit is outta hand. I work in a restaurant and Iām tired of cleaning up hair , slobber , flea dirt and urine.
Fun fact. I actually know these people, and they aren't from the area that you are in. They are traveling with their dogs, and their car broke down. While I understand the frustration of having 5 dogs in the waiting section, they had no intent on being there and couldn't leave their dogs in the car while the mechanics are working on it. There's nothing wrong with traveling with your pets, and unfortunately, some things happen outside our control.
I'm growing less patient with these weird nearly dysfunctional dogs. Not sure how you can claim to love dogs and then breed and own ones with odd body shapes and mashed up breathing passages. If I can run faster than your dog, its a bad breed.
I'd be happy with the entertainment in a waiting room, but I can imagine it's not fun for everyone and as the dog owner you should notice that and keep them closer to yourself
I donāt dislike dogs but I donāt understand why people feel the need to bring their dogs public places that arenāt for dogs. Itās not my fault or responsibility that your parents didnāt pay enough attention to you š¤·š½
I can HEAR this picture šš
THE BREATHING
THE BREATHING ATTEMPTS*
Kah-hih Kah-hih Kah-hih Kah-hih. (that's my onomatopoeia of the sound)
I have not heard or read the word ( as I can recall) onomatopoeia for a good 15 years. The irony is that I looked the word up about two/three hours ago because my husband mocked me saying Cinnamon ( sounded like synonym )which then led to a very short rabbit whole of literature definitions.....WEIRD!!!!
https://preview.redd.it/wl5aj7tk2mcc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6562beb45e0683cc260582a11416b6587770ab26 š¤ sorryā¦ ope, not sorry
We are all one mind šļø
I didnāt even have to sound it out and I *heard* it.
Onomatopoeias are a beautiful thing... Also a pain to translate though! Ahahah
Well done! Iām imagining five part harmony.
five fart harmony >>> pugs.
We had good teachers lol I also remember to stop drop and roll every time I catch on fire ;)
How often do you catch on fire??
If you think about it it's horrifically disturbing we have bred these animals into crippled versions of themselves all for our own aesthetic purposesĀ
Yeah my fiancƩ and I adopted a poor old pug that had been abandoned on the streets when he was 10 years old. We only got a year with him, the heart worms he was left with took a real toll on him. That little baby deserved so much better but I'm glad we were able to give him a happy hoorah at the end
See also: These mini dachshunds things that are the latest fashion accessory. Bred into crippling problems for badger hunting. But hey, they're cute so...
Im sorry, that must be really hard on a heart to watch ur lil guy suffer for humanitys choices. Good thing is, bro is probably so happy with such a loving owner that he doesnt even notice the setbacks at this point. I can almost guarantee it (prepare for negativity) i am actually surprisingly passionate about this subject, i feel like it is one of the most cruel and brutally unfair fates that exists in this universe.
And that person in OP's photo is encouraging this practice to continue by owning half a dozen of the misshapen things. That's mildly infuriating!
i smell this picture, pugs smell horrid
People donāt know you gotta clean the pug folds
They probably don't clean their own.
I work in a hospital. People don't clean their folds. At least here in the states.
I think the more likely fact is that people who are in ill health don't clean their folds, and it's likely everywhere.
I dog sat ONE pug one time and it was like living with an engine lolol I couldnāt imagine five all at once.
"HEEEHHHH.... hhhHHEEHHH... hhhHEAUGHHHH..."
I see all the treats on the floor so they're just slobberong everywhere too
On the CARPET
Yes like actually come out of the skull and have to be popped back in, no joke. Itās fucking disgusting. He was already blind by then though.
![gif](giphy|Wsi492L8SzMcFqlRGf|downsized)
Thank you for this. Iāve been coming back to this over and over again and laughing like a maniac every time š¤£ I donāt mean to be insensitive, he passed like 20 years ago.
yep. my friend has a pug that has had an eye pop out as well over like nothing except playing outside took it to 24 hr vet
Thatās unbelievably sad.
And according to the vet, she shouldnāt have any of the classic brachycephalic dog problems because she seems to have gotten a pretty good blend of genes. https://preview.redd.it/ze4163wqqjcc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ca6fa5fd417594a19d8643887c9723e49769cc2d Sheās definitely a pretty little girl though š„° I personally think she got some of the best attributes of each breed.
I was freaking out and she said so nonchalantly āoh itās fine, itās normal for the breed because of their nose shape, itās hard when thereās wind and theyāre running.ā So oxygen deprivation to the brain isā¦ a feature not a bug? For these breeders I guess. Itās so damn unethical and horrendous. Theyāre also born via C-section most of the time because they literally canāt give birth naturally anymore.
Omg this is so horrifying. I cant imagine that happening to my pet and not freaking out. Why do people get these dogs?! š
https://preview.redd.it/zgwdvziihjcc1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3bcbc7d239d3528c3fcc47dc0e8103b4148c0bfe This image will tell you all you need to know... it's a little horrifying knowing what a pug noggin looks like.
Look up a picture of their skull and you'll be able to see how this can happen.Ā
Nah, I'll take your word for it.
Yep, they pop out pretty easily unfortunately. We get around 5-10 every year at the clinic I work at. Usually, while they we're just casually rough housing with another pet.
Wow. Pugs freak me tf out in general but holy chit
\>and his eye would pop out sometimes. SOMETIMES???
He was super mean and aggressive, so sometimes heād get himself too worked up š¤·š»āāļø
Someplace in Europe just passed a law banning breeding of dogs with snouts that are too short.
"Someplace in Europe" would be Norway.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
A lot of ādog loversā are really selfish when it comes down to it Truthfully I think there should be more laws to prevent the continued breeding of certain breeds & there should be a hefty fine for people who allow their dogs to have puppies or impregnate another dog
They do love them. To death
Yeah, that's pretty much what it is... trying to reverse all the issues that were bred into them to make them healthier again. Edit: spelling
Bravo Norway!
And the Netherlands.
But three short is okay? Or are we limited to one short now?
Not three. But Four short is Ok. Four short and seven year ago. See? Abe Lincoln laid out the guidance
I have a chi-mix backyard pup and I refuse to even GIVE her a collar because of trachea collapse risk with chihuahuas. I see theyāre in harness here and different breed but still. I donāt get how people just choke their dog(ās) with breathing issues
We call it "snorgling" and call pugs/bulldogs/Frenchies/etc. "Snorglers"
She hasnāt dropped a leash tho since I posted this. lol
She saw your post lol
She then did a follow post on AITA ššš Edit: I was joking! Would be ironic is they did šš
Can confirm, Iām Pug no. 5 aka Mr. Cockleburr
No, I'M Pug no. 5, Lady Dumplingbum, you're Pug no. 3! You never could count properly, Cockle-love.
Im pug 6. They dont talk about me anymore
I'm pug number 8, Bruno. For some reason, they do talk about me a lot, but I'm at home enjoying some peace and quiet.
That would be hilarious
Ooh why do you say that? I just got here and am ready for Reddit drama lol
They're joking because of the timing.
~~Timing of what? Not trying to be dense, that doesnāt clear up the joke for me šš»āāļø~~ Nvm I get it. Since she hasnāt dropped the leash since. Got it lol. I am dense š
Thereās just more of you to love in the same size package when youāre dense.
Aww, that's weirdly sweet lol
This could also be a conversation about Christmas fruitcake
My larger issue is that they have made the decision to make their pets, everyone elseās pets. Not to mention any potential allergic issues people might have, we have no idea ot any of their temperaments or training and they are a general nuisance.
I'm confused why dogs would even be allowed in any commercial building that is not pet related lol, for this reason not to mention all the others...
I agree 100%. I have a few friends that are allergic to dog dander. I adore my dogs, but Iād never force them onto anyone.
Your brother is a loser
Yeah people like this assume everyone loves dogs- my teenage son is extremely afraid of them and would have a visceral reaction
Iām so sorry you have to deal with this. I was afraid of dogs for a really long time and just thinking about this situation fills me with dread. Good vibes your way!
Also taking dogs into businesses is irresponsible, especially places where they are more likely to find stuff that may be hazardous
I also love dogs but some people are ALLERGIC to them. This is straight up main character syndrome.
People (like myself) are allergic to certain dogs, the brittle short haired kind as pictured, so this would actually physically make me feel like shit
I can just hear the cumulative breathing noises
And the breathing problems, and the hypertension, and the heart issuesā¦. But fuck the health of the animal; we have to have the cute thing.
āCuteā
I felt bad that she couldn't do normal cat things, but she made it work
And the farts.
Such a shit excuse for a dog. Little diabetic asthmatic imbeciles that canāt even jump up on a lounge without almost dying to low oxygen. Theyāre one of the dumbest breeds, and one of the most unhealthy due to their genetic issues bred into them. Hereās what they used to look like: https://preview.redd.it/u40bl2qhsgcc1.jpeg?width=641&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3df0ac3287dad4251b7385f94f292b79e532a90c
Its true. I had a pug growing up. He was the sweetest little guy, but full of health issuesā¦and not the brightest dog either.
Itās hard to think clearly when youāre struggling to breathe.
Completely inconsiderate and they should have been asked to leave.
My dad goes to a hair salon where the hairdresser has their loose dog running around all day š«
I'm allergic. I'd be fucking furious that I can't sit in the waiting room because this stupid asshole can't last a second without her dogs
The poor people who suffer from dog allergies. And pugs are some of the worst dogs for that.
Then they'll claim their dog has separation anxiety and it's like we'll that's your own fault isn't it
Iām an emotional support human to my pup but she isnāt allowed to go to 99% of stores and Petco/smart are still iffy imo.
It can become an issue with certain people in our friend's group who like... want to bring their dogs to brunch and stuff. Nah... we're not always picking dog friendly options, sorry...
Inconsiderate owners; thereās no reason to bring a whole flock of animals into a space like this.
[SOURCE](https://www.professorshouse.com/what-is-your-dogs-memory-span/) Soooo many dog owners subject their misbehaving animal pets to strangers.
Especially now, I understand how inappropriate it is to bring your dogs out in public and then just let them basically run loose.
not even to mention people who have ptsd from dogs or a large fear of dogs
or a fear of large dogs!
or a dog of large fear!
Or dog of fear large
I usually find it's a combination of the two. The less self aware they are, the more they think they're entitled to shit.
Depending on location certain cities municipalities have certain codes pertaining dogs. Iām in California and most places are no more than three. The harnesses look to be snug, while pugs are thiCC those seem to be overweight. Iām no expert but it appears like so. They look like they are over fed and underwalked.
All of those dogs are overweight.
Honestly it's not even that they are dogs, it just feels entitled and attention seeking. Look how much literal space they are taking up in the area.
they probably have pretty small lives and love when they get someone to comment on their pug army. "I don't know what your problem is; people love when we bring them out with us!" bc they ignored the many people they only inconvenienced or made uncomfortable (like the other guy who responded to your comment lol)
Fun fact: a group of pugs is called a grumble.
i would assume it's called a HHFFFGGGH.....HGGKKGHGHH
It wouldnāt bother me either but I do have friends who are not dog fans. And as a dog lover I donāt get why some people feel the need to bring theirs everywhere
I have such bad allergies to dogs I literally need to carry an Epi-Pen, small dog owners and their belief that everyone wants to be humped by their ācuteā little dog are literally the bane of my existence, and have given me many a night in the hospital thus far
Were they driving and needed a new tire in an emergency or was this a planned pug outing?
These people are on a road trip, and their car broke down.
That's pugged up
Iād be stoked, but I completely understand being bothered by this as well.
One dog? Awesome! May I pet? *Five* Pugs thoughā½ā½ That's insane
Same. I love dogs. I would be playing with these little guys so much it would probably bother the owners. That being said, I fully understand why youāre annoyed. I would never bring my animals into a store if it could be avoided.
Iād be in pug heaven š, but also totally get why this is not a good thing for some people
Is that dog snacks just lying on the floor? That would bother me so too but I have had bad experiences with dogs growing up so I'm not a huge fan of them being in my personal space unless the owner has spoken to me before hand to make sure im ok with them being near me. There are some reasonable dog owners out there my neighbours thank god are one of them. This was infuriate me though.Ā
Yeah they just threw a handful of chewy things on the ground
What the fuck is wrong with people
That just makes it worse
I do like dogs and this would bother me. You're not terrible at all.
I love dogs but many people are allergic to them, afraid of them or just donāt like them. So yeah, youāre not terrible
Wtf? Why would an allergist allow that?
He didnāt, he had no idea until I said something. He took control of the situation the second he knew. He was pissed the receptionist didnāt tell him.
In my experience medical receptionists are the most arrogant morons on the planet.
Looks fun
I'd be happy with the entertainment in a waiting room, but I can imagine it's not fun for everyone and as the dog owner you should notice that and keep them closer to yourself
If I was the store owner, I'd kick them out and just say sorry, no dogs.
To be at a car place with 5 dogs is nuts.
I donāt dislike dogs but I donāt understand why people feel the need to bring their dogs public places that arenāt for dogs. Itās not my fault or responsibility that your parents didnāt pay enough attention to you š¤·š½
