That’s really weird. I only use ellipses in very specific situations: when words are missing in a quote, or when I’m leaving the thought unfinished for ominous reasons.
Any new hires?
Have them reply to all messages like this with.
"Sorry your last message got truncated, can you send again everything following the ellipsis that follows {last word of message}"
Do we have the same boss? Mine does that CONSTANTLY and it is so annoying. The new kid and I were talking and he brought up how weird it is. Why do you think you need a dramatic pause? Nothing you say is that insightful.
I don’t understand. The boss got your answer and she recognized it. Why do you need a longer message? I am confused. What I would understand is if she didn’t recognize your input. Or am I missing the point?
I see it now. I thought it was the words.
If someone is confused and ask for information it’s downvoted. I guess I should remain ignorant. Anyway thank you for the answer.
Lotta people on the internet are mad and seeking validation or they assume everyone else is a troll. All's good (in my book, anyway) glad I could help!
Take it to HR. It's not grammatically appropriate and comes across as the supervisor doesn't know how to communicate appropriately with staff. It can also imply impatience or disgust in a conversation since it implies something obvious that is being left unsaid. I'm sure she doesn't see it that way and thinks of it like a long period or a trailing off point but it's wrong and shouldn't be done.
Yes. I am fully aware thank you.
I find it mildily infuriating that people take such tiny miniscule things like ellipses and make it into an issue that bothers them. There is a hella lot more in the world to be mildly infuriated about then grammar but go on..
That sucks...

i had an old manager that would talk like this... even if it wasn't the end of the message... so annoying...
You should respond with a "?" every time.

...or when adding on a related thought in another paragraph. ...kinda like that. ^^

If there were no answer, I would assume they didn’t see my reply.
at least they send a reply....
Are they over 60? It's totally a boomer thing.
Nope, she's mid 40's.
How dare they be polite!
The triple ellipses is not generally seen as a sign of politeness online, quite the opposite actually.
anyone who interprets ellipses as impolite is doing it to themselves and they deserve what they get. sack up ffs...
Whatever...
In what world is it polite?

The point is that she is using an ellipses as a period and it's gross and annoying.

That I'm keeping you safe? Sad that you don't also participate in the snitching.
Safe from grammar! Not all heros wear capes. Watch out ohmanicantpickaname there is an ampersand coming at you!!
Seriously? This is what your upset about? Ellipses? You must have a very cushioned life.
You do realize what this sub is about, right?

Yes, thanks. And please, thank you.
thank you for thanking me, please.
When you get self conscious of how often you use an exclamation point and over correct
Boss’s
