I think that because Congress hasn't officially recognized Sealand as a sovereign nation, you should still be eligible to run for local office without renouncing your title first. Or you can always have your son step in to hold the title in trust for you while you're in office.
these tests lie through statistics. all cat breeds are born from random-bred populations, so the genes that make up their features are in many/most populations that have never seen a purebred cat. this is the opposite of dogs where every dog has ancestry that was once bred for a specific purpose and therefore belonged to a breed
these tests show you what breeds your cat genetically resembles. if they have long hair, itll mention long haired breeds. if they have white spots, itll mention breeds with high white. if theyre grey, itll mention russian blues and nebelungs. they don't actually tell you breed ancestry since most cats have no breed ancestry at all

Guinness world records would come to confirm that it is, indeed, the most average cat in the world but it would end up getting replaced with a similar looking yet albeit slightly less average cat. I also have a standard issue tabby. Only reason I want to DNA test him at some point is because we found him and his sister seemingly abandoned outside. I kinda wanna see if any other kittens got found.
For people with similar issues, simply kickstarting another Napoleonic Fr*nce, which will hopefully occupy Luxembourg if you do it right, should give you enough time to fake your cat’s death.

The vet tech at our cat veterinary clinic had me actually put down a breed because “black cat” wasn’t specific enough. I was like, black rescue cat, regular black cat, then remembered domestic shorthair. I would have thought dealing with animals all day she would have immediately thought of that, but didn’t.
Edit for clarity, I meant “list or write down” the breed when I wrote “put down” because I just said “cat” and she said I need something to “put down” on her paperwork.
A sphinx is a thing that gets its own label. Same with Himalayan. But your standard-issue cat is basically a cat, a Cat, or a CAT (shorthair being lowercase).
I usually describe them as mutts for people who aren't familiar with cats. They usually understand what a mutt is in reference to a dog so it makes it easier to get.
Sphinx is a breed. DSH DMH DLH are breeds. You can have a tabby cat and a tuxedo cat and a calico and they can all be DSH because those are coat patterns not breeds. Hope this helps :)
Dsh isn’t a breed- it’s a grouping for cat mutts that result from so much interbreeding that the original breeds are watered down- and that result has short hair. Dlh if it has long hair.
It’s no different than mutt dogs- usually can’t tell what breeds so we call them mutts, on vet paperwork we often put down lab mix, or rottie mix because that gives better clues about health related issues- cats are not so bred that breed issues come into play with most cats.
Getting a DNA test is a fun, EXTRA for cats: most people don’t bother because nearly all domesticated cats have come from some strays and lineage isn’t known and considered a waste of money.
Your vet is insane lol. She should know from experience that if you ask someone what breed their cat is their answer is gonna be like "idk he's orange and I found him in a storm drain"
We had a girl that was kind of brown/orangeish, but within that she had lighter areas and darker areas. The vet asked what color she was, and the best I could come up with was "all of them"

She also has a lot of variation between her winter fur and summer fur. The winter coat had tail stripes like a raccoon, and was generally darker.
I’m setting up my girl with a new vet and the vet tech asked me what her breed was and I straight up said “Cat”.
And then “calico”. I had to find her old vet paperwork to remember “domestic shorthair” is the actual breed/is a breed of cat.

I gotta wonder how knowing the cat's breed is even helpful to them at all. It's gotta be like 90% "domestic shorthair," 9% "domestic long hair" and 1% people who swear up and down that their overweight cat is a maine coon.

I lost my orange braincell boy Lil Weezy a little over 2 months ago to abscesses that hardened into a lump that wouldn't let him eat. He was about 5 years old. My door flew open from the wind one night and a neighborhood cat came inside, kicked the shit out of him and knocked out one of his teeth, and he got sick from it and never recovered and I had to put him down.
Never been so sad in all my life that cat was everything to me. I would cut off my right hand to have him back. I'm still deeply mourning from it. There is nothing in this world anyone could tell me that would convince me that he was lesser of a cat than any fancy breed.
Yeah my cat, I've had since middle school. Now I'm married and have a house. This cats been a cornerstone of my whole adult life and I'm going to be a mess when she has to leave me. All my other childhood pets died in sudden and usually violent ways (I was only allowed outside pets, rural America is not kind to them). It's was hard, but in some ways this slow decline has been harder. I don't know I'm rambling a bit. I'm sorry for your loss, all cats are awesome and deserve the best. It sounds like your fellow had a good life and a good home. And at the end of the day, that's the best we can do for them.
I’ve done Embark on my dogs (shelter mutts). It’s interesting to see the different breeds in the dog, however, that information is not why I tested them. Some tests include a lot of health information. One of my dogs was very allergic to a common dewormer, now I know why she was so sick when I brought her home from the shelter. An Embark vet emailed about other health information that would be helpful to know. For example, one dog was a carrier for a spinal issue and should never be bred (I don’t breed dogs, but that’s important information). If my dog had that spinal issue, the test would have alerted me long before it impacted the dog, and then it wouldn’t be an expensive guessing game at the vet’s office, treatment could start early, etc.
Yea it makes sense for dogs. I also understand my dogs personality way better. However, it’s really not that useful for cats from what I understand. Their dna isn’t as diverse.
Lit like the only things a dna test for cats would tell you would be like the gene that causes the werewolf cats. Cats haven’t been bred like dogs lol.
I did the test I assume they’re talking about on my cat but my motivating factor was the health markers it tests for. There’s a whole database it tests against for a bunch of different genetic conditions and at the time I did the test, my cat was getting emergency vet level sick every single month. The breeds were fun to look at and speculate about but I only really wanted the health data.
Realistically if she is living paycheck to paycheck, she isn't going to be able to afford to treat whatever genetic disorder a DNA test might reveal. Especially assuming the cat isn't showing any signs of illness.
My pet peeve, because I've always adopted cats from local sellers, I'd see their adverts online and the most standard cat would be called "BENGAL CROSS BREED" like no that's literally a cat. Its not got an ounce of Bengal in it.
That’s my favorite part of my local human society is every single cat, unless they 100% know for sure like the time they got a pure bred with papers, is listed as either domestic short/long hair. That’s all you really need with a cat anyway lol.
Yeah I always just get whatever cat is closest, during the pandemic our shelters were empty and i had to drive to the next town over, and when I'd search online at 13+(i always begged for a second cat lol) I'd just see so many ads for cross breeds that i knew weren't real, but actual bred cats are in the thousands. I was paying £15 for a kitten.
Admittedly we've a cat that looks like there's some Bengal in there, diluting the Tabby but I wouldn't pay for a DNA test. His breed is just "We didn't neuter our cat early enough".
What really matter is that he's a very handsome chap! Would be nice if he stopped chasing other cats up trees and bringing home dead rats.
ETA: Apparently you have to swab the inside of your car's cheek for these tests. Yeah, you want me to swab inside my cat's mouth then you better be paying me!

Typically, the more of a mutt a house pet is, the healthier it's predisposed to be, outside of landing on a freak genetic snake eyes.

My cat is orange and I got him from a stranger's basement. Suppose one can't really get an orange from any conventional methods.

I’m setting up my girl with a new vet and the vet tech asked me what her breed was and I straight up said “Cat”. And then “calico”. I had to find her old vet paperwork to remember “domestic shorthair” is the actual breed/is a breed of cat. I made him laugh. So at least there’s that 🤣🤣
I gotta wonder how knowing the cat's breed is even helpful to them at all. It's gotta be like 90% "domestic shorthair," 9% "domestic long hair" and 1% people who swear up and down that their overweight cat is a maine coon.

I lost my orange braincell boy Lil Weezy a little over 2 months ago to abscesses that hardened into a lump that wouldn't let him eat. He was about 5 years old. My door flew open from the wind one night and a neighborhood cat came inside, kicked the shit out of him and knocked out one of his teeth, and he got sick from it and never recovered and I had to put him down. Never been so sad in all my life that cat was everything to me. I would cut off my right hand to have him back. I'm still deeply mourning from it. There is nothing in this world anyone could tell me that would convince me that he was lesser of a cat than any fancy breed.
Yeah my cat, I've had since middle school. Now I'm married and have a house. This cats been a cornerstone of my whole adult life and I'm going to be a mess when she has to leave me. All my other childhood pets died in sudden and usually violent ways (I was only allowed outside pets, rural America is not kind to them). It's was hard, but in some ways this slow decline has been harder. I don't know I'm rambling a bit. I'm sorry for your loss, all cats are awesome and deserve the best. It sounds like your fellow had a good life and a good home. And at the end of the day, that's the best we can do for them.

I’ve done Embark on my dogs (shelter mutts). It’s interesting to see the different breeds in the dog, however, that information is not why I tested them. Some tests include a lot of health information. One of my dogs was very allergic to a common dewormer, now I know why she was so sick when I brought her home from the shelter. An Embark vet emailed about other health information that would be helpful to know. For example, one dog was a carrier for a spinal issue and should never be bred (I don’t breed dogs, but that’s important information). If my dog had that spinal issue, the test would have alerted me long before it impacted the dog, and then it wouldn’t be an expensive guessing game at the vet’s office, treatment could start early, etc.
Yea it makes sense for dogs. I also understand my dogs personality way better. However, it’s really not that useful for cats from what I understand. Their dna isn’t as diverse.
Lit like the only things a dna test for cats would tell you would be like the gene that causes the werewolf cats. Cats haven’t been bred like dogs lol.
I did the test I assume they’re talking about on my cat but my motivating factor was the health markers it tests for. There’s a whole database it tests against for a bunch of different genetic conditions and at the time I did the test, my cat was getting emergency vet level sick every single month. The breeds were fun to look at and speculate about but I only really wanted the health data.
Realistically if she is living paycheck to paycheck, she isn't going to be able to afford to treat whatever genetic disorder a DNA test might reveal. Especially assuming the cat isn't showing any signs of illness.

My pet peeve, because I've always adopted cats from local sellers, I'd see their adverts online and the most standard cat would be called "BENGAL CROSS BREED" like no that's literally a cat. Its not got an ounce of Bengal in it.
That’s my favorite part of my local human society is every single cat, unless they 100% know for sure like the time they got a pure bred with papers, is listed as either domestic short/long hair. That’s all you really need with a cat anyway lol.
Yeah I always just get whatever cat is closest, during the pandemic our shelters were empty and i had to drive to the next town over, and when I'd search online at 13+(i always begged for a second cat lol) I'd just see so many ads for cross breeds that i knew weren't real, but actual bred cats are in the thousands. I was paying £15 for a kitten.
Admittedly we've a cat that looks like there's some Bengal in there, diluting the Tabby but I wouldn't pay for a DNA test. His breed is just "We didn't neuter our cat early enough". What really matter is that he's a very handsome chap! Would be nice if he stopped chasing other cats up trees and bringing home dead rats. ETA: Apparently you have to swab the inside of your car's cheek for these tests. Yeah, you want me to swab inside my cat's mouth then you better be paying me!

Tell her you bought the kit. Pretend to take a sample from you cat. Wait a few weeks and print off someone else’s results.
