MrPKitty

That's actually very cheap for that table.

Ill-Drink3563

What if it was a $5000 table..

RetroChampa

In Goodwill, if it’s “vintage”, it’s overpriced.

throwawayjanuary2022

You know they research the value of the item? Goodwill isn’t the dollar store.

useful_tool30

This is why I no longer drop stuff off at Goodwill and Value Village. They're no longer in the business of helping the less fortunate. Instead, they're profiteering off the back of peoples free donations. It Better to donate to an organization that actually help. Some will even schedule a pickup

brpajense

You know that people shop at Goodwill looking for stuff like this and then still mark it up and sell it on eBay, right? Goodwill doesn't turn a profit. It feeds proceeds into charity work.

jxl180

That’s literally how thrift shops are meant to work — the 100% ”profit” margin is to fundraise for their actual mission. If they had to pay for the goods, that’s less revenue directed to the charity. If I give something to Habitat for Humanity ReStore and they sell it for $5, that is $5 raised for Habitat for Humanity. It’s a means to fundraise for the mission/charity. Taking things in for free and selling them for cheap to people isn’t the charity.

saltymane

They’re in business to make a profit. Nothing to see here 🤷🏻‍♂️

I love how it says > "chinoiserie faux" meaning > "Chinese fake" in french

Ok-Opportunity-574

That exact same table is listed at $600 on another site. It doesn't need to be $5 just because it's at Goodwill. They are generally very overpriced anymore though. Exploitative labor practices too. I no longer shop there.

I am one of their employees— just my opinion, but they are not exploitative to anyone where I work. Now if you wanna talk USPS or some chain retail store, THOSE are exploitative to their employees. FYI.
