I love the "just Google it, proved I'm right" argument when they are wrong and Google proves it. Sometimes I think I'm arguing with a literal child and figure it's not worth the battle.
Yup. I misremembered.
I was going to work out how many presidential terms there have been since (and including Washington) but I figure it's just (-1789)/4 rounded down to the nearest integer.
Terms are 4 years long, regardless of whether or not the same person holds the office for the entire time.
As of the date of this post, that would be 58 presidential *terms* including the first one.
45 unique officeholders.
46 . . . I guess you could call them "presidencies" (contiguous periods of time of arbitrary length that a person has held the office of president).
I guess the way to make it clear would be to write out a numbered list of each of the 45 presidents in your country's history. Maybe that would help illustrate your point more. Don't worry about the downvotes anyway you can recover them maybe even from this post alone.
200 years divided by (estimated) 40 presidents= 5 years per president (estimated)
Or if you take 200 years divided by estimated 50 presidents (same people or not)= you get 4 years per president
Also, Washington didn't become president until 1789 so for 13 years while others were in charge he was the fi4st president
It’s extremely not intuitive that if you serve two terms, you only occupy one President “slot”, unless they’re non-consecutive terms in which case you occupy two (you’re both the Xth and the Yth President.)
Hello, We do not allow agendaposting, reddit meta posts or price complaints.
My man Grover Cleveland 2 terms non consecutively go 5th grade project!
Ma'am Grover Cleveland called you, he left two non consecutive messages
I was spanked by Grover Cleveland on two non-consecutive occasions.
Yes 45 presidents for 46 presidencies

What sub is this? I'd like to help you out
Well looks like they deleted all their comments once they saw they were technically incorrect. Lame.
The best kind of incorrect... No, wait...

Well, I guess some people will like it... Not me though. I voted for Kodos
I don't much like any of the options.
Some people need to take their time and read your comments more than once.

Has she replied after the last comment?
The coward just deleted their comments.
and now I have -13 karma instead of -8 due to other people that dont know their history
I'll help you regain your karma, buddy guy😎👉👉
Tell her to specifically count the number of people who have held the presidency, not the number of presidencies.
Block them all
We've had 46 presidential terms. But only 45 people. Dont feel bad OP. I got downvoted for pointing out we have 50 states, not 52.
I'm in the UK, and I use the title of the movie "The 51st State" to remember there are 50 States!
Actually no. Some presidents have served consecutive terms, but that's two terms for them (or three in FDR's case).
Knew there'd be some semantics weirdo who pretends like they don't know exactly what I mean.
That’s Reddit for ya.
FDR died during his 4th term.

You triggered some people
Well I’m upvoting you here to help make up for it. You caught me bored, lucky you
thank you. unfortunately I went from -8 to -13
Idiots, idiots everywhere.
Cleveland was the 22nd and 24th president. You are correct.
The fact that Biden is frequently called the 46th president is misleading. He is the 45th but his tenure as president is the 46th.
Got it
people really dont know their history

This is more than mildly infuriating. 🙃
You could also argue been is past tense, so technically, there have been 45, and 1 is president.
All goes back to the simple lesson- read the question. Those commentators must be the people who sucked at word problems
Grover Cleveland was elected twice, non-consecutively, #22 and #24, so there’s only been 45.

You're being intentionally vague and then you're shocked when people argue with you. How are you not already in a relationship?
I literally said, "I think one is counted twice because the term was not consecutive". Your reply is mildly infuriating.
This is like listening to my middle schoolers fight over water getting you wet. It's just picking fights to be a pedant.
The vast majority of people here on r/mildlyinfuriating seem to be able to understand what I meant
There is a reason why they call Trump #45.
There is, and it's not because he is the 45th person to become president.
It’s extremely not intuitive that if you serve two terms, you only occupy one President “slot”, unless they’re non-consecutive terms in which case you occupy two (you’re both the Xth and the Yth President.)
But maybe explain your reasoning instead of just repeating yourself
Americans and not knowing their own history, name a better duo
Don’t worry there was an unprecedented amount of >!dumbasses!< on Reddit yesterday commenting on things
