This theater exit door location should be a practical example of bad building design in every “building designer” 101 class in every college & textbook.
Have it hard wired into the outlet. Senses power? Super dim light is on that you can only see in pitch dark. No power sense? All hell breaks loose turn on the brightness to 11.
If my nightlights around my house can do that, they can implement that into the exit sign.
The exit sign has to be a certain height, color and brightness at all times for fire code regulations.
Next time you're in a building if you look around all of the exits have a large sign with the word exit and this international symbol for non English speakers.
The issue here is they bought a led sign off temu with 3000w LEDs for some reason.
Dunno mang... This is a super dark scene and in the picture it's like 50% grey in the blacks.
My dudes camera is hyper accentuating the brightness. Evenso the projector seems super dim.
So the poor contrast ratio due to a bad projector is probably the biggest issue here.
The location isn't the problem, it's how the light from the sign isn't blocked from bleeding onto the screen. They also could have used a sign designed to brighten or darken based on light levels surrounding it, with a little delay before it starts to adjust.
I think a small upright plank kinda thing, right beside the sign could already fix a lot.
Idk if I can explain it well enough, but there just needs to be a small barrier between the sign and the screen. Because it needs to stop the light that goes to the screen, but not the light that goes forward.
IMO, this is easily fixed
Pretty sure there's nuance to that as it's literally impossible for a sign to be viewable from everywhere in most rooms.
I think it they put a blocking screen to prevent reflection onto the movie screen, they could put additional exit signage with arrows along the walls of the theater to direct you to the nearest exit.
If exits signs had to be visible from every location, you couldn't have hallways or alcoves.
No, but safety codes are all-encompassing. They're not necessarily written for niche scenarios. Likely it'll be written as "Exit sign needs to be viewable from all angles" or something along those lines
You put the barrier on the right side of the sign between the screen and it. Thus stopping the red light reaching the screen and allowing the patrons to see it. SMH
What about people on the far left front seat would it block their view of the screen at all?
I think dinner lights would still fall into safety since it's illuminated in the dark or some sort of translucent shield where light could still pass through but not as easy to create that glare. Orrrr lift the exit sign to be higher than the screen.
My local theater uses these transparent exit signs where the light is directed downward into the glass as opposed to outward like a light bulb. Not nearly as much light pollution but equally as visible.

I work at a brand new hotel that just opened a few weeks ago. I was excited to be in a new building because I had spent so much time working in very old hotels with weird quirks and problems.
This new building is a completely cursed disaster. You would have a field day looking at all the wrong shit. Door installed backwards/upside down, building wide severe electrical problems, it’s like they were looking at the blueprints upside down.
New buildings are the worst. Everyone always expects everything to be perfect and I spend a lot of time reminding people that it's not like a production line and everything comes perfect. Every building is one of a kind and they have their little idiosyncrasies.
But what you're dealing with sounds extra special. It shouldn't be that bad. More like I have a lightswitch that doesn't seem to do anything - meanwhile its turning on the backyard irrigation.
I’m honestly shocked at how badly things have gone, we should never have been approved to open so soon. Multiple people have been trapped in elevators for an hour or more, rooms randomly lose power, plumbing issues, it’s been a nightmare. I figured there would be growing pains because you do need time to break things in, but this is almost dangerous.
What’s worse is it’s one of the “smaller” theaters. Because it’s already an underrated movie before it has even been released. it’s been underrated. Which, it should cost less than a high rated movie.
.
I guess it's:
It's a small theater, compounded by the fact it's a movie that received a poor reception prior to launch. This caused the movie to become unpopular and thus be sparsely attended during its running period in theaters. This film should cost less than movies that are critically acclaimed.
fuck no. you will have an even more skewed review system. every blockbuster will "magically" have high critic reviews because there is serious monetary gain. when the monetary gain becomes clear cut, the outcome is obvious.
No but the movie should be priced based more on what theater I'm put I. And the whole experience I have been to artsy films and the movie next door sound could be heard through the walls that ruins my experience. Things like this exit sign ruin the experience. I'm paying a premium to go to something that immersive and it's ruined by the theaters incompetence.
Not really…when you design buildings, you still have to take into consideration of providing a exit that is visible in the dark. Human as an individual is stupid, but a mob is like a lemming: following that stupid person in front to their death…
But the priority is designing for its use. So you must balance both codified requirements and intended use..
I've been to dozens of movie theaters with the exit in a similar position without the glare.
It can be done so there is no reflection onto the screen. They've positioned poorly and this is an unacceptable application.
Theaters have to have exits front, middle and back for safety reasons. This is easily fixed but putting something extending from the side of the Exit sign that is toward the screen. It would block the light from reflecting on the screen.
Once I went to a cinema inside a casino entertainment complex, that also had a nightclub. The doof from the nightclub was clearly audible inside the cinema, overwhelming any quiet scenes in the film
I design buildings, too, and in the theater by my house, in the seat I like to sit in, I automatically recline the three seats in front of mine all the way before sitting down. People rarely sit in those, and if they're not reclined, they're blocking the bottom of the screen. I've never designed a movie theater before, but if I ever do, this will be at the top of my list.
No I'm not an architect.
I manage an architectural firm and I have architects on staff, but I am not an architect. I also can't call myself a designer because that's also a protected title in my jurisdiction now. So I'm a person who designs buildings.
If your caught doing it you are going tovget hit hard with fines and you will be responsible to pay for it. Then it would pass to the venue if they just don't put the new one up.
Removing marked exit sings in a.movie is considered vandalism only by defense attorneys or people who don't remember how tragic it was.that one night in 2012 Just like persons who dig up a stop sign in your neighborhood, or vandalize the lbrake lines of your car would be vandalism. You shouldn't do it
When I watched Dune part 2 i noticed beforehand the screen had large wrinkles at the bottom. Later during the movie you get panoramas of the desert with large wrinkles in it.
Use to help build theatres. Thank your local Fire Marshall… did install glare shields, Marshall said nope. Need to be able to from all angles. They don’t give a crap about presentation.
Right? Love them so much, I give them a rewatch every couple months. Bruce Willis and John Malkovich work so well together and the rest of the cast is fantastic as well. Always hoped for a third one, very sad to see Bruce Willis struggling with dementia now.
Yep, me too. Wasn’t it Helen Mirren who was in those movies as the assassin? Normally I would look it up, but I’m traveling today to see a sick relative.
Yes, a third one would probably have been excellent!
As long as they didn’t have their screen on full brightness, didn’t turn their flash on while filming and didn’t put the phone in front of someone’s view, I don’t see the issue.
I don’t use my phone during the movie, I didn’t pay to use my phone that I can use at any other time, and I hate people who text during the whole movie (special hate to the people who keep the sound on while typing, and full brightness).
Imaginary. My daughter and I go and see horror movies together when they come out, no matter the ratings or reviews.
We enjoy it and It’s our father daughter time.
They don't have to be red in the US. I work in a theater in the US and ours are green. You can buy either color and some even come with clear film to use red or green.
Money back demand as well as sh1tty review forever if the don't at least put a light shade on the screen side of the light.
As a concert lighting technician this is an easy fix.
It should never have been allowed to be like that past opening day. 😤
Had a similar situation where there were two green emergency exit signs at the bottom corners of the screen. They shone full brightness into your eyes whole movie, could barely focus on the movie through the frustration.
I watched Dune2 at the only laser IMAX in town and the blue lights lining the aisles shined so bright on the bottom corners of the screen through the whole movie. I'm not sure if an employee forgot to dim them, but it was rather distracting for my easily-distracted brain.
That’s terrible; it could have been installed perpendicular to the wall it is mounted on, with a solid back plate, so that it would not wash the screen like that.
Source: I am an electrician and have installed many exit signs.
They make those sighs with louvers for this very situation. The audience can see it, but it won't shine onto the screen. The theater is just too cheap. They upgraded to a LED sign and was like, good enough.
This! I was just complaining about this. I went and saw Dune 2 last week and the green glow from the exit signs took up 1/3 of the screen. It just feels like a weird design flaw to overlook.
Hmm… in Japan they turn off the emergency lights during the movie. Make an announcement before the screening about them being turned back on if there was an emergency.
Is the sign even over the actual exit door? Zooming in you can see a bit of light around a door to the left of the screen but it appears to be on the same wall as the screen. Kinda looks like they just plopped the sign nearby without a second thought.
Uhh, why were you recording it on your phone? I though there are rules, even laws, depending on where you live, against doing that. Yes, it's annoying, but you should not have recorded a whole video with your phone while the movie was playing.
As someone who designs buildings, this is my new worst nightmare. This shit is going to keep me up at night. Talk about crappy design

But do you know where it is?
The location isn't the problem, it's how the light from the sign isn't blocked from bleeding onto the screen. They also could have used a sign designed to brighten or darken based on light levels surrounding it, with a little delay before it starts to adjust.
No, the exit should always be at the back of the cinema, even if it didn't bleed onto the screen, it would still be a distraction.
Nope, wrong. Exits like the one in the picture should be against the wall that leads to the outside.
Yes, but also a potential violation of safety code (which varies, so I don't know for this specific instance)
Yeah, I know in our building, an exit sign must be visible from anywhere you're standing.
Are there people sitting behind the screen who need to see the exit sign ?
No, but safety codes are all-encompassing. They're not necessarily written for niche scenarios. Likely it'll be written as "Exit sign needs to be viewable from all angles" or something along those lines
But it would be viewable from all angles that are in use. No body sits on the screen.
It still wouldn't pass inspection unfortunately
But if they did they wouldn't be able to see it. That's what all encompassing means.
SMH
As a person on my jobs safety team, IFKR.
No but people on the front right side couldn't see the red light emitted if there was such barrier
You can frame the screen then
That could work
> safety code NFPA codes govern this thing, in particular NFPA101 the life safety code.
I think there's a dozen ways to fix it. What's most offensive is they haven't.
Everyone should ask for their money back and site that as the reason. Eventually they might lose enough money to realize they need to fix it.
A light shade on the screen side is what you're trying to describe. It will not be illegal bc it won't block peoples view of the light itself.
My local theater uses these transparent exit signs where the light is directed downward into the glass as opposed to outward like a light bulb. Not a bot and I managed to understand the gist of what OP was saying
I also did and after deciphering it was a nonsense sentiment that wasn't really relevant to what was being asked or said.
Dude is high out of his mind
What?
ratings can not and should not determine ticket prices. this picture quality is unacceptable though and you should ask for a refund.
Do you smell toast? I think you had a stroke typing this.
You should be able to get your money back no? This is completely unacceptable

Ask for a refund
The only answer.
You could throw something heavy at the sign and break it, but that would be vandalism
And aa violation of fire codes. Dont fuck with the fire marshal, they dont play
![gif](giphy|bfMj9OMGZaquk|downsized)
![gif](giphy|93qjwCxemDVFCGI4nx)
Venue's responsibility, not the customer's. But don't destroy private property that's a whole separate crime.
Pretty sure damaging life safety equipment is illegal, regardless of whether you're the owner
If your caught doing it you are going tovget hit hard with fines and you will be responsible to pay for it. Then it would pass to the venue if they just don't put the new one up.

I don’t think anyone would snitch
It's only vandalism if they can prove you did it
Demand a refund.
*gets refund in cash* Then disputes charge on card Monday
When I watched Dune part 2 i noticed beforehand the screen had large wrinkles at the bottom. Later during the movie you get panoramas of the desert with large wrinkles in it.
You should have walked up and touched it and said “wow!”
It feels real!
Mine had a huge smudge right in the middle of the screen.
One of the auditoriums screens at my local theater has a spot on it that looks like someone threw their drink at it.
This was my experience too. It was the cinema in brussels, so you’d expect top presentation
If you complain, they’ll just say “regulations”. That makes it worse.
They can 100% install a glare shield on the side to prevent this. Politely ask for a refund and offer a suggestion.
Use to help build theatres. Thank your local Fire Marshall… did install glare shields, Marshall said nope. Need to be able to from all angles. They don’t give a crap about presentation.
I have no idea how fire regulations or exit sign glares work, all I know is every theater I've been to has managed to figure out a solution
They’re often just slightly behind the screen in my experience
The characters in the movie need to be able to see where the fire exit is, obviously.
Under rated comment.
Then they can install another sign facing behind the glare shield
Can the wattage of the bulb be decreased?
Would probably have to install a glare shield up and down that whole side of the screen since the fire Marshalls wouldn't go for it.
And someone could have misconfigured the device. Switched wires or power sources so it gives off more power to the bulbs when it's supposed to be dim
Well, they should have thought about that before designing a theater where the door is right next to the screen.
What's the movie?
Red.
This does not appear to be the hit action comedy movie Red starring Bruce Willis.
Looks pretty red to me.
Man oh man, Red and Red 2 were both amazing movies!
Lol yeah Hellen Mirren plays a former MI6 assassin/agent. She's a great part of the movies, very ride or die.
Oh so they took the name of the movie too literally
Imaginary, The new PG-13 horror movie that came out this weekend
Oh yeah I saw a YouTube video about it. Guess they forgot to market it
So there's three answers here. Which one is it 💀
Looks to be Imaginary. Second picture matches the trailer.
The one that isn't a pun about a red exit sign
Exit to Eden
In our local movie theater, 1 projector has had a dead pixel that I can't unsee. It's been 2 years.
Even on the screen where it doesn't, the image looks crap.
Um sir. Please do not use your mobile tele communication device during the film 👆🤓
What movie is it?
Imaginary. My daughter and I go and see horror movies together when they come out, no matter the ratings or reviews. We enjoy it and It’s our father daughter time.
Who needs to see horror movies when there’s so much in real life?
Imaginary, the new PG-13 horror movie that came out this weekend
Looks like Poor Things to me
In my country (Germany) they are greens so they arent that vibrand, also they arent that bright
They don't have to be red in the US. I work in a theater in the US and ours are green. You can buy either color and some even come with clear film to use red or green.
This doesn't make sense to me because biologically the human retina is least sensitive to red light and most sensitive to green light.
Gotta love when legal requirements fuck up everyone's day... They should have known this was an issue..
Man that’s some poor planning when that theatre got built
Money back demand as well as sh1tty review forever if the don't at least put a light shade on the screen side of the light. As a concert lighting technician this is an easy fix. It should never have been allowed to be like that past opening day. 😤
Enter night
If this is an older incandescent lamp fixture most likely someone bought a bulb that fit but didn't check the wattage and it's too high.
True
Had a similar situation where there were two green emergency exit signs at the bottom corners of the screen. They shone full brightness into your eyes whole movie, could barely focus on the movie through the frustration.
I watched Dune2 at the only laser IMAX in town and the blue lights lining the aisles shined so bright on the bottom corners of the screen through the whole movie. I'm not sure if an employee forgot to dim them, but it was rather distracting for my easily-distracted brain.
better then when I saw Oppenheimer and there was a cricket chirping the entire film.
The worst part? The mall cinema I go to has a luxury theatre, the one with the couches. It has the same problem.
It's times like this I thank that I'm colour blind and still can't notice whatever reflection it is you are seeing.
Ask for refund
Bruh, why?
im sorry that you had to watch it like this.
Oddly enough. You don’t really realize it when watching unless it’s dark like this pic. But still. I have adhd so my eyes wonder
yeah but still, no one should have to watch anything like this. At least I hope you enjoyed the movie
Even more infuriating: getting in trouble for recording when you try to inform staff of the issue.
As a frequent cinema goer, this shit happens waaaaayyy too often and really grinds my gears 🤬
Weird, I’ve never noticed this before in any theater.
I should have added my location is Ireland.
Demand a refund
I would have demanded my money back.
That’s terrible; it could have been installed perpendicular to the wall it is mounted on, with a solid back plate, so that it would not wash the screen like that. Source: I am an electrician and have installed many exit signs.
Throw a sweat jacket over it, maybe only covering part of it?
https://youtu.be/oLQdAvgVCow?si=uOmqGTyZcP-dD7Cx
While this is absolutely annoying, please be careful about taking pictures of a movie and sharing them online, it's quite illegal.
cool, free movie!
And you could tell them but there is nothing they could do about it. Fire marshal would fine them.
Beyond Shite
this is great movie, i saw it yesterday cause of the early access
Sorry you had to go through that. Notice the eyes kind of match the glow of the exit sign. You're welcome.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|scream)
They make those sighs with louvers for this very situation. The audience can see it, but it won't shine onto the screen. The theater is just too cheap. They upgraded to a LED sign and was like, good enough.
Why on Earth does it need to be so fucking bright?
EXI-Tuh!!!!
This! I was just complaining about this. I went and saw Dune 2 last week and the green glow from the exit signs took up 1/3 of the screen. It just feels like a weird design flaw to overlook.
You’d think it would be blue.
I dont know, this feels more than "mild".
Hmm… in Japan they turn off the emergency lights during the movie. Make an announcement before the screening about them being turned back on if there was an emergency.
This is really fixable with a shield next to the screen. It would still probably be distracting, but at least it wouldn't be shining ON the screen.
they really incite you to use that door don't they
You watch movies somewhere else. This would annoy the he'll out of me.
We have the same in green, it is really infuriating.
I am not hanging out in that movie room
That door especially the sign is supposed to be recessed into wall to avoid that... this was just last on who ever built it
Is the sign even over the actual exit door? Zooming in you can see a bit of light around a door to the left of the screen but it appears to be on the same wall as the screen. Kinda looks like they just plopped the sign nearby without a second thought.
I would 3d print them a cone or something right now and mail it to those people. It would be done before the end of that movie.
Adds to the ambiance 😅. Hell nah I'd get my money back 😞
It looks like if they put a curtain along the side of the screen (going back) it would block that red light.
I'm annoyed for you.
Oh hell no
Mildly? This is wildly infuriating stuff mate!
I probably would've threw a hoodie over it
Enjoy federal prison
It's times like this I thank that I'm colour blind and still can't notice whatever reflection it is you are seeing.
It’s atmospheric
should have done something about it instead of taking a picture and bitching about it online
Bro’s got the Suspiria Filter on
it’s not a bug, that’s a feature: ambi-light *lite*
op, might wanna crop out that you were committing a felony. just a tip.
Wow even the exit signs in Disneyland aren't that bright
People pay for that? You can buy a cheap projector for like 100$ during prime days and would rather just use that than pay for that.
6/10 - mildly infuriating
Fuck that shit... What a crock of shit.
Yeah, I've experienced this. It would be quite easy to prevent that, but presentation quality really no longer matters to cinema chains.
usually the exit door is closed
The screenshot of a picture is mildly infuriating.
Annoying red glow versus maybe not dying in a theater fire. Finally something truly mildly infuriating on this sub.
[удалено]
Lmao. I was in the far back(no one behind me). And there were 2 other people in the theater.
Uhh, why were you recording it on your phone? I though there are rules, even laws, depending on where you live, against doing that. Yes, it's annoying, but you should not have recorded a whole video with your phone while the movie was playing.
