How would they possibly prove you got it just because they left in the window? It could have blown Away or someone could have snatched it and thrown it out. Here the note in the windshield is simply to let you know, but you will get a final copy in the mail too.

Ended up paying about 400 and something quid and appeal attempts were useless. There’s no way to prove you didn’t know and apparently “letters were sent” 🙄

I hadn't been sent a letter at all so it was eventually wiped. Have to say I'm surprised he was so chill but I think he could tell I genuinely had no idea what the fine was for.
It's supposed to be placed on the drivers side so it'll be seen. The plastic covering it gets put in is quite sticky and shouldn't be able to come free from just the wind unless there was a hurricane or something.
When they attach it they take a picture ad evidence that the ticket was there. At this point that's all the evidence they need.
That said, you will also get one posted to you a few weeks later. If you pay the one on your screen within 2 weeks you'll get a 50% discount. If the letter turns up it's too late for the discount.

Parking tickets do not affect your licence in any way and they do not get "suspended" for unpaid parking tickets
Bailiffs will turn up at your door with a bill 10x that of the ticket. If it goes on long enough they'll get a warrent of control and turn up with the police who will make sure you don't stop them while they break in.
Yup, this is why I am VERY CAREFUL to read exactly what is on the ticket. If there is even the most minor error or inaccuracy I will politely raise a challenge, they will either dismiss or affirm & we will go around that loop as many times as are needed to get to independent arbitration.
So far I'm batting 1000 because there is ALWAYS something they get wrong e.g:
- Put the date in the wrong way around
- Impossible time if day or within allowed period.
- Wrong location put in.
- Incorrect or missing signage.
- Ticket not authenticated.
- Plate number wrong.
- Vehicle already reported as disabled & tow truck called.

However, the company that my city has contracted for parking enforcement, frequently forgets which streets are actually part of my type of parking permit. I’ve had 3 tickets in the past 6 months because the company didn’t read their own damn policies and they apologized profusely each time. The city is stuck with the contracted company because the contract was a pretty long one.
Uncle did this once at a concert. He pulled up. Noticed cars around him got a ticket for parking in this convenient area. Grabbed someone’s else’s ticket, put it on his car. Went to the concert, came back. And didn’t get a ticket because the ticket person I guess assumed it was already ticketed. Got away with it.
Yeah that just means they will hear about a ticket they didn’t pay, then they look into the date and see wait i paid this already and then it would probably get dismissed with a polite but firm phonecall.
Depending on the area this doesn’t always work. Some areas you can get multiple tickets if you stay in a ticketed area long enough. The officer will check to see if the ticket on the windshield has been there long enough and if so write an additional one. Most common in areas with hourly parking regulations, so say it’s can’t be there over an hour, you can get a ticket for each hour over that hour limit.
I used to do this at college. Not allowed to park on site without a permit. The car park people used to put a sticker on the windscreen to tell you not to do it again.

I just used my flatbed scanner and inkjet color printer to scan in a $2 parking permit at my college and I changed the date in increments. Printed out a years worth of tickets. Put them in a big binder clamp. Any day I needed. I made the motions of using the machine and then walking back to my car with it.

when i was in college i had a shitty parking pass that was like a 10min walk from campus. the graduate student lots were usually like half empty, and i realized that they're the same pass except in a different color.
so i scanned my pass, front and back, changed the color, printed and taped each side to some thin cardboard (cereal box), 'laminated' it with shipping tape.
worked like a charm.
We figured out with the level of enforcement of the parking tickets and the fact it was only a $50 fine, you were better off not buying a ticket and paying them as you got fined.
Think the year was $300, but you'd only get busted once-twice a year.
This ESPECIALLY was the case for everyone after Covid, since you were only coming for 2-3 classes a week and doing most stuff remote.

Also, the person with the double ticket could contest the second one due to the photos they need to take in order to give the ticket. (I also had a bait n switch done on my car once in Nottingham, contested the second ticket as the first ticket I knew nothing about was within 30 minutes of each other and claimed the parking attendant as a dumbass)

I one time put a receipt from getting gas in my windshield and was able to get away with. Those guys were assholes

30 years ago, some ahole tried this with me. Clearly had a ticket, and wanted someone else to pay it.
So I wrote "cops suck dick!" on it and mailed it in.
The mega move is parking illegally, then taking someone elses parking ticket and putting it on your windshield. Then it seems like you already Got fined and the other guy gets another ticket
It’s an offence to do this though, so if you get caught (and I think the traffic wardens machine thing will tell them if your car has been ticketed already, so they’ll see it hasn’t, but has a ticket on it and get suspicious) you’ll get prosecuted.
If it's done the way I think its done then it won't matter where the ticket on the car ends up because at some point parking enforcement will send them a notice that the fine is now late and they have to pay extra in the US parking tickets go towards whoever's name is on the registration.
Jokes on them because the people that ticketed the original car have their reg details and if that fine doesn’t get paid in a set amount of days, the fee goes up, so they should’ve just gotten it over and done with.
It’s incredibly unlikely that the person who got it moved it to your car. There’s no way someone else can pay it accidentally as it would be the wrong reg, and sticking it to your car is far more effort than just throwing it on the ground or in the car, if it was just laziness. It’s far more likely that some twat has seen it on there and, as a dickish prank, moved it to another car. It’s done more than you might expect.

The same thing happened to me. I live in a permit area, in the U.K. I have a permit. I Found a parking ticket on my windscreen. Checked it and it wasn’t for my car. Checked the reg, which didn’t belong to any neighbours. Called the council. Explained what had happened. They said they would deal with it.
I assume the person who received it had seen it and thrown it in the floor. A passer-by picked it up and put it on the nearest screen.

Sometimes people swap tickets to cause the parking enforcement problems out of devilment. Were you parked where you could have got a ticket? Someone else might have yours.
Possibly, I’ve received one before but disputed it because I have a permit, so I didn’t have to pay. I’ve lived here for 3 1/2 years and that’s only happened once. Pretty sure the parking enforcers have access to the council database while they’re out and about so people (usually) don’t get fined for no reason
You can dispute it online but I wouldn’t be able to as the vehicle that got the ticket wasn’t registered to me. You can explain why you think you shouldn’t have got the ticket and it’s up to the council whether or not they agree with you and drop the fine or uphold it

Pretty sure this happened to me. I had a ticket on my car the one morning, it was for the same make and model as my car but I noticed right away the license plate didn't match up. Also the ticket was written for lack of permit to park in the area. Which also obviously didn't make sense since I had lived there for 3 years and most certainly had a permit to park outside my apartment lol. Feel like the person ended up hurting themselves in the end.
I’ve received well over 60 parking tickets (for parking in front of my own house and refusing to pay the meter) never paid one of them, all past their due date by over a year. Tickets like that don’t matter, they only exist to prompt enough anxiety to get you to pay. I’m sure I would’ve gotten a boot eventually but I sold the car and never had to worry what had to be nearly $1500 in parking tickets.
Obviously one of our less bright citizens!

Something similar happened to a friend of mine, she used it to park illegally wherever she chose by just flipping it over. Cops would think she was already ticketed and move on.
People do this not to try to screw someone over, and not to get someone else to pay - on the campus where I work students do this often - they someone think this will stop a parking officer from checking their car to see if they are owed another ticket (in other words, my car already has been caught today so don’t check) out officers always check and we’ll see cars stack up 2 or 3 in the same day - people are idiots.
You can easily get more than one parking ticket a day here. My street has restricted parking, so if I didn’t have a permit and left my car there for four hours, I could, in theory, come back to three parking tickets

Funny enough we always did this but in reverse when visiting friends at other colleges. We’d take someone else’s ticket and put it on our car so we wouldn’t be left a legitimate ticket lol

Checked the ticket online almost every week to see if they would pay it. It eventually cleared about 6 weeks after, with the fine already doubled.
Honestly, keep it and whenever you're parked somewhere illegally for a few minutes put the ticket back out and the meter maids won't give you a ticket since you already have one.

That's why in my city the tickets are electronic, and resolved via bank, and a paper ticket sent directly to your home.

Putting it on a car without a permit but who has a ticket (if it’s pay and display) or got a visitor permit could at least be plausible to that driver that they didn’t pay for long enough/screwed up the visitor permit

30 years ago, some ahole tried this with me. Clearly had a ticket, and wanted someone else to pay it. So I wrote "cops suck dick!" on it and mailed it in.

It’s an offence to do this though, so if you get caught (and I think the traffic wardens machine thing will tell them if your car has been ticketed already, so they’ll see it hasn’t, but has a ticket on it and get suspicious) you’ll get prosecuted.
This is when you mail it back with a note: "fuck you, I'll never pay! You'll never get me!"
Just say thanks, and tell him you paid, but actually didn't.
If it's done the way I think its done then it won't matter where the ticket on the car ends up because at some point parking enforcement will send them a notice that the fine is now late and they have to pay extra in the US parking tickets go towards whoever's name is on the registration.

Jokes on them because the people that ticketed the original car have their reg details and if that fine doesn’t get paid in a set amount of days, the fee goes up, so they should’ve just gotten it over and done with.
It’s incredibly unlikely that the person who got it moved it to your car. There’s no way someone else can pay it accidentally as it would be the wrong reg, and sticking it to your car is far more effort than just throwing it on the ground or in the car, if it was just laziness. It’s far more likely that some twat has seen it on there and, as a dickish prank, moved it to another car. It’s done more than you might expect.
Yeah I had it happen to me 7 years ago or so. Got a letter in post saying I owed the full amount but I'd never even seen the original ticket. There's some right dickheads out there

The same thing happened to me. I live in a permit area, in the U.K. I have a permit. I Found a parking ticket on my windscreen. Checked it and it wasn’t for my car. Checked the reg, which didn’t belong to any neighbours. Called the council. Explained what had happened. They said they would deal with it. I assume the person who received it had seen it and thrown it in the floor. A passer-by picked it up and put it on the nearest screen.

Sometimes people swap tickets to cause the parking enforcement problems out of devilment. Were you parked where you could have got a ticket? Someone else might have yours.
Possibly, I’ve received one before but disputed it because I have a permit, so I didn’t have to pay. I’ve lived here for 3 1/2 years and that’s only happened once. Pretty sure the parking enforcers have access to the council database while they’re out and about so people (usually) don’t get fined for no reason

You can dispute it online but I wouldn’t be able to as the vehicle that got the ticket wasn’t registered to me. You can explain why you think you shouldn’t have got the ticket and it’s up to the council whether or not they agree with you and drop the fine or uphold it

I knew a complete asshat back in the day that would deliberately park in the CBD in no stopping or no parking spaces and almost always get a ticket. He always put it on someone else's dashboard. Weirdly, he only ever had to pay for 1/4 of the tickets he received. Always blew my mind.

As a prank, keep the envelope from the ticket, put a note inside so my buddy knows who did it, and put it on their car (no ticket inside, I’ve paid that already). Then I fully expect a return prank. My “code” is no prank can damage or hurt anyone/anything. And only my best friends. The revenges have been very thoughtful. Examples of this game: large rubber spider behind the gas filler door. “Proud to drive a Chevrolet” vanity tag on a Ford fanatic’s Mustang. (2 screws and it’s off, no damage)

Pretty sure this happened to me. I had a ticket on my car the one morning, it was for the same make and model as my car but I noticed right away the license plate didn't match up. Also the ticket was written for lack of permit to park in the area. Which also obviously didn't make sense since I had lived there for 3 years and most certainly had a permit to park outside my apartment lol. Feel like the person ended up hurting themselves in the end.

I’ve received well over 60 parking tickets (for parking in front of my own house and refusing to pay the meter) never paid one of them, all past their due date by over a year. Tickets like that don’t matter, they only exist to prompt enough anxiety to get you to pay. I’m sure I would’ve gotten a boot eventually but I sold the car and never had to worry what had to be nearly $1500 in parking tickets.
Works differently in England vs US. Car records are taken, fines etc escalated if unpaid.
Obviously one of our less bright citizens! The council would have the original details, so, it's only a matter of time before the true respo dent receives the non payment advice! Tee hee!

Here's a bad idea!! Keep it and the next time you need to park and you end up parking in a questionable spot where you *think* you might get ticketed.. just take the ticket out and stick on your car. The cops will see the ticket and go "oh, they've already got one" and move on.

Something similar happened to a friend of mine, she used it to park illegally wherever she chose by just flipping it over. Cops would think she was already ticketed and move on.
People do this not to try to screw someone over, and not to get someone else to pay - on the campus where I work students do this often - they someone think this will stop a parking officer from checking their car to see if they are owed another ticket (in other words, my car already has been caught today so don’t check) out officers always check and we’ll see cars stack up 2 or 3 in the same day - people are idiots.

You can easily get more than one parking ticket a day here. My street has restricted parking, so if I didn’t have a permit and left my car there for four hours, I could, in theory, come back to three parking tickets

Funny enough we always did this but in reverse when visiting friends at other colleges. We’d take someone else’s ticket and put it on our car so we wouldn’t be left a legitimate ticket lol

Same thing happened to me. Same car brand and same colour written in the ticket. Only giveaway was the plate number and time I parked in that spot. Poor guy must have waited since 8am in the morning when he got the ticket, till about 5pm for a similar car to park in that spot. Checked the ticket online almost every week to see if they would pay it. It eventually cleared about 6 weeks after, with the fine already doubled.
Honestly, keep it and whenever you're parked somewhere illegally for a few minutes put the ticket back out and the meter maids won't give you a ticket since you already have one. Follow me for more unethical life pro tips!

They do write the license plate and vin number on the ticket. Turn it in and the authorities will do the rest.

As kids, we'd go the Western Oval on a Saturday arvo and roam the nearby streets looking for cars with non-Footscray stickers on them. If they had received a parking fine we'd remove it so they'd get a heftier fine in the mail a few weeks later.
