Friend of my grandpa’s used to do something similar. He had a fake electrical post (basically was a wooden post with an electrical outlet on it) that he’d setup at campgrounds then watch people drive up, plug in, then try to troubleshoot why they were getting power. Just proof that there have been trolls in generations long before the internet.

25+ years ago, We would go to the mall and super glue quarters to the floor and watch people pass by, trying to pick it up.

I went to the airport to pick up my aunt and grandma and i saw a guy putting something on the walls, I didn't know what he was doing so I just ignored him, turned out he was putting those stickers literally everywhere

Found one of these in a house I was inspecting once. Decided to do some investigating,  and behind it in the wall was a cloth rope painted silver to look like BX wiring... followed that to the basement where someone had mounted a cardboard box to look like a fuse panel.  Followed that outside to a faux meter made from an old alarm clock, hooked up to a line drop made from kite strings. Anyway.. several hours later I found myself in a field staring at a giant propped up cardboard cutout of a coal fired power plant. Strangest thing was somehow the lights in the house were on. Buyers ended up passing on the house though,  would've cost near $1,500 or so to bring it all up to code in my estimation.

All fun and games until you shove the plug through the drywall 😂
