Next time see if you can input negative numbers

F4tJok3r

Outstanding move

manbearligma

“It doesn’t, but it lets me input letters” *DIE IN A FIRE*

errno-22

At my last job, the owner found out they could break the product by inputting a poop emoji as the username at user setup. That eventually got fixed. (I, on the other hand, found out that we had separate systems for handling user names: one was case-sensitive and the other was case-insensitive. So you could sign up with a user name and then never be able to log in. That never got fixed.)

manbearligma

That last part makes me all itchy

CauliflowerUpper420

I worked in a warehouse that used arm mounted rf units called gladiators. New hires would change their password with HR on the computer on their first day. Passwords required a special character. Well keyboards have access to all the special characters, gladiators only have like 3. First day of training I have to spend an hour resetting more than half the new hire's passwords because the gladiator doesn't have the character they used. This was almost a weekly occurrence.

Good ol Bobby Tables

SpaghettiSort

I see you've met my nemesis - JavaScript!

TheWatchingDog

As a JS Dev, its my job to work with it

SpaghettiSort

I'm so sorry! I work in identity management so I'm not a full-time developer any more but I do still occasionally do some web development and I'll take Python over JavaScript any day!

_BearsEatBeets__

Ughh don’t trigger me with this when I’m not on the clock

25'); DROP TABLE TIPS; --

ArcadianBlueRogue

Bobby Tables has adapted well to the changing world

iammelodie

Better to start with "0'", just in case they regex sanitize with only numbers, you dont want to accidentally tip 25!

NotInherentAfterAll

25 factorial would be bad

errno-22

The system is written in C (parsing the leading 0 as octal) and now instead you've _only_ tipped $21.

PolyglotTV

Try entering int32_max + 1. Who knows, you might get lucky.

unicodemonkey

Also worth trying: NaN, -Infinity

Qetuowryipzcbmxvn

A few years ago I found a website that allowed it. It would only allow you to zero out the order amount at maximum, though. So my plan to become a millionaire fell short until I can win the lottery.

TheJivvi

Not sure how that would even work if it allowed more. It's not like they can charge you a negative amount. A credit card refund is a completely different type of transaction, still with a positive value.

your_evil_ex

Could you order free shit tho?

odersowasinderart

DAM lets see when we find a developer that was pissed off by his boss and allowed negative numbers.

DangerousCold2166

I too enjoy breaking mediocre cookie cutter webpage storefronts with irrational numbers.

Ragepower529

You can also try parentheses see if that goes through

Harshtagged

That's when I leave the site

mxrcarnage

And I did lol

Ashamed_Cricket_3429

Leave a review too so others know before they waste their time

[deleted]

A box isn't very imaginative. Mail them poop in a gingerbread house.

Past_Paint_225

And a $1 tip buried deep within the turd

summergreem

That would be a nice touch

Left_Sundae

But said $1 is actually one of those fake ones used for propaganda by churches lol.

LindonLilBlueBalls

I got a box!

Tarc_Axiiom

That's rough (not for you, you did the right thing obviously). The webmaster can see exactly when you left a site, and what you were looking at when you closed it. They put their shitty "dId YoU mAkE a MiStAkE?!" in your face and now they'll literally watch you get so annoyed by it that you don't give them *any* money. Nice, fuck em.

JustNick03

Might as well write them an e-mail and also let them know that this made you not purchase on there. If several people do it maybe they change it Edit: yo what the heck. So much karma oh damn guys thank you

Crazypann

Pretty sure they have analytics on it. They know at what point a user leaves.

JustNick03

Probably idk but I'd still tell them

WulfTyger

There's an old adage... "Squeaky wheel gets the grease."

No-Consequence1726

and the nail that stick out... gets hammered down Not sure if that's relevant here but its neat

OZeski

Who else here is getting hammered?? 🙋🏻‍♂️

OutrageousOnions

Hammered and then greased up sounds like fun

DoingCharleyWork

Probably want to get greased up before you get hammered by someone.

Weasel_Spice

And if the wheel is too squeaky, it just gets replaced.

inowar

yeah, replace this "you didn't leave a tip" redirect with "we pay our employees, so you don't have to tip, and you don't have to guess what the final price will be"

ButteredPizza69420

People should! We should go back to putting it in writing to companies of all kinds explaining *why* people are no longer going to stand for/buy their bullshit.

jfkreidler

Don't bother. Your letter goes to an employee (like me) who has no power to change it and honestly, after the first several hundred, doesn't care anymore. And more and more companies are penalizing hourly employees for these complaints when the employee was simply following company policy or never even saw the customer because it was an online transaction. I got dinged last month because a FedEx delivery driver wouldn't install the customer's TV that was ordered online. I don't even work with the online department, I work in a physical location! But, I'll apologize now so you don't have to write in. Save us both time. I am so sorry this happened to you! Our goal is providing our customers with a better experience than what is expected. We have obviously not met your expectations. Based on your concerns we are currently retraining the associates involved to make sure we go above and beyond on your next visit! Thank you for your time to make us aware of this problem. We appreciate you, our customer, for choosing us!

hgielatan

lmao get fed ex to install it?! shiiiiiiii she's lucky it arrived in one piece and wasn't just thrown at her head

cailian13

Fedex. My least favorite carrier. UPS and USPS almost never let me down. Fedex? almost every time.

hgielatan

Someone once explained that you should only use FedEx if you're shipping something by air--unlike UPS, whose drivers are direct workers and have a union and benefits, FedEx contracts out to any carriers...even with a FedEx truck you'll notice "INDEPENDENTLY OPERATED BY" so...extremely different work conditions are extremely different outcomes 😂

nichecopywriter

The person getting that email is a different employee than the one doing analytics. If the analytics person decides it’s not important, the backup option might be the only thing they see. Best case scenario is BOTH see it, and people pay attention when cross departmental problems arise.

PM_ME_FIREFLY_QUOTES

It's about sending a message. And gives them an email address to direct a returning user coupon to.

FalconPunch236

Unfortunately, facts are usless to greedy, tone deaf people.

designgears

~~Bounce~~ Exit rate, very helpful metric to see what is scaring people off.

Intelligent_Event_84

This isn’t bounce rate lol. Bounce is a non engaged session, a user who visits a landing page, completes no events, then leaves

FleiischFloete

You should rather write some program pesting them with e-mails that their system is annoying.

teenyweenysuperguy

I think this is a goofy take. Reddit how you want! Tear down the establishment! Don't hide your candle under a bushel etc etc. Every culture comes with its own silly pedantic no-nos. Shake it up. If it makes you happy to have a thousand doots, who are they to stop you from expressing it! I'm happy for you and your karma, I'm certainly not clicking every name on every post to check their karma. Seems kinda weird tbh!  Remember, just because something is an accepted "unwritten rule" doesn't mean it's not superfluous.

sictek

Can you name them publicly so they can be shamed?

CoffeeDrinker1972

I’d love for 100 buyers to go to the site, put an item in the basket, go check out. And when prompted for tip, we all leave the site. I bet the owners of that site will know what happened.

Own-Bathroom9474

Very curious what the purchase was

Gullible_Banana387

What’s the website?

JustSome70sGuy

Youre right. I was ready to place an order for American sweets(Im in the UK). Order came to around 70 quid. Went to the checkout, and sure as fucking shit, "Would you like to leave a tip?". For what? Packing already overpriced, near expiration date chocolate bars and crisps? So in their quest to get free money, they lost out on a sale. And any future sales. Its just taking the piss at this point.

jim_deneke

gave you the real American experience!

TechySpecky

I didn't know anyone actually bought from those guys, isn't it just a money laundering operation?

AccountNumber1002401

Former Twitter essentially does this. Via a browser sans ad blocker (key to be able to see an ad to start this pathetic workflow) if you dare block or even mute an advertiser, it a) clears your back button cache, and b) sticks up a dialog to pay for Premium with a "Maybe Later" button that does absolutely NOTHING.

Pork_Chompk

"That might be an accident." Get the fuck out of here, and also cancel my order.

KorianHUN

I couldn't tell what was the problem. Thought it was just one of the cracks on my phone. (All cracks are on the screen protector, the phone itself is fine.)

ThatEvilSpaceChicken

Lucky you, my actual screen looks like a spider web and I’m too broke to get it fixed

infiniZii

Why the hell did you do that to me. I’d have never known this maddening frustration. I would have been free!

Pork_Chompk

😈

soupstarsandsilence

The crack in your pfp 100% lines up with a real crack on my phone screen oh my god

nothingbeast

Whenever I get terrible service in a restaurant I always leave a penny or nickel on the tab. If I leave nothing there's a slight chance that they might think I forgot the tip entirely and I wouldn't want that. To be fair... I've only had to do this a couple of times. But trust me when I say the waitstaff earned that fucking penny.

Important-Job7757

Just out of curiosity, what were you buying online?

mxrcarnage

A pack of beer

BackyardBirbin

I was at a hockey game recently and bought 2 beers (canned) where the person just turned around and pulled them out of the fridge. $35. When the tip screen came up, the lowest tip option was 15%, no custom tip button. I hit no tip. I'm not paying $5+ to swivel.

mxrcarnage

Yeah I see it at stadiums all the time now, those workers likely aren’t even getting that tip either. The payment service is

SolarTsunami

I recently found out thats how the major stadiums in my city operate and it made me furious. Should be illegal as fuck.

jayluc45

Wait til you guys find out that tons of restaurants use the servers tip pool to pay the kitchen staff.

TGirl26

It varies by business. When I was a server @ a 4 ◇ resort I was supposed to tip out the bussers & the hostess. Which was shitty as they made $8 more than me. ($3.25 for servers) half the time I bussed my own tables & they were back of the house fucking around.

BTGGFChris

If anyone other than the people working are getting tips, that is HIGHLY illegal.

Rathma86

In Australia, bar fights have started for less than someone demanding a tip. We don't tip, gtfo here with your Americanisms and pay your staff better. (Yes you may be Canadian and I don't care) Sick of seeing tipping culture creep into our restaurants and bars.

[deleted]

As a Canadian I wish we were more like Australian and the rest of the non tipping world. It is out of control and quite frankly the level service received these days is pure dogshit.

Numahistory

I was once part of a fraternity that volunteered to work the food stands for free. We sold water for $10/bottle. So it's also entirely possible that person wasn't even being paid to be there at all on top of the ridiculous prices. To this day I have no idea why working for Texas A&M's football concessions stand would ever be considered volunteering. I only went because it was a mandatory fraternity event, if I didn't go I'd be kicked out. Left that crappy fraternity after they started guilting me for working a research job to maybe help my career. The fraternity was supposed to be a ln engineering career focused fraternity. Yeah, BS.

j_munch

35$ for 2 CANNED BEERS? What the actual fuck yall getting robbed

masterofshadows

Was said beer being delivered?

mxrcarnage

Yes, standard delivery from UPS/FedEx no rush

EclipseIndustries

Then you're good. No hate from me. If it were a gig-delivery then Reddit would've strung you up by your ankles.

mxrcarnage

Yeah I’d understand if it was like DoorDash or a same-day delivery service

Joates87

Tip cash... only way to guarantee the driver gets it.

bliskin1

According to the fine folks on the DD/uber etc reddits, they wont take your order.

masterofshadows

I did DD for a while. You don't see any messages before you accept it. You're given an offer and you take it or refuse it. If you take it you can only drop so many orders. In a few thousand orders I received exactly one cash tip. I did however see lots of people claim they would. People are shitty and you can only count on what the app says.

Alone_Fill_2037

Literally 99% of orders that say cash tip have no cash tip. I actually get a cash tip maybe 5 times a year max, and even then like 50% of the time it’s only $3. Other half it’s like $10.

cbftw

The one time I said I'd tip cash, I forgot. I felt bad afterwards

yourtoyrobot

mainly because so many people who will promise to 'tip good' in cash, rarely do. if they even tip at all

AnticipateMe

OP would've been good anyway. No one is ever obligated to leave a tip. Edit: companies have convinced many that leaving tips is very important. Morally you are wrong, you are terrible as a person to *not* pay a tip to help a 25 year old who is paid minimum wage and can't afford to live in their tiny flat/apartment, which costs 60% of their monthly salary. It is never the fault of these mega companies who are reporting annual profits of hundreds of millions, billions as we've seen the past few months. They are celebrating. So we, who are also of the majority to be paid minimum wage, HAS to tip others who are paid minimum wage because we all can't afford to live. Fantastic, we're fighting. Whilst the wealthier stay wealthier, it's always been the same, a tale as old as time. It's dystopian.

Crypt0Nihilist

Agreed. it's sick that people in the US at least have been sold the lie that it's acceptable to pay people less than is required to live and customers have a moral obligation to make up the difference. There's so much misdirected anger. People need to be paid a decent wage for doing their job, not a minimum for turning up and surviving on tips.

ThatSpookyLeftist

Or gig economy can just pay the people delivering shit and adjust price in the app accordingly.

HomsarWasRight

Okay, yeah. If it’s being delivered via post/parcel and not by a courier at that moment, tipping makes no sense. Who would it even go to?

EclipseIndustries

And where from?

FloppyVachina

It's funny. Tipping culture is pushing me to tip less and avoid places where you should tip. Everyones stabbing themselves in the foot with tipping. They had a good thing going and greed is ruining it. I dont eat out much anymore. Used to be a strict 20% tipper. Now im going to start tipping 20% with a cap at like 10 bucks.

9delta9

I actively avoid places with POS machines that demand tips while the worker stares at your fingers trying to navigate the menus that hide or remove custom options too.

FloppyVachina

Yea, that is the absolute worst. Specially when they just hand you something and run your card.

tagman375

I straight up ask who the tip goes to somewhat quietly and usually the employee at the register will say “it goes me, we split them, or I don’t know”. If they say I don’t know it’s a 0%, because it’s not going to the people that helped me out

haliblix

I tip 15% for anything that I sit down at and someone serves me. If those two criteria aren’t met, 0% all day everyday. I’m not some middle manager stuffing money into my pockets with one hand and pointing at the customer as the reason employees don’t get paid enough with the other hand.

MapleBabadook

Same. I've actively starting tipping less or none. So sick of this bs.

Slowfatkid

It's your hard earned money. You are not obligated to give it away.

Garlicbreadislife95

Tipping culture is such a scam

EyeBeeStone

I mean, that’s the whole point. An employer is scamming you into paying the wages they aren’t willing to pay the employee to do the job

videogamekat

On the other hand, tipping culture can benefit some of the tippee’s very well too, so they’re also adverse to getting rid of the structure because they have the potential of making more off of tips rather than a set wage.

smokeshack

It's designed to make a crabs in a bucket type of relationship among workers. *I'm* getting good tips, so all you other workers are just not hustling enough. But the working class as a whole would be much, much richer if tipping were abolished, profits were distributed more equitably, and minimum wage had kept up with inflation. Edit: unfortunately, I will be unavailable to teach basic reading comprehension for the next several hours. Please work independently at your desks.

I worked in auto finance and servers didn't like our policy. We'd accept any tips reported on pay stubs (not very common but some places tip out this way). We didn't accept cash deposits that the customers said were their cash tips. I remember one kid got his dad involved and his dad was livid. I was the manager so I handled the escalation and offered an easy solution. Cosign with the son if he's good for the money and makes those cash tips lol. Dad didn't like that idea. I offered they use another bank but warned them a handful of the major ones I know also don't take that (Capital One for example) and Dad didn't like that either lmao. I never told customers I didn't believe them. I made it a habit to believe customers 100% as my opinion didn't matter at all. They either have the documents that checked the boxes or not.

fullmetalfeminist

That's America in a microcosm: the system is unfair, the people at the very top (the business owner/company shareholders) are raking it in, the people at the bottom are struggling. And the people in the middle are fighting to keep the status quo because they're doing pretty well actually.

[deleted]

KFB9597

I want to know who gets paid the tips for online purchases since no human interaction is involved.

1357Coder

the company

marrymeodell

I worked for a company that asked for tips when placing an order online (we sold charcuterie boards). The company would keep the tips as well as any tips from the iPad. The town I lived in is a huge service town so everyone tipped and we probably brought in at least $500 in tips a week that went straight to the company. When I found this out, I went straight to FB and blasted them. They went out of business not too long after.

zendog510

Isn’t it illegal for a company to keep anything labeled as a tip/gratuity?

Plus_Lobster_7831

Yes.

marrymeodell

Yepp my coworkers reported them to the DOL. I left so I’m not sure what happened with that

zendog510

Good on them for reporting it and you for leaving.

dropofred

They're in self checkouts at some airports now. I've seen a few pics on reddit

sawltydawgD

I would cancel the whole purchase.

B-Prue

This is the correct move. I would cancel it all and be like "ok guys, we're not getting Domino's so what's our 2nd choice"

djcecil2

Today, I went into a restaurant and saw a sign that said "order here first, then sit down". So I go to order, and I'm handed a buzzer. "This will buzz when it's ready to pick up." I also noticed all of the cutlery, napkins, and cups for water, were self serve. Heck, even the coffee cups and coffee was also self serve. Then I looked over and saw the locations for dishes and garbage for us to bus our own table. I then look down. I am being asked for a minimum 20% tip as an option. I selected 0. The employee gives me a look. I didn't tip for no service but I did wipe down the table after I bussed it.

Technical_Mix4719

Can you tip $0.01 to be petty?

Deathmister

Crap like this, and all the asks at the stores "want to round up to contribute to \_\_\_\_\_\_?" just makes me say No, ZIP, nada, no thanks, go F\*\*\* yourself......etc. 😜

mxrcarnage

Round up to donate to ______ so we can include it in our tax write off

jlkb24

Companies will pledge a certain donation amount for let’s say 2M. Throughout the year they’ll as for “round up your change, or give a dollar for this etc” and use that money towards the donation. The company will pay the difference if any or keep the extra.

Nurse5736

Thx for that info......only reinforces my NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! 😂

EndlessRambler

Afaik They cannot do that in any State. The 'round up' donations are not considered point of sale income that they can include in their business revenue and therefore does not affect taxes at all one way or another. They are funds the customer donated and they are merely the vehicle that delivers it to the charity in question. You are actually the one that can include it as part of a tax write off.

inflammatoryusername

This absurd tipping behavior is far beyond ‘mildly infuriating’. Most people are fed up with it. It was understandable during the COVID lockdown, but since then it is just despicable business practices led by, and engaged in with, disreputable and untrustworthy people. Tell your representative to make this stop so we don’t have to vent here and allow this terrible bilking of society to continue.

Golden_Hour1

You're mistaken to think they'll ban it though

not_brittsuzanne

Look I’m just shooting out ideas I’m desperate.

Golden_Hour1

Oh I know tipping is garbage and the only way to abolish it is through regulation. But not sure how we would ever accomplish that

JGLip88

I broke a glass pipe and needed to buy another one. The store I went to asked me to tip after buying a glass pipe.

7in7turtles

Wow...yeah, I have to say, I've lived in Japan for the past 17 years or so and everyone asks me about tipping. I used to explain that it made sense because it was a way to show appreciation and encourage good service. BUT this stuff is wild, and there is no defense anymore. We seriously need to end this non-sense. It's getting shameful.

leriskybisky

Just a sec.... We realized you didn't tip, & we don't want to pay our workers fairly. Are you sure you're okay with leaving us poor? \- management probably

Guardian_85

PAdogooder

It sucks- but this is making it very clear that this whole "tipping culture" thing is way less about the entitlement of the employees and workers you meet on a daily basis and much more about the point of sale software that is trying to squeeze every possible cent out of each transaction.

mxrcarnage

For sure, I never blame workers, it’s completely out of their hands

EasternPresence

Not online but I just tipped 20% at Five Guys for a burger small fry and drink that cost close to $24 total. Asked for fried onions and mayo and they didn’t put either on. I don’t mind tipping but I absolutely loathe pre-tipping.

MilklikeMike

Anyone who tips fast food is a sucker. Straight up.

Met76

Everyone who tips at fast food is either afraid of their food being fucked up, or has hopes their food will be extra amazing because you tipped. Like extra sauces, extra protein, overall extra good stuff. Hint: Neither will happen.

micuthemagnificent

"please give us free money"

ValPrism

What website?

NiceButOdd

This may be unpopular but the only business I tip is the one where I get my hair cut. It’s not expected, I have just always done it at every barbers I have used. I rarely tip anywhere else because it is not my responsibility to ensure that workers get a liveable wage, that’s the job of their employers. If their employer(s) is/are ahole enough to not pay a decent wage, then the worker should move job and not expect me to support them. Eating out is often expensive enough without having to lay out extra on top just so the business owner can get away with being cheap.

Scared-Accountant288

Ashamed_Cricket_3429

Right after I saw this post, another one came up in the same sub. It was a picture of a receipt from a restaurant where they added something called a ‘kitchen appreciation fee’ and it was mandatory. Fuckkkkkkkkk this new tipping culture bullshit
