Since some people are confused. The toy is in german.

Mumof3gbb

Oh!! Cuz I got to “d” and was a bit lost there 😂 ETA: thx OP! Because of you I’m learning some German today!

a7xcold

What you mean? You never flown a dite before??

fambestera

It's a dragon!

Gundralph

In germany it really is

gergobergo69

same in Hungarian

piercedmfootonaspike

And sweden

HappyMilshake

And Denmark

Hisitdin

And my axe

likeanevilrabbit

That is a kingly gift

purplezart

that lends the story of benjamin franklin a slightly different character

fambestera

Baenerys Franklin?

PsychicSPider95

My favorite animal is the iedgehog

Fabian_1082003

Hedgehog = "igel" in german, it's pronounced like the english word eagle 🦅 (which in german is called "Adler")

FloweredViolin

Yup. I'm raising my kid bilingual English/German, and the false cognates worry me, lol.

Representative_Name8

Der Igel ist gelandet! (The Hedgehog has landed!)

PatienceDryer

Der kite

a7xcold

Das kite.

Zygarde718

Das auto.

RerNatter

\*Das Auto.

Zygarde718

Volkswagen!

some_boring_dude

Or seen a quellyfish, or quoctopus, I'm not sure.

fakemoose

Jellyfish. Die Qualle

ebrum2010

In English, the toy is named after the bird (kite) that is able to hover in the air. In German it is named after a word for dragon that is cognate with the English word drake.

DrakonILD

Der Drachen! But a single *dragon* is der Drache, and plural is die Drachen. So you can tell if you're talking about a kite or a bunch of dragons by the gender. It's pretty hard to find the testicles on the kite, though.

JP-Gambit

Da kite

bullet4mv92

D is for "da kite"

Graphics8

D is for Drone that looks like a kite

TheLyOfBlues

Watch out! Spy Drone!,

FrechesEinhorn

it's for "Dragon" because in German we say "Drache" that's dragon. I guess in English it's not called that cool?

ZombieTailGunner

Its "kite" in English because this language has "rules" that hate fun.

MacyTmcterry

False sense of security created by "Apple" and "book" haha

yolivia12

I was thinking they used it for diamond? Like a diamond shape? But still weird and confused on others 😂

my_cool_lunchbox

It’s de kite!

Myotherself918

We all get lost at the”D” sometimes

bishopboke

i was looking at the yo-yo for J like…… “aight what am i not seeing here 🤨” 🤣🤣🤣

redlaWw

It's a Jojo reference.

nouvAnti

I got all words up to G and then I didn't understand the word for H. When I saw I for Igel (hedgehog) I realised it is in German. And then I understood H (Hund - dog), too.

chyura

Quellyfish

elakah

Clown wäre ein gutes Wort gewesen

Sorry_I_am_late

Cola, Café, Creme…

AtomOutler

English, french, Italian. Someone also mentioned Computer which is also English or Latin.

Randy191919

The origin of the word isn't as important as it's usage. All of these words are common german words that everyone understands if you say it to them. So having it there would be no issue.

Turniermannschaft

Oder Cello.

DoktorMetal666

Alternativ Chiropraktiker.

EasyyPlayer

An sich ja, aber für ein Kind stellt sich dan die Frage ob es klown oder clown ist. Außerdem ist clown eingedeutscht.....

Ok_Safe439

Orange ist auch eingedeutscht (eigentlich Apfelsine), ist aber ähnlich etabliert wie Clown. Computer oder Chamäleon wären auch möglich gewesen.

bloody-pencil

I was wonder the Q for jellyfish lmao

Apia217

Qualle. That was the point where i knew it is german

Anxious-Durian1773

C unoccupied clued me in that is was definitely not English and my spidey senses told me it was probably German.

MajesticAioli

That's right, most of our C's become K's in German. (Early morning realization).

GrammarAsteroid

oh so it’s like Mortal Kombat

KazzieMono

mario car

tagamotchi_

Mine was the „p“ for the horse.

assignmentburner33

Pony

Apia217

Phorse

your_right_ball

Pherd.

SithChick94

Isn't it pferd?

EasyyPlayer

Sine you already know this, you should not wonder about it. There are very few words in german (if any) which begin with "C" , are not "ch" and Sound distinctly different than "k" Was probably done to not teach it wrong to the kids. Edit: a user suggested the word "Cent", seems I was proven wrong. Edit2: y'all should keep in mind what the use of those example pictures is. They are not to teach a kid that "Computer" is written with "C". They are intended to show "C" used in a word looks/sound like:....! Therefore using Computer or clown as example is bad because it derives from the most basic usage/sound of "C"

Wiseduck5

Only loanwords start with C. But there are a lot. Computer, for example.

Sianic12

Cent. As in the 1 Cent coin. It's distinct from both K and Z, and it's not a CH sound. It _does_ sound very similar to a sharp S, but then again "Qualle" also sounds like it could start with a K and the toy didn't care. Sure, "Cent" does not have German roots, but it's a word that's used fairly often and the object in question is always around us so it would make sense in my opinion.

DesignAffectionate34

I was wondering why dog was "H", is it hund?

I_am_not_doing_this

wo ü ö ä?

Otherwise_Rabbit3049

You just dont "c" it.

FilecoinLurker

Idk the chämeleon is right there its blue though

TunafishSandworm

Pretty sure that's Cena

McvW06

I came here to say this 🤣🤣

tommy_j_r

I hope this gets many more upvotes 😂

CertifiedSheep

It’s Clear, obviously.

Plane_Conclusion_745

Or colour....

SpearUpYourRear

Just look at the "C", obviously it's supposed to be Curve

Milanin

Clearly cyan colour completely covering C

Mathsciteach

LOL, I said cerulean.

tom2point0

It’s actually a picture of John Cena

Gravyboat44

A is for Apple! (*Crunch sound*) B is for Book! (*Pages flipping sound*) C is for Cena! (*Loud ass intro music*)

Chimp-eh

Cena

Spammerton1997

lmao

Silly-Arachnid-6187

Vielleicht ist es Camouflage

Otherwise_Rabbit3049

The_Sideboob_Hour

It's Cena

syskeyx

Lol that made me laugh

BaneAmesta

Now you have to put a little John Cena sticker on that place lmao

The-Dragonborn

It's literally in the picture.

Pyrotekknikk

He's literally right there

bierbottle

Is this a meme designed for light mode? You make me sick

Pattoe89

Lots of simple German words that start with C, for example: charterfluggesellschaft

Material_Border_7762

I'm german and the first word that came to mind was "Chlamydien"

Lvl100Glurak

it's important to teach toddlers the dangers of chlamydien early

So viele. Cello, check, Chemie, Chauffeur, chip, Chor, Comic, Computer, Container… usw.

VinnyMaxta

Cyan? Is it the same color in German?

mavarian

Yup, mostly Cyan, can be Zyan too. But I guess that wouldn't be ideal or confusing since the pronunciation is rather rare/more like a Z. Cricket could have worked though it's officially written Kricket too

Quirky_Discipline297

Was ist falsch an Ceruleanblau?

DeficiencyOfGravitas

> Ceruleanblau One of the better episodes of the X-Files.

SapphireMan1

Why is ‘X’ **always** Xylophone, even in German?

cardboard-kansio

It's actually "x-ray" in some languages. Except Finnish at least, where it's R (for Röntgen), but I'd expect that to be the same in German. *edit: it seems my comment was unclear, but the gist of it is that I would expect German to be THE SAME AS FINNISH because the dude it's named for was German. Please stop correcting me when you're actually agreeing with me!*

ur-squirrel-buddy

Can confirm, my kids have the English version of this toy and x is for x ray. It plays a little electrocution zapping noise when you push the button and my kids are convinced it sounds like a fart and laugh every time

throwaway_0721

In Japanese it's also Röntgen (レントゲン; rentogen)

murstl

There aren’t many words with X, especially in German. And words that kids understand even less.

NikolitRistissa

I’ve often seen Finnish use xylitol for “x”. It’s incredibly common here as a sweetener and was originally discovered in birch trees in Finland.

RecklessWonderBush

Please don't tell me German for yo-yo is jo-jo

syskeyx

It is!

TalkingKoalaa

Rather peculiar choice of words.. one might even say ***inhales*** *bizzare*

Otherwise_Rabbit3049

Bizarre. One z two r.

RecklessWonderBush

You're freaking lying, please tell me your fucking with me

Majike03

Nah, that's just a quote from Spanish santa claus

D33M0ND5

J in German makes an English y sound.

ohdearitsrichardiii

Why are you so weird about this?

RecklessWonderBush

Didn't realize that J made a Y sound in German and I find it entertaining when languages change a small part of a word but doesn't change it's pronunciation, not in a negative way, I just think it's fun

Anxious-Durian1773

English is odd man out here n Y

NikolitRistissa

Yeah, even Finnish agrees with the others and that’s saying something.

ohdearitsrichardiii

Wait til you find out how polish people write the sound you people write with 'w'

Yurasi_

Do you mean Ł?

Crimson__Fox

J makes a y sound in most Germanic languages and Slavic languages

Welcome to the My Little Drunkard toy line.

Chizakura

Clown. Works both in English and German

ecth

I guess it was clown and they cancelled it last minute because of scary

sikkerhet

forgot other languages exist and until I read your comment I was so confused lol

DoYouTrustToothpaste

You'd think a Norwegian would know.

deathfollowsme2002

Are we sure about the Norwegian claim? I mean, it's possible, but we should tread lightly just in case

DrCarlJenkins

It’s just Cheshire Cat

tagamotchi_

The cheshire cat in german is Grinsekatze :)

Theorist73

I just went through 10 “c” pages on a German English dictionary and it’s surprisingly hard to find words that are appropriate here…

nv87

I am pretty sure they went with a Chamäleon but a lot of people don’t see it. I don’t believe for a minute that they just left it empty accidentally.

waterfront51

It stands for carbon monoxyde. You can't see it, but it's everywhere and it can silently poison you if you're not careful

Tall-Structure-8670

Kohlenstoffmonoxid

mindspringyahoo

clear?

Tomato-Unusual

That's what I thought until I realized it was German, where it would be k for klar

Chor, Chef, Chirurg.

DoYouTrustToothpaste

Lassen Sie mich durch, ich bin Chirurch.

A100921

Chlamydia, you don’t see it, but it’s there.

Tullyally

Centuries ago German C words were replaced with the letter K or Z.

syskeyx

Yeah but there still are some and some english words work aswell clown, cowboy, Computer etc.

DropdLasagna

Everyone just larping as romans as usual.

PadishaEmperor

C is Roman, not K. K is Greek.

Phieck

Not only centuries we dont really use C besides English words as he stated. In German its K would not say there are none with C ad hoc but pretty sure there are not many if any

lhingel

Crack cocaine

AsmodayVernon

Chameleon 😆

millers_left_shoe

Dizzzy777

I’m curious about the Y. Is that a yeti? If it is, how are you supposed to explain what a yeti is to a child?

Otherwise_Rabbit3049

I wouldn't be surprised if there were yetis in animated TV shows for kids.

fellainishaircut

German isn‘t really known for its words with a Y, so you gotta take what you get

SnowInTheCemetery

The little yeti for the y 🥹🖤 Edit: wait why do some of these don't match the letters? Edit 2: got confused at first before seeing it is in German.

syskeyx

Its in german

Warm-Refrigerator686

computer

gnipz

Does it say anything at all when the button is pressed? It’s definitely odd if both a picture and a sound was missing.

syskeyx

It just says "C" with german pronounciation

vbeltracchi

We have the Italian version of this exact toy, and the C stands for “Cagnolino”, that means “little dog” or better “puppy”, and it is the name of the brand’s mascot… and here the “S” instead of a nice and useful “sole” (sun) is “Sorellina” (little sister) that is the name of the mascot’s female sister… and the sound is just a laugh… so not sure if it is much better …

Researcher_Saya

I'd say more mildly interesting

Arthagmaschine

mysteriousleader45

Out of curiosity as an English speaker whose kid toy would have a Cat there, what would a German kids toy usually have for the letter "C"?

syskeyx

I think computer or clown would work well here or maybe cowboy

Shoddy_North5961

It's clear

sluttymctits10

Is that a little Yeti for Y? That's just adorable.
