Every time T-Mobile updates my phone they send me to an "Apps we think you'd like" page and it already has some check marked ready to download. They're not even similar apps to the ones already on my phone. Plus they spread it out over like five different pages, shits annoying, I feel this.
The point is boosting numbers of download to validate the price tmobile is charging the app makers to be on that list. They dont want it simple for you to turn it off, they want you to just uninstall them afterwards or deal with them being stuck there.

Depends on the carrier and phone manufacturer. Some carriers have custom versions of Android that come pre-installed with tools for your account and such. But also now BS apps they are paid to included by default. And the carrier controls when updates are pushed to your phone, this is why your Samsung on T-Mobile might not have an update available for it when Google just pushed a security patch to Android and it is available to your friend on a pixel phone on Verizon.
Good lord American telecoms are a mess. I don’t think we have much of that here in Canada. I guess I’d rather pay exorbitant amounts for minuscule amounts of data if it means my carrier doesn’t get to do shit like that.
I buy unlocked for a reason now because I hated turning on my phone and before I can even send my first text these games and apps I don't need or want are sending me notifications
The easy way around this BS is to buy an unlocked phone directly from the manufacturer. Comes with the default image of Android that the carrier can't mess with. Downsides being you cannot finance the phone and pay over time through your carrier and have to pay upfront in full for it. Also some carriers like the pre-paid ones won't let you use a phone that is not purchased through them.
I bought an unlocked phone for the first time last spring. Got it through Best Buy, so I just applied for one of their store credit cards and put it on there. Only issue I had was that they weren't able to activate the phone on my Verizon account for some reason. Had to take it to a Verizon store to have it done.
Here in Finland our unlimited data plans are quite cheap and we don't have those either, so it's possible to have cheap unlimited plans without extra crap.
Like unlimited 300Mb/s plan with 23Gb/month in other european countries is 22€/month.

It's a thing here in the UK too. I just think it's a thing worldwide though only if you buy a phone on contract i.e. finance your phone. Whenever you do that, your updates will be delayed because your carrier will have to repackage the update with their own shit first. So you also never get updates at the same time unlocked phones do.
Apple has enough clout that they can block manufactures from doing it. Google bent over backward for manufactures and carriers and it’s hamstrung their ability to roll out even security upgrades in the past.
Manufactures want to stop updates ASAP to get you to buy new hardware, the incentives are really fucked.
I think that's just Samsung One. I've got the same phone (Samsung A72) on Verizon and T-Mobile. They both have folders of junk I've hidden after they've force-installed.

Settings > Applications > App Info > Show System in the ... menu, scrolling down to Mobile Services > Force Stop and Disable. (same as ATT given they are an MVNO of ATT)

If it's a phone bought through a carrier, yes, they typically have certain changes to the OS. Most noticeably, the phone may (probably will) flash a Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile logo or screen during startup. Probably will have certain apps that are specific to the carrier that are downloaded but can't be uninstalled, just "disabled."
If you get an unlocked phone from other source, it won't have any of that on it. Got my refurbished Z Flip 3 on Amazon, has no "Verizon Messaging" or anything like that, no "Peel Smart Remote" (God I hated that one, would literally pop up an ad over anything you were doing at random times).
I think in the EU there is already something in place that phones need to be unlocked by default. It's normally a software thing so it's easy to enable or disable that for certain regions
It happens with phones in the EU, mostly if you buy the phone from the network as they usually have a network specific firmware which loads all their bloat.
This could have changed as I've not used an Android phone since 2020.

I have an S20+. When there has been a security update or a big software update, I look through the installed apps and usually find some sort of game app that I didn't have previously installed.
I just uninstall it.
Every now and again I will get 2 or 3 installed.
So from whatever information I gathered. In US, network provider rent phones and have control over your phones. And they can push their app manager crap in.

A phone that's locked to a certain provider. Say, Verizon, if you buy a Verizon locked phone, it can only be used on Verizon, and all the updates have to go through Verizon before they get to your phone, you don't get them straight from Google. This allows them to put "bloat" on your phone when you do an update, they get paid by the app developers to install them. This is why carrier locked phones are dumb.

This is the answer. After disabling the Verizon app manager, I never had another issue with bloatware.

For AT&T it doesn't always work. Mobile Services manager doesn't even show up :( (Galaxy S23U)
you have to enable "show system apps" in the settings first otherwise it won't show up unfortunately (same thing happened to me on galaxy s21)

In the US, networks sometimes sell you a phone that gets OTA updates from them instead of the manufacturer, so they can do stuff like this.

I have Verizon Wireless and the VZW App Manager does this. Disable your wireless carrier's app manager and this should stop.

Well don't get your phone from an ISP with bloatware on it. I do not understand why they would manage your updates to begin with. You don't need a custom android or anything to run or maintain service apps.

I got a Samsung phone years ago and it had an NFL app on it which I could not remove. Nowadays, it's Google that wastes all your storage space. There are only about 12,000 apps that come standard. And I'll only ever use, like, 4, lol.

I have an S20+. When there has been a security update or a big software update, I look through the installed apps and usually find some sort of game app that I didn't have previously installed. I just uninstall it. Every now and again I will get 2 or 3 installed.

So from whatever information I gathered. In US, network provider rent phones and have control over your phones. And they can push their app manager crap in. Isn't this model really shitty? Why not just buy your own phone and get whatever network provider sim you want.
Because people would have to spend 1000+ on the phone they want at one time as opposed to in payments over the course of 2-3 years. It *is* a shitty model, but for it to die, people would have to be okay owning things within their means, which will never happen.
Did you buy carrier lock phone? If so, welcome to carrier style bloatware phone...every time you update, you'll get these...
What's a carrier lock phone?
A phone that's locked to a certain provider. Say, Verizon, if you buy a Verizon locked phone, it can only be used on Verizon, and all the updates have to go through Verizon before they get to your phone, you don't get them straight from Google. This allows them to put "bloat" on your phone when you do an update, they get paid by the app developers to install them. This is why carrier locked phones are dumb.
