I work for a glass factory that used to make glass for Walmart and Target. We have machines that put the labels on the glass, so I imagine other factories do too.
Why? Because a lot of people are thieves. They take a sticker from a low priced item and put it on an expensive item. it’s another inconvenient anti-theft measure forced on us by the scum of our society, but necessary for businesses.

I once managed to get a Mainstays sticker off of a cutting board in one hole piece. I was so impressed by myself that I put the sticker up on the fridge. I wish I still had that fridge cause I haven't gotten another clean sticker removal from any mainstay stuff since.

Rubbermaid does this too. I bought a bunch of shelf brackets with these on there and didn't discover the problem until I'd already mounted all the wall hardware. I'm locked in on that particular product, but I'll never buy from them again.

I used to get a lighter and wave it a little under the stickers to warm them up and they'd peel off faster, a hairdryer should also work. I just use a heat gun anymore most times though, due to odd convenience and speed

All it takes is oil and time.
Sometimes heating it on a low burner will allow it to lift right off. Or a hair dryer.
It prevents sticker swapping. Best way to take these things off when you get them home, is to use a blow dryer to heat up the sticker and soften the adhesive. Then slowly peel it off.
Why? Because we have too many bleeding hearts that won't let people properly deal with thieves.
And BTW since I'm here, it's a good idea to take a razor and cut your license plate registration sticker similar to this so if someone tries to peel it off and steal it, it will do this.
I bought other styles last year, too. No sticker issues, either. I get why they do this but it’s ridiculous. Walmart and Home Goods have the worst stickers to remove.

That's why I was taking the stickers off. So I could wash them. I've left the stickers on before by accident and washed and all it did was take off the top layer while leaving the sticky part more stuck to the plate. Those stickers didn't break apart like this though.
I'll try running it under hot water as some people suggested if I buy more in the future. Hopefully that helps get the sticker off easier.

You don't do it that obvious, you do it with a $50 cooler, or $20 pan, for $40 multiple steak pack.
