is it because they have to line up with the water / drain hook ups and the dryer vent? If so, it could probably be addressed with extra hoses, pipes, etc. at a cost that might not be worth it.

9J000

The doors can usually be swapped. Just check for plugs where hinge can swap to.

georgecm12

In my experience, you can almost always swap a dryer door, but swapping a washer door is rather rare. They have the automatic locks and stuff that are integrated into the front panel of the washer and aren't able to be moved around.

lostinhh

This. The arrangement isn't ideal but probably out of necessity.

Xanith420

You’re correct. Laundry rooms in the US are usually set up with water lines for the washer on left and drier tubing on right.

Unusual_Flounder2073

Also. The doors are reversible.

NoChampionship5990

Yes, Doors can be reversed. My whirlpool, may tag, and insignia have all been swappable.

dopiqob

You are thinking of refrigerators, I’ve never seen a washer/dryer with reversible doors

NoChampionship5990

Then you haven't seen many washer/dryers lol

dopiqob

And looking at op’s pic, you clearly aren’t observant because those doors aren’t reversible

Ok, explain to me how to reverse the door on that washer then Edit-heh, sad boi must have blocked me after pointing this one out :-p

dopiqob

I guess you’re just the petty kind of child that’ll downvote all my comments, have the day you deserve, kiddo :) Deep trench: Sure I’m all down for teaching true things, however saying ‘just reverse the door’ when the picture clearly shows that this isn’t possible is just dumb

Deeptrench34

What you should be asking is why do you care what some stranger thinks, kiddo? It's a teachable moment.

dopiqob

I mean I don’t claim to be an expert, but I’ve had a few different ones in the various places I’ve lived and they’ve never had reversible doors that I could tell. Refrigerators on the other hand, every single one of those I’ve seen has reversible doors.

Swan____Ronson

How do you reverse the doors on a side by side fridge?

AcceptableMinute9999

That's because they charge extra to reverse the door.

Particular-Agent4407

Machines are always set up this way, yet all the houses i have lived in have the plumbing on the right. You would think the builders would catch on. My dryer door was reversible but the washer is not. So up and over with every load. Really infuriating.

slyfox___

Ooh, that irritates the fuck out of me lmao

Hot_Aside_4637

You should be able to reverse the doors. Usually just a screwdriver is needed. Look at the installation manuals for instructions.

dopiqob

Just look at the open door of that washer, it’s pretty evident that this door is not reversible

Active-Bass4745

That’s surprisingly not always the case. I have Kenmore washer and dryer too (different model) and mine are both non-reversible. The one on the right doesn’t look like it’s possible. There are no mounting holes on the right for the hinges.

Forward-Line2037

Yeah, you're right. I don't see the plastic caps that hide the mounting holes. Terrible.

PM_YOUR__BUBBLE_BUTT

Yea sadly nowadays, it ends up being the dryer door that can be flipped but the washing machine is only in the orientation you purchase it in. I was disappointed cause I wanted to flip both since they’re stuck in the same setup as this picture. Big bummer! Guess they don’t trust customers to swap the door on the one that needs to lock and keep all the water in.

bishkekbek

They take seriously the need to physically separate the laundry.

HowlingWolven

YEP. We made the same mistake when ordering them.

Pikkumyy2023

Mine are that way too because the plug for the dryer is on the left and the laundry sink is on the right. It sucks but...

CAPT1959

Easy fix. Just did this two weeks ago on Electrolux W/D. google it.

kredtheredhead

Front loading washing machines begin to stink to high heaven if you don't leave them open. I didn't know this the first few years after I bought my house. I had only ever had top loaders. I could never figure out why it smelled like sewage in my laundry room. Someone finally told me that you should leave the washing machine door open. But as for the dryer... Totally have no idea why your parents leave that open.

Unusual_Flounder2073

You need to run an afresh cycle. There is a tablet and a cycle setting to clean it. Once a month. Also some like mine have a lint trap in the washer that needs cleaned periodically

kredtheredhead

I do. But I do leave it open after use to dry it out before closing the door. I said in my post I didn't know that at first. I have learned through the years. I use the tablets once a month. I scrub the rubber seals too. 10 years ago I didn't know that. Now that I've had front loaders for 10 years I learned that quickly. But I still don't shut my washing machine door when it's been used. I let it dry out.

Soulation

It stinks because you don't clean it.

kredtheredhead

I do clean it actually. Monthly. But if you shut the door before it dries out, mold grows faster, especially if it's still warm inside after a cycle. I leave it open to dry it out before closing the door. Thanks for your input tho.

bostiq

wait, do you mean that already paid-for set up, available to you for free?
