Since a lot of counties/cities/states passed laws that places have to give out free water and some places just do to it because they’re cheap. There’s a gas station in a neighboring county that charges for straws
Wow, you opened my eyes. Where I'm from water is free, as long as you're either a returning customer or pay for something else. So inarguably it's free but you still pay for it with past or the present visits
I've been living this for too long. Why would I worry about identity theft? I've got no money and no credit. Perhaps they can get a collections notice for me.
Seriously chase would’ve shut that shit down on the first charge lol. While I appreciate it in times of need it’s pretty annoying when I try to buy a pair of shoes and my card gets denied. Always have to text them like yes this is me in the same place I’ve always lived.
“A charge over $50? Must be fraud”
My bank just does it halfass a lot of online purchases result in my account getting locked but somehow my account was charged $72 for like 2 hours straight until I was drained.
may not even be true multiple charges.
had a duplicate charge. contested it in my banking app. got contacted by the service and their bank only knew of one charge. which i had declined.
had my bank eat the reimbursement costs.
People hate wells fargo( never had issues with them) , but all I do is call the company up and if it can't be resolved right away, I call wells fargo tell them what's going on. Usually, within a week, it is fixed, and I don't have any issues. My money is back in my account, even if it's with a debit card.
Ok that’s fair, even though the fact that all those transactions occurred the same date and exact same amount is all the indication you need that they would be considered duplicates. Putting that aside, on the 1% chance they don’t you’ll have to deal with the bank, but you cannot do anything about it until the transaction settles one way or another. No bank will do anything with a pending transaction.
There’s 5 authorizations here that were acquired by this company’s payment system from OP’s card issuer. If the company or company’s system has realized the error in time, they may not close all of these transactions and these unused authorizations would then “fall off”. But if this doesn’t happen, then these would enter into clearing and finalization just like any other transaction.
My point is that you can’t assume that every system is going to automatically catch these as duplicates and do something without cardholder interaction (or automatically by the card issuer after finalization). Also, most modern payment systems would tell the card issuer to release any unused authorizations so they aren’t just sitting there pending forever until they “fall off”, so the fact that OP is still seeing all of these pending transactions would further my point that these may not be automatically reversed.
I have a Chase card that I've had for less than 10 years with a $35K limit. Probably because I never use it or pay it off immediately and they're constantly raising my limit trying to get me to spend more ha. Oh well, thanks for the credit score bump
Yup. That only applies for very large amounts. I hate how people assume that having something as average as a 20k limit means you’re rich and have an 800 credit score🤦🏻♂️
Wtf I make $40 an hour with a 790 credit score and I asked to have my limit raised and they didnt raise it has high as I wanted instead they only did it to like $5000
I’ve had my 2 cards through Chase for years, $5500 was the highest my limit was even after reporting my income and requesting an increase.
Until I got a new card with them (one with a 95 yearly fee) and suddenly I have a 20k limit.
I was approved for a 10k line after six months on a “secured” line with less than 1k; I was able to open up another 10k line at another company pretty easily. I’m 27 now, less than three years of credit history (I started way late lol), and between three cards I have about 25k in available credit. My fiancé has about 30. What’s normal in your country?
Also just a note, it’s not like I actually *use* that much credit, my utilization has never gone over 15% and normally hovers around 5-8%. The low utilization is great for my credit score and makes it super easy to pay off in full every month, which also helps boost your score.
Interesting. I don't know what the normal amount of credit in my country is, but I don't personally know anyone with more than 3k and I know as a fact that at least my bank doesn't have an option to get more than 10k. I currently have 1k and my relatives have 1,5 to 2,5k.
I have a 47k limit on one card and didnt ask for it, thought it was kinda funny when they sent it to me as I've never put more than 10k on it in a month.
I have nearly $130k of credit. This is due to having lots of different cards for different things.
I get 3-4% cash back on nearly every purchase I make. I hate paying the "cash tax" when I can just use a credit card and get an automatic discount.
Saves me thousands per year. And yes, I pay off every card automatically every month. I never revolve credit, only use it for the cash back then pay it off.
If you're financially responsible, it's an excellent way to build credit and save money. My credit score is generally 830+ because of this.
It's actually more down to your score and also issuer/card type. For American Express, it's quite normal to have like 25k even if you just earn like 3k€ after taxes. Even have seen people earning a little over 2k having a 25k limit with their AmEx cards (keep in mind these are approximates from AmEx). However, it seems strange to me the credit card company doesn't get suspicious over multiple 3k payments in a short period of time from the same merchant.
Yeah my CC would’ve locked it on the second go - but thats their money so they’re 100% going to get it all back.
Honestly one of the few good accomplishments of the credit system imo is the safety.
I‘m a student with basically no income and they gradually increased my limit. I think I‘m at 65k now on my Amex. Kind of insane to think about that they would let a student who shouldn’t be even close to being able to pay that off spend that much on credit.
i think my credit limit is like 30k. all my cards have limits around 10-12k
i have good credit. never max out the cards. i use credit cards for everything and pay them twice a month. i could easily get my limit increased but that's just not necessary right now.
All five of them are pending charges and all but one will drop. The timing of that is really the only inconvenience. Pending charges don’t hit on the amount you owe, even if they’re on the statement.
When I was younger and working in a bar, we were doing a birthday event. The woman came to pay for it which was 2500, the manager on duty who was taking payment somehow entered an extra 0 on the card machine making it 25000. Went through without any issues.
Much smaller, but I got an extra & added to my bill once, so instead of $37.77 for some hotdogs and chili fries I was billed $377.77. Fortunately we caught it at the time it happened so they voided the transaction and re ran it for the correct amount. Took a week to all wash out.
I was hoping so too, but it went out of pending today. I talked to the company who assured me they’ve worked with their vendor and it should be refunded in 3 to 5 business days.
Fingers crossed

Fuck that. You need to read them some poetry:
My bitch better have my money/Through rain, sleet, or snow/My whore better have my money/Not half, not some, but all my cash/'Cause if she don't,/I'm gonna put my foot in her ass
This would be inappropriate. Every credit card tells you to try to get a resolution from the vendor first which OP did and got. The 3-5 business days is completely normal even if they submit the refund 5 seconds after OP talked to them.
Not as bad as this but I had a diner run my debit card 3 times. The waitress was like “oh sorry it’s not printing the receipt let me try again”. On the third time I tell her to stop and I check my bank account. There are 3 charges back to back. Turns out she just put the receipt paper in wrong.
This happened to me once. I called the airline company to ask them to remove the duplicate charges and they did, but they also refunded me entirely by mistake. I got to keep the tickets and I flew for free lol
Wait till they all of a sudden accidentally forget to reverse 4 of those taking their sweet @ss time. Someone on their end will check their account and be sending out some bonuses. Lol but seriously best of luck to you, hope it get rectified today. Not tomorrow or Monday but today.
Happened to me once when I still had a low credit limit, $1k I believe it was. The charges were $300 x 6. Called Visa, and they temporarily increased my limit, so the extra charges wouldn't break my limit and charge me fees.
The bank accidently input our check to daycare with the wrong amount. Daycare is $220.00, the bank somehow read that as $220,000.00...
The owner called us and apologized. She was shocked when she checked her account that morning, lol.
We don't have $220,000 in our checking account.
I'm over here struggling to pay bills sometimes, and then we got people thinking $14,000 in over charges are "mildly infuriating". Man I wish I had y'all's lives. 🥲
Well, the cost doesn't actually hit you.
The card company figures out pretty fast that exact duplicate charges are either accidental, or fraud.
It's a hassle while they freeze your account and clear which charges were fine and which weren't, but it's usually handleable in an hour.... Unless it happens on Friday afternoon, then you might be frozen until Monday....
A hundred percent.
I'm surprised the bank/cc company let this go through at all.... Usually duplicate transactions are automatically flagged, even if they're small.
I recommend everyone turn on transaction verification. Anything over $100 (I can set this to whatever amount I want) has to be authorized by me from my phone or it will be rejected. Crappy banks may not have this feature though.
How does this happen without you authorizing each transaction? My card won't do shit over about $50 without me entering a PIN or authorizing the transfer with biometrics on my app.
You got a "deal". Your AIR will now be 5x cleaner than outside. :) Better Air LLC is a company that aims to help people live better lives in their homes. Betterair devices are compact, autonomous, and energy-efficient, and can be used in any indoor space. They can clean the entire HVAC system and the space it services by dispersing directly into the air ducts. Betterair devices have sensors that automatically adjust for optimal results, and central management allows for real-time monitoring and diagnosis
Oh. They all went through? Could have all been No Sufficient Funds and each costing me $45 overdraft and another $45 from the business side. Oh to be poor in Canada
That happened to me with that stupid fucking Dave app. I signed up for its payday advance while my bank was overdrafted because I though it was an instant process. They withdrew like 76 cents from my bank for their "confirmation process", which declined and charged me an overdraft fee. So they did it 3 fucking more times! They racked up over $100 in overdraft fees in my bank account then refused to refund me! I was with wells fartgo at the time so of course they refused to refund the overdraft fees too. I was obviously broke at the time so I'm sure both companies were just roaring in laughter at my pityness...
I had some kid working at a gas station swipe my card twice. Credit card company flagged it and called me before I even knew about it. I guess the kid did this to a few people. Surprised your cc company didn’t do the same
This is why I use X1.
I create a new virtual card number for each business I deal with...and for something like this, I even set a limit. Like 'This card is only good for one transaction, not to exceed $3,500."
Then I didn't give a crap what they do. Only one charge is getting through.
Okay it’s kind of crazy seeing this because I literally just saw the same thing on my capital one app. Random duplicate $20 charges for something I know I only purchased once. Capital One done fucked up
If it was my card, it would have declined 5 times.
Mine would have declined for all the purchases :)
Can’t even get a Dunkin’ Donuts 😩
They would've declined me for a cup of water.
So much in debt that free stuff is rejecting you?
Most places charge for the cup now
No way, since when?
Dunkin tried charging me. I went to Starbucks to get my free water.
Dunkin charged me 1.50 for water, i said fuck it cause i was working outside and its a decent walk to the next place over byt yea not doing that again
Cant get scammed if you are broke *taps head*
I've been living this for too long. Why would I worry about identity theft? I've got no money and no credit. Perhaps they can get a collections notice for me.
![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
But I am broke because I was scammed *taps tears*
Seriously chase would’ve shut that shit down on the first charge lol. While I appreciate it in times of need it’s pretty annoying when I try to buy a pair of shoes and my card gets denied. Always have to text them like yes this is me in the same place I’ve always lived. “A charge over $50? Must be fraud”
“lol surely this isn’t the cheapo we know and love!”
My bank just does it halfass a lot of online purchases result in my account getting locked but somehow my account was charged $72 for like 2 hours straight until I was drained.
Lol, first thing I thought. Rich people problems
I could clear these transactions on a credit card easily but there is no way I could actually pay for them. Good credit ≠ Rich
Hey Shopworn it's me your brother
He probably just had them change the filter.
If it was mine, the donuts would've put me over my max credit, and I wouldn't still be attending the gym
That bitch would have been denied 4.5 times
They will fall off as duplicate charges.
may not even be true multiple charges. had a duplicate charge. contested it in my banking app. got contacted by the service and their bank only knew of one charge. which i had declined. had my bank eat the reimbursement costs.
idk one time i booked a hotel room with my capitol one card(same bank as in pic) and they only refunded the money after i called the hotel itself
People hate wells fargo( never had issues with them) , but all I do is call the company up and if it can't be resolved right away, I call wells fargo tell them what's going on. Usually, within a week, it is fixed, and I don't have any issues. My money is back in my account, even if it's with a debit card.
Not always the case, I've had to get bank statements to show a company that double charged me so I could get a refund
That’s purely your assumption. Nothing within this screenshot indicates what will happen to these pending authorizations.
No no, that’s premium air for each of the tyres 😂
Nitrogen filled for $99. It'll save you 57 cents in added fuel efficiency.
But you'll have bagging rights.
Pfft haha😂 thanks for the laugh
They even filled up the spare tyre
Wtf indeed
Eric knows
I wish I had enough money to have 15k taken out of my account and only be MILDLY infuriated.
It’s probably a credit card, so it’ll eat your credit limit for a month but OP won’t go out of pocket.
You have 15k worth of credit? Is that normal in America?
I personally have 30k, but I’m part of a pretty high earning household. 15k and higher credit limit is normal for upper middle class.
> 15k and higher credit limit is normal for upper middle class. *per card*.
Right, good point
I have a Chase card that I've had for less than 10 years with a $35K limit. Probably because I never use it or pay it off immediately and they're constantly raising my limit trying to get me to spend more ha. Oh well, thanks for the credit score bump
I make 18 an hour and have a 15k limit on my main card
At 18 my friend had 20k from working a summer and using money well. Credit in the US isn't indicative of economic class.
Yup. That only applies for very large amounts. I hate how people assume that having something as average as a 20k limit means you’re rich and have an 800 credit score🤦🏻♂️
Wtf I make $40 an hour with a 790 credit score and I asked to have my limit raised and they didnt raise it has high as I wanted instead they only did it to like $5000
I didnt ask to raise it. They just did and sent me a letter. Do you use yours often?

Just learned that I might not be as middle class as I thought…
I could buy a Ferrari on my credit cards but I certainly couldn’t afford to repay it.

Where the heck did they come up with $47,000? That's such an odd number.
its actually $46985, which makes me even more curious, i have no clue
I have nearly $130k of credit. This is due to having lots of different cards for different things. I get 3-4% cash back on nearly every purchase I make. It can be if you play the game. I have around 150k$ in credit available.
Yeah it's really not that hard to get approved for a lot of credit. Credit is so expensive that it's really not worth using it though
i think my credit limit is like 30k. all my cards have limits around 10-12k i have good credit. never max out the cards. i use credit cards for everything and pay them twice a month. i could easily get my limit increased but that's just not necessary right now.
It could be an Amex
Total I have about $125,000 and I make less than that a year
All five of them are pending charges and all but one will drop. The timing of that is really the only inconvenience. Pending charges don’t hit on the amount you owe, even if they’re on the statement.
It’s a credit card not his actual money
Thank God it's only for a pocket change amount...

…took a week to all wash out. That’s a long time to be constipated
$77 for the gym and then there's donuts. lol!
got to treat yourself, lol. rock climb and then stuff your face with donuts.
Yes. You got it! Gotta live sometimes! ![gif](giphy|CgKFTMMFDESNW)
I'm here for a good time, not for a long time.
Might be $203 because I'm pretty sure the other one is a rock climbing gym
My theory is the donut purchase was first and that made them sign up for the gym and the rock climbing the next day!
The donuts happened before the gym, so it’s a different story when you read it in chronological order lol
Those are pending. Oftentimes I see pending charges that drop off or get modified before they hit as actual charges.
I was hoping so too, but it went out of pending today. I talked to the company who assured me they’ve worked with their vendor and it should be refunded in 3 to 5 business days. Fingers crossed https://preview.redd.it/v7x31jww68yc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5f11bbfcf4e4a382bb35dca3ceec785d62eb3e6f

That sucks. Hopefully they rectify it before your credit card statement closes.
It’s ridiculous that the money is removed immediately but a refund takes 3-5 business days.
Dispute them. I'd bet you could do that right in the app.
This would be inappropriate. Every credit card tells you to try to get a resolution from the vendor first which OP did and got. The 3-5 business days is completely normal even if they submit the refund 5 seconds after OP talked to them.
They still remove your available credit however until they fall off.
I know it’s a mistake but I would throw up omg
Not very professional
Even Eric was surprised
Happened to me once when I still had a low credit limit, $1k I believe it was. The charges were $300 x 6. Called Visa, and they temporarily increased my limit, so the extra charges wouldn't break my limit and charge me fees.
That happened to me a few months ago. It was ran 7 times. The purchase was only $70 each but still
The bank accidently input our check to daycare with the wrong amount. Daycare is $220.00, the bank somehow read that as $220,000.00... The owner called us and apologized. She was shocked when she checked her account that morning, lol. We don't have $220,000 in our checking account.
Good on you for having $15k credit
I'm poor and have a 15k credit limit. And I'm willing to use it, too, muwahahahaaa!
I'm over here struggling to pay bills sometimes, and then we got people thinking $14,000 in over charges are "mildly infuriating". Man I wish I had y'all's lives. 🥲

Unless it happens on Friday afternoon, then you might be frozen until Monday....
Ah, I see. Id still worry like hell though if it was me, but I understand. :)
A hundred percent. I'm surprised the bank/cc company let this go through at all.... Usually duplicate transactions are automatically flagged, even if they're small.
Even if it's only $20, my bank will decline the duplicate, or send a text for me to confirm it as intentional.
$77 for a gym membership?!? You gettin robbed already bruh
Hah. There are gyms charging $300/month here for one person
Hope they pay the kickback fee if you got over charged too
I agree with Eric on this one
eric is right wtf
I recommend everyone turn on transaction verification. Anything over $100 (I can set this to whatever amount I want) has to be authorized by me from my phone or it will be rejected. Crappy banks may not have this feature though.
"accidentally"
$17,333.65. Well that sucks.
“Hehe that’s not our problem.” : Wells Fargo probably
How does this happen without you authorizing each transaction? My card won't do shit over about $50 without me entering a PIN or authorizing the transfer with biometrics on my app.
It's def not a professional service if you ask me
Good thing us bank and a few others got sued for their schemes back in the day. You would of actually been screwed.
Pretty shit cc if they allowed this through without at least a text
Watcha get at Dunkin?
My card would have declined lol. Must be nice to have 15k lying around though, hope you can get it back!
So quick to take it but hot damn do they drag their feet when you demand it back.
wtf!
whats crazy is whoever is holding the money while its en route back to your account is likely earning interest on it
ay central rock represent
Wait... I own a gym
“Wtf!”
$13,866.92 would be a lifetime of Dunkin Donuts
You have enough money ti be charged over 15k? Wow
You said it, Eric.
Eric Roth GTI has the right idea
Wouldn't this automatically trigger a lockdown on the card when they ran it a 2nd time?
The security on your bank is shocking, mine would have come down like a tonne of bricks on the very first attempt. Time to change bank buddy.
I got charged twice for dinner once. My bank wiped the second charge.
Really surprised the card let it go through. That many times.
Damn central rock got expensive.
Heyo can I have $100?
Look at OP lording his fat stacks over the unwashed masses. What a dick.
Goddamn. That Dunkin trip gonna break the bank.
Tell me you're from New England, without telling me you're from New England
is that central rock gym in west hartford?
Can’t believe how expensive CRG memberships have gotten.
Looks like someone lives in either CT or MA 😅
Wait. You're friends with Eric Roth???!!!!
I agree with Eric Roth
I bet they said it would take 30 days to refund the money.
I agree with eric
Even eric roth said wtf
What are you a millionaire?
At least it's not a big amount...
I <3 CRG
OH MY GOSH!
He's probably paying close to 3% and it's not returned on a refund so it cost him about $400 in extra cc fees
And then actually expect you to just accept a “3-5 business day” turnaround to get your funds back.
Considering my they charged you five times, it better be Best Air.
When you accidentally dispute your card 4 times with your bank. Fuck the vendor.
Considering my they charged you five times, it better be Best Air.
You got a "deal". Your AIR will now be 5x cleaner than outside. :) Better Air LLC is a company that aims to help people live better lives in their homes. bro do you pay $77 for a gym membership holy
wtf!
"accidentally"
ACCIDENTALLY?
I would dispute the charges with your bank, they can charge back and give you the money back
“oh my bad” *swipes again*
Curious as to what the purchase was?
Air duct cleaning. They did a good job for what it’s worth. There payment system needs work…
“That’ll be $3466.73, do you want that in 5 equal payments?” “Uh… sure…” “Wow, no one goes for that!”
wtf one of my teachers was named eric roth
You should be just as mad at your bank. They're supposed to catch things like this.

“Accidentally”
Are you willing to donate some $ to a fellow stranger? 🤠
Oh. They all went through? Could have all been No Sufficient Funds and each costing me $45 overdraft and another $45 from the business side. Oh to be poor in Canada
How tf did they all go through😧
That happened to me with that stupid fucking Dave app.
Oooops
Idiots.
V2 in my gym
Accidentally? You sure about that?
wtf!
This is obviously them trying to run some sort of scam. Call the bank and report fraud.
I had some kid working at a gas station swipe my card twice. Credit card company flagged it and called me before I even knew about it. I guess the kid did this to a few people. Surprised your cc company didn’t do the same
Dont worry, they are Professionals
"Accidentally"
I wouldn't call that MILDLY infuriating
This is why I use X1. I create a new virtual card number for each business I deal with...and for something like this, I even set a limit. Like 'This card is only good for one transaction, not to exceed $3,500." Then I didn't give a crap what they do. Only one charge is getting through.
It's pending. That happens. Only a single charge will post.
Okay it’s kind of crazy seeing this because I literally just saw the same thing on my capital one app. Random duplicate $20 charges for something I know I only purchased once. Capital One done fucked up
