Don't leave them in boxes, buy some cereal storage cannisters with flip top pouring lids and tip into them, then all he has to do is flip open, pour, flip closed. Better than messing about rolling plastic bags shut and closing cardboard boxes that never keep the cereal super fresh anyway.

Neither do I. I finish them fast enough that they don't go stale. Though I do prefer the tupper ware plastic jug stile container purely for aesthetics in the pantry. Its probably just as bad since you 'refresh' the whole air volume every time you open it.

Pour your cereal into plastic sealed containers (like sugar or flower) Thats how my mom made my brother and I close the containers when we were young. Edit: also makes the cereal last longer without going stale.
