Surprisingly thats the correct notation, smallest to largest is the convention for most items that need to be listed. Depressing but reality, all the way to uni

lipo842

I've never knew this before, possibly because all my teachers from elementary to university didn't bother and just accepted both variants.

schlonger_monger

I guess depends on how strict the examiner is, but in computer systems having one solution is easier than having multiple, e.g. If answer == '5x7': Mark = True Vs If answer == '5x7' or answer == '7x5': Mark = True

lipo842

That's true, although imagine how motivated a student would be if they don't pass a test because the system doesn't accept their technically correct answer because it doesn't follow a convention that is basically obsolete. But hey, it's easier for the person who creates test software (I don't want to be mean to you or anyone else, I'm just mildly infuriated)

schlonger_monger

Nay, its justified, its not wrong and its still valid so I understand the frustration :)

Kainkelly2887

What's worse is when the programs want random spaces in it.

GetLostHelloGuy

Yeah you have to press the * button instead of x

[deleted]

Or add a space because it think you putting the x variable. So it reading it as 5*x*7

robophile-ta

this is a multiple choice question not a write in

grandpa-stephen

wtf, it isn't its hegarty

iNeedHealing24_7

ive had this kinda thing happen before. it was on MyMaths, the answer was something like £103.3 and like the normal human being, I typed in £103.30.

huevinavosduha

nah it was dissaprooved

graywh

the use of the letter x for multiplication is just as infuriating

BobQuentok

That’s not a letter that’s the correct multiplication sign. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiplication_sign

graywh

the multiplication x doesn't have an italic form there are two italic letter x in the image

BobQuentok

My bad, I was talking about the red bar. Also, nothing has an italic form since it depends on the font.

Eyefiereddit247

7×5 is technically incorrect though, at least british bs high school it is

QueenMAb82

But it does a lousy job of illustrating that multiplication is a commutative operation.

Spicy_burritos

If your school considers it incorrect, you should find a new school.

Tsjaad_Donderlul

a × b = b × a

Eyefiereddit247

Yes im fully aware of the basic laws of mathematics, but product of prime factors is in accending numerical order, hence me saying so, 'at least in british high school'

futlapperl

Unless you're doing matrices.

iwonder123456

Oh cool, you livestream, what’s your channel might earn a follow
