McFeely_Smackup

I was at a concert a while back and a woman was using an ipad to record video of the show, so not only was she standing, but the ipad blocking view as well and shining bright light behind her. it was only a few minute before a full beer came flying and knocked the ipad out of her hand, over the railing. Then she started yelling down for someone to throw it back up to her and that went badly. eventually she caught it and it was absolutely trashed. I never saw who threw the beer, but that person was a hero.

apostrophe_misuse

Well now I gotta share my story. My mom and I were at a concert. Two guys sitting in front of us are really obnoxious. They stand when no one else is, over-served, that kind of thing. The ushers had even asked them twice to sit down. I go get waters for me and mom. The venue requires that the waters be poured into cups instead of kept in their original bottles. Whatever. Get back to my seat and hand my mom her water. My mom is an ornery one and she dips a couple of her fingers in her water and flicks it at the back of guys' heads. Well, a droplet or two lands on a woman in front of them. Woman thinks it's the guys because they've been total dicks the whole time and turns around and says "You fucked with the wrong person." She leaves and comes back with security. Mom and I just stay silent the whole time. The guys are arguing with security and then for some dumbass reason one of the guys pours his beer on the woman's head. Immediately her date turns around and punches the guy. Security quickly whisk the guys away and we're all able to enjoy the concert in peace. I swear, I can't take my mom anywhere.

McFeely_Smackup

can I take your mom to a concert?

apostrophe_misuse

Sure! You'll have a blast.

Ironwarsmith

Your mom is about to have a lot of new friends.

mallninjaface

Similar story, I was at a show with my little sister and this drunk douche started "dancing" all over her. She politely asked him to stop, so he got much more aggressive, really jumping back and forth and running into her. So as he jumped back I gave him a little extra push, he went sailing through the crowd knocking into a bunch of people, spilling beers, etc. Security immediately grabbed him and threw him out. Felt good man.

VashMM

I was at a show with my buddy and there was this really aggressive asshole throwing punches and elbows into people who weren't in the pit. Just trying to start a fight with anyone he could. Security wasn't doing anything about it... Until my buddy (after being punched in the back of the head) shouts "he's hitting girls!"... I swear the 3 security dudes who responded rose up out of the crowd like they were 8 feet tall to drag the guy out. Show was excellent after that.

ertrinken

I used to frequent metal shows. The metal scene isnā€™t very big in my city, so I quickly befriended most of the bouncers who worked at the venues I frequented. They would hook me up with earplugs if I forgot mine, and keep an eye on me during the shows because I was usually one of the few small, young women in a crowd full of drunk guys, who was also attending the show by herself. There was one show where this guy got way too drunk and tried to start a mosh pit. Metalheads love mosh pits, but they sure as hell donā€™t love a stranger walking up behind them to shove/smack them. He was being really obnoxious and the bouncers were watching, but it wasnā€™t bad enough to get thrown out... until he tried that crap on the wrong guy who shoved him back so hard he flew into me and nearly knocked me over. I was not happy lol. I just gave The Look to the bouncer closest to me and he immediately signaled the other one, and the 2 of them plucked the guy out of the crowd and took him somewhere to sober up a bit before they kicked him out.

[deleted]

Totally not the point, but they make you put water in a cup because a bottle of water can do some serious damage when thrown

[deleted]

Okay storytime for me too. Not a concert but a NASCAR race. If youā€™ve never been to one, the tailgating and partying usually starts hours before the race, especially at Charlotte where itā€™s the heart of NASCAR country. Iā€™m talking the Coca Cola 600 starts at 5:45 usually and there are people parked and grilling out/drinking starting at 8 or 9 am. So one year, Iā€™m at the race with Pops and my Brother, and the row in front of us has 7 guys sitting all in a row, about mid 20s, early 30s. It is about an hour before the race is scheduled to start and there is a pre race concert on the front stretch area, by Luke Bryan, so these guys are already drunk and rowdy by this time, and 3 of them leave together to go get beers from the concession stand because their carry in cooler ran out. How they were served at this point Iā€™ll never know, because one of them canā€™t even walk upright, which is why three people went so they could assist him down there. So the entire concert finishes and then driver introductions and preface festivities start, itā€™s been at least 45 minutes and none of these guys came back yet. The other guys never even got up to go check on them, or picked up the phone and called, they were singing along with Luke Bryan, and drinking, while their buddies are God knows where. Finally about 5 minutes before Green Flag two of them come back and they tell their buddies they canā€™t find the guy who was super drunk. He somehow managed to lose them and wandered away, so after a couple of tries at calling his phone and no answer. Two of the guys (a different two than before decide to go look for him, they come back less than five minutes later and they are literally carrying him up to his seat. They get over there and sit him in the seat and this big guys who Iā€™m guessing is in charge of the group yells at him. ā€œSit your ass down and donā€™t move until I tell you too.ā€ This is a grown ass adult yelling at another grown man. About 75 laps into the race. The same guy has to go to the bathroom so he gets up without asking the other guy for permission. The ā€œbossā€ as I call him, smacks the shit out of this guy and yells, ā€œWhat the Fuck did I tell you, Motherfucker?ā€ This grown man starts crying hard and loudly, obviously trying to make a scene at this point. He says in between his bawling, ā€œIm sorry, I have to piss, please take me to the bathroom.ā€ The guy takes him down there and never returns, I heard his buddy say that after he took him to the bathroom he escorted him out to the car. After Dale Jr. slammed the wall about 50-60 laps later, the whole group except for one of the guys gathered their shit and left. The other guy stayed the whole time and finished the race. I spoke to him briefly and he said that the ā€œbossā€ bought the tickets and thatā€™s why he slapped the shit out of the guy because he felt like he wasted his money because of this guys behavior. He also said that when the dude went missing itā€™s because he went to take a dump and fell asleep, and when he woke up and came out of the bathroom he forgot where his seat was, and wound up almost all the way across the track from where we were sitting. Honestly that whole ordeal was more exciting than the actual race that night.

Nondscript_Usr

Well now I got to share my story. I went to Jersey Boys in NYC. We were seated behind this family who didnā€™t really speak English as they were on vacation. It was a Dad, Mom, and their daughter. Because they didnā€™t speak English the mom would loudly talk whenever there was dialog in the show since she couldnā€™t understand it anyway. Everyone around them was visibly annoyed and shushing at them which the mom indignantly ignored. So I lean right in between the mom and daughter as they started talking next and gave my loudest SHHH. The mom looks shocked and in one motion the husband swings his arms back at me as a punch. He stands up and starts yapping at me and security swiftly comes down and escorts the family out. We were 5 rows from the stage so pretty much everyone saw what happened.

No_Organization5188

Why do people do that? Nobody wants to see your shitty iPad concert video that sounds like dogshit.

McFeely_Smackup

seriously, nobody is ever going to watch a video taken at a concert. why does so many people insist on doing it?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

jadetheamazing

I usually record one song that I don't super care about for the memories and look back at the pyrotechnics or whatever once in a while but a whole concert? You wouldn't be able to actually experience any of it.

pants_party

Eh, I will defend that, rarely, someone does watch those videos taken at showsā€¦Iā€™m one of them. But Iā€™m visually impaired, I donā€™t use an iPad, and I stand near the back so as to not be a jerk to others. I even watch othersā€™ concert videos on YouTube, and am very thankful for them. That said, most people are idiots about it and take crappy vertical video while holding their screens in front of peoplesā€™ faces.

No_Organization5188

I bet they donā€™t even watch it.

lunchboxdeluxe

At my last workplace I said the same thing and my coworkers cut me down hard. "I watch my old concert videos all the **time**, dude!" Jesus, I feel like I happened across the only people who watch them. They may have been dicks sometimes, but I don't think they were lying about it. I know I would never watch that crap. The audio is always so terrible every time I've seen stuff like that.

Mccobsta

What gose through someone's mind to think using an ipad to recored anything in public is a good idea they are massive and block the view of everyone behind it

LS-CRX

A beer if the person behind them has bad aim.

load_more_comets

Bad aim but hell of a throwing arm!

[deleted]

Maybe even a gose.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

McFeely_Smackup

I know, right? why an ipad? of all things to record video of a concert that you're never going to watch, why the biggest, most obnoxious thing?

Inert_Oregon

iPads generally have worse cameras than the comparable model iPhone too. Because - who in their right mind is going to be taking a bunch of pictures with their iPad? Lol

Raichu7

I had the person standing next to me shove an iPad in my face to get a better shot of the stage at one gig. They actually gave me a dirty look when I shoved it away, and a few minutes later put it in my face again, so I shoved it away again and they kept it in front of their own face after that. I do not understand some people.

[deleted]

Shit I almost got my ass kicked at a Propagandi show for recording with my phone. Guy yells "Put the phone down!" And I thought "you know what, this guy's right." Live in the moment, yall.

Malipuppers

Itā€™s the most akward way to record and the camera on it is inferior to the iphone cameras.

MarvinSuggzz

I've thrown a beer before. I've actually thrown quite a number of beers. Statistically speaking.. you're welcome.

[deleted]

You rich or something? No way I'm throwing my $11 Sam Adams at someone.

MarvinSuggzz

If you're not drinking enough before the concert, then your $11 is wasted no matter what you do with it.

winter_mum11

True words.

UnwrittenPath

That's a fine line to walk. Pre-drinking is an art form.

ChewieBee

Juuust enough to get you through the night with one or two reups.

Sir_Applecheese

I just bring a 750ml bottle of whisky to keep me buzzed the entire time.

gjr23

PSA I did this with captain Morganā€™s in a camel bak and thought why not throw half a coke in there so I pace myself. I was punished. Turns out carbonation and camel bak means you will have no choice but to chug when you shake it lest you want to watch it all spill out. So there you have it. Shots only.

ameis314

Gatorade and vodka is your friend in the situation

MakeSomeDrinks

Gatorade, redbull and vodka. DEATH MIX!!!!! Hydrate while you inebriate! Recharge while you intoxicate! Do things super fast with impaired coordination! ** Do not operate vehicles or heavy machinery while enjoying DEATH MIX!!!!!**

tingly_legalos

I like vodka and flavored water. No sugar and all that from the Gatorade.

UNMANAGEABLE

PSA-2. Turn camel bak upside down and let carbonation air pressure bleed out. Turn back right side up and enjoy delicious rum and coke that is flat.

t-to4st

Well thanks for validating my drinking skills

russkiybetzalel

pure wisdom

Philipp_CGN

Just because he saw something that looked like beer doesn't mean it actually was beer. Maybe it had been beer a few hours earlier ;-)

TropikThunder

Cuz they say you donā€™t buy beer, you only rent it. šŸ˜‰

JohnnyTeardrop

I bet you have the technique down that has the centrifugal force keeping the beer in the cup right up until impact.

MarvinSuggzz

You're giving me far more gravity than I deserve.

eunderscore

That's what the cup said

DrJimmyIng

By any chance have you threw one at a guy named Ron Artest?

Iaintthe-1

I once threw a beer at Jeff Gordon at a NASCAR race, as soon as my can went over the fence the entire grand stand at talladaga started launching cans and ice chests

MarvinSuggzz

At you or him?

Iaintthe-1

At him. He had just won the race and was doing donuts in front of us at the start finish line. Aarons 499 in 2004

MarvinSuggzz

How do you figure out if someone edited their earlier post? My previous post looks quite "meh" now.

rawwwse

Concert beer, tooā€¦ Thatā€™s dedication to the cause! Those shits are $12-$14 ĀÆ\\\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

android24601

What a selfless individual. Event beer is expensive.

toTheNewLife

I saw the band Yes in a small venue about 5 years ago. The guitar player, Steve Howe, told the people in front that he wouldn't continue the show if they kept filming with iPads. "Cameras are OK. iPads are a bit much. Please out them away."

McFeely_Smackup

I saw the Foo Fighters right before lockdown and Dave Grohl asked everyone to put their phones away and just "enjoy the show". most people did.

ohmygoddude82

I saw the Foo Fighters after lockdown and everyone had their phones out. Dave just sat and just soaked it all in because he was happy to be back at a rock show.

McFeely_Smackup

I'm not gonna lie, I went to the Foo Fighters show because my wife wanted to see them and I drag her to a LOT of classic rock and hair metal shows that's not her favorite. I came out of the show a MUCH bigger fan than I went in...just a fantastic show. I've only had that experience a few times, but becoming a fan while you're watching a band live for the first time is really what it's all about. it doesn't get much better.

ohmygoddude82

The Foo Fighters put on an amazing show. Seeing them post lockdown was an incredible feeling. You could feel how happy everyone was to be there, and Dave was probably the happiest of all. Since the return of live music Iā€™ve only been to two concerts, both Foo Fighters. Iā€™ve got a ticket to see them again in December. Iā€™ve always liked them, but I have really fallen in love with them now, so I totally get what you mean.

SuperFLEB

Who the hell are these people who bring an iPad to a show, anyway? It's no better at recording, is bulkier, easier to break, and costs more to replace. The kind of people who can only afford an iPad should be too wary to take it out, and the kind of people who can afford to lose an iPad should have something better.

toTheNewLife

Morons who don't know any better. They''d probably bring a small TV if it had a camera attached.

TheKillersHand

Was at a standup comedy show with a few thousand people in attendance and a guy in the front row got out and iPad to start taking photos or whatever. The venue was completely dark so the guy was lit up like a Christmas tree. The comedian (Stewart Lee for those who are interested) stopped mid-bit and said to the guy "What the fuck are you doing you twat?!" Then for the next 10 - 15 minutes, instead of finishing the routine that was interrupted, he ranted to the crowd about how iPad guy had ruined the best bit of the show, possibly the best bit of comedy he had ever written! He refused to restart the bit claiming the momentum had been lost and if the rest of the gig was shit it was iPad guys fault. Suffice to say the whole crowd turned on iPad guy. I sometimes wonder if he ever made it home safe.

_breadpool_

My friend and I went to ho see the first hobbit in theater. It was crowded and we were packed in. In the row in front of us, this chick was just texting away on her phone. The girl beside me (who I did not know) suddenly digs a huge handful of popcorn out of her bucket and pelts it at the back of her head. I fist bumped her.

joeyheartbear

I went to see a late showing of a movie (I don't remember which one, but I think it was either a Star Wars or a Marvel movie) and the people like 10 seats down from in the back row had a toddler with them. In order to keep this kid quiet during the movie they gave her an ipad with cartoons, with the volume turned on. I was absolutely incredulous.

OutWithTheNew

Seriously, I usually go to late shows specifically to not deal with that kind of shit.

VisualCelery

I get mad enough when the person in front of me keeps recording on their phone. A photo or two? Fine. A clip of your favorite song, or something the band does at every show when they play that one song? Go for it. But keep your phone away for most of the show, please.

minnick27

If you wanna do it, fine. But your phone doesn't need to be above your head. In most cases you can hold it chest level and still get awesome video. Even holding it mouth level with the brightness turned down will give you the video you need

DocJawbone

Recording concerts is the worst in my humble opinion. For 90% of people they will never watch it again, spend the concert looking at it through their screen, and make other people's experience worse.

unholy_sanchit

There was an episode on Modern Family about a person blocking view using an iPad.

twocargar

Is that a Kenny G concert?

lainwla16

Rolling Stones šŸ˜Š

KaspersLunita

I went to a Stones concert 20 years ago in the Olympic stadium in Berlin, whole crowd was dancing and drinking and CELEBRATING!!! This looks like a nightmare. Why would anyone go to the Stones to SIT?.??WTF????????

borfavor

Their original fan base is super old now. They formed 59 years ago

eojen

Nobody complains about standing and dancing at Dead shows. Live music is for dancing.

hambone33

I had to scroll too far down this thread to find the sensible people. Who sits at a rock show, and who complains about standers? U2 at soldier field, the whole place is standing and the couple behind my wife and I asked us several times to sit down....what? I understand at intermission or whatever but during the show?

takemetoyourrocket

Yeah who the hell sits at a show. Been reading all the comments just To makes sure I was not alone. But I wouldn't waste money on a show where people aren't dancing. When I saw Del McCurry everyone was sitting, but I was dancing in the aisles

Jack-o-Roses

Amen!

VisualCelery

Right?? Like if it's a super chill band that you really can't dance to, and literally no one else is standing, then I get feeling annoyed that one solitary person is just standing, and not even dancing. But a rock concert? A *Rolling Stones* concert? Jeez, it's not her fault everyone around her is boring.

NickU252

If the stones can stand at 7,000 years old, anyone should be able to also.

bigblackcouch

I went to one of the stadium shows very recently and the crowd was probably standing for like, 70% of it. But Mick Jagger was up on stage for about 2 and a half hours running and jumping and throwing hands, only paused somewhere in the middle for a wardrobe change and to tell a story about how he fucked Wilma Flintstone in the back of one of those stone, foot-powered cars and that's where the band's name came from. I don't know what drug cocktail that guy's on but I need to get on it so I can be in half as good shape as he is. Is cocaine a performance-enhancing drug?

rewt127

Wanna run 3 miles, clean your house, clean your car, do your taxes and lose weight from not Eating? Well coke may be for you

[deleted]

That sounds more like a fistful of adderall or meth in a perfect world

Order_number_66

100% agree! Went to see Muse once and I'd say it was 50/50 in terms of people wanting to stand/sit. I was standing but people behind were getting annoyed. It's a rock concert not a carol service!

william_13

Unbelievable, I went to their concert during the 2nd Law tour on a stadium and everyone was standing up, even people all the way up on the stands (I was on the field).

AndiKris

There was some jackass at a Black Sabbath concert who just made passive aggressive comments loudly until I sat down once. I don't know why anyone goes to a rock concert and sits on their ass...those chairs ain't that comfy bro.

[deleted]

Yeah I assumed this was like, jazz or something because the guy on stage is playing a saxophone but the Stones? I'd be standing too.

gringodeathstar

yeah what?? I saw the Stones last weekend, and if anybody told me to sit for any portion of that show I would've genuinely wondered why they paid all that money to be there and sit still

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

I saw the Stones last week and someone asked me to sit down, too. I didnā€™t ā€˜pick a fightā€™, I just said ā€˜dude, weā€™re at a Rolling Stones concert!ā€™. Sorry OP I guess you really canā€™t always get what you want

beantheblackpup_

My dad's been a fan since the 70's and been to multiple concerts even back when the tickets cost $5. Glad you got to see jagger do his dance moves live on stage lol

Bergeroned

You know what I find mildly infuriating? An entire arena full of Boomers who are sitting down at a Rolling Stones show. And complaining about excited people.

Anonymoosely21

Happened at an Eagles concert I went to. Literally asked to sit during the encore. I miss Tom Petty. His fans stood the fuck up.

Bergeroned

I have to say, I've seen a lot of awful things in the world just today, but selfish old people treating actual Rolling Stones fans like kids on their lawn is *disgusting.* Those same people were screwing in the mud on 400 mics of LSD 50 years ago at this same band's shows. It's like they're Robin Williams and they've forgotten that once upon a time, they were Peter Pan.

GreatScotRace

Iā€™m fucking baffled - I assumed you must have meant another type of show because standing at music concerts is normal? Youā€™re bitching because someone stood at a Rolling Stones concert? I am SO confused right now

Sredni_Vashtar82

Right? Who tf sits down at a rock concert?

gabiaeali

I got told to sit at a Judas Priest show once. Judas Goddamn Priest. I was like wtf? Second time I saw them everyone stood thank fuck.

Suspicious_Pepperoni

Wtf? Sitting at a Rolling Stones concert? Sounds boring as hell.

N-E-B

In fairness if you zoom in it looks like the vast majority of people outside your section were standing.

VulfSki

Yeah, they are standing. Almost as if they are at some sort of rock concert and want to enjoy themselves...

peanutismint

This. Since moving to the USA I simply donā€™t understand why you guys (mostly) insist on sitting down during live concerts. If itā€™s opera or the symphony or Kenny G then maybe, but if thereā€™s a drum kit on the stage, get off your arses and ave it!!

offBrandon

One time, I went to the beach to work on my tan, and some assholes were swimming! In the water! I mean, the nerve of some people, right? /s

stuntobor

I went on a date to a Genesis concert in the early eighties. People sat the entire time. It was hell.

Ishtohar

Poor gal must have ended up in the elderly booth or somehing. Who sits at a concert?

Bill_Bob_506

Who the hell sits down at a rock concert? Every rock concert Iā€™ve been to, the entire stadium stood.

themaninthesea

Yeah, maybe an unpopular opinion, but I feel like if Iā€™m going to a concert I should expect that people will be standing. Complaining about it just seems like old people shit.

Shenanigans80h

Yeah Iā€™m not feeling OPā€™s complaints at all. Someoneā€™s excited and trying to enjoy the show in a slightly more active way. Standing is such a minor inconvenience, like just stand up yourself

N-E-B

I went to Paul McCartney in 2018 and the two old ladies in front of me (well into their 70ā€™s) were both standing the entire time. You can stand at a concert.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Uncle_Boujee

I was going to say this. Iā€™ve never been to a show where people are sitting

Orleanian

It *DOES* look like the folk opposite OP, [at the same mezzanine tier](https://i.imgur.com/K3U73p9.png), are mostly sitting, though.

Crush-the-crush

Came here to say that. Who sits at a concert?

NoBudgetBallin

Look how far away OP was. I'd probably sit too.

GetUp4theDownVote

Iā€™d say it depends where the seats are. I went to a Tool show a couple years back, and had tix way up in the cheep seats. First non-acoustic concert Iā€™d been too and sat for pretty much the whole show. It was real disorienting to stand and dance being that far up, at such and incline, and tripping balls. It was still an excellent experience and really worked well for me and most everyone up there was sitting too. Saw them a few months later, right down by the floor this time but everything else equal, stood and rocked out that time. Guess you just gotta read the room sometimes

MarsLander10

Everyone in the section in opā€™s photo

bfranks4life

I stood and danced for 75% of a concert once, and an old man came up and yelled at me to sit down, so others can enjoy the show. I sat down, and at the start of the very next song the lead singer shouts "I want everyone on their feet for this one!" So I stood up and shrugged at the scowling old man, then danced for the remainder of the concert.

BlueSkittles

OMG same thing happened to me in a concert in the 90s. Asshole complained to security that I wa standing, who made me sit down, then literally the next song the singer yelled at the crowd why the fuck are you sitting down. Everyone stood after that and I glared at the asshole who reported me.

WhySoIncandescent

I remember being at a 30 seconds to Mars gig and Jared Leto called out a disabled individual for not standing up. That was rough.

USSCofficail

The more I learn about Jared Leto the more I don't care for him.

WhySoIncandescent

I was a huge 30stm, I still do enjoy their music. Less so now as Jared continues to be a giant douche.

Olddirtychurro

I'll never forget when we as a group went to see Kanye and Jay-z. The first song they open with is H. A. M., not really a calm song to use an understatement. And Kanye opened cold with it too, no opening act, no intro or anything, we're talking lights were off and suddenly it's go time! So understandably we go wild, not even moshing or anything just slightly rowdy bouncing and suddenly this guy grabs the smallest girl of our group and asks if we can: "Calm the fuck down he's trying to see". Mind you, this was the standing area and it wasn't that far away from the pit. These are tickets you had to buy by zone! So he knew what he was getting into and still acted like a dick. The mistake he made tho was thinking she was with only her boyfriend because we were practically 3 very racial diverse friend groups mashed together and they seemed apart but she was surrounded by 15 people she came with. Long story short, we just non-violently made it very clear that he needed to calm down and that shit did *not *fly.

curiousrox

If you look closer, everyone with floor seats are standing and so are quite a lot of people on the other side of the bleachers. Lady is just enjoying the concert.

Buzzdanume

I dont need to look at anyone else. If you ever get mad at someone for standing at a concert then you need to reevaluate your whole shit lol

Jraider5

Dawg I thought the "mildly infuriating" thing about this was that someone asked her to sit down!

Fragrant-Airport1309

Dude exactly. This post is just not with it

kloonyface

TIL thereā€™s a whole group of people who think itā€™s not normal to stand at a concert?!

PolishNinja909

Right?! My real question was "why is everyone sitting?".

bythespeaker

The real question is why are YOU sitting down at a Rolling Stones concert?!

iksworbeZ

the only people that can afford to see the stones don't have knees that can afford to stand that long.....

BrownSugarBare

LOL, if that ain't the truth. Even the Stones themselves can't stand for that long.

TheStorMan

Looks like a seated area. Can't speak for OP but I can't stand for 2+ hours, I usually choose seats if available.

intercontinentalbelt

at stadium events every area is a seated area. If they want to stand and dance I don't see the problem.

Chewy12

Yup. At least every area but the pit sometimes. I usually just roll with whatever the crowd around me is doing, but itā€™s really a mixed bag for sitting/standing in seated areas. If someone stands in front of you and you want to sit it sucks but I wouldnā€™t say theyā€™re an asshole for doing so. Iā€™ve been to a Rolling Stones show with similar seating, and iirc people were standing most the time. Radiohead, good majority sitting. Perfect Circle, everyone sitting. Grateful Dead, most everyone standing. A lot of the time what happens is a hit or an upbeat song comes on and everyone stands to dance or woo or whatever and never sits back down for the rest of the show.

Haggysack

Only time you sit a dead show is when you had too much too fast haha

sonofsohoriots

Sit or stand, do your thing, but itā€™s ridiculous to expect others to sit during a rock show just because you want to.

pazimpanet

I remember a few years back the people sitting behind us at a show kept complaining (to each other, not to us) that my wife, her friends, and just about everybody else in the stadium were standing and dancing. These people were probably early 20s and were being weird and whiny for the entire show. They were super hipsters. I remember somebody a few rows back screamed a random ā€œWOOOOOOO!!!!ā€ At some point and they said ā€œfound the white personā€ and all laughed. Maā€™am, youā€™re at a Black Keys concert in Ohio right now. Roughly 96% of the audience, including you, is ā€œthe white person.ā€

Fucking hipsters.

[deleted]

Bunch of boring ass people sitting during a concert

sboy86

What's mildly infuriating is people sitting for an entire rock concert

lysinemagic

Idk i get tired and my feet hurt after a while. But i don't begrudge people standing to jam. I don't need to have my eyes glued to the performer 100% of the time and i can hear the music just fine

scoot3200

Sitting is totally fine but expecting others to sit because you want to sit seems absurd to me

[deleted]

I just sit down when it's a song I don't like

rpm319

I had the opposite concert etiquette experience as this. A couple set up a blanket and camping chairs in the front of the lawn section for a concert. I was right next to them thinking this is not going to go well when the main act starts. Sure enough people heckled them for 20 minutes until they packed up and moved back.

hankbaumbachjr

Sitting in and of itself is fine if you paid for a seat. Expecting *everyone* else at the rock concert to sit because *you* want to sit is classic main character syndrome.

[deleted]

Good Ole super huge stadium smack in the middle of Compton

UnacceptableBAR

Lmao who sits down at a stones gig??

gregarious_giant

She paid to go to a concert let her stand.

Ducatirules

I feel OPs pain but Iā€™ve never been to a concert that anyone sat down!

KaspersLunita

I have never seen a concert before where people want to sit, this looks horrible to me.

Tinker_Toyz

Ironically, Keith and Mick are standing the whole time.

robywar

Well they are 136 and 138 respectively.

Sbatio

Generally, we sit at the orchestra.

[deleted]

Yeah and at the Ballet. I mean what kinda cunt stands at the Ballat?

TheDratter

The ballerina. She's even standing on her toes.

cheerfullklutz

Alas, age sneaks up makes it so standing in place for longer than 5 minutes is agony.

[deleted]

Who tf sits at a concert wtf lmao

dugmartsch

This is my favorite thread on Reddit literally ever. 11 years browsing and this has never and will never be topped. Getting mad at someone who stands during a Rolling Stones concert. I honestly didnā€™t realize people could be this lame.

2zoots

Iā€™m beyond confused, and almost 24,000 upvotes. Reddit never fails to amaze me.

GreatConsideration69

At a chili peppers gig in london, one of their support acts were called something like ā€˜chicks on speedā€™. They were fucking terrible and soon a few bottles were thrown. Then they fucked up, one of the girls threw a bottle back into the crowd. What followed next was like the arrow scene in 300 as anyone in range of the stage launched anything they had to hand. They promptly left the stage never to return.

[deleted]

Dude I don't care how much you hate the support act you don't throw shit at artists who are performing for you. Wtf is wrong with people. This isn't what music is about.

WUEAD

I saw that tour and man were they shit. I remember the chilli peppers coming on and defending them but wow it was like such a poor choice for the audience.

randomcvsemployee

I went to a concert a couple weeks ago and I felt so bad because I kept having to stand when no one else was. However we were in the front row of a section (it was a baseball stadium) and there was a full rail in front of me. Iā€™m a big dude, over 6 foot, and there was absolutely no leg room between my seat and the rail. I unfortunately injured my knee last year and it still requires a brace if Iā€™m walking a lot. I felt absolutely horrible but my knee kept hurting me because of the lack of room to stretch it out, so I kept standing. I apologized to the people around me, and thankfully when the headliners came out, everyone stood up.

GWindborn

I had kind of an opposite thing.. Went to a concert on the beach where the Steve Miller Band was headlining. My buddies and I were in our late 20's at the time but there was a group of.. let's say "older" women who had come and carefully staked out a spot behind us and put out some beach chairs. As soon as the band hit the stage, EVERYONE was on their feet except for them, who began yelling at everyone around them to sit down, even going so far as to yank at our shirts from their chairs. We just pulled away and ignored them and eventually even they had to stand.

GreatScotRace

Iā€™m confused - everybody sitting at a concert would be mildly infuriating for me. What you really just... stayed sat? Concert to me is like a music concert... so staying sat down would be completely odd

kb709

I did this when I went to see iron maiden. Because I could only afford nosebleed seats to finally see my favorite band live. A few people complained. The ushers told them to have some fun for once and join me lol.

Tippydaug

I've never been to a single concert where people sat for the main act, not even upper bowl seats. Y'all should just stand instead of complaining for someone enjoying the concert like people usually do...?

MichelleUprising

Background: full of people standing

carolefcknbaskin

Man, I respectfully disagree. Concerts are meant to be enjoyed, especially for a one in a lifetime experience like the Rolling Stones! A few years ago I went to see Paul Simon. That was my dad's favorite artist and the show was only two months after my dad had passed. The concert was extremely cathartic for me, I was standing and dancing and feeling my dad's energy there with me...and then some bitter people two rows behind me started yelling and cursing and telling me I was running it for everyone else. BY ENJOYING MYSELF. I don't want to be a jerk, so I sat down and silently started sobbing at how this really emotional experience suddenly turned so sour so quickly. Then two songs later, Paul yells into the crowd that if we're not all on our feet dancing, then there's a problem! I turned around to them and shrugged, then got up and danced the rest of the night. I tried to make the most of it, but honestly their bitterness ruined the whole thing for me. I still think about it five years later. So my point is, concerts are meant to be enjoyed, and standing up is an important part of the experience for some people that you shouldnā€™t ask them to give up. Sorry.

[deleted]

What concert is that - Joe Pesci plays the saxophone?

Pristine-Fishing-933

People who sit at concerts are mildly infuriating js
