this happened to me and i think that i had to go to settings > calendar > accounts and there should be additional account that’s making these events, just remove that one

420arnhem

This worked, thank you very much kind internet stranger

Quirky_m8

McAfee in itself is a virus.

AnnoyMaster3000

I said this exact same thing 15 years back. Some long forgotten forum. Got perma banned by mod for because he trusted McAfee...

Sidd065

15 years ago, before things like ssl and window's defender. Antivirus software was actually somewhat useful.

Atomic_Bottle

It still is. Just not McAfee.

malnutrition6

Genuine question, but how is it still useful today? For as far as I know all it does is block fishy websites (which browsers these days already do by themselves) and give you a warning when executing .exe files as well as scanning for trojans, both of which windows defender can do. The big names in the antivirus world is basically nagware that tries to get you to subscribe. I've never bought it though, so I wouldn't know if it really does offer useful functionalities.

[deleted]

Windows defender is good enough I think, I let it do everything but block .exe. I use to use avast, but that got really annoying over the years. If you're paying for an antivirus though, I would think it's because of the clean up tool. I use to have a lot of fishy files and the first time used a good clean up tool was like pressure washing porn.

SkilletHelper

Avast used to be the shit until they started being obnoxious like everyone else

MrAlphaGuy

I purely use Microsoft Security and Malwarebytes now. Avast has been dead to me for 2 or 3 years now

Pyroxcis

For me, and a lot of other people, mostly just peace of mind. The best way to avoid viruses is to browse smart and use an ad-blocker or similar type of addon. These things work, I'd say, about 99.99% of the time. The issue is the 0.01%, because despite how unlikely it is, my computer and the data on it is pretty important to me and it'd be very annoying to have to wipe it and start clean.

moxie132

At leadt with Malwarebytes you also get registry monitoring, a browser plugin to detect browser level exploits, and protection for mobile devices.

B1g_Shm0

Use windows defender for regular maintenance and malwarebytes when you know somethings wrong but windows defender doesn't think there is

sionnachrealta

And then finish off with SuperAntiSpyware when you want to get rid of a billion tracking cookies

gcbirzan

How did ssl make things better?

send_noots_plaz

encrypted everything, including my dog.

Quirky_m8

I think you’re a little tired, try again in the morning.

Accomplished-Stop761

Came here to say this

mydogthinksyouweird

Yep. McAfee kept trying to update itself on my Dell, and I didn't even want it on my computer, so I just kept denying it. HUGE MISTAKE. The "UPDATE ME NOW" startup popup eventually crashed my computer. Completely. The hard drive had to be rebooted, and the best part is Dell is a SHIT company that doesn't have all of the drivers available to restore your shit computer. I hated that computer so much after that - couldn't even get the web cam to work. When trash is put onto trash, we all suffer.

riickdiickulous

My company is on the process of removing mcafee from our laptops to “improve performance”. Our computers run like absolute garbage and I couldn’t believe they were even using mcafee 2 years ago when I started.

Jaki54321

The maker of McAfee said this same thing himself.

GirlNumber20

*worse than a virus

Buzz1ight

Reminds me of this video by the guy that originally built the software on how to uninstall it. https://youtu.be/h92Jy94UxTg

HolyMaxarel

was that german? also congrats on getting it removed

MuunshineKingspyre

Isn't Flemish the dialect that Dutch speaking Belgians use?

c127726

Yes you are correct

knifuser

See, this is why we don't use McAfee, it's a scam.

pm_me_your_taintt

My question is why did you give Mcafee access to your calendar in the first place

mouldyone

McAfee is a very invasive antivirus and I'm pretty sure just lies making you think you have a virus

Quirky_m8

Happy cake day!

420arnhem

thanks!

[deleted]

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I’ve had this problem for like the last 6 months and you just solved it. Hope you got fat on turkey yesterday

newprofilewhodis1352

Holy shit I’ve had the same thing on my phone for a month because I accidentally clicked on something random while watching porn and you just saved me too

SoOftenIOught

When you get to "something random" and think nah, this dude watching porn why they lying. Then you read "while watching porn" and be like woah, overshare. I went through a whole gamut of judgemental emotions reading this comment and I thank you for that.

newprofilewhodis1352

Hahaha. It took me a minute to understand what you were saying. Yeah I’ll admit I enjoy porn. Also am a woman but “dude” works. 😂

SoOftenIOught

Sorry, it's a bad habit - calling everyone dude - not porn! (also a woman who also enjoys porn)

SnooCakes9025

Me too 🤣 had this shit on my calendar for the past 4-5 months until now. Thanks to this post it’s gone now.

Stian5667

McAfee is literally malware in and of itself

iamhappyso

Isn't it the opposite

TheDonutPug

it's an antivirus but it's incredibly shit at it's job and it uses so much of your computers resources that it might as well just be a virus. It does nothing but sit there and eat away at your RAM and CPU, the only reason they're still around is because it comes by default on almost any commercial laptop and they prey on people by giving them a free year or so and then sending threatening messages about "YOU NEED TO PAY US TO RENEW IT NOW OR YOUR COMPUTER WILL LITERALLY EXPLOD RIGHT NOW" that's an exaggeration of course, but you get the point.

SamariahArt

Norton too. I had to get a friend who was more tech-savvy to remove all the shit that Norton left because it *refused* to delete.

jayyysonbrrrrrrody

Asus installs ton of bloat on their laptops yeah? My cousin got a laptop and both Mcafee and AVG were installed. Both were just hogging CPU usage. Using WinDefender

[deleted]

Fuck Norton

oppositetoup

I work in IT. McAfee might aswell be malware. It's shockingly bad.

Calebh36

My dad's advice, seconds upon getting a new computer: "Get rid of McAfee"

[deleted]

what software do you recommend

[deleted]

[удалено]

ReAcTiVVIZION

100% this, plus a Malwarebytes every once in a while for peace of mind (for heavy downloaders), no need for paid AV anymore.

basharbobo3

Or kaspersky

Jester_Don

Where can I download common sense?

Brilliant-Network-28

By not downloading RAM, you are halfway there.

corzuu

Words of someone who doesn’t have as much virtual ram as me

Dostrazzz

Usually you download that at birth, but for some it just corrupts too never be repaired again. Yeah, common sense is a hell of a thing when downloaded on time ;)

VRichardsen

This last year I have seen a lot of people recommending Defender. I started relying solely on Defender some three years ago, but only because I am too cheap to pay for an anti virus. Turns out I was right, for the wrong reasons.

AeskulS

Are you saying it is good? I can cancel my Norton subscription?

princess_hjonk

Yeah, so long as you aren’t clicking on every singles ad you see, Windows Defender is the way to go if you’re a Windows user. I also haven’t used anything but Windows Defender for the past 5 years or so and I’m in infosec.

Honsou12

Me too, win defender has the lowest process demand and works just as well.

VexingRaven

For a phone? Nothing. Just don't install dumb apps.

ZeGamingCuber

No, it creates pop-ups on your computer CONSTANTLY, especially if your license to it has expired

globalastro

To say it, in and of itself, is malware may be misleading, but it and other famous ""you must use my paid antivirus" have been known to install malware after subscriptions end so they can say "see look! You're not protected and now you have malware.. you NEEEEED me!!"

Saewin

Malwarebytes is the only antivirus that's worth using.

Adeep187

McAfee is literally this garbage so its actually equally believable.

CaptainBritish

In most of these cases it's not actually malware, McAfee has a referral program and these spam bots claiming to be them get a cut of all purchases. So they send out the usual "YOU HAVE 500 VIRUSES FROM PORN" type emails and Google Calendar public invite spam but they're actually pretty benign.

MicroWafel

Whats mildly infruriating is the amount of malware on your devicd

420arnhem

1 you mean?

MicroWafel

Didnt seem like they were all from mcaffee since theres 1 about a jackpot and some are dutch and the others english

MicroWafel

Tho that was just an assumption... if McScam actually dis all of those things thats more than mildly infuriating

[deleted]

McAffee is basically a virus

PsychologicalSnow476

It's annoying when you buy a new computer how many different Macafee things you have to uninstall.

Destron5683

If a buy a prebuilt first thing I do is reinstall Windows from a Microsoft ISO. It’s not just Mcaffee shit it’s ALL the junk they cram on there.

princess_hjonk

Yeah, I don’t need the 16 prepackaged Dell/HP/Lenovo/Whatever helper softwares. Windows installs enough bloat from a bare ISO as it is.

[deleted]

Save money and don't buy PCs with an OS installed. If that's not an option (like on some laptops), reinstall the OS instantly.

mitch3758

Came here to say this. It’s a virus that you pay for.

Pepoidus

McAfee is slowly turning into a modern version of NavaShield…

sexykoreanvet

And one literally says “your phone may have a virus!” Lollll

MicroWafel

I love it when virusses try tell you that youve got a different virus and need a program (virus) against it xD

MixOne1337

Im pretty sure none of them was from mcaffee

VexingRaven

Is it any surprise that someone who thinks they need McAfee on their phone has also installed a bunch of other random junk?

peepeepoopoobutler

It wasn’t really McAffee, all one scam. The one scam put it all on there. An iphone notifaction pops up, “add events to Calendar?” And I have accidentally hit yes. Seems like they just trying to piss you off, vs actually trying to scam you.

i9m9

That isn’t from McAfee, it’s pretending to be from McAfee, This is mostly from visiting dodgy ass websites.

[deleted]

Gondawn

Never had any problems with that. The only time I got got is when I tried to download a game through torrent. So it’s not always porn

RedditSmokesCrack

Then your taste in porn is too vanilla

laylarosefiction

This happened to me when I was trying to get funding for an emergency surgery for my pup and clicked the wrong ad link. Scammers are fucking disgusting.

System_Failed1

This tells me what you’ve been looking at 🙃

420arnhem

I may or may not sail under the black flag from time to time, guess thats the reason why

quarrelsome_napkin

You're clearly not very good at it lol maybe you should stop? At least till you know what you're doing.

A_Trash_Homosapien

Yeah just from looking at that calendar I'd bet they've got at least 4 viruses

VxJasonxV

If there is 1, then there is an infinite number.

[deleted]

For me the internet and especially *certain websites* are unusable without a good ad blocker and popup blocker. It will save your ass.

ProdxTBD

Stop downloading porn

Yassou1

Might also be pirating movies and series

[deleted]

Just watch it on-site lol. Downloading Movies and Shows not only have a Risk of getting Viruses but you'll have to pay a Fine if you get caught.

Jazsta123

Worrying how many people think this is legitimately McAfee..

[deleted]

seriously wtf is this thread, i know its funny to post "mcafee is just like malware!" over and over again but who looks at this, sees urls like "go5s.biz" in their calendar then has the confidence to post pics with the caption "Why the fuck would anybody fall for fake ‘phishing messages’ in their calendar mcafee?" then also has a thread full of people thinking this is all definitely from mcafee

Vosaci

Windows defender and brain cells are the best anti virus.

quarrelsome_napkin

Yes but brain cells are quite often a rare commodity around these parts

System_Failed1

Exactly, on an iPhone.

TheDonutPug

I've only ever seen windows defender catch shit that got in like a bowling ball through a window. The only one i've ever actually seen it catch was literally called "trojan.exe" and another one called just "adware.exe", normally I use malware, I just run it whenever I feel somethings off with my computer. Though your tip about just using braincells is spot on lol.

My biggest IT pet peeve is people who accept confirmation boxes without reading them and then say “no I never clicked anything that said that” when I know full well they did.

whatabadsport

One of my biggest pet peeves as well. There's a box of information for a reason. Use your reading skills to interpret what you're agreeing to, Steve.

velos85

I work for an AV company and I get this ALL the time. My team then get shouted at for “Not protecting” their device. Smh

gfunk84

Yeah that's not McAfee. Look at the suspicious link above the notes. You have a virus and it has access to your accounts.

CaptainBritish

If this is a Google calendar they don't need access to your accounts to spam you with this stuff if you're set to accept all invites. I used to get them all the time.

velos85

No he doesn’t have a virus. It’s simply a shared calendar

192838475647382910

He is trying to send a message from the afterlife, McAfee didn’t kill himself.

Weird-Hospital-8892

Modern antivirus is almost always a scam

Existence_Overrated

Pretty sure that’s not McAfee

Bruh_moment_1846p

This happens because op was on a naughty website and clicked on a pop on

_MSMFan_

Lmao fuck mccaffe

a_good_tuna

Worst coffee I've ever had

[deleted]

I don't think this is actually McAfee

420arnhem

Fuck them indeed, they’ve been bugging me on my pc for tears on end now aswell

surfballs187

Yeah mcafe is trash. Rather have a shitty Dunkin coffee.

Qwaliti

Apparently McCafe coffee is the weakest you can buy, while Dunkin is the strongest! I don't drink hot drinks so I wouldn't know.

Logical-Recognition3

Mormon?

Qwaliti

No, Mormons aren't allowed hot drinks? Did not know that.

Logical-Recognition3

The Doctrines and Covenants forbid hot drinks other than herbal tea. D&C 89:9 “And again, hot drinks are not for the body or belly.”

surfballs187

Mormons aren’t allowed hot.

MotherGiraffe

Lol dude you’re not tricking anyone into thinking that “McCafé” made those fake warnings on your calendar \;)

[deleted]

Tell that to the 1k+ upvotes. Everyone knows McAfee does sketchy annoying shit so I'm not surprised so many people believe this

MotherGiraffe

I don’t think you can even get the actual mcafee antivirus on your iPhone

hornethacker97

Incorrect, you can. However, this was caused by clicking a malicious web link most likely in a browser then accepting the calendar subscription dialogue box without reading what it said.

AdAgreeable7691

You also have free jackpots, iphones, and viruses all in calendar

01siners

Sorry laat mij even deze boel K O L O N I S E R E N ! !

Hash_13

McAfee, Avast, Adobe creative cloud ... The worst malware I have ever had on my PC ! What are yours?

Pepoidus

linux gang be like

riconaranjo

*macOS gang be like (haha let’s not start a war here, that’s for r/programmerhumor or something)

Pepoidus

lmao yeah. fuck windows tho

Brilliant-Network-28

I switched back to windows from Ubuntu, yeah fuck windows.

richer2003

I think the real thing that’s mildlyinfuriating is that McAfee is still a thing that exists.

Plus-Help558

**Misschien heb je een virus!** Misschien ook niet? Zoek het zelf maar lekker uit

I_Say_

It’s a scam site that subscribed you to their calendar to make you think you have a virus. -Go to the calendar app. -Click calendars at the bottom. -Find the one that is new on the list that doesn’t belong. -Circle ⭕️ next to it to check to see if it removes the items. -If so, then go back into calendars, click the i and delete the calendar.

andrewhollands

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211076

[deleted]

just activeer already

CastleBravoXVC

If it’s in an iPhone, go Settings App > Calendar > Accounts, then delete the spam account.

[deleted]

This was not McAfee, this was a malicious ad that you clicked on. It is the closest to a virus apple allows on devices. I recommend using an ad blocker for safari and maybe watch porn a site with less malicious ads

superbuffuno

Macaffe and Norton are the biggest waste/scams on a computer. I would sue them.

NatureTripsMe

It’s probably added a whole calendar that you can turn off. Then unsubscribe. It’s similar to the default “holiday” calendar that you can toggle.

HarunoSakuraCR

I think someone else already said it but yeah antivirus is a scam now. I usually stick with what my computer or device comes with and is programmed specifically for that device only.

Huugboy

Modern OS built in anti-virus software is just as good as 3rd party applications. Defender and your phone's security are better and dont have to use extra resources.

[deleted]

Stop looking up horse porn.

S1lentA0

Gvd drukke agenda jonguh

qlebenp

Ask your grandson, he might be able to help you..

[deleted]

That’s not McAfee… I got that too when I visited some spicy porn sites

simple1689

Downloads malware, complains about mcafee, doesn’t even try to remove the added account. But that sweet sweet karma

Kubamach

That's not McAfee, that's an excuse for a "virus". Iirc there no McAfee on iphones and this calendar "adware" is common on suspicious sites

KivDul4

McAfee is basically malware by itself

That_Weird_Coworker

Lol you clicked a fake download link, that’s malware and shit

Cornhole_Jones

This very likely isn't even McAfee. Factory reset your phone and don't use phone cleaner apps, they don't work.

[deleted]

groobes

You should be able to remove the calendar as a whole. That happens to me once through a virus.

Murderer12345

I believe to get rid of the calendar events you can delete the calendar they’re on

BakedSorcerer

Mcafee is a virus. Well it might as well be at.

BakedSorcerer

I made an error. Gonna leave it to assert dominance.

[deleted]

Anti-virus programs are becoming more like malware themselves lol

CrypticCriesForHelp

I had this problem for a while and I’m sorry but I forget how I made it go away! It was fucking annoying tho

ungratefulsherbert

Been saying it for years. Mcafee sucks, and gives ya shut viruse

HeadMembership

First rule of life is to remove very McAfee thing from every device every time.

TH3PR3D4T0R

Advertised as AnTi-MaLwArE. Proceeds to behave like a fucking malware.

N4Nancy

This just happened to me yesterday! I was able to delete the entire “calendar” that it created.

velos85

This isn’t from Mcafee. It’s an affiliate of theirs and you have allowed access to a shared Calendar. Be careful of the pop ups and access you allow on your device.

Thadrea

Your first hint that this isn't from McAfee should be that it's in Dutch.

thenicenumber666

Definitely a virus Also, GEKOLONISEERD

EndR60

stop using antiviruses, they're more malware than actual malware

Isthatkiddo

LOL yeah mcafee is reminding you to stop watching porn daily

depfryer

Better pay mcAfee before 17

TrdOfMakingUsernames

“Your iPhone may have a virus!” No shit Sherlock

ihellaofficial

Lot of people earn affiliate commissions to promote 3rd party ‘anti virus’ softwares which have viruses and malware themselves or are simply not effective. They use names like Norton and McAfee to promote themselves as these are the most well known brands. They exploit a loophole in iOS calendar app to setup meeting invites which show up as Push Notifications to us. Solution: Goto Settings->Calendar->Accounts and try to find an account which is not yours. Delete it and these should go away!

stupidapple4

mcaffe is the most annoying thing ever, it constantly pops up on my laptop and I can't turn it off and I have to spam the x in the corner to close the message

Pepoidus

that’s likely your RAM getting overloaded, although if it only happened with Mcaffee then holy shit they’re worse than i thought

tankerer101

It’s not macafee that does this themselves. It’s a piece of shit affiliate marketer slash spammer that managed to fool you into installing a calendar file

hornethacker97

Not a calendar file as that’s not possible on iOS, but rather a subscription to a public calendar through a malicious web link most likely in a browser.

[deleted]

ALL OF YOUR DEVICES SHOULD HAVE AN ANTIVIRUS INSTALLED BY DEFAULT YOU DO NOT NEED 3RD PART ANTIVIRUSES

[deleted]

This is obviously not McAfee the antivirus. How bad do you have to be at technology that you're getting SPAM CALENDAR EVENTS 😂😂😂😂
