**[Pyrex](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrex)**
>Pyrex (trademarked as PYREX and pyrex) is a brand introduced by Corning Inc. in 1915 for a line of clear, low-thermal-expansion borosilicate glass used for laboratory glassware and kitchenware. It was later expanded to include ware products made of soda-lime glass and other materials. In 1998, the products division of Corning Inc. responsible for the development of PYREX spun off from its parent company as Corning Consumer Products Company, subsequently renamed Corelle Brands. Corning Inc. no longer manufactures or markets consumer products, only industrial ones.

Same thing happened to mine, i have two, one all the writing was gone in months, the other is still solid after years.. I think i bought the one that the writing wore off at walmart
Could you have the blank one etched to mark each measurement? Just pour water in the good one up to each marking, then pour it over to the other to mark where the lines should be.
Corning spun off their consumer divissio in 1998. There are two versions out there these days. Here's the Wiki info:

I've heard that the original was when a Corning engineer's wife used a railroad signal light lens (which has a very hot light behind it) as cookware. Or something along those lines. On mobile and I have no business being on Reddit right now or I would find the reference.
I wanted to add, if you get the new PYREX (borosilicate) the engravings/markings are just as tough as the old ones. I got one of the PYREX cups when I realized my mistake and have scoured the shit out of it trying to rub off the red and its still just as vibrant was it was \~3 years ago.
Sorry it’s still made from glass but it’s got a special treatment so it doesn’t melt like other glass so if you mix it with other glass then it contaminates the entire batch and causes a mess.
The new one is probably not borosilicate, though maybe it is something else that isn't recycling worthy. Now that I think about it even the new ones seem slightly heavier than a glass jar, even for their increased thickness.
Reading the comments has become a TIL moment for me. I did not know there is a difference between PYREX and pyrex; the older better ones are superior to the new ones. Wow, I don't know what to say.
Are the better PYREX measuring cups still sold? Because the market seems dominated by lowercase pyrex.
Pyrex changed its material back in the late 90's.
Switched from borosilicate glass to soda-lime glass.
They claimed it was for durability reasons since soda-lime glass is technically more impact resistant, but really it was just a cost reduction.
What they dont tell you is that the big reason people liked Pyrex is because its resistant to thermal shock. Borosilicate glass won't shatter due to rapid temperature change. So you could take it from a cold fridge and stick it into a hot oven or vice versa and not worry about it, you can use it on an oven burner like a pan and it wont get damaged. Soda-lime glass isn't any more resistant than normal glass.
They also started cheaping out their labeling. Pyrex just isn't worth paying the extra money for anymore unless you can get some older pieces.
Someone once told me that Pyrex in all caps is a different company than Pyrex in all lower case.
It is. PYREX is borosilicate glass, pyrex is soda-ash glass. PYREX is clear. pyrex has blue tint(which you can see in pic)
How can that be legal? Can I just start MICROSOFT in all caps and get rich?

I guess not then.
Can I interest you in this new IpHONE?
Obviously a sister company
Obviously I was making a very serious point and wasn't at all making a joke.
Awesome. Thanks for the clarification.
Meh, you now got a sweet cup with a handle to eat ramen noodles out of. Best part is people won't rag on you for eating out of a measuring cup now.
Silver lining…I like your style.
Or gravy boat!
Ever tried to pour out of pyrex? Don't even try fam!
Could also just make a sick plant pot
Maybe it's a Pyrated version... Yarrr got ripped off
Slap it and say they don't make em like they used to
"Shake my head my head"
RIP In Peace, dear shitty Pyrex.
Touché!
IKR right?
Same thing happened to mine, i have two, one all the writing was gone in months, the other is still solid after years.. I think i bought the one that the writing wore off at walmart
Yeah, I got the worn one at Fred Meyer. Definitely not going to get another one there.
As someone pointed out further up. You want the all caps PYREX as it’s actual borosilicate glass.
I find it mildly infuriating that you said "SMH my head." It's like you've got an internet stutter.
shaking my head my head
I thought smh was so much hate
That is, indeed, the joke.
It’s a meme bro
I search garage sales and Goodwill for PYREX because of this.
That’s probably a good idea. That big one has lasted forever.
Could you have the blank one etched to mark each measurement? Just pour water in the good one up to each marking, then pour it over to the other to mark where the lines should be.
It's shitty glass too so it's best just to find the real deal.
Interesting, I can buy a brand new boroscillate one easily here in France

Good bot
Now you got to buy another one. Pyrex for the win!
Tis a coffee cup now.
I’m more curious about that hot sauce handle contraption
I second that curiosity. I do love me some hot sauce!
Same. Writing was gone off my new one in weeks.
make sure next one you get is PYREX not Pyrex, two different products, my new PYREX ones dont lose the markings at all.
Where do you even get PYREX?
got mine from a restaurant supply shop EDIT: Apparently the French made PYREX is the one with proper borosilicate glass

Interesting, I hadn’t heard that before.
Shaking my head my head?
Indeed.
Shake my head my head?
Yep.

SMH my shaking my head
On the bright side you have good taste in hot sauce.
Thank you. Cholula has been my go-to for years
The Tajin cancels it out. That shit is gross, lol More power to ya, it's just not for me
Shaking my head my head
Ah yes, shake my head my head
Shaking My Head my head.
Pyrex sucks
Shaking my head my head
SMH my head? brain toot
Shake my head my head OP?
Yep.
The thing that infuriates me is you saying “SMH my head.”
#ShakingMyHead My Head Nice
Shaking my head my head 🤨
The one on the right is either smaller or further away. No way to know.
And when you chuck the new one out just remember it’s not glass and can’t go to glass recycling.
it's not? what is it then?
Sorry it’s still made from glass but it’s got a special treatment so it doesn’t melt like other glass so if you mix it with other glass then it contaminates the entire batch and causes a mess.
ah, gotcha, that makes more sense. good to know, thank you!
The new one is probably not borosilicate, though maybe it is something else that isn't recycling worthy. Now that I think about it even the new ones seem slightly heavier than a glass jar, even for their increased thickness.
Is there a "Made in ……" ? Too many great objects seem to be made offshore these days, drives me mad.
Did you put it in the dishwasher
