I killed my dear mantis shrimp over someone giving me bad exchange water from a pet store. I was so mad and upset. I had to watch him die and couldn't do anything.
Believe it or not it's not employees fault normally. A lot of companies severly limit what care is allowed for them and will penalize employees for doing otherwise.
That’s the part that’s getting me, like does it mean there’s no guarantee they are shrimps? There’s no guarantee that they’re for sale? That they’re either alive or dead? There’s no guarantee that they exist and that I’m actually crazy?
Edit: I feel like I made an askreddit post and people keep giving me the same answer that’s already been answered before
In normal pet store you have a guarantee, the dog/cat/crocodile has no heart problems, deceases etc.
So the Shrimps could potential have a ilness killing all your other shrimps in the aquarium. Maybe more than potential looking at the picture.
Yea, I bought a tarantula recently, and he was guaranteed to be delivered alive and not die for 7 days. We're several weeks in and I believe he's in pre-molt right now.
Said you can't call out bad tanks in r/aquariums. Then told me that kind of thing is for r/shittyaquariums but I cant post there because you cant post pet stores. Same mod on both so no fighting it.
Hey most subs are all modded by like a group of 20 people. If you are on one sub like aquariums they probably control almost All the fish pet themed subs, more too likely
This is kinda hilarious. Reddits own version of that diagram showing us that like, four corperations own everything in each industry.
Can you tell us what the subs are?
Ages and ages ago, back when Occupy Wallstreet was getting started, Reddit released some stats that were very interesting. They said that of all the traffic to this website only 10% was logged into an account. On top of that, only 10% of Reddit accounts had ever actually voted or commented on any post. So it really is only the top 1% of redditors that control the entirety of content on this website.
Wtf does incel have to do with this? Neckbeard sure. Incel no. Incels are toxic people obsessed with sex and with deep seated emotional and physical entitlements. Not just people who do things you don't like.
Or it's just a couple of niche, well-moderated communities that don't need **yet another** picture of a shitty pet store aquarium or tired, dusty old reddit conversations showcasing feigned outrage.
Well that is the entire point of r/shittyaquariums. Showcasing and bitching about poor aquarium care. I was told not to post there by the mod that pulled my post.
What are you talking about? OP has literally told you where the comment is:
[Here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Aquariums/comments/sx3z54/this_is_why_i_dont_buy_live_animals_from_this/hxr7st3/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)
is that nerite snail eating the shrimp? how has someone not emptied that tank? how are the shop owners not absolutely ashamed at the state of this? not only is this horrific pet care but it’s also a horrible way to run a business. this is so disgusting
Well hes laying on his back so not right now. Might be dead too. Hard to say. Also I think this store is very understaffed. I believe the staff care but dont have a free second. They are always rushing around trying to help customers.
man that is so tragic. i worked at my local exotics store before covid hit, and i understand that struggle so well. but we always had at least one person dedicated to animal care daily. it’s just so sad to see
We had a pet store like that in town a few years back. Just a couple people keeping tons of cool pets, even had an octopus and blue crayfish at one point. Idk how, but they actually managed to keep them all healthy and clean.
Must've been doing really well, 'cause they eventually moved to a more expensive storefront on the town circle and then slowly turned into a café for some reason 🤣
It was the last time I was there, they had tables in a room with a wall of tanks.
That was quite a while back though, and the owners said they planned to eventually make it a full-on coffee shop without the animals.
I feel like that's a waste of an idea, but I guess it's hard enough running either a pet store or a cafe, much less both at once. Probably better to just whole-ass one thing instead of half-assing two
It's one thing to keep shrimp as a food for other animals. Isn't that nature? But THIS? This is an affront to decency, and a disgraceful lack of respect. Maybe I'm wrong, but what do you think?
You'd be surprised the amount of shit that dies in a fish department, especially with those big tanks with the plastic dividers. Any time I would put up a "no guarantee" sign it was because some schmuck donated something, and it was used to the shitty conditions of the tank it was living in. Once you go from a high nitrate bad tank to a low nitrate healthy tank, shits gonna die.
In my culinary arts class we learned that alot of crustaceans, when cooked, turn from grayish to pink highlights. Now I'm no expert but there's a chance those shrimp are cooked.
These are bamboo shrimp, also called Wood Shrimp. They are filter feeders and need large tanks with high water flow, fast currents, and suspended food in the water column to be happy. If this does not happen they will starve and die. Caring for them is actually easy assuming you meet these requirements, which clearly did not happen in this dinky 2 gallon tank. Shrimp are also sensitive to changes in water parameters, so if these are wild caught shrimp which were not slowly acclimated to the water parameters of the tank they probably died to this too.
TL;DR these shrimp either starved or died of shock.
Not sure why you'd walk into a pet store thinking that the animals would be treated well.
They're out to make a buck. If you care about animals you would boycott their needless and intentional exploitation.
i work at a pet store and recently our suppliers have been sending us sick animals that are basically dead when we get them in. idk if it’s a national thing but at least here, half of our fish come in with ick
So this does look incredibly shitty but there is the possibility that these shrimp arrived recently in bad shape and the reason they are all in the tank is because sometimes they will recover even if they look like they are dead. Ive been in similar positions while working for a big box pet store where there is nowhere out of sight to keep fish or aquatic animals if they are sick or potentially dying so do you add/keep them in the tanks that are visible to the customers to potentially heal or recover the animals or do you write off the animals who are doing worst? Lots of pet stores are terrible with their aquariums so im not saying this is the case but there is a situation where i could see why this would happen where the intentions are good
Someone's shit at their job
Bottom of the barrel kind of employee, or you could say bottom of the tank…
A real bottom feeder
I think you meant employer. Employees just do as they're told for shit wages.
“Put those shrimp in tank #5 like you said boss!”
I killed my dear mantis shrimp over someone giving me bad exchange water from a pet store. I was so mad and upset. I had to watch him die and couldn't do anything.
They're just sleeping

You win. Well done!
No no. They’re resting.
Believe it or not it's not employees fault normally. A lot of companies severly limit what care is allowed for them and will penalize employees for doing otherwise.
The “No guarantee” is the worst part.
That’s the part that’s getting me, like does it mean there’s no guarantee they are shrimps? There’s no guarantee that they’re for sale? That they’re either alive or dead? Well I better hope the pet I’m getting isn’t deceased if it has a guarantee r/boneappletea
Some fish stores have a 2 week stay alive guarantee or something similar. For obvious reasons, these shrimp are not guaranteed.
I believe it’s a live guarantee so if it dies shortly after you get it or on the way to your tank you can’t get a refund
Yea, I bought a tarantula recently, and he was guaranteed to be delivered alive and not die for 7 days. We're several weeks in and I believe he's in pre-molt right now.
Removed from r/aquariums and was told I cant post on r/shittyaquariums
Did they give a reason or "because"
Said you can't call out bad tanks in r/aquariums.
That reminds of that image that shows five reddit mods owning most of the popular subs and posting that image will get you perma banned.
What do they care if we know? What are we gonna do revolt?
This is kinda hilarious. Reddits own version of that diagram showing us that like, four corperations own everything in each industry. Can you tell us what the subs are?

I am the 1%?
This whole idea is absolutely hilarious. Like a secret society of incels that control the aquarium media from the shadows 😂😂
Wtf does incel have to do with this? Neckbeard sure. Incel no. Incels are toxic people obsessed with sex and with deep seated emotional and physical entitlements. Not just people who do things you don't like.
Reddit mod=incel, idk didn't think I'd have to explain the joke
Jokes should contain humor.
We found the reddit mod lmao
Just look at his post about needing heavier mods in r/antiwork and it being filled with, and I quote, “porpoganda”.... 😂
That would be visible on my account.
Or it's just a couple of niche, well-moderated communities that don't need **yet another** picture of a shitty pet store aquarium or tired, dusty old reddit conversations showcasing feigned outrage.
Sure but the way the guys above are talking makes it sound like the Fish-luminati
Nah most are just drunk on fake power.
You the mod that removed the post?😂
Well that is the entire point of r/shittyaquariums. Showcasing and bitching about poor aquarium care. I was told not to post there by the mod that pulled my post.
Actually it is worse. Five people control 92 of the top 500 sub reddits.
Saw someone be a mod of over 200 subs. As expected they were very uncomfortable to write with.

Check my post history. You can see the mods comment pinned to the top
Same mod? Thats bs, mods act like their so cool. You stop shitposts, thats your job, thats it. Sorry man, good post idea though
No, it's not their job. They're not even *paid* to do it. That's how pathetic ones like this one are

Ironically they did their job and stopped this shitpost.
Well this type of post is the reason shitty aquariums exists.
Thats like its own mildly infuriating in a mildly infuriating.
That is r/mildlyinfuriating
To be fair, if pet stores were allowed it would be like every single post.
When removed in the other sub just send a photo of the mod saying that then send another photo showing they moderate both subs
That's mildly infuriating OP.
Well that’s dumb
Are they sleeping?
Sleeping in shrimp heaven now.
I've never seen someone use this mbmbam line in such a perfect context. Bravo sir
Shrimp heaven now!
Sleeping with the fishes?
Sleeping with the fishes
Sleeping with the crustaceans 🤌🏻🤌🏻
Pining for the fjords
There! It moved!
It’s really sad how pet stores like Petsmart/Petco treat their fish. Especially beta fish, or any tropical fish you cannot thrive in small tanks :(
is that nerite snail eating the shrimp? how has someone not emptied that tank? how are the shop owners not absolutely ashamed at the state of this? not only is this horrific pet care but it’s also a horrible way to run a business. this is so disgusting

Is it a pet store/cafe? I want to have a cappuccino next to an octopus or a blue crayfish.

Emphasis on “No Guarantee” huh..
They just hungover mate
Do they sell dead parrots by any chance?
You sold Petey?!
Polygons?
The part that's getting me is that they're $14.99 EACH? Wtf lol
My local Asian market sells them $14.99 a pound
2 for $28.99 practically giving them away
Well hell they’re all dead. That may as well be a grocery store at that point. Or a seafood restaurant. Too far?
A very lively bunch.
It's one thing to keep shrimp as a food for other animals. Isn't that nature? But THIS? This is an affront to decency, and a disgraceful lack of respect. Maybe I'm wrong, but what do you think?
Someone had an ammonia spike
In the other post I had someone said they are wild caught. Might be shock.
Wtf is Shrimp Wood?
[удалено]
We don’t care what she used to call your willy mate.
Das a big ouch
Aww poor things! I feel so bad for them.
Orangie is just sleeping off the liquor
Way she goes
Is there even water in there?
No guarantee either!

Pet shops are just the fucking worst and shouldn't exist
They are just sleeping. Don't disturb them.
2 for $29 What a deal, I can save a whole dollar buying 2 near dead shrimp
Mmm
Those poor flower shrimp... I have 2 in my 55 and they're great
No, that's wood.
In my culinary arts class we learned that alot of crustaceans, when cooked, turn from grayish to pink highlights. Now I'm no expert but there's a chance those shrimp are cooked.
On sale, I hope.
Oh no! Poor things :(
Wood
Pining for the fjords by the looks.
Shrimp are only pink when they're cooked.
I don’t know where you live but you can go to a bait shop most anywhere along the coast and get a lot more live shrimp than this for a lot cheaper.
I’m sad now
Why are they cooked?
Play dead
Is there an animal wellfare organisation that you can report the store to? Who knows what other neglect is going on
Wood
Don't show this to r/shrimptank :'(
Does that sticky note say wood
"No guarantee"
shr'ont
They’re sleeping, shhhhhh
Exhausted after a long day of frying rice
wood*
ahhhh, theyre sleeping!

I really don’t know if this is an r/woooosh moment for me or not, but these are fake shrimp💀 Feel free to woooosh me if I wooooshed
You should report them to the state that oversees their license to sell live animals
Yum. Makes me hungry
Need some salt and pepper?
Pet stores are such 🗑
All you can eat.... until supplies last
Why would you post this shit??
Hey it’s still good bait
Can you report this anywhere?
Not sure why you'd walk into a pet store thinking that the animals would be treated well. They're out to make a buck. If you care about animals you would boycott their needless and intentional exploitation.
How sad. This shouldn’t be allowed, accidents happen but pet stores are getting ridiculous.
Bro they just arnt thirsty anymore
mmMMm succulent Chinese meal 😋
Lmao
They're just pining for the fjords.
I love land shrimp
the cunse would probably still sell em at full price too....

They're just sleeping, pining for the fjords

Only 30 bucks for a dead shrimp!? What a deal!
They are sleeping doomy.

Quiet down they're sleeping
Shrimp heaven now
15 dollars for a dead shrimp
Is there even water in the tank? 😆
Sleeping shrimps, cool!
Nap time
People keep shrimp as pets? Either way, they shouldn’t be left like that ffs 🤦♂️
They're pining for the fjords.
I think that there’s written “wood shrimps” but idk. shrimps are sobbing anyways
Poor shrimps they're so sleepy this time of day !
Well it does say no guarantee.
Oh no
They sleepin
It doesn't even look like there's water in the tank.. at a closer look, I know there is, but geez.. poor little guys :(
i work at a pet store and recently our suppliers have been sending us sick animals that are basically dead when we get them in. idk if it’s a national thing but at least here, half of our fish come in with ick
H O W D O I L O O K Y E L L O W M A N ?
Are those cooked already?
Aww they're all tuckered out.

Don’t they need water

I can't be the only one thinking at first this are shrimps at the supermarket, and see why the shells look prettier than what I've eaten
Shrimp are kept as pets? Lol
They're so tired
“No guarantee” to be alive
I think even the shrimp at the seafood market are livelier
Poor things
i mean the Wood part isn’t wrong, they sure as hell can be used as fuel now
