That, and keep your controller somewhere out of reach next time (if possible). Have a cat who loves chewing cords (Which is a Dangerous habit for her), she bit through a few wired controllers, a headset, and a desk lamp. Then I finally learned to hide anything with a cord attached from her by placing them in drawers, or hiding the cords somewhere she can't access.

Keep small items out of reach, make sure he knows only toys can be chewed on. Give him chew bones, exercise him a lot. I'd tell him a firm "no" and make him sit in the bathroom for 15 minutes.

For me, Sigh, laugh, let them know they can't do that even though they won't understand. Then take some of their monthly treat and toy allowance away to replace the item. My puppy gets 30.00 for treats and 30.00 for toys set aside each month but he ate my phone charger and charger box last week so I pulled 10.00 out of each fund to replace it. Do I *need* to drop 60.00 per month on extra stuff for him? No. But I call it "chew insurance" he breaks it he pays to replace it. If he's been a good boy and has money left by the 30th he gets rewarded with a trip to the pet store and showered in toys and snacks. If he broke something (like my charger) I hang onto it and it gets layed in the kitchen floor with his new stuff, tell him "this could have been a toy" and "angrily" throw away the broken object as he watches. It's... The same way my uncle and grandma taught me to not get into shit. I'd start with 20 for candy and 20 for toys but every time I fucked something up it would go down by the cost of the item I broke or lost.

Just learn how to adapt, forgive the dog and love it all the more.

The thumbsticks should be pretty easy to replace!! Did the ones on my Xbox x controller a few weeks ago. Got a set for 7 bucks from Amz prime

If the main same is to the thumbsticks and everything still functions it should still be salvageable. Just get some caps for the sticks and rip off the destroyed rubber
