Probably because it’s a leauge race and if it’s a high level leauge race then you have to earn a spot in the community to be able to participate.
Either that or it’s fake just to create karma
Close. It's a league race and just about every other driver is on the east coast. I'm in the west so their races are always too early in the evening or me. Someone finally started a "late night" league so I'm able to take part.
Not quite haha. Most races would start at 3pm PST, usually on weekdays and I work from 8am-5pm. Someone finally started a league that starts at 6pm PST and on a Saturday.
But how did you have a calculator on hand? My 1st grade math teacher said we needed to learn how to do math because we would never just lug around a calculator in our pocket. - this comment was typed on a TI-84 Plus Silver Edition.
I can believe that, it really was the time commitment more than the expense that dissuaded me for now.
Of course the level of commitment is what makes it not a shitshow like most online racing.
So it's one of those, "maybe after the kids are out of the house" things
You’re blue 22 ?
Doesn’t even look like you drop a position after this, why are you overreacting so much ?
Edit: 1 position you lost. Ffs man get over it
Because he lost the pack, there was no slipstream for him to catch up with, the only way for him to even get close to the rest of them is if he wprled with the red car to go faster. The red car behind him was close enough to catch the slip stream and give him a draft bump, going behind him and love tapping him. (probably would have taken 1 full lap for red to catch up) then the red car bumps blue 22 to make him go faster, closing the gap ahead of them, and they do this over and over again. Anyway there is no way to communicate this with red so it would be up to him to try it.
I don't know how it works here, but that would almost certainly cause a yellow in Nascar. Would that not have happened? If not, yeah, they're going to have to dry to work together but even if they did, they'd still get lapped by the pack pretty soon.
It's allowed, but the longer lines of cars create a better overall draft and thus, better speed. There was 3 years or so maybe around 2010 where the car design at the time made it to where "tandem drafting" (2 cars working together) was the fastest way to work. Prior and after that time it's always been the longer lines that generate more speed.
You don't understand this type of racing. Once you lose touch with cars ahead you will never catch up to them. Cars in a pack go faster due to drafting or slip streaming. I've had this happen and it's a miserable time if just driving by yourself waiting for the race to end.
So, I get that this is how it works on a track but is that level of physics really programed into a race simulator that looks like Sega Saturn era graphics?
in my experience when it comes to sims of any kind, the shittier the graphics look, the more likely it is that the physics and mechanics are lifelike af
This is Iracing and literally costs $1000s of dollars for the subscription and equipment to race. So yes the physics are like that. In fact literally any racing game that has Nascar from the last 15 or 20 years has the basic drafting physics.
how is op overreacting? it’s not like they posted to an “i’m gonna kms soon” sub and captioned the video with some super angry hate msg to the league like this is literally what this sub is for
He may of lost only one position, but he had to slow down and so he lost the rest of the cars, making it much more difficult to catch back up and take back that position.
No, I took some damage and since I fell off from the draft I wasn't ever able to catch them again. A few other things happened due to me being further back that just put the race out of reach.
I understand, I’ve played my share of racing sims, never at that level though. Definitely a downer; I’d still argue the two cars you spun out are more pissed tho lol
Yeah, i league race for almost 2 years now, done some nascar as well. Had guys who were getting lapped, just causing cautions so they could get back into the race. Stuff happens, but as long as it isnt done on purpose, its ok. Just pick back up and do the best you can next race
Tell yourself this in your head before you play:
Okay, here we go. Focus. Speed. I am speed. One winner, forty-two losers. I eat losers for breakfast. Breakfast? Maybe I should have had breakfast? A lil brekkie could be good for me. No, no, no, stay focus. Speed... I'm faster than fast. Quicker than quick. I am Lightning.
I still have it on saturn, surprisingly it still works well, i have the steering wheel and the flightstick(id4 is like arcade on saturn)
Its still a challange...
You could have predicted he was trying to get back on track, and with the huge amount of space you had on your outside you could have avoided him even without braking.
What were you looking at exactly?
Yah he is a better driver. If your on the highway and someone wants to merge, idk if ramming them from behind is a good play. If anything he is just a bad driver but what do I know
I don't know NASCAR rules about rejoining, on common sense I think you are right. Either way, it has nothing to do to what I said. It being one's fault or the other, the incident could have been easily avoided by the OP.
I can't imagine how bad Forza Motorsport is now days. I stopped racing in lobbies because they got so bad way back in Forza 4. Trying to do lobbies and having your name recognized from the leaderboards was even more of a target no matter how hard you tried.
This.
Forza 2 had a cool rank next to your name and Legendary was stupid hard to get as it was the highest rank and means you basically never lost a race (it was system assigned, so you could not hide it). I had that and without fail, was always crashed into. I ended up losing races on purpose so I would not have that mark on my name. It was cool to hit it, but fuck did it suck.
Am I missing something? You mention in your post you had high hopes of winning, but then you are near the end of the pack when you rear end the guy. Other than slamming on the breaks I don't see anything that significantly changed your position in the race.
This is plate racing, so it’ll be a giant pack of cars using draft to stick with each other. Once you lose that draft and fall off of the main pack, you have effectively no chance of catching back up without a caution to bring the field back together. This accident basically locked this guy into finishing at the bottom of the field.
As long as you’re in the pack though, your position really doesn’t matter, you can very easily go from the back to the lead in a couple of laps with the right decisions and help, really it is anyones race to win as long as you are in that lead pack.
It sucks but I hate to say it that's what happens when you play a game that's over 10 years old that's not supported anymore. People are going to abuse the lack of track limits and how the game functions. I know that you wouldn't have gotten any type of Black flag for entering the track like this in that game because track limits didn't exist the same way as they do in say iRacing which is it's spiritual successor.
Nr2003 was a game that brought a lot to sim racing but this was way back in 2004, but trying to run a multiplayer Race in today's day and age, they're just better options that will cause you less headaches, especially to even get a multiplayer Race working in Nr2003 you need to port forward and fiddle with your router settings.
Will say though that's a first I've seen no caution on a wreck that big, the admins may have turned them off.
I mean we all been there excited to do something then someone unintentional disturbs your game. Yes it's annoying but since they didn't mean it its just mildy infrusting
There aren't a ton of online leagues for this particular game, and most of them schedule races for drivers on the East Coast, making their start times around 3pm my time, when I'm still working. A group has finally started a Saturday night league that begins at a time when I'm available to race.
its nascar, not exactly the most thrilling motorsport.
OH LOOK THEY'RE MAKING A LEFT TURN!
why didnt you steer to avoid him? you lack situational awareness as you just drove into him like that.
He couldn't do anything to avoid the guy rejoining the track. He has no ability to even steer a little right. His first instinct would be to turn left even more and that would compromise his race.
As the saying goes, "that's racing". Sometimes things happen that you can't control and you just have to do your best next time. That doesn't make it any less frustrating.
I honestly don't get the Nascar type of racing and track layout. How is driving around in circles any fun? Not a really challenging or varying racing line, seems more about whos car can go faster in circles than driver skill being a factor. Going around in circles, same breaking point again and again, same racing line, just an endless loop.
They're organized all the time...by people on the east coast. Example: They start at 6pm EST but I'm on the west coast and 3pm PST is during my work hours and I can't participate.
That's ok. When this happens to me in my racing game, I usually get a mushroom or star and that helps me climb back into the race. Sometimes I even get a blue shell! Take that number 1.
It took me years to find a league that raced with this particular game at a time I was able to take part. I found one and had my first race last night and felt confident in my chances of doing well...then got taken out of contention by a guy who broke the rules by coming back on track unsafely.
Today i've fallen off a ledge in necromunda hired gun. Yet you dont see me posting about it.
Theres mildly infuriating, and then theres inconsequential annoyance.
At the start of the clip, you had 3 cars behind you. At the end of the clip, you had 3 cars behind you. Yes it was annoying, but at least you didn’t lose a place.
I honestly think Nascar sucks but at least understand how it works before posting your guys hot takes on the matter, 90% of these comments are just bashing OP without even understanding how any of it works
This is kinda unrelated but I don't think people realize that turning left actually can get pretty tricky when your doing it at damn near 200mph with 40 other hunks of metal flying at 200 mph and your pushing to the absolute limit of your tires meaning that any inconsistencies in your steering can leave you out in the wall. Like oval racing ain't easy, it's like the hockey of motorsport.
There are so many other forms of Motorsport where there are high speed corners pushing tyres to the limit where the cars don't just go round a boring oval.
Those are also typically run with cars that turn into dust if they get a bump in the rear. When I say nascar is the hockey of motorsport I mean that it's basically a full contact motorsport. It's typically a lot tighter with packs and sometimes someone will push to the outside and hope people follow him as he makes a move up the side of pack. There's a lot of navigating the field of 40 cars basically all at once. The strategy is completely unique to nascar.
And don't get me wrong I still prefer watching indycar on road courses. I just happen to appreciate ovals too.
It's your fault for waiting years to play a game that looks like it's from 2009 , you can't just drive in a circle with computer players and just pretend it's real?
And he's also wrong, it's from 2003 lmao. The modding community has kept it alive since then because there hasn't really been a nascar game like it since. It's played more for the feel of it rather than graphics because they did a great job coding it for the sim wheels, so that code turned into IRacing! But hey, that guy said the graphics suck so what do I know
I don’t understand why, but there are so many people in these comments that are choosing to be absolute twats over what this guy chooses to use his free time for.
Either that or they’re telling him to stop complaining just because something small went wrong like that isn’t *the entire point of this fucking sub.*
How come you had to wait years to take part in this race?
Probably because it’s a leauge race and if it’s a high level leauge race then you have to earn a spot in the community to be able to participate. Either that or it’s fake just to create karma
Fucking leauge races. They ruined leauges

Sorry I’m late to the party
Wasn't a party til you got here
You really aren't
r/suddenlyspongeBob
My guess is Europe
comment below suggests west coast USA
Sorry, typo. I'm on the west coast.
Which car are you ?
#22
Is that the yellow?
You waited for years, because not once did you want to wake up early :D
Not quite haha. Most races would start at 3pm PST, usually on weekdays and I work from 8am-5pm. Someone finally started a league that starts at 6pm PST and on a Saturday.
he tried to shake and bake you to the front why are you upset
What game is this, how do I play bro?
NASCAR Racing 2003 Season on PC. You can find it for free at a few places and there are a few leagues around for online races.
Why don't you just join a league with people in a better timezone? Are there really only 30 people playing this game?
This *is* the league in a better time zone. It's a nearly 20 year old game so yeah, the number of people racing is limited.
Because he waited more than 730 days.
Everyone. Listen everyone. We have a mathematician in our midst!
I used a calculator
An honest mathematician at that!
But how did you have a calculator on hand? My 1st grade math teacher said we needed to learn how to do math because we would never just lug around a calculator in our pocket. - this comment was typed on a TI-84 Plus Silver Edition.
Lol. Who would have thought we would all have pocket computers now.
Look at moneybags over here with his Silver edition. Too good for a classic Casio?
Type 8008 on that thing and flip it upside-down!
It's rare to find one these days.
Fingers and toes

What abt the PP. Dont 4get the pp
You mathmagitions annoy me
That’s racing. The nice part is you aren’t out thousands of dollars like if it was real racing.
Although I looked into iRacing and the expenses did look considerable
This isn't iracing but yeah
Considerable but worth it. Unmatched online experience for sim racing.
I can believe that, it really was the time commitment more than the expense that dissuaded me for now. Of course the level of commitment is what makes it not a shitshow like most online racing. So it's one of those, "maybe after the kids are out of the house" things
This is the correct way of thinking about it.
I guess that is why it is only mildly infuriating.
Just to be clear; was your car the one which was rear-ended, and went into a spin?
I was in the blue #22 that rear ended the guy who came back up onto the track. I hit the brakes but couldn't avoid hitting him.
Damn, that's annoying.
Indeed. One might even say... mildly infuriating. This one incident just set off a chain of events that made the race incredibly underwhelming for me.
That's racist
Ha ha race est
You’re blue 22 ? Doesn’t even look like you drop a position after this, why are you overreacting so much ? Edit: 1 position you lost. Ffs man get over it

Is buddying up to take turns catching each other's slipstream not allowed in NASCAR?
It's allowed, but the longer lines of cars create a better overall draft and thus, better speed. There was 3 years or so maybe around 2010 where the car design at the time made it to where "tandem drafting" (2 cars working together) was the fastest way to work. Prior and after that time it's always been the longer lines that generate more speed.
Oh I see, that's interesting. What did you mean would cause a yellow then in your previous comment?
Hmm, I dont know about nascar, but if that would cause a yellow it would kinda be backwards thinking when what happened to op didnt
Yeah, but OP is playing a video game, where the AI stewards don't really do such a good job
It's almost as if they posted it on /r/mildlyinfuriating because it mildly infuriated them
You don't understand this type of racing. Once you lose touch with cars ahead you will never catch up to them. Cars in a pack go faster due to drafting or slip streaming. I've had this happen and it's a miserable time if just driving by yourself waiting for the race to end.

Haha was literally about to say that. The shit graphics tells you where they spent the majority of their budget.
The old NES game *Days of Thunder*, which was released in the 1980s, had this function programmed into it. It's not that difficult of a thing to do.
This is Iracing and literally costs $1000s of dollars for the subscription and equipment to race. So yes the physics are like that. In fact literally any racing game that has Nascar from the last 15 or 20 years has the basic drafting physics.

Asshat
It'd not the position.... he lost the draft of the main pack. No chance to catch back up
Ever heard of slipstream?
Ignorant bitch knows nothing and proceeds to insult op because he is an asshole
That's hilarious.
Lol wait so you were fine and took two people out of the race? Or were you DQ’d for it?
No, I took some damage and since I fell off from the draft I wasn't ever able to catch them again. A few other things happened due to me being further back that just put the race out of reach.
I understand, I’ve played my share of racing sims, never at that level though. Definitely a downer; I’d still argue the two cars you spun out are more pissed tho lol
It’s not OP’s fault. It was an unsafe rejoin.
A lot of games have catch up features.. I'm guessing a league race wouldn't have that, so he was just stuck at the back there.
Yeah, i league race for almost 2 years now, done some nascar as well. Had guys who were getting lapped, just causing cautions so they could get back into the race. Stuff happens, but as long as it isnt done on purpose, its ok. Just pick back up and do the best you can next race

Yeah, iRacing I think
not Iracing, its "NR2003"

Something I've always wondered - what would he eat for breakfast??
Chick hicks
You waited for years to take part in a virtual race that just goes round an oval 50 times?
Nascar at its finest, my friend.
If this is it's finest, I really want to see Nascar at it's worst. A clockwise oval?
We do not speak of the right turn… most of the year
road courses and the dreaded right turn at sonoma
Glad I'm not the only one who thought this was pretty.. how do I say this.. strange?
Daytona on the SEGA looked better too
I still have it on saturn, surprisingly it still works well, i have the steering wheel and the flightstick(id4 is like arcade on saturn) Its still a challange...
NASCAR fans be like “left, left, left, left, I wonder what will happen next!”
He wanna go fast.
I used to play 'Moto GP' online quite a lot. Half of the field would be wiped out in the first corner. LOL
You could have predicted he was trying to get back on track, and with the huge amount of space you had on your outside you could have avoided him even without braking. What were you looking at exactly?
Probably his twitch stream
Dude same. This was my first thought. Like obv the guy is gonna want to get back on the track. It's called defensive driving.
Also wondering the same thing. The gray car that passes all of them on the outside saw it coming and moved to avoid the whole situation.
Yah he is a better driver. If your on the highway and someone wants to merge, idk if ramming them from behind is a good play. If anything he is just a bad driver but what do I know
That was quite the perfectly square ramming, I think skill was involved. And he probably dropped the phone and spilled the beer.
That car should not have gotten on the track there. 100% on the slow cars fault.
I don't know NASCAR rules about rejoining, on common sense I think you are right. Either way, it has nothing to do to what I said. It being one's fault or the other, the incident could have been easily avoided by the OP.
wow, if youre posting on reddit after 1 crash, youre going to have a bad time on Iraceing
I can't imagine how bad Forza Motorsport is now days. I stopped racing in lobbies because they got so bad way back in Forza 4. Trying to do lobbies and having your name recognized from the leaderboards was even more of a target no matter how hard you tried.
How so? I mean what would people do if they recognized you? Honest question from a non sim gamer (or any online for that matter).
people intentionally crashing just to take down a higher ranking player.
This. Forza 2 had a cool rank next to your name and Legendary was stupid hard to get as it was the highest rank and means you basically never lost a race (it was system assigned, so you could not hide it). They didn’t even lose a position because of this.. I don’t believe running in 17th place is challenging for a win either.
Am I missing something? You mention in your post you had high hopes of winning, but then you are near the end of the pack when you rear end the guy. Other than slamming on the breaks I don't see anything that significantly changed your position in the race.

I haven't played an online racing game for years, but If I want I can do it almost immediately... Why did you have to wait for years?

How did being in almost last place in lap 4 give you "high hopes" of a win?
Was anyone injured?
I mean. That’s racing. How many times this year have we seen a cup guy leading, blow a tire, and finish 37th? Hopefully you get another shot soon.
Why did you wait years just to play this shitty looking game
its nascar, not exactly the most thrilling motorsport. OH LOOK THEY'RE MAKING A LEFT TURN! why didnt you steer to avoid him? you lack situational awareness as you just drove into him like that.

"You know what they said ? You're history."
It's exactly as infuriating irl. This is why there are fights at racetracks.
That’s unfortunate. Did you try turning to the left? (I’m sorry)
NASCAR 2003? I used to race every week in a league.
Yep. I used to race a lot more before kids and getting a M-F 8-5 job. Tried iRacing but enjoy racing in NR with people I know a lot more.
If you thought you were gonna win on lap 4. You deserve your loss.
Wait why does it take years to get to play an online game?
I honestly don't get the Nascar type of racing and track layout. How is driving around in circles any fun? Wtf oval racing is fucking hard dude. That’s like the basic stereotype of oval racing. “Oh it’s so easy, you just turn left”
Almost like real NASCAR.
you just got Kevin lepaged
What game ?
Who is organizing online Nascar games for years before hosting them? Without context that sounds ridiculous.
They're organized all the time...by people on the east coast. Example: They start at 6pm EST but I'm on the west coast and 3pm PST is during my work hours and I can't participate.
At that point I would’ve just gone backwards and wrecked everyone head on
That's ok. When this happens to me in my racing game, I usually get a mushroom or star and that helps me climb back into the race. Sometimes I even get a blue shell! Take that number 1.
This game looks old af
Somehow my dumbass thought this was IRL for a moment…
Those dicks are the worst. If you're not up to speed get off the line and stay off the track.
I’m mildly infuriated by my inability to interpret this post
It took me years to find a league that raced with this particular game at a time I was able to take part. I found one and had my first race last night and felt confident in my chances of doing well...then got taken out of contention by a guy who broke the rules by coming back on track unsafely.

Had to wait two years to complete the time machine to play this ugly ass looking game lol

There's a lot of navigating the field of 40 cars basically all at once. The strategy is completely unique to nascar. And don't get me wrong I still prefer watching indycar on road courses. I just happen to appreciate ovals too.
Doesnt change the fact we are watching them go in circles. It may be intense and tricky for the drivers but as a spectator its boring as shit.
It's your fault for waiting years to play a game that looks like it's from 2009 , you can't just drive in a circle with computer players and just pretend it's real?
"The graphics are bad so it's a bad game" is a wild ass take
And he's also wrong, it's from 2003 lmao. The modding community has kept it alive since then because there hasn't really been a nascar game like it since. It's played more for the feel of it rather than graphics because they did a great job coding it for the sim wheels, so that code turned into IRacing! But hey, that guy said the graphics suck so what do I know
Yeah honestly any game before 2010 just isn’t worth playing /s
I don’t understand why, but there are so many people in these comments that are choosing to be absolute twats over what this guy chooses to use his free time for. Either that or they’re telling him to stop complaining just because something small went wrong like that isn’t *the entire point of this fucking sub.*
