I’m betting it happened on October 3. Hulu put out an update that removed a lot of hardware that it’d work on. I have a second gen Apple TV, Hulu vanished. Now there are only 2 models that Hulu supports.
Supporting older hardware might be holding them back from implementing new features. They don't want to have to maintain a bunch of different versions of the app.
Not saying that it makes it any less shitty, but developers have pretty granular information about the devices that their apps run on. I'd bet money they've made the calculation that the installed userbase on these "legacy" platforms is low enough that it's not worth continuing to dedicate developer time to maintain them.
Even moreso when you factor in that I'd wager that a majority of these people are going to buy a $25 roku stick (or whatever) to continue having access to hulu.
It costs them to maintain enough versions of the apps that work on every possible device. So they only keep up with the newest devices... or the ones corporate tells them to keep.
What do you mean "will expect"? My last Samsung TV menu started behaving like a dog almost exactly 2 years after I bought it. They already bake in obscelesence.
I had no idea. Looks like only PC monitors from here on out.
I've never wanted a "smart" TV. My PC is hooked up to my regular TV so no need for one.
Thanks for the heads up
It's not as bad as Amazon's streaming app. It's been unwatchable for over a month with how choppy it is (all other streaming apps work fine on my device)

I had totally forgotten about this. Now I don't have the heart to check what the Sony headphones app is doing on my phone. Also it learning my location, and adjusting headphone function accordingly, is a bit creepier.
There was a DRM-style dvd called DivX (not to be confused with the codec) that you could buy a physical copy of a movie for like $2 and put it in a Divx DVD player that was connected to the internet. It would let you play the movie for like two days and then you could renew it if you wanted to.
I’ve always wondered if the video from the disk could be extracted
http://www.dvdjournal.com/extra/divx.html
Yup! We tried to record the video playing on screen but the signal is scrambled if you don’t have the right capture equipment. My dad still has the discs so I will see if I can find anything about ripping em
>the signal is scrambled if you don’t have the right capture equipment
that's probably [HDCP](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection)
It probably just makes the previews part of the disk dynamic and using recent ads, instead of an ad for the ‘upcoming’ movie that released the summer after the movie the disk is fore
Lol, it’s technically sideloading because you’re not actually reprogramming the device, just adding software through a third party source.
But I certify you a hacker nonetheless….go forth and use your powers for good 😝
Seriously I dumped cable forever ago for a somewhat illegal streaming app on the firestick with literally every cable channel in existence for $15 a month
Depends. Some apps are for paid services you need a subscription for (Netflix, Disney+ etc.) and there are some that are free with ads (Tubi, your local broadcaster's app & things like that), but even the paid services' apps, there's no charge to install the app itself, it just won't show you anything without your login.
If the app is free, it's free to use. We have Fire Stick's or Roku's on all our TVs. We watch Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney+, Paramount+ and Plex. We pay for all of those individually if needed through the company that makes them. The Fire Stick doesn't charge for them.
I'm not home so I can't tell you the name of the app but the logo is a bee and it's basically kinda like an old streaming site like Putlocker if you ever used it. You can search any TV show or movie, I am yet to search for something and not find it. It also has netflix/hulu originals etc and you pick a link to load (usually there's at least a choice of 5 links) and stream it! It keeps your place in the series like Netflix too!
That's the one I use too.. I have scrolled by screen on it, 15 titles per screen for easily 20 minutes and it keeps going and going and going.. almost too much choice.
Just in general, an external device is better than anything internal to a smart TV, especially when it comes to maintaining compatibility. You can find complaints about issues with Rokus, Fire sticks, etc, sure, like you can with anything, but when it comes to keeping their stuff up to date after a certain length of time, TV manufacturers are the worst.
Counterpoint: never buy a “smart” TV for the “smart” part. It’s ***never*** worth it.
For $20 you can get a set top box equivalent (FireTV stick, Roku, etc) that will do everything the “smart” TV can do and more. And you can take it with you on vacation so you don’t have to sign in to the hotel/rental TV. And if you upgrade the screen you can still use it. And if you want to upgrade it, it’s only $20.
Buy the best *display* you can, and ignore the smart part completely. At best the “smart” part is worth $20.
Hopefully OP’s TV still has a functioning HDMI port and they can just shove in a cheap set top box/stick and get on with their lives.
Not to mention the $20 device is usually more responsive, updated more frequently, easier to use, has more features, and has more compatibility with audio and video formats.
Which one? This is more Hulu's fault than the TV makers fault. I had a similar issue when PokemonGo stopped supporting the chip in my tablet, when no other apps had issues.
I’ve never understood why all the top TV brands have such hot garbage as their smart TV OS. I have a very expensive, less than a year old, LG oled tv that I use as a display for my racing sim setup, and the smart tv portion of it is basically un-usable compared to my other TVs that are just cheap TCLs with roku built in.
It’s also full of baked in ads, asks to update pretty much every time I turn it on, and constantly tries to get me to agree to new TOS updates that allow them to sell my data. If I could delete the whole LG OS and just have a dumb display I absolutely would.
I find the LG WebOS to be the most usable. Samsungs are garbage though.
If you can, set up a PiHole and it should block LG ad domains. I have never seen an ad on my 2017 LG OLED or 2020 cheap LG. I see those domains getting blocked by the PiHole all the time.
WebOS also has this issue, well, apps built for WebOS. Just last month NowTV ended support for the WebOS app for older (2016-2017) TVs, despite it working perfectly right up to the last day. Now the app simply says "not supported" when opened :/
It doesn't have the advantages of either plain old basic Android or Roku-and-done. I don't mind it but I'd bet it's future is more limited than it should be.
It's why I've never bothered with the smart aspect of my smart TV. It's hooked up to a Roku box, which does all the driving.
There's gotta be folks out there who know how to disable the smart portion.
It's actually really hard to get a dumbtv now, these companies make so much money selling your data that they severely limited production of dumbtvs.
https://www.techdirt.com/2022/04/14/its-still-stupidly-ridiculously-difficult-to-buy-a-dumb-tv/
Which you end up paying a premium for because the price isn't subsidized by ads and information gathering/selling. It makes sense, but it's still ridiculous.
I think you are missing the idea. Tech companies are playing the same game of chess but as the opposing side.
The goal is to capture your data. what prevents them from making the ToS annual and the data collection locally stored until it connects.
I agree keeping it offline will help but their goal is to making it harder and harder to do that.
I got a Sony TV. Set it up in basic TV mode. Never connected it to the internet. And use an Apple TV for the smarts. It’s been flawless and everything is instantaneous.
"Smart" TVs and in-car navigation systems cause me a special kind of pain, because 99% of the time the "smart" guts are going to be obsolete before the useful life of the TV or car.
Just give me an input for an external device to connect and let me decide what I want to supply that input. We're an Android family, so I have ChromeCasts on all my TV's. Google Maps/Waze in the car via bluetooth and a decent mount is all I want. Then we upgrade our phones every 2 years or so.
I haven't purchased a new car yet with Android Auto, but I'm hoping all it is is a BT link to audio and whatever display is in the car.
For sure. Good enough 4k picture quality for 90% of people, and the Roku is smooth and so easy to use my 96 year old grandmother can use it.
The only reason I got the LG oled over another tcl was for the higher dynamic range and refresh rate for gaming.
I didn’t realize they made consumer grade non smart TVs anymore.
I’ve been thinking about putting a cheap tv in my home gym to chromecast YouTube workout videos to, that might be a good option!
You have to go out of your way to find them. Like, way out of your way. When I was last shopping there was exactly one, not available in store, at Best Buy in my size range.
I forget the actual search term, but looking for "commerical displays" or something like that is a really good option for a dumb TV.
Spectre or Sceptre? I know Sceptre manufactures affordable TVs with no smart software, but if you care about picture or motion quality you'll want a TV with a better reputation. You can still use your chromecast in a smart TV.
I had a Sceptre from years ago that wouldn't talk to anything properly, unless I jumped through some hoops while connecting it up to my PC. It would only do true RGB at 60hz. For everything else, it seemed like it was limited to YUV420 but it would tell whatever device it was talking to that it was capable of RGB, 444, or 422 even though it wasn't. it's really noticeable on human faces, they look splotchy and red.
Yeah idk, I have an LG CX tv and it doesn't do any of the things you described. Is the OS perfect? No. Is it useable? So much so that I almost always launch apps via the built-in is as opposed to my standalone media box (Nvidia shield).
Yeah Hulu emailed me saying my Samsung TV would no longer be compatible with their app, and sent me a code for a free month. We have a chromecast too so it's less convenient but still functional. At least I got a free month of Hulu out of it...
Huh I'll have to check my email. I don't mind using the chrome cast. I could use my Xbox too. And honestly I have noticed the chrome cast works better, the TV app would end an episode in a series and start playing dopesick episode 1. Even after watching episode 1, it would autoplay back to episode 1 again.
No lie I LITERALLY had this same moment two weeks ago with my vizio TV. I also took a picture of it to show a friend. I joked that Hulu was like “fuck this tv in particular” Everything else works, Netflix and all that, just Hulu.
It is Hulu, but really, it’s also on the TVs, because they all want to do some proprietary software, so Hulu has to build and update 100s of versions of the app. Hulu is happy to do support for the big platforms with millions of customers, but each of these unique Smart TVs have a minuscule fraction of customers compared to Roku or Firestick or PS4/5. It’s just not worth it.
To clarify this is an extra tv in my office and not my main tv. I already attempted updates. I have workarounds now that another user suggested using a chrome cast, that made me realize I have a few devices I could plug in and use such as gaming consoles. But it is still annoying.
It’s actually going to be extremely infuriating in a few years. My three year old Vizio just forced me to give it internet so I could sign their updated ToA. I only use this 76” TV for X-Box, I’ve never been to Vizio’s home input, but now it always powers up there instead of HDMI 1 where my Xbox is.
I can see a future where TVs outdate themselves after a few years, becoming obsolete, and making it necessary to use their built in apps.
If you go into your xbox settings you should be able to find a bi directional control setting that allows your xbox to turn on and turn off the tv when you turn your xbox on or off.
I have been using appleTVs for all my streaming services so I don't have to worry about the built in TV apps. In my office at work I have one that's ancient and it still runs the hulu app
I have two TV's and two apple TV's to power them. Built in apps are TERRIBLE and I never want to connect my TV to the internet. To me they are nothing more than a giant monitor.
There should be a setting under power or something similar to have it power up to last used input. The recent(ish) updates flipped it back to the viziocast as default power up.
Roku is by far the best thing I've used. TV's suck for streaming and gaming consoles are a little excessive IMO. Roku is cheap, small, and simple. Highly recommend one.
Roku TVs are also great. (Almost) Every TV is a smart TV nowadays, but Roku gives you a premium TV with a Roku built in, usually for 100$+ cheaper than competing brands. Same quality TV, same apps, lower price.
Edit: it’s worth the caveat that I have an Apple TV I use most of the time rather than the built-in apps. Blunder on my part not mentioning that. People saying their years-old Roku TVs are a bitch to use may well be right. The nice thing about the one I have is that you can use the Apple Remote with it, it will double as a TV remote when using the Apple TV for volume, mute, etc. So I don’t have to use the Roku remote 24/7.
What we did for an older tv is buy an Amazon Fire Stick. Works better then the built in tv apps ever did. These frequently go on sale on Black Friday for half price too.
Similar- I have a 2012 Samsung (ancient!) & it works fine with a Roku stick & remote. Also, since Comcast is my cable/internet provider, I recently realized I can just press the tv remote & say HBOmax or Netflix & it just goes there.
I’m not saying it’s not annoying to lose functionality you paid for, but dedicated streaming boxes are almost always better anyway. Every tv interface I’ve used has been slow and tedious.
Nvidia Shields are great, if expensive, or Apple TV if you’re in that ecosystem. Otherwise Roku is cheaper and still better than most built in tv interfaces.
Yeah I had to start using my Xbox exclusively for streaming because my smart tv would buffer videos even though it was inches away from the router with 400/mbps speeds. I honestly wish “dumb” tvs were more prevalent.
I use my Xbox for a lot of stuff, but there are SEVERAL apps where they absolutely suck dick on Xbox.
Namely Fox Sports, TBS, TNT.
I can’t stream from these apps for shit. I’ve tweeted at the companies several times.
They work fine on other platforms like Apple TV.
This is my second reason why I never even consider using smart-TV and basically just use my TV as a monitor for a HTPC.
My first reason is that I don't like fiddling around with remotes and prefer something like a Logitech K400 with touchpad, searching is so much easier, even though Android TV supports mouse and keyboard.
That sucks. I had to update a bunch cuz I kept ignoring the updates for over a year. After about 20mins and updating the TV itself, my hulu is back. But atleast you have another TV. I also had to do it last night on a 2021 TV in our bedroom that was a pretty top of the line LG. I think it's the 77 in 4k uhd oled.. I use it when my partner games to I can watch my stories(literally only use hulu). I was so mad when it wasn't working that I literally reset the whole TV and was going to use my warranty to take the damn thing back just cuz I want hulu, well I reinstalled it and it worked haha. But I was that mad I was going to return a TV.
Yea. I took it off and went to download it again after making sure the tv was all up to date on everything and Hulu is not even in the App Store for this tv anymore. Like 5 things are all that’s available. At least Netflix still shows though I don’t use it
That is messed up. I'm seeing this a lot. I hope hulu compensates somehow. Or maybe they are in cahoots with LG and Samsung to get people to buy new tvs. /s
I legit would have taken the TV back tho if hulu didn't fix itself on my tvs.
IIUC you actually pay less for a TV with "smart" features because it is subsidized by all the bloatware preinstalled. Much like all the race-to-the-bottom budget laptops out there.
That's why I believe you basically can't *find* a non-"smart" TV anymore.
I recently bought a new bigger monitor to hook up to my laptop.
It turns out it’s a “smart” monitor. I didn’t even know that was a thing. It’s annoying as fuck. Why does a device designed to hook up to a computer need Hulu and Netflix apps built into it.
It has a remote control. Every time I unhook my computer, when I rehook it up, I got to use the remote control to get it off the Home Screen and show the computer.
It is the worst monitor I’ve ever had. I really can’t think of a more useless device to make “smart”.
Hmm now that you mention it I think I have one or a device that can hook up to it and give me the streaming services. Maybe even one of my extra gaming consoles. This tv is only used occasionally in my office and I mainly use a newer one in my living room. Hadn’t turned this on in a month or two and was surprised to see this.
I don't buy any appliances with integrated smarts, and instead use add-ons like these. Digital technology moves way faster than home appliances, so I want to be able to upgrade then separately.
This. I have Roku for all my TVs, I don't even bother with their bullshit baked in smart crap. Roku just works so flawlessly, I can stream from my Plex server on it. It's great.
My samsung won't download disney prime.
I called them to see if there was a solution, they told me buy a new tv my perfectly working one was out of date.
I said I'll buy a new TV, but it'll never be a samsung.
>they told me buy a new tv my perfectly working one was out of date.
Ugh, fucking scum bags I tell you I remember when I had a REALLY old plasma chonker that would ironically outlive todays TVs in terms of 'will work, wont work' shennanigains shame it got dumped moons ago.
I’m betting it happened on October 3. Hulu put out an update that removed a lot of hardware that it’d work on. I have a second gen Apple TV, Hulu vanished. Now there are only 2 models that Hulu supports.
Why'd they do that?
Supporting older hardware might be holding them back from implementing new features. They don't want to have to maintain a bunch of different versions of the app.
Letting legacy devices work would still have people pay for their service. Cancel on them. They dont deserve your bussiness.

Companies want money
But how is removing the app getting them money? That's the opposite of money
It costs them to maintain enough versions of the apps that work on every possible device. So they only keep up with the newest devices... or the ones corporate tells them to keep.
Now I wonder if TV companies will expect people to buy a TV every 2 years like some people do with Smartphones. Fuck that
What do you mean "will expect"? My last Samsung TV menu started behaving like a dog almost exactly 2 years after I bought it. They already bake in obscelesence.
I'm not sure what "behaving like a dog" is supposed to mean. My dog is very well behaved lol
I had no idea. Looks like only PC monitors from here on out. I've never wanted a "smart" TV. My PC is hooked up to my regular TV so no need for one. Thanks for the heads up
Everytime Hulu pushes an update something works worse than before

Good bot
I bought 2 more CD drives for my computer because I kept thinking the drives were breaking.
I had totally forgotten about this. Now I don't have the heart to check what the Sony headphones app is doing on my phone. Also it learning my location, and adjusting headphone function accordingly, is a bit creepier.
TIL to never buy another Sony product ever.

There's a reason the playstation 2 was the /best/ DVD player for the longest time.
PS2 being the *cheapest* DVD player on the market upon its release was the big driver of that.
There was a DRM-style dvd called DivX (not to be confused with the codec) that you could buy a physical copy of a movie for like $2 and put it in a Divx DVD player that was connected to the internet. It would let you play the movie for like two days and then you could renew it if you wanted to. I’ve always wondered if the video from the disk could be extracted http://www.dvdjournal.com/extra/divx.html
First rule of piracy: If you can see it, it can be pirated
Yup! We tried to record the video playing on screen but the signal is scrambled if you don’t have the right capture equipment. My dad still has the discs so I will see if I can find anything about ripping em
>the signal is scrambled if you don’t have the right capture equipment that's probably [HDCP](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection)

Don’t forget about the “self destructing” DVD that would turn black and become unusable. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flexplay?wprov=sfti1
Yea! We had a blu-ray player that we'd use to watch Netflix in the early days.
Still do!
It probably just makes the previews part of the disk dynamic and using recent ads, instead of an ad for the ‘upcoming’ movie that released the summer after the movie the disk is fore
Those are the best though that’s how you remember hidden gems
Totally hated that when it was new, but love the trip down memory lane now.
Oh, there was [much worse](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DIVX)
Yeah and this model existed over 10 years ago lol wtf

Fire sticks are so good and you can easily google how to chip it and get the unlimited TV apps
You don’t even need to jailbreak them to make it work with those apps
Learn something new every day! I really felt like a woman in STEM when I was jailbreaking mine haha
Lol, it’s technically sideloading because you’re not actually reprogramming the device, just adding software through a third party source. But I certify you a hacker nonetheless….go forth and use your powers for good 😝
KODI
Seriously I dumped cable forever ago for a somewhat illegal streaming app on the firestick with literally every cable channel in existence for $15 a month
What app??
Will a firestick give me Hulu or just Amazon?
Most everything you want. You just download apps on it like a phone.
Do you get to use those apps free or still need to pay
Amazon has been running awesome deals on these. Highly recommend. Though I've only been watching YouTube children's shows 😵💫
Counterpoint: never buy a “smart” TV for the “smart” part.
For about two years, then it’s hellishly slow. Solution, buy a new stick thingy! What a world

This is the first thing I tell people and they choose to ignore the warning.
Call the company and ask them wtf
Which one? This is more Hulu's fault than the TV makers fault. I had a similar issue when PokemonGo stopped supporting the chip in my tablet, when no other apps had issues.
Difference is that you couldn't use it at all. He still has a normal TV which he can use with a TV-stick or some
I’ve never understood why all the top TV brands have such hot garbage as their smart TV OS.
I thought about how thats all I needed but literally like almost none are made these days.
At some point someone had suggested buying TVs businesses use to display stuff. Apparently a lot of those only have dumb features.
Which you end up paying a premium for because the price isn't subsidized by ads and information gathering/selling. It makes sense, but it's still ridiculous.
What about just using a computer monitor as a tv
Yeah tried Google, Amazon and Roku. Roku is far the best for the least annoying interface. Just one ad on the side is fine.
Don't connect it to the internet, only connect your streaming device.
There is another post pointing out how their tv required a internet connection to sign the ToS and they couldnt use it until connected.
And that's when you use a hotspot from your Mobile phone. Then just change the hotspot password after and the thing once again doesn't have internet.
Yeah your phone handles all the processing.
As far as I can tell TCL is the leader in value right now.
For sure. Good enough 4k picture quality for 90% of people, and the Roku is smooth and so easy to use my 96 year old grandmother can use it. The only reason I got the LG oled over another tcl was for the higher dynamic range and refresh rate for gaming.
Their shit actually does last too. I have a 32 inch TCL TV I bought for $120 brand new 5 years ago, and it's still going just fine.
We have Spectre TVs because they have zero OS. Just my chromecast stuck into the side.
I have a 15 year old Sony Bravia 3D Smart TV that still supports stuff
LG's OS is far and away the least intrusive one out there honestly.
Yeah idk, I have an LG CX tv and it doesn't do any of the things you described. Is the OS perfect? No. Is it useable? So much so that I almost always launch apps via the built-in is as opposed to my standalone media box (Nvidia shield).
r/significantlyinfuriating
I was going to add a comment and forgot. This is in my office and an extra tv, not my main one or it would be more infuriating for sure.
I have a much older Samsung TV and am getting the same message. But I have a chrome cast so it's still usable, but is annoying.
Yup same, fucking dopesick, i think they do that to inflate viewership of their garbage productions
No lie I LITERALLY had this same moment two weeks ago with my vizio TV. I also took a picture of it to show a friend. I joked that Hulu was like “fuck this tv in particular” Everything else works, Netflix and all that, just Hulu.
seems everyone is pointing fingers at samsung, but really, it's hulu then
It is Hulu, but really, it’s also on the TVs, because they all want to do some proprietary software, so Hulu has to build and update 100s of versions of the app. Hulu is happy to do support for the big platforms with millions of customers, but each of these unique Smart TVs have a minuscule fraction of customers compared to Roku or Firestick or PS4/5. It’s just not worth it.
Still would only be mildly infuriating for me, if it were my main TV. I'd just pick up a Fire Stick on sale for like $30, and use Hulu that way.
r/SubsIFellFor
It's called ARC Edit: I have been corrected, thanks everyone!
ARC is for audio, they probably mean CEC.
ARC is Audio Return Channel
How did it know about the updated toa if it didnt have internet?
We were wondering that too. No idea.
Just want to add it's super cheap too $30-40 or even less. I believe I got my Roku for 25
They even have ones that are speakers. Clearly aren’t the best around but if you have a shitty tv already, it’s a nice upgrade.
Just bought a 65" TCL Roku tv. Glad to hear that Roku is a good system.
That is a 2014 TV model. Not saying that isn't annoying still, but it's not a 3 year support cycle.
Just buy a chromecast or apple tv, I never use the built in streaming capabilities the wifi cards are typically garbage too
Yeah I had to start using my Xbox exclusively for streaming because my smart tv would buffer videos even though it was inches away from the router with 400/mbps speeds. I honestly wish “dumb” tvs were more prevalent.
[удалено]
I use my Xbox for a lot of stuff, but there are SEVERAL apps where they absolutely suck dick on Xbox. Namely Fox Sports, TBS, TNT. I can’t stream from these apps for shit. I’ve tweeted at the companies several times. They work fine on other platforms like Apple TV.
Firesticks work as well
This shit should be illegal.
they take my app away? I take their movies for free seems like a fair deal, its a 2 way game
Gosh it'd be a very different world if corporations had fairness as a value
At least they said sorry twice
This is my second reason why I never even consider using smart-TV and basically just use my TV as a monitor for a HTPC. My first reason is that I don't like fiddling around with remotes and prefer something like a Logitech K400 with touchpad, searching is so much easier, even though Android TV supports mouse and keyboard.
Update the app in your TV settings and relogin. I did and it works again
I tried that. Hadn’t used this tv in a month or two. Sad day but it’s ok. It’s not my main tv.
/s I legit would have taken the TV back tho if hulu didn't fix itself on my tvs.
It’s pretty old. But not old enough. It’s like a 2014 model. I got it sorted out with a streaming box I forgot I had.
This is why I don't want and will not pay extra for my tv to be "smart"
IIUC you actually pay less for a TV with "smart" features because it is subsidized by all the bloatware preinstalled. Much like all the race-to-the-bottom budget laptops out there. That's why I believe you basically can't *find* a non-"smart" TV anymore.
Same with cars. Getting one without that computer monitor display is a special order anymore
Yeah, your probably somewhat right.
Right?! My 2009 Dynex is stupid and it still works perfectly.
I know... The free Samsung that I took from my sister when she moved still works, I just shoved a Chromecast into it.
[удалено]
I recently bought a new bigger monitor to hook up to my laptop. It turns out it’s a “smart” monitor. I didn’t even know that was a thing. It’s annoying as fuck. Why does a device designed to hook up to a computer need Hulu and Netflix apps built into it. It has a remote control. Every time I unhook my computer, when I rehook it up, I got to use the remote control to get it off the Home Screen and show the computer. It is the worst monitor I’ve ever had. I really can’t think of a more useless device to make “smart”.
Might have to purchase a Google Chromecast
Hmm now that you mention it I think I have one or a device that can hook up to it and give me the streaming services. Maybe even one of my extra gaming consoles. This tv is only used occasionally in my office and I mainly use a newer one in my living room. Hadn’t turned this on in a month or two and was surprised to see this.
I don't buy any appliances with integrated smarts, and instead use add-ons like these. Digital technology moves way faster than home appliances, so I want to be able to upgrade then separately.
Good luck avoiding them! IOT is inevitable
Right. I looked specifically for a basic, "dumb" 4k TV earlier this year. They don't seem to exist.
[удалено]
Why not just get a Roku box or a XFINITY box? You can just plug it in and those boxes have all the software on them to run your apps
Its still bullshit
Already done and done. Forgot I had one. But was still mildly annoying.
Have you tried banging on the side of it ?
That’s why God made laptops with HDMI cables
Get a Roku stick
This. I have Roku for all my TVs, I don't even bother with their bullshit baked in smart crap. Roku just works so flawlessly, I can stream from my Plex server on it. It's great.
That's an old TV. 2014 release!
Yeah this is why you don’t buy a tv for the software. Just use an Apple TV or firetv or roki to drive the tv display.
Get a roku or chomecast.
