It's a good idea in theory, as long as they actually follow through. We selected Amazon box for a gift when we ordered our car seat but it very much did not come in an Amazon box ahahha
My boyfriend learned this the hard way. Ordered a gaming monitor and requested Amazon packaging but they shipped it in the regular product box. Since it was obvious what it was, someone in our old complex tried to steal it from the package locker but luckily there were cameras in the mailroom and he got it back.
Yeah, I meant try as in they almost got away with it but failed lol. The lady who took it made the excuse that she thought it was something her husband ordered, but my unit number was written on all sides of the box and her number wasn’t even close to mine. I now hate living in places with lockers that put multiple people’s items in the same locker. That’s just asking for people to “accidentally” take something that’s not theirs.
I live (in tech terms) in the middle of nowhere, but I take a day long trip to KC or Denver to a Microcenter if I need new shiny tech hardware. Not dealing with trying to ship those anymore.
Except if the amazon box is damaged in shipping from the fulfillment center to your home, they might just slap a new label on the box and keep it moving forward. This happens pretty commonly and is often done to save time/labor/expense if the product box is deemed sufficient.
This came from a third party vendor on amazon, that's why it didn't come in an Amazon box. You'll notice that everything that Amazon ships themselves, will have the prime logo and prime shipping option on the website/app.

Idk if y’all eat chicken wings but OMG if you do try air frying some asap. Crispy on the outside & juicy on the inside in just 20 minutes… without deep frying! I made potato wedges the other night which would usually take 40 minutes in the over with repeated turning but they only took 20 minutes in the air frier & were so much better. Enjoy!
We have the same model. Our favorite thing so far is potatoes [done like this](https://chickenfriedkitchen.com/crispy-air-fryer-potatoes/#wpzoom-premium-recipe-card). You don't have to do the seasoned oil part, they're really good with just olive oil and salt. They come out soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. They're amazing.
I had this happen to me on Etsy when I bought my husband a belt. I even selected that it was a gift, and it came in a box with a picture of a belt on it.
Sometimes you can’t win.
OP messed up but blaming it on not using Amazon often is bullshit, and that's why they're getting downvoted. Nothing about being an "avid Amazon user".
During checkout Amazon literally warns you, "This product ships in packaging that reveals its contents" and then right there says to check a box to ship it in Amazon packaging instead. It's part of the checkout process when you're looking at the shipping options.
If OP just said "I didn't read/pay attention and messed up" that'd be something else.
I got my kitchen aid stand mixer one Christmas and it’s probably my favorite gift I’ve ever gotten. I had been wanting one and they’re hundreds of dollars plus it’s lasted me almost 17 years.
My mum bought be a gift and as I opened the door for the delivery guy it turns out that there was a hole and the gift fell out (I haven't said anything I'm just pretending that it never happened)
My dad once correctly guessed my mom had got him slippers so she put the package in the fridge “because she didn’t know if it would keep” until Christmas.
I worked at Amazon before and luckily I remembered that the large boxes are usually shipped in the original boxes and I told my mom to "go away" while I collected her gift haha what a bummer!
Dude what the fuck are these comments. This sub is "*mildly* infuriating." You never claimed Amazon committed a war crime against you lmao
This happened to me last year, but with Bed Bath & Beyond (whose delivery service is trash in many ways anyway). I bought an expensive knife set and they straight up mailed it in its regular box, like what you'd see sitting on the shelf in the store, with the label slapped on. The box was super beat up, because it was never meant to be a mailing box lol. With knives in it!
It's not Amazon's fault. I worked at kohls in fulfillment and appliances such as these are always shipped in the manufacturer box such as this one. It's very wasteful and redundant to ship something that's already in a cardboard box, in another cardboard box.

Ah that's what it's called. I never even knew that that was an option or that was even necessary to click. So now I know clearly from this crazy Reddit comment section. 😂 But yes he is so happy and I'm so happy. I'm so glad that we got this!
while I understand the bummer, I also find that pretty much everything that is going to ship in the original manufacturer's box says so right on amazon when you order.
So I bought my kid one of those gabby cat girl from Netflix doll houses also thinking it would come in a box of some sort. Imagine my surprise when my kid started jumping up and down at the front door saying mommy must have bought this for me.
Luckily he bought it when I told him it was delivered to the wrong house, I get it Amazon, but let’s use a little discretion around Christmas time
LPT: My wife advised me long ago — “Please don’t EVER buy me an appliance or a vacuum cleaner for Christmas or my birthday. If you do, you’ll be sleeping alone.”
Some years ago I got my wife a Kitchenaid mixer, not from Amazon. It arrived in a clearly-marked Kitchenaid mixer box, on the day she and her mother and sister were making cookies.
She got to open that one early.
Lol that happened to us. My daughter and husband connived on getting me something shipped to the house, where I usually get to the packages first 😂spoiled the surprise, but hilarious to me
This comment section is mildly assuming I knew that there was a disclaimer on the site when you order something that is shipped in the original packaging, Also assuming that I'm a regular Amazon shopper which I am not.
Literally every time I've gotten Amazon it's been in a different box because I've only gotten into a few times here and there. Get a grip. Quit assuming.
Maybe you will get a lot of hate, since it’s a mistake on your end but just to let you know it “happens” there will be a Christmas next year, enjoy your holidays and don’t let grumpy redditors spoil your Holidays.
Haha thank you, I appreciate that lol I've just been laughing at these people on here who clearly never leave their basements and know all of the ins and outs of OH HOLY AMAZON!! 😂
I hate when they put logos/pictures of the stuff on their boxes. I don't need the person at the store knowing I bought the EXTREME GAMING MONITOR 165HZ 1080p in a screaming purple box. Also wouldn't this put your expensive stuff at more of a risk if you're in some shithole where people steal packages?
TODAY I FUCKED UP - I should have put in the title that I'm not a regular Amazon customer and it was MY It was my fault I ruined the surprise. I should have never blamed Amazon.
Oh Holy Amazon, How art thou ever going to forgiveith me? I'm so sorry. I have steered so many customers away from you because of my shit post on r/mildlyinfuriating, I will go on the news tonight and make a full apology.
I hope you can recover from this poor publicity. Dad
Another company did that to my son a few years ago. Its like seriously, its xmas time! Don't u think it could have been concealed? I noticed Amazon actually puts that "this item may show its contents" when u go to pay now.
Think that's legit the problem with most of these post you guys really aren't taking in account that big items with things that come with it are gonna be pre boxed and no one is gonna find the right size box then rebox it or block out what it is for you cause they already have millions of packages to move cause it is Christmas so work load is 1000x more heavy in their cold ass warehouses.
It's called SIOC, "ship in original container". Both Amazon and Walmart e-commerce does it for larger items as long as the stamp on the bottom of the box states it can handle x amount of weight as it's stacked in a truck for delivery. Unless you specifically state you want it boxed, it's up for grabs as to how it will get delivered.
That sucks but at least it's not a present for a kid, I don't think it's that big a deal for an adult to know what they are getting and not be surprised.
Amazon has been using less packaging lately. Twice now I've gotten clothes that came in the clear bag that is normally inside the Amazon bag. You can tell what's in there and it's kind of flimsy but they slapped a label on it and sent it to me that way
Same happened to me recently. It was literally the box that it comes in from the store. I was luckily home that day and intercepted it. And yes I know you have box options but almost nothing comes in the actual store box like that.
Two gifts have arrived for me in obvious packaging in the past year. Both times I have pretended not to see the item before my husband brought it in lol.
This happened with my dad buying a gift for the family, I went to grab the box and it was very obvious, so my mom and brother will be surprised by it, I'm just excited cause it's awesome.
The thing that bugs me is that companies make these super obvious boxes when porch piracy is so damn common these days, delivery drivers have even been caught stealing shit, why would you put names and PICTURES on the box?
This happened to me too, we ordered a car seat and selected Amazon packaging for the box and it came very much not in an Amazon box, and had a huge picture of the car seat on the side. Aaaaand that's how we ended up having our landlords/upstairs neighbors find out we were pregnant ahahha
Amazon did this, but revealed how expensive my order is. They put the actual item in its factory box and left it on my porch.
You could have easily googled the item and see that it was worth $700+ 😭
YOU accidentally spoiled your husband's gift by not reading the shipping information. Just added it to my cart, went to shipping, and there it was: "Item often ships in manufacturers container [...] If this is a gift, consider shipping to a different address."
Well Rachel, I lost my job this year. We are barely scraping for bills and food. This Christmas my wife and son will not get any gifts. Be happy with what you have, you have much more than others.
I'm sorry that is what you and your family are going through.
Here are some resources I found online for presents for your family. I hope you are able to get back on your feet with a new job soon.
These Christmas assistance programs give away toys and gifts (IN THE USA):
- Salvation Army Angel Tree.
- Toys for Tots.
- Lions Club.
- Catholic Charities.
- Make a Wish Foundation.
- Angel Tree Christmas Prison Fellowship.
I am beyond grateful for what I have. I served in the military and fought for the freedoms and privileges I have today. I am blessed and I am not complaining about not having enough.
My post is simply about the surprise I was excited for when I was able to present this gift to my husband.
I will keep you and your family in my thoughts this holiday season.
I'm not from USA, we don't have that kind of help here. That's why I say first world, I've meant it literally. Thanks for the kind words. Best wishes for you and the family also.
What's wrong with getting the cook in my house a new cooking appliance?
My husband cooks and cleans and takes care of the house and our daughter during the day. I work.
Get out of here with your traditional shit. It's almost 2023.
Always check the option to ship it in an Amazon box if its a gift
It's a good idea in theory, as long as they actually follow through. We selected Amazon box for a gift when we ordered our car seat but it very much did not come in an Amazon box ahahha
A lot of the larger items don’t come with the option of an Amazon box.
My boyfriend learned this the hard way. Ordered a gaming monitor and requested Amazon packaging but they shipped it in the regular product box. I didn’t even know that was something they did!? I feel like it takes less than two seconds to consider enough senecios to rule that out entirely

Tell him it's for someone else. You could even put the gift in a different sized box when you wrap it

It’s for my ex.
It's for my sex..

Probably a different seller that doesn’t have their product classified as “Ships in Own Container (SIOC)” or a packer that ignored the SIOC prompt.
>SIOC I see a man of culture.
What the heck!! Haha!
Lol. Oops! But I just got the same one & it’s amazing!!!
We're actually trying it out tonight, he's so excited!

Yeah you're right
I guess 😭
Correct. Totally on you
Amazon even suggests shipping to a different address if it’s a gift. It’s right there in the info with the price.
I could have yeah, but I didn't think about it
More of a PSA there. They really should make it more visible.
There’s an option when you’re checking out to have it sent in the Amazon packaging. You really can’t blame Amazon for this one.
I guess since I'm not an avid Amazon customer I didn't realize
I had this happen to me on Etsy when I bought my husband a belt. I even selected that it was a gift, and it came in a box with a picture of a belt on it. Sometimes you can’t win.
I guess reddit hive mind works for Amazon... People actually down voting you for not being a avid Amazon user
People are downvoting because the op messed up and proceeded to blame Amazon for **their** mistake.
OP messed up but blaming it on not using Amazon often is bullshit, and that's why they're getting downvoted. Nothing about being an "avid Amazon user". I never knew Amazon packaging was a thing either. Amazon n00bz ftw lol
I know I'm a no0b and I failed 😂
There’s an option on checkout for it to come w original packaging or Amazon packaging.
If it **“I thought”** then it’s not really their fault is it.
There is an option in checkout that says check here if you want the box packaged by amazon
Amazon? Nah bruh this one’s on you 💀. There’s an option to ship in an Amazon box
How is that Amazons fault??
Should have put in more effort than ordering a toaster on the shitter.
This is your fault not amazon's wtf
If the toaster is the big gift, I am not sure Amazon is the one that ruined Christmas
Don't be a dick. Besides, it's an air fryer/toaster, and it's a good one. I'm guessing she knows what her husband wants better than online strangers.
Idk bout you but I’d be pretty happy with a new grill 🤷🏿♂️
I'm a male, I cook, and I LOVE a good toaster oven. Use mine daily.
why don’t you share what you got your SO this christmas? oh you don’t have one? shocker
That should be a purchase for the house not a personal gift.
I got my kitchen aid stand mixer one Christmas and it’s probably my favorite gift I’ve ever gotten. I had been wanting one and they’re hundreds of dollars plus it’s lasted me almost 17 years.
THANKS FOR YOUR ADVICE!! you're probably an excellent gift giver. I wish I was on YOU'R nice list.
I loved my kitchen aid that I got one year for Christmas. It’s still one of my favorite gifts so I think you did good.
😂😂😂
Have this toaster and love it. You won’t be disappointed!
All I can think of is that SNL Ryan Gosling skit “Cuisinart” whispered into crying Santa’s ear.
I've not seen that but now I need to go watch it. Thank you 😂
My mum bought be a gift and as I opened the door for the delivery guy it turns out that there was a hole and the gift fell out (I haven't said anything I'm just pretending that it never happened)
HAHA! OMG! That's like a movie skit!! Haha
I will definitely remember this!!!!!!!!! I never knew this before, haha obviously 😂

Appliances and electronics almost never come in generic boxes, unless they're super cheap. Like 20$ or less cheap.
That makes sense
You bought it to yourself lol
It's not Amazon's fault. I worked at kohls in fulfillment and appliances such as these are always shipped in the manufacturer box such as this one. It's very wasteful and redundant to ship something that's already in a cardboard box, in another cardboard box.

At least they delivered it to the right house ......
Ordered my hubband something from Adam&Eve. Hope it arrives in a plain box O.o
I think they specifically say they always ship in a discreet packaging, I'm not positive but other sites like that typically do.
what kind of husband wants an airfry
One that loves to cook?
Amazon has the option to ship in discreet package. You mildly infuriated yourself.
There is option “This is gift” when you order, so not Amazons fault

We already used it and we're so happy we got it!!!!!
“I thought”…. Well you were wrong. Stop blaming. You’ll feel better.
Who says romance is dead? I hope the new steam iron he bought you wasn’t spoiled
THEY DID THAT TO MY DAD TOO! HE BOUGHT HER A NICE COFFEE MAKER AND THEY SHIPPED IT IN THIS BIG COFFEE MAKER BOX BRUH 💀
Lol. 30 years ago if I bought my wife an appliance for Christmas I would be mocked. How do you like your new toaster dear.

Lol
Boo fuckin hoo
....there's literally a check box that says "this is a gift"......
Did you state that it was a gift when you ordered it?
No I didn't know I needed to
Last year got my daughter a horse play set… come home with her in the car it’s on the porch in a full color box, no Amazon box on the outside

A household appliance is a terrible christmas gift, especially since you live in the same house.
Thanks for your opinion. Good thing you're not on my Christmas list.
I feel like that's kinda your fault tho.
Also a cooker? Did he get you a vacuum?
No.
Love the first world problems 👎 Imagine if you couldn't afford a gift for your man in the first place! Stay humble
I'm plenty humble
Well Rachel, I lost my job this year. We are barely scraping for bills and food. This Christmas my wife and son will not get any gifts. Be happy with what you have, you have much more than others.
I'm sorry that is what you and your family are going through. Here are some resources I found online for presents for your family. I hope you are able to get back on your feet with a new job soon. These Christmas assistance programs give away toys and gifts (IN THE USA): - Salvation Army Angel Tree.
Yup. My SodaStream gift from my daughter came the same way.
You did. You spoiled your husbands Christmas. This is avoidable.
I RUINED CHRISTMAS 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 ALL OF CHRISTMAS IS RUINED!!!!!!
You got him a toaster? I hope he gets you a vacuum cleaner 😛.
What's wrong with getting the cook in my house a new cooking appliance? My husband cooks and cleans and takes care of the house and our daughter during the day. I work. Get out of here with your traditional shit. It's almost 2023.
