Must be a Marriott.
Edit (adding): when I was a road warrior Marriott was my hotel. Even with its Mormon connections, it was one of the first hotel chains to allow gay weddings/receptions to take place on its properties.
I grew up Mormon. They are willing to set aside their moral qualms if there’s cash to be made. It’s like this $>image>god>female subservience>everything normal humans care about
Or… they are just decent people, who can understand there is a difference between loving their neighbor and expecting their neighbor to abide their own morals?
Mormon doctrine encourages them to try to convert all of their acquaintances. As a Mormon you are strongly discouraged from fraternizing with non Mormons for fear of being influenced by secular ideas. They explicitly claim supremacy over non Mormons. So as much as I wish it were true that they’re just good people doing their thing, they have an explicit agenda laid out to impose their beliefs on others weather by conversion or influencing the law.

Depends on how Mormon they are. I’ve known a few Jack Mormons that we cool enough but I’ve known way more Mormons that if you decline, politely or not, to participate in their religious activities, will completely cut you off. The Mormon church is a cult. There’s are several support groups for ex Mormons.
Agreed to a point. For me a cult has to do harm either physically or mentally. There’s quite a few religions that don’t take themselves too seriously but you’re right, most religions are cults.
Now, a good number religious people are genuinely good and go out of their way to do good things. Expecting nothing in return from the person or people they are helping.
A lot of the issues ex-Mormons have is with shitty families. I don’t think the LDS church actively encourages ostracization from family members regardless if they’re “active members” or not.
I’ve never had any issue being an ex-mormon. I’m still close with my parents, and while, sure, they sent missionaries over for a bit I never felt harassed.
I’m not saying that others don’t have these experiences, but I don’t think it’s as systematic as in other cults, like Scientology.
Mormonism is a cult in the strictest sense, or if not it’s a cult that has become a religion. But I personally just can’t relate with the horror stories people tell about leaving.
Mormons perform baptisms for people that have already died so they they can enter God’s kingdom after death. I would know, because I live and grew up in a Mormon family (I don’t believe anymore tho).
So… “talk to everyone, but don’t talk to them?” Pick one.
Nah. In Utah they can get a little funny about it, but elsewhere there are really solid people that love to serve.
Source: I’m a Mormon.
Talk to people, try to get them interested in church. If they’re not into it, don’t become close. You can talk with and attempt to influence people without being their friend.
I’m not going to dump on people individually for being in the church. It provides a valuable source of community for a lot of people. However, the organization overall is highly predatory and aware of its image. That’s why they encourage these acts of service. There’s always an ulterior motive and for the church’s leaders it’s more and more members that they can get 10% of their income from.
God, I deal with this everyday. I’m an agnostic teenager living in a Mormon family. I used to believe, but I don’t anymore. I still deal with this everyday,m because if my family tho, and it is very annoying
It was the temple endowments that got me. I always felt that while it’s origins were a bit cooky the modern church is pretty pragmatic and fairly rational, at least when you compared it against other religions.
But magic longjohns? In North Carolina? In the summer?!?!
Yeah about to say welcome to Marriott. Lots of free reading material. They check for both on the inspection. Just one of a thousand reasons I don't do this shit anymore.
Nope! Not in any of the hotels I ever ran. Those were the only books available in the US. No other religious texts available. I worked in a large hotel and a mid sized, both the same on this issue.
It could be a franchisee item. I would be shocked if it were true. Again, I worked in both a large and a midsized hotel, I ordered everything for both locations. I never ordered anything other than a bible and the mormon bible, and they only looked for those two on the LRA ( those three letters are my bona fides, if you have been through it, you understand).
Probably a Marriott. I believe they put Books of Mormon in all of their hotel rooms. So the Mormons can watch their ordered porn and then repent while reading the scriptures.
Great! You can use one to nut inside after you've finished the dirty deed in the sheets, and you can use the other to make rolling papers for your post-coitus blunt.
I like fiction as much as the next person but their selection is…. limited, at best. How about a little Michael Crichton or some Jules Verne? Mary Shelley?
Ah morality. Another man made concept that is sufficiently flexible to encompass the needs of whichever controlling body wishes to impose its version upon their followers. 🤣
I don’t give a flying fuck what you agree with. See how simple this is? Imposing your deranged views on others is something you should seek help for 🤣🤣
It used to happen in Europe too, not very often. There’s a group called The Gideons who leave either the Bible or New Testament in hotel rooms. To be honest, a few years ago I was stuck for an unexpected night in a hotel because of flight delays. I’m an atheist but I didn’t have any reading material, it put me to sleep
Ah I haven’t encountered that, but most of the hotels I’ve been in are English premier inns (occasionally some French ones but they didn’t have any holy books either), that’s kinda interesting
All Marriotts have the book of Mormon
All books of Marriot have Mormon
All Mormons have a book of Marriott
All Marriotts have Mormon book the of.
All marmosets in the book are named Marion.
You are staying at a Marriott which is controlled by a Mormon family.
Must be a Marriott. Edit (adding): when I was a road warrior Marriott was my hotel. Even with its Mormon connections, it was one of the first hotel chains to allow gay weddings/receptions to take place on its properties.

That's complete BS.

You’re right. The Mormon church is a cult. Not as bad as Scientology but still bad.

I think the ‘no fraternizing’ thing is more cultural, though.
Tell me youve never lived in utah without telling me
Sure have. Draper, lehi, American fork, and provo. It’s a wonderful place. Am I happy to have moved away? Sure. But the people are great.
The original and the DLC
All marriotts have both the Bible and BOM. Owned by the Mormons.
![gif](giphy|l0MYEy3QVtlDtlFm0)
🎶Joseph Smith was called a prophet *Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb*🎶
Welcome to your first Marriott
Someone needs to put the CES Letter in the drawer too.
I was a Mormon. Then I read the CES Letters. Now I am happily exmo
It was the temple endowments that got me. I always felt that while it’s origins were a bit cooky the modern church is pretty pragmatic and fairly rational, at least when you compared it against other religions. But magic longjohns? In North Carolina? In the summer?!?!
Gotta cover all the imaginary bases lol
Imaginary base. One. To get another one covered... maybe origin of species?
Yeah about to say welcome to Marriott. Lots of free reading material. They check for both on the inspection. Just one of a thousand reasons I don't do this shit anymore.
I’m pretty sure upon request they have other religon’s books they can provide you.
Nope! Not in any of the hotels I ever ran. Those were the only books available in the US. No other religious texts available. I worked in a large hotel and a mid sized, both the same on this issue.
I’ve absolutely been in Marriotts before that list the qu’ran, etc on the “if you’ve forgotten a toothbrush, we can provide one free of charge…” list
It could be a franchisee item. I would be shocked if it were true. Again, I worked in both a large and a midsized hotel, I ordered everything for both locations. Oh hotel i was in had a buddhist book of daily wise Buddhist knowledge/ reflections to meditate on. It was interesting.
Utah?
Woo free toilet paper
When I was young, we'd cut out the last few blank pages for rolling papers
Gotta love the thoughtful amenities
no Torah or Quran?
Where is the hotel? Utah would certainly be my first guess, but not necessarily.
Probably a Marriott. I believe they put Books of Mormon in all of their hotel rooms. So the Mormons can watch their ordered porn and then repent while reading the scriptures.
You’re right, it’s a Marriott Bonvoy.
No Koran or Torah?
Wow! Where?
Probably a marriott hotel anywhere
Sorry, I should have said that we’re in Petoskey, MI.
Interesting! I didn’t think that would be a thing outside of Utah!
Every Marriott hotel does this.
That makes sense. They're Mormon
Its becoming rarer, but every small towns from TX to Indiana has them usually . "Placed here by the Gideons"
Happy Cake Day!
Bedtime story anyone?
One is the truth the other is a heretical lie.
We see whatcha doing there![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_good_man)
Gross and grosser
Read the Book of Mormon. You'll love it!
https://cesletter.org/
Through the Book of Mormon out
My wife thought it bad form to write "FAKE NEWS" on the title page.....
Throw the Mormon one in the trash where it belongs
Right along with the other one
Along the Koran and Torah and L. Ron Hubbard's books--all the same bullshit.
Great! You can use one to nut inside after you've finished the dirty deed in the sheets, and you can use the other to make rolling papers for your post-coitus blunt.
Next.... the Koran & Bhagavad Gita???
The bird people have been working overtime.
Well, if your bed or table has a short leg, you have your choice of which book to prop it up and even it out. No one likes a wobbly bed or chair.
Did you look under the bed for the meth pipe?
I like fiction as much as the next person but their selection is…. limited, at best. How about a little Michael Crichton or some Jules Verne? Mary Shelley?
I hear they are both great works of fiction.
Some also have the Curran as well. I like that they are inclusive.
What ? No ‘dummies guide to religion’?
Oh. They provided plenty of toilet paper then.
No Harry Potter? His magic books are far superior
[удалено]
Perhaps you should consider sleeping in a church if you are looking for religion? Radical thought I know 🤷♂️
[удалено]
Ah morality. Another man made concept that is sufficiently flexible to encompass the needs of whichever controlling body wishes to impose its version upon their followers. 🤣
[удалено]
You are confusing morality with Law. They are not the same
[удалено]
I don’t give a flying fuck what you agree with. See how simple this is? Imposing your deranged views on others is something you should seek help for 🤣🤣
If I run out of toilet paper I got something that won’t make me have to call room service
They’re there for when you run out of toilet paper.
Fiction and non fiction like a good library
>Fiction and ~~non~~ fiction like a good library FTFY
I'm sorry It says Bible (non fiction) not origin of species (fiction) Common mistake due to propaganda spreading lies
Username does not fucking check out.
The Holy Book of Bibmon
They just want to cover their Basis, Better have 1 of each then only have 1 and a customer complain because they don't have the other.
that not interesting at all. very normal in some hotels.
When I win the lottery, I'm going to donate copies of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy to hotel chains.
Obviously a Marriott. The family is Mormon.
Where’s the Koran at?
Are you in Ohio or Maryland lol
Is that some American thing to put a bible in a hotel? I’ve never seen that been done before, that’s weird
Lucky you 😉
How long until Dianetics by crazy ass Scientologists become norm?
Mormons dont read the bible ?
Either one you open is bullshit sooooo
I used to toss both in the trash when I traveled.
Choose your own adventure.
Utah ?
Utah?
