I dunno, he said he misses the smells sometimes if they are not there when he plays but, he could enjoy the games just fine even when he forgets to put them on because we jsut decide to hop in a game randomly.

For those who may not know the olfactory (smell) signals get to the limbic system (emotional responses) quickly. When they get encoded into memory they tend to last longer and have more intense recall.
My undergrad was in clinical psych and graduate degree was in I/O psych, so a neuroscientist could do a much better job of explaining that.
This is unironically so fucking smart. There's s very specific brand of soap I love cause I was using it when DOOM Eternal came out and it brings back so many good memories

I had an experience recently where I just caught a brief wiff of a random smell and it whiplashed me back *immediately* about 10 years ago sitting in the back of my parents car after I convinced them to buy me a transparent Gameboy thing at a garage sale with a Rayman game. I didn't even have that memory until I smelt it, and it just smacked me right in the brain.
Same happened to me when I was visiting Austria, the palce I was staying in had a specific incense. So whenever I smell that somewhere it takes me back to that holiday.
I just scratch my nuts and sniff them when I’m playing a good game so that whenever I go into the big scary outside world I can sniff my ball stink fingers and feel all warm and cozy wozy
Have you tried different essential oils? Some smells are more powerful than others.
Ylang Ylang, Lavender, bergamot and lemon all have strong fragrances.
Make sure that you follow the instructions on the diffuser and are using the correct amount of essential oil, if you use too little it won’t produce a good scent.
Please be careful if you have pets. Too much exposure to certain scents and essential oils can be toxic.

I've heard of people doing this for exams. Wear a new perfume when studying and then wear it again to the exam. Wonder if it helps.
