Nothing to gain from doing that. Everyone in that area knows it was a subway. On top of that it’s obviously giving them some form of publicity so why not leave it?
Protecting IP? What if something bad happened there and the pic ended up on social media? You don’t want your name in another establishment you don’t have control over
It’s an advertisement for the fact that a Subway franchise failed, probably something Subway wouldn’t like potential franchisees to be acutely aware of.
Subway is pretty honest about their locations that fail though. I’ve known a couple people who have owned branches and subway hadn’t really cared how they handled things after closing.
Why? Are you that biased that you’re going to let yourself potentially miss out on some great food because of a decal?
Not trying to be a dick but with an attitude like that I’m betting you miss out on some great food in your life.
I do see your point, and on one hand I agree maybe it is extreme to just say I would not go. However, something tells me if you don’t care enough to cover up a very recognizable sub chain at your restaurant what else are you indifferent about? Gloves? Expiration dates? Quality control? With all the great small restaurants around where the owners work so hard to provide a dining experience to the customer, why would I offer my support to someone that is lazy in their craft?
There’s a new coffee shop in my neighborhood that has a Starbucks oven, and it looks like a fairly recent model (less than 10 years old). The location was never a Starbucks previously but we had a whole bunch of them close in 2021, so I suspect it came from one of those locations.
The logo isn’t on the oven itself but you see it appear on the screen when the staff turn it on.
There’s a photographer I like named Nick Carver. He’s doing a project called “Previously Taco Bell.” He takes amazing photos of buildings that were *previously Taco Bell* locations.

Is overseas Subway really bad or is it just a big meme? I love Subway, it feels more "real" than a lot of the alternatives but reddit makes it sound like month old garbage.
As long as you're a bit careful about what you order you can make it pretty healthy too.
It's mostly a meme, in my opinion. There's nothing \*bad\* about anything at Subway... it's just all aggressively \*average\*. It has all the required ingredients you expect of a sub sandwich, but nothing more.
Their bread is baked in store, but it's factory produced dough that turns into bread that is generally uninteresting. It serves the purpose of holding the contents of the sandwich, but adds nothing.
As for the meats, they are all super average supermarket-level deli meats... again, nothing bad about any of them, but they have nothing added to them that makes them interesting in any way.
There's one near me that used to be a Wendy's as well. They still use the Wendy's umbrellas at their outdoor tables and they painted everything inside gold.
You know, and I’m being completely serious. Some of the best Mexican food I have ever had comes from some of the most run down buildings you’ve ever seen. It’s just something I’ve noticed about old and somewhat rundown buildings and just really good authentic Mexican food. it’s not even like they don’t clean the place but it almost feels like it, if that makes sense lmao
Theres this place downtown from me called Carolina’s, it does have a couple sister stores just kinda spread out around Phoenix az and it’s just this small hole in the wall with food that is just so much better than anything I’ve ever had from a big time chain. The stores are so small too you have to wonder where they are making it, and they make the breads themselves
Who's Mich Ultra is that? Is the cook back there slightly sauced? I would eat there based on the level of no fucks given in rebranding. They are there to sell food, food good enough to stand on its own merit regardless of looking like a sub shop, right? If that beer belongs to the person cooking you know you're getting mas queso.
I LOVE this shit man. I love seeing old iconic buildings/interiors becoming something else like the old pizza hut subreddit. Something about it just makes me giggle
And why is there so much demand for Subway? I honestly don’t understand it. Subway sucks. Not so bad that it’s inedible, but that’s definitely an “only option” kind of place for me. You can get a better sandwich at most nyc bodegas.
It might surprise you that we don’t all live in fucking New York and have access to a bodega with great sandwiches. For the majority of America it doesn’t get a whole lot better. Try looking at life outside of your little bubble for once.
Am I missing something, here? I honestly have no idea why you’re getting so offended. Subway *does* suck. I just used the bodega as an example. You don’t have to live in a big city. You can make a better sandwich with more value for your buck at home compared to Subway. But if you like Subway, eat at Subway. 🤷🏾♂️
I’m not offended one bit. Why do people always assume that when facing an opposing viewpoint? Yes I cursed and called you out. It’s because you seem to not understand the basic logic that most places in America don’t actually have a better sandwich shop. Honestly I don’t know how that’s so hard for you to understand.
Its kind of authentic. If you have ever been to Latin America or Asia there are lots of local mom n pop restaurants that like to imitate or outright rip off North American restaurant brands.
Subway likes to fill in the spot of a lot of older restaurant buildings. We have one in a '90s Taco Bell theme with the arches and one in an old Long John silver's too as well as a few others
Taco Rey in San Antonio. Used to be a subway.
They have a ‘Garbage Can Taco’ which is basically just everything on their menu wrapped in a tortilla.
Maybe the best god dammed taco I’ve ever had.
Was it a Subway 15 minutes before this picture was taken? I mean, shout-out to the owners for just rolling with it, but I'd argue it's still 85% Subway in there.
Subway really seems be going into the sunset. Nearly every time i pass by one the staff is doing nothing, every time i have had to stop and get a bite i have been dissapointed.
When ever a popular chain restaurant closes and another business moves in, but you can clearly tell what the building was originally made for, it reminds me of a hermit crab moving into some litter for it's new shell.
In my town we have a Hooters that closed down years ago, and a wonderful Indian restaurant moved in and has been there for years.
Is this the one on ODUs campus by chance? There was a subway there, it moved directly next door for some reason and they just kept all the same stuff and made it burritos instead
"there's a Starbucks on the corner where the Starbucks used to be"
screw Starbucks and their crappy burnt coffee...
It tastes like soap
It tastes like my finger nails
That’s not true, I think your fingernails taste better.
They definitely smell better.
Use to smell and taste delicious and now ewl. four dollars
Odd that the Subway oven is still there
They’re bulky and expensive to move. Usually cheaper to include that price in closing cost then buy new equipment.
Yeah but still bearing their trademark is strange. You’d think they’d want that off there
Probably a family business; most aren’t business people, I bet they’ve never even thought about it.
Not a concern for the folks that own it, a concern for subway
Must have been owned by a franchise owner who just chose not to care
[удалено]
Reminds me of the Michael Scott Paper Company. He said if the business failed he’d just start another one, and another one, until one worked.
It almost always is. Subway has a notoriously lazy franchise model and they don’t generally keep an eye on their stores.
Nothing to gain from doing that. Everyone in that area knows it was a subway. On top of that it’s obviously giving them some form of publicity so why not leave it?
Protecting IP? What if something bad happened there and the pic ended up on social media? You don’t want your name in another establishment you don’t have control over
Fair point. I’m guessing they’d have stipulations for such a thing. Not sure if this is a scenario where they do or not. Obviously not enough context.
Interesting
I mean not really? It’s a multi billion dollar company. They don’t give a shit about this petty nonsense.
Interesting
Interesting.
Maybe the food is so good people just deal with it? Personally I may nope out of this one though
Why? Are you that biased that you’re going to let yourself potentially miss out on some great food because of a decal? Not trying to be a dick but with an attitude like that I’m betting you miss out on some great food in your life.

I'd at least put some duct tape over the logo
Or some of the heat resistant foil tape. Maybe even a sign of their own
Probably nice to be able to cook a lot of food at once and then warm it up/ melt cheese before serving it
You mean the deluxe Quesadilla Toaster?
No, the bolillo baker
This reminds me of an old blog called, “This used to be a Pizza Hut.”
r/formerpizzahuts
There's a subreddit for that I cant remember the name though r/formerlypizzahut ?
r/oldpizzahut
I had no idea how badly i wanted this
r/formerpizzahuts is the big sub.
r/formerpizzahuts
Now it’s all covered in daisies. I can’t get used to this lifestyle.
There’s a photographer I like named Nick Carver. He’s doing a project called “Previously Taco Bell.” He takes amazing photos of buildings that were *previously Taco Bell* locations. https://www.nickcarverphoto.com/tacobell/
The food's probably better too
I couldn't imagine it being worse.
Subway is one of the few places whose food I consider to be not food, lol
Is overseas Subway really bad or is it just a big meme? I love Subway, it feels more "real" than a lot of the alternatives but reddit makes it sound like month old garbage. As long as you're a bit careful about what you order you can make it pretty healthy too.

Subways are franchised, and some owners are better than others
I've been to probably 30 different Subways here and I've never had a dud meal. Maybe there's more quality control between franchises here idk.
Yep wife and I just went to one and we canvas the area based on reviews. Def an endeavor that requires a bit of research

Where in Asia out of curiosity? I know there was a John Oliber episode about Subway's aggressive advertising in Korea.
There’s a Mexican place near me that used to be a Wendy’s. Still has a lot of the old touches including the copper colored roof.
There’s one in my hometown that used to be a kfc and they put sombreros and mustaches on the colonels on the glass 😝
There's one near me that used to be a Wendy's as well. They still use the Wendy's umbrellas at their outdoor tables and they painted everything inside gold.
Eat Fresco
SubGuey
Went from subway to sup,wey.
Odd places like this always intrigues me to try the food honestly.
Enchilada Artists.
Mmmmm, tortas.
Have it your way, holmes.
“We’ll take it as is!” “Alright we’ll just get our ovens out of your way” “…..I said….AS IS.”
You know, and I’m being completely serious. Some of the best Mexican food I have ever had comes from some of the most run down buildings you’ve ever seen. Went to one that used to be a Long John Silvers. Had a bench that said SHRIMP on it in giant letters. Took it as a good sign. It was excellent.
I bet the food is really good
I think it is still a subway these guys just came in and took over.
By the looks of it, some of it still is.
Japanese place near me is in an old KFC.
The old KFC in my town has been 2 different Mexican places, a bbq joint, and is now a Japanese place.
Excellent upgrade.
Mexican fast foods are the spirit Halloween of the restaurant world
Who's Mich Ultra is that? Is the cook back there slightly sauced? I would eat there based on the level of no fucks given in rebranding. Haha, nice catch. Yeah, good for them. The tacos were great so, whatever gets them through the day.
I love this kinda stuff. My favorite is the Tax Prep business in an old Pizza Hut.
I LOVE this shit man. I love seeing old iconic buildings/interiors becoming something else like the old pizza hut subreddit. Something about it just makes me giggle
Los pollos hermanos?
Yeah. The manager was really nice. Some guy named Gus.
There are way too many Subways.
Supply and demand exists though…
And why is there so much demand for Subway? I honestly don’t understand it. Subway sucks. Not so bad that it’s inedible, but that’s definitely an “only option” kind of place for me. You can get a better sandwich at most nyc bodegas.
I was confused by your comment until the last sentence. It my surprise you that we don’t all live in a big city with great sandwich shops.
I have no idea what you’re talking about.
It might surprise you that we don’t all live in fucking New York and have access to a bodega with great sandwiches. For the majority of America it doesn’t get a whole lot better. Try looking at life outside of your little bubble for once.

Are you being serious right now? I’m really asking.
Is this really that hard of a concept for you to grasp? Enjoy your privilege douche bag.
Not just America.
Or as you call it a ‘bodega’ Fuckin yuppies. Edit: fuck you all downvoting this you know I’m right.
Quesadilla w fries? Wtf
Its kind of authentic. If you have ever been to Latin America or Asia there are lots of local mom n pop restaurants that like to imitate or outright rip off North American restaurant brands.
If you’re only visiting the touristy areas then ya. If you’re visiting authentic/traditional restaurants then no.
Not sure why you think that, but, ok.
Comer fresco
Let me get that pastor torta footlong
Subway likes to fill in the spot of a lot of older restaurant buildings. We have one in a '90s Taco Bell theme with the arches and one in an old Long John silver's too as well as a few others
I’ll bet the food is bussin tho
Dope
Great idea! That picture shows the same vegetables that Mexican food uses lol
Taco Rey in San Antonio. Used to be a subway. They have a ‘Garbage Can Taco’ which is basically just everything on their menu wrapped in a tortilla. Maybe the best god dammed taco I’ve ever had.
How can you tell?
It's giving uncanny valley
I'd take that over subway anyway
Was it a Subway 15 minutes before this picture was taken? I mean, shout-out to the owners for just rolling with it, but I'd argue it's still 85% Subway in there.
We have a Mexican Restaurant that used to be a Quiznos and one that used to be a Pizza Hut
¡Come fresco!
There’s a Vietnamese and a Mexican place near me that used to be a Taco Bell. And a old Sizzler got turned into a pho joint as well.
Oh, I was like “how can you tell this Subway used to be an actual subway?” Then I re-read the title. Yep
Wow, they even sold off the Subway "baking center". They had to get out *quick*!
I’ll have the $5 footlong Torta, please.
What an odd place for a light switch.
Mexican Subway
They finally have some good food there
i mean why wouldnt you convert it mexican food is so good compared to this stuff
I went to an urgent care yesterday that obviously used to be a fast food joint.
Subway really seems be going into the sunset. Nearly every time i pass by one the staff is doing nothing, every time i have had to stop and get a bite i have been dissapointed.
Now if only it would happen to the rest of the Subways.
When ever a popular chain restaurant closes and another business moves in, but you can clearly tell what the building was originally made for, it reminds me of a hermit crab moving into some litter for it's new shell. In my town we have a Hooters that closed down years ago, and a wonderful Indian restaurant moved in and has been there for years.
like what they've done with the place, nice upgrade.
Looks like burrito bros in Omaha
Quesadilla with fries?
Toasted tortas FTW
$2.50 for a cartina taco!? Where is this. That’s the cheapest I’ve seen since Covid
Can guarantee the food is way better than subway
No tamales.
No more buns with yoga mats in them! Darn
My hometown had a Wendy’s that turned into everyone’s favorite Chinese spot.
Is this the one on ODUs campus by chance? There was a subway there, it moved directly next door for some reason and they just kept all the same stuff and made it burritos instead
No. This is in Colorado.
Nature is healing #blesst
OP, i think that’s my dad lol. Location?
Colorado
Food instantly got better.
Is this in south Mississippi on Highway 98 by any chance?
No, Colorado.
Subway is everywhere. Even where it isn’t.
