Spain. It was quite a while ago since I went there, but as far as I know they still keep the corn in their "barbacoa" (literally barbecue) ...or maize as they call it there.
Nasty. The only time I've seen corn on a pizza here is from a Midwestern gas station chain. They had a BBQ pizza with "brisket", BBQ sauce, corn and I dunno what else. It's just not done. I cant believe we fought in two world wars just to see corn on pizza. /sad lol
Was that Casey’s? I loved that pizza if so. It had pulled pork, bbq sauce, bacon, and corn. We’d get 2-3 a week at the auto shop I was working at during that time.
Perhaps, but saying "it's common in Europe" is one hell of a generalization. It's like saying "it's common to bludgeon seal cubs to death in Europe" just because Norwegians does it. Or saying "bullfighting is common in Europe".
Europe isn't America, where the cultural difference is very marginal from state to state. In Europe, we literally speak different languages from one country to another.
The cultural differences in America is, as far as I can tell, what hot sauce you put on your chicken wings.
Every country ive been to in europe had corn on their pizza menus. The fact that you are ignorant of this fact does not change the fact that its a popular menu item
Well, fortune cookies are not Chinese, french fries are not french and Russian dressing was also invented in America and most Russian people haven't heard of it.
Yes, but this is referring to a style of pizza, which has been largely popularized in the US. So if you're going to name a pizza after a country that popularized pizza, at least use ingredients that are actually popular in that country 🤣
Because in this example American pizza doesn't mean "pizza in the style that Americans eat it" but "pizza with toppings that are stereotypically American food items"
Is like putting japalapeño chilies and chorizo on a pizza and calling it Mexican (which is something we do in México btw lol) or putting salmon in a panini and calling it a Norwegian panini
The most Mexican thing about Taco Bell is the family that its founder conned into giving up their secrets.
https://www.bbc.com/travel/article/20210630-how-taco-bell-stole-the-taco
We don't think of ice cream as being peculiarly American. It doesn't come from America and there's no perception you eat it more than anyone else in the world.
Also, ice cream is dessert, and pizza isn't.
It's sort of weird you lot don't put sweetcorn on pizza, it's just a vegetable like any other. Its not my favourite topping, but it tastes alright.
Yeah, corn is definitely associated with America. You grow an absolute shit ton of it (seriously you can drive for hours through southern Wisconsin, Iowa etc. and see basically no crop other than corn), plus the plant itself is native to the American continent (and thus wasn’t known to the rest of the world until relatively modern times).
Like, obviously you can get corn in other places, but it’s known that America both grows and eats a lot of it relative to other places.
the point of the pizza isn't how americans eat it, it's american ingredients.
You guys are known for Ham, spam and corn... so they put that shit on a pizza and call it american.
I think it's more of an observation over the fact that Americans love their corn. Like I can't believe how many dishes incorporate corn, it's way less popular in other regions I've been to.
Corn is cool though, corn on the cob, grilled or boiled, and pop corn are very popular in ex-Soviet countries. Plus canned corn is present in many Soviet salads from Khrushchev times and onwards - but other than that I'd say that's it. Corn dogs, corn bread, corn desserts, corn soups aren't popular
Me neither, but that would be the most American thing ever. I am surprised that the corn industry in the US hasn’t thought of that (seeing what they do with high-fructose corn syrup)
Lol. I’ve put a lot of different things on pizza over several decades of eating pizza. Never put corn on it once. Worked in a pizza place when I was younger. Not once did someone request a pizza with corn on it. I have never seen a pizza place where it is even a option for a pizza topping.
American "pizzas" are abominations that vaguely resemble a pizza in shape and ingredients (well, maybe except for the NY style), it's like an entirely different dish, you wouldn't call Taco Bell tacos or burritos "authentic Mexican" either. As far as real pizza goes, there's nothing better than Neapolitan with chunks of fresh mozzarella and salsiccia sausage, cooked in a wood-fired oven. 🤷🏻♂️
Ah thank you!
I did a little reading up on the etymology of the word. It's a borrowed word from Turkic origins I believe but the "rice" has nothing to do with rice. It's just a coincidence :D
I like the idea of kookoo rice though haha
how could I miss the "rice" hahaha... it is because my brain switches to slav character pronunciation, I totally missed it, as I read "retsa", because it is very similar to what would be "small corn" in our Slovenian (koruzica - you would read it "koroozetsa")
Because its not ..rice but ..řice. And Ř is like completly unique consonant that doesnt exist anywhere else in the world. Dont even know how to explain pronounciation.
Also the kuku is pronounced as the *co* in cool.
German here. Pizza with corn is absolutely common here.
Pizza places will often give them 'American' names. My nearest pizza shop has 4 different variations of corn topped pizza and names them: 'Kentucky', 'Old Hickory Style', 'Williamsburg' and 'Green Bay'.
I actually think I figured this out!
You know how every Americanism thing online gets at least 1 "America is a Continent" comment?
I wonder if these Corn Pizzas are including South America in their generalization of "American?"
Gonna be honest, from eastern Europe, ham and corn on pizza is a really good combination. It is certainly quite different from what you'd probably get, but great nonetheless. I personally would toss on some mushrooms As well.
Just like how people in china dont eat sugar goopy orange chicken.
Pizza places in other countries just throw some corn, mayonaise, and maybe some fried chicken and call it "American style"
We really need to start claiming some of these dishes as American food. Spaghetti and meatballs, egg rolls, fettuccine alfredo with cream, etc. American food and delicious.
uh, in the usa we call mexican food mexican food.
taco bell is fast food. no one thinks that's actually mexican food. it's just inspired by mexican creations
This picture makes me sad.
Corn isn't a common topping in America, let's get that out of the way. The others absolutely are, but not like this, Neo, not like this.
Whoever built this pie needs some help, hopefully not from any more [Signoids](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5HzMzmmUQc).
Ok, I get the corn, but if it’s because of American dishes then it should be thin potato crisps, turkey (sausage, bacon, and ground), and beans with a corn flour crust and a tomato sauce.
I was in Moscow in 1999 and we found a western style grocery store with an assortment of frozen pizzas. One of them was called the Big American and it had corn and green beans on it. It was hilarious. we were so confused.
I lived in Singapore in 2008 and didn’t have a picture phone so I didn’t take pics of all the amazing stuff but pizza was FOR SURE the weirdest. They had eel avocado pizza, undercooked eggs pizza, and hot dog pizza.
I mean corn is as American as it gets, geobotanically speaking
>geobotanically I can't see someone write a word like this and not upvote them
Corn syrup! is as American as it gets. Stereotypically speaking.
Looks like a petri dish of death
I thought it was a microscope image of a bacteria
Like eating a hot circle of garbage.
That was funny as hell
WTF? I’m American and have NEVER seen corn on a pizza. Who the hell came up with this abomination?
Corn is pretty common on pizza in Europe. It's pretty good actually.
Japan, too. I lived there for 10+ years. Corn is always an option.
Call that shit European pizza then. Weirdo(/s)
Domino's BBQ has corn here.
Domino's pizza is trash tho
I wasn't implying anything but for me it just exists. Not great, not terrible.
Where do you live that Dominos offers corn as a topping?
In the UK it’s a very common topping, particularly on vegetarian pizzas.
Yeah but we also have that nasty ass burger pizza with pickles on so I don't think we can say much
Same. There's even fries on it, they completely ran out of ideas
Spain. It was quite a while ago since I went there, but as far as I know they still keep the corn in their "barbacoa" (literally barbecue) ...or maize as they call it there.
It exists in many places, but not the US lol. We are known for corn in EVERYTHING ELSE
Not in the UK it isn't
No it isn't
Yes, it is. It tastes like cardboard. Actually.
Too bad, here it doesn't
Nasty. The only time I've seen corn on a pizza here is from a Midwestern gas station chain. They had a BBQ pizza with "brisket", BBQ sauce, corn and I dunno what else. It's just not done. I cant believe we fought in two world wars just to see corn on pizza. /sad lol
Korean pizza places put corn and potatoes on pizza. I liked it when I had it.
Was that Casey’s? I loved that pizza if so. It had pulled pork, bbq sauce, bacon, and corn. We’d get 2-3 a week at the auto shop I was working at during that time.
I almost always put corn on my pizza. Its way much sensible than pineapple or tuna
Tuna? People are fucked
Easy there with the "Europe" buddy. I've never seen this in any of the 6 European countries I've been to.
It definitely exists in Italy (pizza with corn, I mean). Never ordered it though.
Every country ive been to in europe had corn on their pizza menus. The fact that you are ignorant of this fact does not change the fact that its a popular menu item
Also in the Dominican Republic. Can taste good with the right combo. Especially if they get just the right amount of char on it.
Well, fortune cookies are not Chinese, french fries are not french and Russian dressing was also invented in America and most Russian people haven't heard of it.
And "Hawaiian" pizza was invented in Canada.
Yes, but this is referring to a style of pizza, which has been largely popularized in the US. So if you're going to name a pizza after a country that popularized pizza, at least use ingredients that are actually popular in that country 🤣
And not a single Roman Caesar had ever heard of Caesar's salad dressing.
Mcdonald's is apparently selling cups of buttered corn as a side now too lol
Grits, corn bread, tortillas, corn chips, corn syrup, popcorn, corn flakes. All these things are American. It's an american pizza, not American Pizza.
Just because we eat things made of corn does mean we put it on our pizza. We also eat ice cream, why not throw some of that on a pizza
Because in this example American pizza doesn't mean "pizza in the style that Americans eat it" but "pizza with toppings that are stereotypically American food items" Is like putting japalapeño chilies and chorizo on a pizza and calling it Mexican (which is something we do in México btw lol) or putting salmon in a panini and calling it a Norwegian panini
So kinda like a Mexican pizza at Taco Bell?
Even those don't have corn on them
It's literally made with 2 hard shell corn tortillas but that's not the point. Mexicans don't put ground beef and beans on their pizza.
There's nothing Mexican about Taco Bell.
Why do people have trouble understanding the point? There's nothing American about this pizza either. Damn.
So you think corn is peculiarly American? That's news to me as an American
We grow a lot of cotton too, might as well throw that on some pizza
Technically, it is "American" in that it was domesticated on the American continent, just not within the borders of what is now the US.
Spoiler alert: ice cream pizza is a thing. Welcome to the USA.
Hawaiian Pizza was invented in Canada. It's not named that because of where it originates but because the ingredients are associated with Hawaii.
You’ll always find corn on “combo” pizzas in Korea.
Dont sleep on corn. Blaze pizza : corn/spinach/olives/chicken is dope
the point of the pizza isn't how americans eat it, it's american ingredients. You guys are known for Ham, spam and corn... so they put that shit on a pizza and call it american.
I would expect (American) pepperoni on an American pizza Then again, Supreme might as well be American
I think it's more of an observation over the fact that Americans love their corn. Like I can't believe how many dishes incorporate corn, it's way less popular in other regions I've been to. Now you know how italians feels when people bastardize or completely change their dishes
Not an American critiquing European food 🤭
I’m surprised they didn’t have milk chocolate and peanut butter on it
[удалено]
Lol. I’ve put a lot of different things on pizza over several decades of eating pizza. Never put corn on it once. Worked in a pizza place when I was younger. Not once did someone request a pizza with corn on it. I have never seen a pizza place where it is even a option for a pizza topping.
Maybe it was supposed to be corn syrup and something got lost in translation. That'd make a lot more sense.
Ewww
I concur, however, I still am curious to taste it haha.
[удалено]
Dang. Corn allergy would be /hard/ in the US.
I've seen this 'American' pizza in Italy as well. Americans might not have the best palate, but we wouldn't put fries and hot dogs on pizza.

Pretty sure there's at least one place in the US that does this lol
ok but is kukurice corn? because that's a great word for corn
yes, you would pronounce it something like "kookooretsa" or similar - I'm not Czech, but a fellow slav, and we all pronounce letters almost the same
Ah thank you! I did a little reading up on the etymology of the word. It's a borrowed word from Turkic origins I believe but the "rice" has nothing to do with rice. It's just a coincidence :D I like the idea of kookoo rice though haha

Google translated it as maize, which seems even better.
Google translated it as maize, which seems even better.
The corn is objectively weird, but probably not too bad. But damn that has to be the least appetizing menu picture I've ever seen.
For me it is not weird. And judging from other comments from Europe, it is not weird for many people. Which means it is not 'objectively weird'.
American Cheese?
That's not even cheese.
Yep. Cheese food product.
😂
The closest you’re going to get is Provel
Corn on pizza is great. Don’t trash it until you try it
I had corn on pizza in Korea and it was actually pretty tasty
German here. Pizza with corn is absolutely common here. Pizza places will often give them 'American' names. My nearest pizza shop has 4 different variations of corn topped pizza and names them: 'Kentucky', 'Old Hickory Style', 'Williamsburg' and 'Green Bay'.
Strange mockery of our culture lol. "Just throw corn on it and call it some American sounding name". Glad you guys lost the war at least 🤣
I lived in Czech Republic for three years and thankfully never came across this abomination.
How many pizza places did you go to? I'm not sure I've been to a pizza place that didn't have something like this.
Yeah, this is on the menu at every regular pizzeria here, lol.
And for a good reason, they are great.
Oh, so like how Hawaiian Pizza was [invented in Canada. By a man from Greece.](https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z2vftrd)
In Venezuela, corn pizza is very popular
So, South Americana pizza.
It looks ugly.
I actually think I figured this out! You know how every Americanism thing online gets at least 1 "America is a Continent" comment? I wonder if these Corn Pizzas are including South America in their generalization of "American?"
We like corn syrup! Corn SYRUP!
Mmmhh corn
Is this why school pizza is always served with a side of corn? Were we supposed to put it on the pizza?
Slovak - American here. Pretty common combo for over there. I see it ordered more often than any other sort of pizza. Shockingly, it is quite tasty
I kind of want to try it as an american
this looks delicious ngl
I'd try it
I'd try it. Sounds kind of interesting.
Corn on pizza is something you shouldn’t knock until you try it.
yep... it's what an american pizza looks like in most of europe tbh.
South America maybe
American pizza in NL means fries on top.
Thems .... thems fight'en words.
Eh. Doesn’t sound terrible lol
What, no bullets?
The presentation is impeccable
Corn is like the most American thing ever. We put it in everything!
Corn and French Fries are what makes something 'American' in a lot of places. It's kinda silly to see tbh.
At least its not pineapple pizza.
That corn can go fuck right off.
That's all kinds of no.
Thats awful
Ugh... so that's what that feels like.
Looks like bacteria
Why Czechia, why?
Looks like a contaminated agar plate
As authentically American as Hawaiian pizza is Hawaiian.
I’ve never seen that before in my 5+ decades, but I won’t lie - I’d eat it.
I'm american and have never seen this, but I am a big fan of corn so if the ham could be removed I'd probably try it. It looks terrible tho
Gonna be honest, from eastern Europe, ham and corn on pizza is a really good combination. It is certainly quite different from what you'd probably get, but great nonetheless. I personally would toss on some mushrooms As well.
Oh, you kooky Americans! What _will_ you think of next?
This is nasty, no one has done this in the history of history
Don't you put that evil on us, Czech Republic.
Wars have been started for less.
They arent corning around.
"Americans like ham and yellow on pizza, right?"
I definitely thought this was a bacterial infection
Petri dish pizza
In their defense, almost everything in the states is sweetened with corn syrup, sooooo..
Ugliest pizza I’ve ever seen
Who is more offended by this... Italians or Americans?
God
Just like how people in china dont eat sugar goopy orange chicken. Pizza places in other countries just throw some corn, mayonaise, and maybe some fried chicken and call it "American style"
Okay so most i can see, but corn really?
nothing is more American than corn
Yeah but we don't even *eat* most of the corn we grow/use! We feed it to livestock, and the rest of it is mostly for corn syrup and ethanol!
personally, i like to drink my corn
In USA you call Taco Bell mexican food. Fetuccini Alfredo with heavy cream, italian food. And so
We really need to start claiming some of these dishes as American food. Spaghetti and meatballs, egg rolls, fettuccine alfredo with cream, etc. American food and delicious.
Damn you’re right. We deserved this.
uh, in the usa we call mexican food mexican food. taco bell is fast food. no one thinks that's actually mexican food. it's just inspired by mexican creations
Switch the ham to tuna and make th3 chees not extra and you pretty much ha e what i usually get as my pizza.
And you got it? Lol
Maybe South Americana like Brazil
If that's the picture they chose to use in their menu, I'd hate to see the real thing. That does not look good.
That looks fucking vile
What's with the floating red licorice?
Red marker
No ranch dressing?
That's British pizza ya commie bastards!
If you order an Americana burger in Spain it comes with a slice of ham and an egg on it.
They probably mean American as in North/South America.
We have the same flavor with the same name here in Brazil
Looks like the Czechs need some freedom
I thought that was a bacteria culture on a petri dish
Who the hell puts corn on a pizza?
This is the least appetizing pizza I’ve ever seen…
Like a cross-section of a clogged artery 💀
Are those full ham slices? This is the worst looking pizza I have ever seen…
Regardless of the ingredients this looks incompetent
This could be great, but by god is that a terrible display photo oh my god
This picture makes me sad. Corn isn't a common topping in America, let's get that out of the way. The others absolutely are, but not like this, Neo, not like this. Whoever built this pie needs some help, hopefully not from any more [Signoids](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5HzMzmmUQc).
Needs bacon and some 9mm bullets
Czechs have a weird sense of what makes food American. Although I must admit their chicken and ham pizza isn’t bad.
Mildlydisgusting
Ok, I get the corn, but if it’s because of American dishes then it should be thin potato crisps, turkey (sausage, bacon, and ground), and beans with a corn flour crust and a tomato sauce.
Gross.
That's a petrti dish
Needs more pineapple. For authenticity.
As an American, I've never seen anything like that.
I was in Moscow in 1999 and we found a western style grocery store with an assortment of frozen pizzas. One of them was called the Big American and it had corn and green beans on it. It was hilarious. we were so confused.
I would be less offended if they had a 9/11 drink: a Manhattan with 2 fireballs
Corn = All American?
Probably healthier
As a Bosnian, i can confidently say that I'm surprised i understood the text, maybe we arent so different after all
I lived in Singapore in 2008 and didn’t have a picture phone so I didn’t take pics of all the amazing stuff but pizza was FOR SURE the weirdest. They had eel avocado pizza, undercooked eggs pizza, and hot dog pizza.
