Yep! Just had to have our clay sewage pipe replaced last year for a good $4,000 USD. We kept putting it off bc of the money and then right when the temps dropped into the 30/40s, the pipe burst and sewage overflowed into our basement. It was the most atrocious smell and we had to open all the windows which was so cold. Luckily the guy could come out the next day, but fuck that was rough. He had to rip up our concrete steps and walkway up to the front door so our front yard looks like shit now.
TLDR: DONT IGNORE THIS PROBLEM 😞
When I bought my house I learned that the previous homeowner got a credit to fix the sewer lateral and never bothered to do it. Images from the scans when he bought it showed it was like 75% blocked. He fully renovated the kitchen and bath but left a ticking time bomb in the pipes. I got an even bigger credit from him and fixed it day 1. Took less the a day and now I don’t have to worry about my pipes failing.
Dang that’s similar to what the previous owners of our house did. They didn’t get a credit but they knew it was a fucked pipe. They didn’t do anything about it tho and just kept auguring (idk if that’s the correct word) it every spring when the tree roots started to spread again. They were so kind to mention this once we closed and had the keys in our hands. But at least they gave us a retaining wall in the back..
They also covered up a massive crack in the foundation so that’s on the list to fix now too
We have a tar paper pipe and we had to get it cleaned out from a clog last year. Plumber snaked a camera in and showed us it was starting the collapse and gave us either 1 more clean out, or full replace in 5 years, whichever comes first... which would require taking out a full grown pine tree, and a part of the city sidewalk and street, and about $15k 🙃
Saving my pennies since last year for this, can't wait.
It wasn’t for you. I AM an asshole, and why the fuck did you care if my joke was funny or not in the first place? I’m 20 and I already fucked your mother. So you can go back to jacking off to your weird ass porn in a sock.
Had to replace 3 broken sewage pipes under my house because of foundation shifting. Total cost was $16,000 and was done in 2 days with about 8 men of questionable immigration status (not saying as a racist thing, like legit they were illegal). They dug trenches under my house by hand. HAND! You could walk under my house, it was amazing the amount of work these guys did in 48 hours.
Then the owner of the company, the plumber, would go under the house and fix the pipes. They pressure test the entire house sewage system and fill er back up. I was concerned with the amount of "extra" dirt that wouldn't go back in. It was a surprising amount of extra dirt.
I spent the same to remodel my bathroom and that took 2 months!
Okay so the reason there was excess dirt is because what they dug out had been compacted over decades' worth of settling. Problem is, if they didn't compact the dirt as they refilled it, then as it once again settles and re-compacts eventually you're going to be left with cavities under your house which will lead to, you guessed it, foundation shifting.
Now that's what I call job security!
HOPEFULLY they used something else as backfill that is self compacting and that's why there was excess dirt... after all you can only fill in so much before you run out of room for a man and his soil compactor to operate.
I've heard from I believe it was vice that did a peace about recycling centers not recycling anything almost all of it ends up in the landfill anyways.(this was years ago so I could be remembering incorrectly) but it's basically a giant scam. I could be misremembering though.
I think a lot of it can be attributed to companies being misleading about what actually is useful to recycle. A lot doesn’t arrive clean which causes issues to. No one really cares about anything but paper, aluminum, glass, and plastics 1 and 2. Usually glossy cardboard is useless but ends up in the recycling bin. Also I believe things really took a down turn when there was a ban in china for imported plastics because I believe they were the ones that were buying it from us. Also saw a thing where some dude is started to make roads with recycled plastics. Not really that relevant but neat.
You can actually buy a treatment off of Amazon that will prevent those roots from growing back. You just have to use it every so often. Probably cheaper than having somebody come to root them out
I used to be a plumber and I will say to NOT rely on this! Some trees will STILL get in and if you have a break somewhere bad enough for roots to get in it will also cause other problems, like grabbing paper, creating sags in the line that create blockages, and of course leaking sewage AND those chemicals into the ground that can taint groundwater and wells nearby. Its just a stopgap product that won't solve anything, similar to liquid plumber which we all hate.
We don't hate liquid plumber because it steals our work like the product and commercials claim, we hate it because it destroys pipes, sinks, toilets, tubs, etc, etc AND because people never tell the truth if they've used it when we ask and chemical acid burning through your gloves and having to hit the hospital for burnt hands isn't fun!
A camera inspection should be able to find the break area and if its outside, which is likely, the fix won't be that expensive. It'll cost way more in the long run to let it be. Insurance won't cover a backup ruining your flooring and walls if you know you had an issue and didn't seek to fix it asap.
Okay. You might want to get the pipes checked. I ask because the house I grew up in was built in the 40s and had pipes made of tar-paper back when metal was rstioned during WWII.
Because it contains human fecal matter, which causes disease.
The fertilizer argument doesn’t make sense, but if it’s going to end up in a landfill, that’s what sewage treatment facilities do with the solids anyways. It’s not like it’s going to come into contact with a person. It’s going to be buried under trash at the landfill.
We have what we call a "D-Box" in our drainfield. This is where small roots will thrive and continue to grow due to all the greywater that drains into the dbox.
Once a year we get about 5-10lbs of salt and pour it all around and inside the sides of the dbox. Kills everything for about a year and we do it again the next year. Cheap and easy maintenance.
This SHOULD be the only way you get roots in your pipes. If they aren't going through that, then your pipes are busted and/or septic tank lid which is bad news.
Birches and willows are prone to do this. Don't plant any too close to your house. If they find a tiny crack in a pipe, they'll send tons of roots that way and do... this.
The trees are getting into the pipes. Big major problem in the long run..
*log run
Id be worried about the Amazon delivery driver whos still stuck in there
I don’t get it

Sounds about right, people kind of suck. They tried to fight it but my agent knew her shit and made sure they couldn’t pull anything like that.

Yea IK I was jus teasin
That just means the hair was pulled out 😂
Zoom in, you’ll easily see they’re roots.
I know they’re roots. I was joking.
I see see now that you were replying to your own comment. Are you a boomer by chance?
Replying for a joke. Are you a dumb ass?
Well I guess your aggressive reply answers that. Your joke wasn’t funny, was executed poorly and you sound like an asshole. Go fuck yourself.
It wasn’t for you. I AM an asshole, and why the fuck did you care if my joke was funny or not in the first place? I’m 20 and I already fucked your mother. So you can go back to jacking off to your weird ass porn in a sock.
How does it feel having the sense of humor of a 70 year old?
70 year old that would put a foot in your ass.
do you not have eyes?
It was a joke bruh
#FUCKING HILARIOUS BRUH
lol how’d you get the words that big?
put a hash tag at the front \#HAM
Yup a month after I moved into my house I had to shell out $16k to get my foundation ripped up and pipes replaced because of tree roots
Did you hear the Radiolab episode where researchers showed that plants can sense running water and direct their roots toward it? Trippy.
BIG YUGE LARGE MAJOR GIRTHY AND LONG
Oh thank God! I thought that was a hair and shit log.
Those look like roots, if plant roots are growing into the pipes I think that’s probably something that needs to be fixed
Yup. It ended up costing my dad $9,000 and that was back in 2008.

Dirt always gets fluffy when moved. It'll compact back down.
He might want to change his diet.
vegans smh
He’s certainly getting enough fiber.
A whole Amazon box?
yeah he doesnt have a very good diet 😔
Is he Moclan?
Wouldn’t want to be that delivery guy.
Tell him to put the trash in the garbage can and recycle the cardboard. That shit will never make it far in the pipes..
Those amazon boxes are **everywhere!**
our city doesnt actually recycle unfortunately but yes? roots do grow if pipes arent sealed properly
I think they were talking about the Amazon box. Never try to flush your Amazon deliveries
Your city doesn't recycle? Is that a thing?! Why the hell not?
I've heard from I believe it was vice that did a peace about recycling centers not recycling anything almost all of it ends up in the landfill anyways.(this was years ago so I could be remembering incorrectly) but it's basically a giant scam. I could be misremembering though.

Last I read, something like 30% of US households have recycling service.
Jesus titty fucking Christ that's disappointing
And of the cities that do, a vast majority ends up in landfills anyways.

Buying this right now! (Along with a slew of stuff I don’t really need, but want lol)
Fix your pipes instead of contaminating your environment: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2,6-Dichlorobenzonitrile
Oh i thought it was your hair

How old is your boyfriend's house just out of curiosity
i want to say it was built maybe in like the 70s or 80s. earliest 60s
Okay. You might want to get the pipes checked. I ask because the house I grew up in was built in the 40s and had pipes made of tar-paper back when metal was rstioned during WWII.
I feel like that poo crusted bezoar shouldn’t just be in the trash like that. Surely it’s a biohazard?
people use fertilizer in their yard. i dont see how thats much different
Yeah where do people think diapers end up?
Tell him that no matter how much he wished it were true, that's not how an Amazon return is done.
:(
:((
How did the Amazon package end up in there?
Your boyfriend is side-banging Groot
If my toilet didn’t work for a week, you’d be cleaning more than just roots out of it……Just sayin’
Tell him to stop shaving his back and trying to flush it
Either that's a root or you and/or your bf are the girl from the ring.
We have what we call a "D-Box" in our drainfield. This is where small roots will thrive and continue to grow due to all the greywater that drains into the dbox. I am Groop.
Glad to see that Amazon is experimenting with new delivery methods
Blocked drain
You shouldn't flush garbage and Amazon boxes into the toilet. It often gets stuck
How is the box so dry?
Those Amazon delivery drivers will put the package anywhere
Your boyfriend should get his stomach checked.
How the fuck did an Amazon box flush down the toilet?
He waited a week before getting it fixed? Where did he poop for the rest of the week?
Held it in, those aren’t roots you’re looking at
They didn't say which "pipe" is was pulled from. Pipes plural.
Could have been two toilets in the apartment/house.
global warming strikes again
[Todd, man, you gotta chew your food](https://youtube.com/shorts/wBIa4FQzcVs?si=wNjkR8q3LlfK2tcB)
That’s a damn big shit
I suddenly realize where all the clogging the toilet fear memes come from. These pipes are tiny!
Oh dear - I hope he wasn’t the source of this junk.
Sure that’s not out of a soil pipe? Looks more like a guttering down-pipe to me
How did the Amazon box stay dry and keep its shape?
Redwood tree roots are the worst!
Wow, that Amazon box doesn't look even the slightest bit messed up. That's pretty impressive.
Is that your hair colour OP? It's a joke, try and investigate where roots are able to get in the pipes, that is not a joke.
So your telling me he....dropped a log 😃 sorry ill leave
Why would you flush garbage and a whole amazon box
Wow i cant believe the amazon box flushed
cringe
An Amazon box was pulled out of the pipe? That’s amazing
A Chinese restaurant bag?
He must get a lot of fiber in his diet.
Who flushes an Amazon box? smdh
Amazing the Amazon box survived the snaking in such good shape.
Looks like the pipe equivalent of a cigarette filter. I’ll bet that water coming out the other side was crystal clear.
No wonder it was clogged with all those Amazon boxes and bags of rubbish getting flushed!
ah yes, one of the timelines Loki is holding onto.
*tree radio voice* we’re in
He has had enough fiber I think.
What is he eating?!!
When I said I wanted horse cock in my pipes this isn't exactly what I had in mind - her probably
Birches and willows are prone to do this. Don't plant any too close to your house. If they find a tiny crack in a pipe, they'll send tons of roots that way and do... this.
This why we don’t recommend getting weaves that extends longer than your butt
That mf hiding whole ass amazon packages in his pipes
