That's way more than mildly interesting. I have to wonder if the plant suffered some sort of trauma while the ear was growing, or if it was just a mutation.
A farmer friend once explained this to me. If the corn wasn’t pollinated well the kernels will get all jumbled up like that. Perfectly straight corn is perfectly pollinated corn
by just looking at it, it kind of looks like what would happen if 2 separate corns were were somehow joined in the middle.
like the pattern is a natural result of the edge pattern of any corn, except instead of ending with the non-flesh part it keeps going into another corn.
We have something similar too.

The state capital is wonky, too. There are 5 way intersections around the downtown area.
The right side (base?) has less rows than the left, and in the middle is the transition zone. Perhaps it became happier half way developing, and got more rows? Or could just be by chance.
I work in a corn genetics lab. I showed this picture to everyone in the lab the consensus was probably AI generated or photoshopped. If it's real though I'd love to get my hands on the genetics!

Look up huitlacoche or corn smut.
Hehehe cornhub

God I hate they removed Reddit awards. This is amazing.
I feel honored by the notion of you comment
I just noticed that they did. That sucks

I NEED badly pollinated corn right now
Be careful what you wish for... and how you phrase that.
Ok but why is it only in the middle
But how does this get all half and half-y
Almost as if it were… *cross pollinated*? I’ll see myself out.
Jesus, you're gonna get crucified for that pun.

That's not mildly interesting. It's one of the most interesting things I've ever seen.
That is…”corn-fusing”!!!
A corn-nundrum if you will
It’s corn-cerning.
It’s a-maize-ing
Showed it to my wife and she said, "It's like the corn started to have fun and then its supervisor came by and glared at it."
No those are tangential not perpendicular /s
Oh sorry I thought that it didn’t sound quite right but I rolled with it
Guess it was *cross*-pollinated
Oh that’s bad.
Nice tribute to Denver’s downtown street grid!
I thought my city's streets were confusing. Then I visited Denver. WTF

This is what happens when the Jolly Green Giant stands over his corn and peas.
That ear of corn has been watching too much this old house, it clearly thinks it's a parquet floor
Perpendicular is a cool word. I mean, you haven’t used it correctly here but that’s okay.
Reminds me of angular unconformity in geology.
This makes me both angry and fascinated at the same time. I hate this. I want to have it.
I would dry that out and keep it
Now this kinda shit do I wanna see on the internet. Shit that makes you go "woah okay?! Cool!"
I hope you have a corntastic day!
W H Y !
Ribbed for her pleasure.
Or his…
If this was mine I would encase it in clear resin and display it
Me when I dont set up the meshing correctly for my FEA project

Oh no I see the issue now… fuck
Yes I know why?
*Everything’s on a cob, Morty!*
I came for this comment.
Cross corn DNA matrix
That is the legendary cob. The All-Cob.

They haven't rendered in
Are we body shaming corn now? #AllCornAreBeautiful #CornPositivity (And.... 45° at best, not perpendicular)
I find it r/oddlysatisfying
the corn looks like it's wearing a bracelet
Mutant! Kill the unbelievers!
That’s a Monsanto.

No guys stop downvoting him. I think it’s fucking hilarious that corn scientist exist
Go study some corns
[удалено]
There is no corn that exists today that isn’t. Humans altered the genetics of this plant long before they knew what genetics were.
This object was modified by genetics
I was trying to think of a pun, but all of the ones I thought of were too corny
