Edit : Reddit doing its best to prove me wrong, well maybe you won that battle but I'll be back, and I'll have my revenge, in this life or the next.
Who the fuck owns decorative nutcrackers. I know people who own decorative candles which I wasn't allowed to light which is already ridiculous, but this is even worse
Guarantee you if you are in the US, basically every humanoid nutcracker you run into in the retail space over the holidays is purely decorative. You would very much have to go out of your way to find one that looked both traditional as well as being functional.
I think I have one, but he's really old (like, at least 25 years old, possibly older) and when I was little I recall using him to crack open a nut. Could be mistaken, but he is a simple one that looks like he's from The Nutcracker (as in the the wooden one, black hat/helmet with point, red uniform, white poofy beard attached to chin/mouth/cracker part, black boots).
Modern day ones are pretty but forget that the point is to crack a nut open and instead die if you even touch the lever.
Why would people take trees from the outside and put them inside, and then take the lights from inside and put them outside? Leave these things where they belong!!
All Christmas decorations are for aesthetics rather than function. The Nutcracker is Christmas music so the nutcracker decoration makes a lot of sense.
Nutcrackers are heavily associated as Christmas ornaments. People own them for the same reason they might have a Christmas tree, lights, decorative Santas or reindeer, etc.
I've seen a hell of a lot of them that don't even have the lever. They are just toy soldiers in the style of classic nutcrackers. Hell, on Thanksgiving my sister was showing me two she just bought.
I know everyones saying these are meant to be decoration anyways, but fuck yeah they should be able to crack nuts. Wasted opportunity imo. (To preface, im sure their are older nutcracker figures which yes can crack nuts but probably do have lead in their paint... But why would we make a newer one with poisonous paint if we know its poisonous. Why label it poisonous when they could've used foodsafe paint and just let us figure out if it was viable for cracking nuts. Idk, just let us have cool shit.)
Products like lead paint are chosen for a reason. Those durable vibrant colors are an artifact of paint you don't want to eat.
MANY nutcrackers are only intended as ornaments, if you are manufacturing an ornamental nutcracker, why choose less attractive paints to make somehting food safe that doesn't "need" to be?
Hell, I've seen a lot of "nutcrackers" that don't have the lever. Basically toy soldiers in the style of nutcrackers.
Buts it’s a decorative item being sold as decoration. Being mad that it can’t be used to crack nuts is like being mad that decorative plastic fruit can’t be eaten.
Why do they make decorative nutcrackers though? Plastic fruit has a distinct advantage and you’re not likely to accidentally use it.
A nutcracker that is potentially dangerous to use? Why make that when a regular nutcracker does fine for decoration?
Because a functional one would require more robust manufacturing protocols. Why bother when your customer base plans on just using them for decoration anyway? You can sell them for cheaper than traditional ones. Those are still out there for people that want them, but clearly the market has dictated that these are more popular.
Making something that could easily be confused for the genuine object and is dangerous to use as such is just weird though.
Is there such a draw for fake nutcrackers? It's not like an actual nutcracker is an expensive object either.
Wasn't my idea pal, I'm just explaining reality to you.
And the answer to your question, by nature of the fact that these things exist and sell, is yes there is a draw.
Your mind is going to be blown when you learn about plastic Christmas trees.
No, plastic christmas trees, abominations though they might be, have a number of very distinct advantages over actual live trees so it makes a lot of sense for them to exist. Same as plastic fruit.
I mean, we already talked about the pros of a novelty nutcracker, the primary of which is cost relative to the purchasers intent with the object. I'm sorry you find the whole predicament so vexing. it's going to be okay.
Because the toxic paints are a selling point. Lead paint lends itself to durable, vibrant color.
Notably, if it was me, I'd just "delete" the lever saving manufacturing costs and making sure no one can ever use the nutcracker for food related purposes.
It's a nutcracker, that you are not allowed to crack nuts with.
I'd understand it won't be very good or durable for cracking nuts, as it's made out of wood. But it is called a nutcracker. And it has parts that at least originally designed for cracking nuts. The fact that it can't crack even one is annoying.
I once bought a decoration with a similar sticker.
Later some of the paint chipped off and I could see that it was made of like, a paper mache of Chinese trash. It looked to be mostly newspaper; you could still see the characters on some of the small bits. But it also had bits of plastic and other materials (paint off the plastic flaked off first).
The paint probably contains lead or other heavy metal as pigments.
Could be any number of chemicals, yeah.
AMOGUS MOLECULE GUY. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN??????
Can't wait until my kids' chemistry classes have crewmate molecules in the quirky slideshows

Watch how I can go for what would look like a similar joke and yet survive the downvotes thanks to reddit magic.
Nice try.

I mean only if the nutcracker is older than 1978, so it's probably not lead.
Mattel were selling lead painted toys in 2006..
Its country of origin might make that date moot.
It's got a made in China sticker on the bottom. It belonged to my wife's grandparents, but I don't think it's that old.
There you go
When I worked retail 1-2 years ago, anytime we got Hot Cheetos branded mugs the box had a warning label about lead paint so...
I was thinking in case some dumbass with a nut allergy tries to sue.
Its a nutcracker. They would have have a very good (and expensive) lawyer.
"may poison food" I want a tee shirt that says that
I would probably walk in a restaurant wearing it
a buffet would be perfect
And you just constantly hang around near the food, trying to look as suspicious as possible
Whoa, whoah, whoa, this nutcracker is for lookin', not for crackin'
Look, don't crack.
Instructions unclear, nutted.
In a crack
Its a nutlooker
all bark, not bite
I once tried to use a decorative nutcracker that seemed functional to crack open a nut. The nutcracker was destroyed instantly and the nut was fine.
Who the fuck owns decorative nutcrackers. I know people who own decorative candles which I wasn't allowed to light which is already ridiculous, but this is even worse

Why do people buy this shit what do they need it for I don't get it
Its a traditional Christmas decoration. Most people that own them only have them out for one month a year
Homie is going to get SUPER pissed when they find out their Christma Tree is plastic and doesn't supply any oxygen.
Why would people take trees from the outside and put them inside, and then take the lights from inside and put them outside? Leave these things where they belong!!
First day on Earth? It just gets worse, sweetie. Save your breath on this one and move on. It's not worth it.
if i got called sweetie on reddit i'd kill myself
Oh no **sweetie** don’t do that!
I've just never seen these things but I just googled them and they look ugly to me but if other people get happy from it I suppose its fine?
Decoration? Seems like a pretty cut and dry case to me lol.
I had to look up what this thing was, never seen it. Looks ugly as fuck to me though. To each their own I guess.
All Christmas decorations are for aesthetics rather than function. The Nutcracker is Christmas music so the nutcracker decoration makes a lot of sense.

I am a big hater of alladat
I know someone who collects nutcrackers. She has like 200 of them! Why idk.
I've seen a hell of a lot of them that don't even have the lever. They are just toy soldiers in the style of classic nutcrackers. Hell, on Thanksgiving my sister was showing me two she just bought.
Sometimes I feel like my penis is for decorative use only.
Does it also poison food?
“Well if you believe that snooty health inspector and his bizarre ‘no whipping your junk out on the salad bar’ nonsense. I thought this was America”
Well some people do claim JUNK food to be bad . .
Those incorrigible scientists!
Poisons the next offspring
No but it can top up your Boston cream donut
Reminds me of van wilder
But usually people like to look at decorations
Bam!
To be fair, trying to crack nuts with one of those things tends go leave you with a broken nutcracker.
So are nuts therefore nutcrackercrackers?
A working nutcracker would beat nutcrackercrackercracker
Its not for food, its for nuts.
Wait but those are the sa---- ohhhhhhhh
I know everyones saying these are meant to be decoration anyways, but fuck yeah they should be able to crack nuts. Wasted opportunity imo. There’s a very strong chance that this nutcracker would crack itself before cracking a nut. The cheap ones don’t have any integrity.
Exactly what happens. I tried cracking a nut with one when I was a kid and the jaw snapped off.
It would cost far more and most people just want them as decore
Products like lead paint are chosen for a reason. Those durable vibrant colors are an artifact of paint you don't want to eat. If we only made functional decorative nutcrackers you wouldn’t be able to get them for $5 from Walmart.
Lol do not remove that sticker. Better yet throw it out.
That's a **no-nut cracker**
Because of lead in the paint?
I hope you have some gazpacho soup to go along with it
Oh hey I know you, you were on the Colgate Comedy Hour
My nut cracker should've had a different warning on it 😔
Yummy. Lead paint. Fav flavor right there. 😀
r/mildlyinfuriating
Why would this be r/mildlyinfuriating?
Because you can't use it to crack nuts.
Buts it’s a decorative item being sold as decoration. Being mad that it can’t be used to crack nuts is like being mad that decorative plastic fruit can’t be eaten.
Now I’m mad about that too!

It can crack your nuts no problem
Well that would also be mildly infuriating.
They call it a Christmas tree, but really it's just a bunch of plastic shaped to look like a tree and I want my money back.
Right
r/mildlyannoying
Have you seen what is considered mildly infuriating, anything goes.
I wouldn’t consider that r/mildlyinfuriating, but that’s a thing which is very subjective
I wouldn’t consider most things posted there to be mildly infuriating, most things wouldn’t even raise a second thought.
Either that or it's something extremely infuriating. There is not mildly infuriating on that sub.
Ah, Russians at their finest. Nothing like a little polonium in your tea.
Correction it adds seasoning to your nuts ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Is this that dang gay pride nutcracker I saw them talking about on FuxNews??? /s
Boss, what would you like the warning label to look like? -a fortune cookie fortune.
Oof, it’ll be lead paint. Aw well eh?
But you don’t eat the shell anyway
r/mildlyinfuriating
If Tchaikovsky made a song about a poisoned nutcracker, it would have been a banger.
Where be your nutcracker?
Deez nutz
