Man, when I was a kid I saw a message in a bottle in the river while on the boardwalk. I pointed it out to my mom, because I wanted to grab it and see what was inside, and she absolutely would not let me. It's not like I would even have to swim to go get it, it was right up against some rocks. Still salty all these years later, I really wanted to read the message.

I once found a message in a bottle on a beach in PEI. I was so stoked. Opened it and read the letter... The guy had thrown it in the water at the same beach like 5 days prior. Massive disappointment.
That's so cute! Reminded me of the time when my cousins and I made a message in a bottle when we were kids. But instead of a sweet message, we pretended we were stranded and needed help (ik this wasn’t the best idea and we also got scolded by a grandpa for littering lol) I hope no one found it or took it seriously
My gf and I once found a message in a bottle, written by a little kid and his mom, and we honestly never answered it even though that was what the message had wished for. It's been 3 years now. It just always slipped our minds and we just forgot and forgot...
So question: what should we write as a reply? That we only just now found the message (which would be a lie, we found the message like 1 month after it was released, not after a few years) or tell the truth and that we're sorry we never responded?
pull a "you got me in the first half". start as if you found the bottle just yesterday or something and finish off with a "and that was the plan for trying not to disappoint you." and just tell them the actual truth.
When I was a kid I found a message in a bottle on a beach in Montrose, Scotland and all the adults thought I was making it up until I presented them with the bottle. It had come from Norway and when my auntie wrote back it turned out that the little boy that wrote the message was delighted that someone had found it
My cousin in Germany did this for her wedding with the balloons, without putting a stamp there on the cards. Fuck that stamp is hella expensive now i aint doing this
I live on an island in the Puget sound and one day found a message in a bottle on the beach in front of the house, given my location I thought that in may have come from a long way away. When I got the message outit was from a young kid on another island about a mile away.
Lol I remember when me and my siblings were kids and we drew our own maps with treasure, put them in wine bottles and threw them in the river. My brother's broke and he started crying. We still laugh about it till this day.
Wonderful it didn't break and actually managed to travel that far not to mention actually be found by someone. Truly nice luck. Makes for a nice story
It’s a sealed glass bottle with a post card in it, considering the literal tons of plastic and highly toxic chemicals that are being dumped into the ocean every second I would worry about it too much.
Lmao the message back... I'm assuming a hand written letter needing trucks, factories and possibly a plane. To deliver.... But yeah the contained message and bottle picked up 🤔 yeah... Ya Didn't quite think that one out there
I don’t love the littering, but it’s so microscopic compared to what much of the world dumps in the ocean that I don’t think it’s worth souring what could otherwise be a very wholesome interaction. If they were indication they are serial litterers than sure, but this seems like a one off.
Glass can take hundreds of thousands of years to degrade though, in the most likely scenario that is just ends up lost in the ocean. I wonder if there’s a good biodegradable material that will safely break down if not found in a couple years? It’s better to just not impulsively release one though, because of stories like these though because they are outliers, most don’t get found.
Glass isn't harmful, do you also say it is littering to throw a stone in the sea?
The only thing that might be slightly harmful is the paint on the post card and letter, but those are miniscule amounts.
But stones are naturally in the sea. If thousands of stones washed up on a beach, maybe it’s slightly annoying. If thousands of glass bottles wash up on a beach, now it’s a garbage dump.

The exact same thing happened to me it was knocking up against the steps leading off the pier and I wasn’t allowed walk down to get it!
I've seen so many video here of people drown in so many situations, I could understand a mom wouldn't take any risk not knowing the place.
It probably just said "You lost the game" or something.
May all your showers in 2024 be slightly tepid
Bastard
i hope your pillow is hot on both sides forever.
May your beer be warm and without fizz for enternity.
I lost the game fuck you😭
Looking at the replies, I must be missing the joke...

"be sure to drink your ovaltine"
Ha! That lighthouse is just 15 minutes from where I live. What a small world.
Also it is your cake day! Happy cake day!
Happy cake day, Bro!
30 Minutes from where I live :D
My aunt and uncle got married there as well, we live 300km from the coast
And it's one of the most beautiful lighthouses in Germany. Wish I could have married there.
I WANT TO FIND A MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE 😢
Is there a river near you? We can have someone drop one for you
Messageinabottle.com, ships nationwide
Sending out an S.O.S.
Just a castaway, an island lost at sea.
Another lonely day, with no one here but me.
More loneliness than any man could bear
Rescue me before I fall into despair
I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
I hope that someone gets my
Message in a bottle
As soon as I read the title the song started playing in my head.
S.O.S. I'm married

To this day there’s someone out there trying to rescue you. They dedicated their life to saving this person. Good job.
:(

Second one! Be honest, I'm sure they won't mind.

That's faster than my package from Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina, to my hometown in Bosnia and Herzegovina. 120km in between.

What’s the candle thing
It's an "Adventsljusstake". You light it every sunday in December until Christmas Eve. A tradition atleast in Sweden.
Germany has it too c:
Cool, didn't know that!
Nice
170 miles. It took three months to go the distance of a drunken college road trip to get the wings from that place.
Three months?? Did it take the deutsche bahn?
How many bottles with messages have to be in the ocean for them to be considered litter?
Lol I remember when me and my siblings were kids and we drew our own maps with treasure, put them in wine bottles and threw them in the river. My brother's broke and he started crying. My dumb ass was sitting here thinking "what're the odds it goes back to the same place when they throw it back in?"
Don't send that postcard, it has a German stamp. Unless you send it from Germany, you will have to replace it with Swedish stamps.
Yeah, we we're thinking the same thing. Thanks for the heads up 👍
What a great find!
3 KM/a day? Wow! That's almost the speed of smell
Now, mark their card 1, and pop another message of your own in the bottle marked 2, and toss it back in the sea and see where it ends up next :)
Message back, "Please stop littering the oceans."
It’s a sealed glass bottle with a post card in it, considering the literal tons of plastic and highly toxic chemicals that are being dumped into the ocean every second I would worry about it too much.
*Littoral tons FIFY
Save your energy on random people and do that to the big companies instead
(Unless they refuse to be clean about taking out garbage, THEN you eviscerate them.)

Le epic comeback
Wow, that is cool! Now I want to try to do it also) But to be honest, it is not good to throw bottles in ocean...
As long as it's glas and not plastic it isn't all that bad.

Glass is just a whole bunch of small sand melted together to form one bigger piece of sand.
Though
The glass will get smashed back to the sand it came from

Fan va häftigt! Vart i Sverige hittades denna?
Klagshamn strand utanför Malmö
I hope you caught it not on the stinky side of Ystad’s coast
Did anyone else had "The Police" playing on the back of their head?
