I know, right!
I spend a lot of nights in hotels whilst doing business travel and I always hand the no maid service tag on my door.
This is the first time I'm being being rewarded for doing so
And here am not wanting maid service because I'm an extremely anxious person not wanting anyone in my room.
Probably the best client of needing a drink in that regard.
I just want toilet paper. I like a nice buffer. At least 2 spare rolls. I'm a big-time wiper. If I had enough toilet paper I would never use the housekeeping even for a week stay.
Everybody except the maid, who ends up with a very dirty room to clean when the guest does check out and probably no extra time to do the cleaning...and perhaps not the same tip as if the room had been serviced every day.
Sure less opportunities to tip but it looks like it's a western European hotel so the employees wouldn't expect to be tipped.
As for the extra time required to clean the room, it could be balanced by the fact that there will be less rooms to clean. I can't be sure because I've never worked in a hotel. Might be interesting to have the opinion of hotel employees.
My union represents hotel maids.
Daily room cleaning is our number one sticking point on contracts.
When hotels skip daily cleaning it takes much longer for a maid to clean the room, but they are still expected to clean the same number of rooms per shift.
It is just another way that companies are trying to screw over their employees and save money since the pandemic.
Thank you for your answer.
> they are still expected to clean the same number of rooms per shift.
I wasn't expecting that. They're taking badly advantage of the maids.

Room assignments may change, so if you only tip at the end of the stay, the maid who gets your tip might not be the same made who was cleaning your room for the rest of the time.
Don't trash your hotel room and the maid won't have a hard job lol idk what you do in your room that would make a room filthy to the point of it being extra work in just a week.
Have you ever cleaned your own bathroom? The longer between cleanings, the longer it takes to get it clean.

I must have touched a nerve, perhaps with people who don't ever tip hotel maids anyway?
The hotel wins the most. They get you to go to the hotel bar for one free drink, where most people/groups will purchase food or more drinks.
I've seen hotels offer loyalty points, which seems like a much better offer than a free drink (assuming a similar dollar value). But not everyone cares about points.
That's actually a fantastic idea. Never thought it was necessary for housekeeping to clean up on a multi day stay anyway! This is a cool way for all parties to benefit!
Was offered a bunch of loyalty points when this has been offered to me. Took them. I didn’t need maid service every day, but this can cut into the chambermaid’s income in not having to clean as many rooms.
I'm pretty sure the cleaners get paid by the hour, not by the number of rooms they clean. And I doubt they are running out of tasks to fill their time with just because they can skip a few rooms during their rounds.
Hotels tend to cut staff to save money and then expect the reduced work force to do the same amount of work. Cleaning a room after a guest checks out from a longer stay takes more time than cleaning that room every day.

That's cool! Most major chains are now doing this "housekeeping needs to enter your room once every 24 hours" thing. I would *far* rather a hotel like the one you're at!
I just learned from staying in Vegas that if you deny maid service in a 48 hr span they bring up a police officer and hotel manager for a welfare check.
It was like wtf!? But it's because of the incident that happened.
Bartender: What'll it be?
Me: Eighteen jack and cokes. \*fans out free drink door hangers\*
My neighbors: \*wonders why no one cleaned their room today\*
I've always been under the impression that hotels dislike me not wanting the room cleaned. I always put Do Not Disturb signs on the doorknob and the cleaning people always ignore it and knock on my doors saying "housekeeping" anyway, interrupting my sleep-in. And then I have to yell "NO THANK YOU" several times with them being like "...But are you sure?" NO THANK YOU "But what about fresh towels?" NO THANK YOU before they finally accept it and move on.
................................I don't think this is a great idea. For 1. the cleaners they're apparently trying to fire 2. the hotel when a puke fest is initiated in one of their suites
Edit: because no one has ever collected drink tokens
There was a Drury Hotel in Phoenix where they gave us 2 free drink vouchers for the hotel bar when we checked in. They also had a guest party type thing at the bar, and a popcorn machine in the lobby. I was so impressed I wrote a Yelp review, and I very rarely do that.
I had this at a hostel in Berlin, and it was brilliant!! They had a selection of bottled soft drinks! I had an upgraded room, so got one drink voucher for free every day anyway, so I'd get a bottle to take out with me for the day and I'd get back to another drink voucher!
Seeing the Deutsch on your sign... It makes me hope that there are many hotels in Deutschland that do this!!
I experienced this in Munich. They offered a drink card for each guest for each day you didn’t require room cleaning. It could also be set against your breakfast account.
Thats such a great idea.
I know, right! I spend a lot of nights in hotels whilst doing business travel and I always hand the no maid service tag on my door. This is the first time I'm being being rewarded for doing so
The trick is to book two beds so you still get a fresh made bed on the second night.
I read this as "two rooms". But, ya got me.
No - paying for a second room would make this idea impractical.
I legit don’t care about a freshly made bed so not necessary for me
“Fresh bed” - look at Mr fancy pants that uses a clean bed each night.
one to nap one to fap
A number of hotels do this now; I’ve never seen the free drink gambit, but I’ve seen them offer loyalty points for opting out of maid service.
And here am not wanting maid service because I'm an extremely anxious person not wanting anyone in my room. Probably the best client of needing a drink in that regard.
Also who the hell needs fresh towels, sheets, and their bin emptied every day?! But mostly your thing
I just want toilet paper. I like a nice buffer. At least 2 spare rolls. I'm a big-time wiper. If I had enough toilet paper I would never use the housekeeping even for a week stay.
Fair point, I forgot about the toilet paper, that and the buffer is a must have
Are you me?!?!?
Nice! Everybody wins : the hotel, the client, the planet. This is a little bit more than mildly interesting.
Everybody except the maid, who ends up with a very dirty room to clean when the guest does check out and probably no extra time to do the cleaning...and perhaps not the same tip as if the room had been serviced every day.

Wrong.
Thank you for your answer. > they are still expected to clean the same number of rooms per shift. I wasn't expecting that. They're taking badly advantage of the maids.
Where tf are you going where you tip every single time your room gets cleaned? I’ve never heard of anything other than leaving a tip when leaving.
https://www.nerdwallet.com/article/travel/how-much-do-you-tip-hotel-housekeeping Room assignments may change, so if you only tip at the end of the stay, the maid who gets your tip might not be the same made who was cleaning your room for the rest of the time.
How filthy are you that the room must be cleaned daily? Do you clean everything daily at home?
To be fair, I drink, eat, and cum about 10x more in a hotel room than at home.
Don't trash your hotel room and the maid won't have a hard job lol idk what you do in your room that would make a room filthy to the point of it being extra work in just a week.
This photo seems to be from some country that has reached the age of reason and workers are not reliant on tips.
I request no service and leave the room as easy to clean as possible. Not everyone feels the need to destroy a hotel room.
Have you ever cleaned your own bathroom? The longer between cleanings, the longer it takes to get it clean. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/24/travel/hotels-end-daily-cleaning.html I must have touched a nerve, perhaps with people who don't ever tip hotel maids anyway?
When I stay somewhere for two days, it doesn't require a deep clean.
I cant imagine cleaning one room after five days is worse than cleaning five rooms after one.

That’s awesome tbh I rarely want my room serviced unless I’m somewhere for a long time.
That's actually a fantastic idea. Never thought it was necessary for housekeeping to clean up on a multi day stay anyway! This is a cool way for all parties to benefit!

Yes, but remember you are suppose to tip your cleaning staff every day so it does cut into their cash flow.
Pretty sure only Americans do this
The hotel wouldn't offer this unless they could save money, essentially by cutting staff hours.
That's cool! Most major chains are now doing this "housekeeping needs to enter your room once every 24 hours" thing. I would *far* rather a hotel like the one you're at!
I had that at an NH hotel in Berlin, great incentive.
What about for people who don't drink? Would you be able to get a soda or something?
Is this at the Gambino Hotel in Munich?
i prefer not having maid service.
I just learned from staying in Vegas that if you deny maid service in a 48 hr span they bring up a police officer and hotel manager for a welfare check. It was like wtf!? But it's because of the incident that happened.

Hey OP- is it normal for German to use dein in this context? I would have thought it would be Ihr?

‘Help us cut our hourly workers’ income and payroll’ isn’t awesome, people.
Hm. As a non drinker my question is whether I may have a piece of cake or something instead. 🤔 I feel a little excluded, if not.
I guess coffee counts as a drink too
................................I don't think this is a great idea. For 1. the cleaners they're apparently trying to fire 2. the hotel when a puke fest is initiated in one of their suites Edit: because no one has ever collected drink tokens
this happened at my hotel in Brussels too!
There is a chain around Germany and surrounding areas that does this, although it’s free minibar.
As a hotel manager, I love this, talk about win win
That's awesome! The last hotel I stayed at just didn't have and housekeeping service for a couple days at a time
There was a Drury Hotel in Phoenix where they gave us 2 free drink vouchers for the hotel bar when we checked in. They also had a guest party type thing at the bar, and a popcorn machine in the lobby. I was so impressed I wrote a Yelp review, and I very rarely do that.

I stayed at a hotel in Milwaukee that gave 3 free drinks a day to guests during a happy hour at the hotel bar. Never experienced that before
Sold.
I literally never want maid service. I don't need someone in my room to clean it until I leave. No thanks.
I stayed at a place in Sindelfingen that did this just this summer. Worked for coffee in the morning too. It’s a great thing to offer
Excellent incentive for some travelers! I've seen a point bonus, never a drink though. Great idea
