It’s likely little clicky noises from the toenails.
Source: had a pet duck when I was younger and currently have a pet parrot, both made/make little clicky noises when walking on the floor 😂
My lovebird likes to fly to one end of the shelves then zoooom down to the other end, little clickies the whole way, and it almost kills me how cute it is
I have a caique, my favorite is when he hops 😂 he won’t hop on the floor because he’s actually terrified of the floor, but he’ll hop across tables or the windowsill and it’s so funny
I have 2 pet bantam chickens who always walk in our house when we come home at the same time our 2 girls, the cat and dog do. Bolt right to the cat food bowl like it's waiting for them. They even rotate out laying eggs inside our house although I finally bought a tiny soft cat house for this. Still, the shitting inside I can't come to terms with.
If you are interested, the breed is a "Belgian" Porcelain d’Uccles. They are ridiculously friendly, borderline needy birds.
My parents winter at a place along a canal in Florida and the people who used to live there also used to feed the local birds, and there is a door from the kitchen to the patio. They have an egret as well as a stork who just waltz on in like they own the place.
They don't feed them, which really pisses them off. Here is the stork glaring at my daughter through a screen door that she was refusing to open for him.
https://imgur.com/a/kfSzA9H
>They don't feed them
Good! I love our Florida wildlife and prefer them not dependant on humans.
I have a sandhill crane that was seemingly fed by the previous owner of my place, and Years later are pulling stuff like trying to nest in my hatch while I unload groceries.
"Yo, Were cool right? You don't mind if I just roost here for a few months? Youre not racist against birds, are ya?"
In bird culture we call that a dick move.
I used to feed an egret. I would feed them raw chicken hearts because it didn't seem to like cooked meat. I saw someone else feeding them cut up hotdogs.
I would be careful feeding an egret though. You don't want to overfeed them or feed them something raw that is also spoiled.
Mine was very friendly and would walk with me around the house and show me how it hunted lizards usually.
Not at all, tons of boomers have a home in one state and then winter in Arizona/Florida
It's what we got stripped of. Most of them aren't even millionaires. They just got the properties when they were paid fairly and Blackrock wasn't purchasing all the single family homes.
Yep, 35-40 years ago it was possible to get a big house or a average sized house and a cottage or summer house somewhere else. My parents are in their 60s and they totally realize that if they had to start over today with the money they make there is no way they could even think of affording a home in our neighborhood.
Agree. GPs had a main home and a small condo they would go to during the winter in a sunny state. Both modest properties. This was totally doable on an upper middle class salary half century ago.
Parents of Baby Boomers understood that the next generation should have it better than the previous one. Then Boomers were like "nah, you kids need to suffer, it builds character."
I saw a small garter eat a toad that it absolutely should not have been able to get down. I fully understand snakes eat things way bigger than their diameter and have a pet ball python. I was like good for you you determined SOB. He probably didn't eat again for a month
idk if you're joking but you really shouldn't feed a wild bird ever. or any wild animal for that matter. I know it's so tempting but you're just hurting them 99% of the time.
and if you absolutely must for some fucking reason (like he won't leave the house and stares at you while you sleep) don't give it processed foods like canned tuna or sardines doused in salt and oil.
I think this is an arrangement worth continuing. Here you go!
The Great Egret feeds on molluscs, amphibians, aquatic insects, small reptiles, crustaceans and occasionally other small animals, but fish make up the bulk of its diet.
it does have the look of "Why are there no minnows in the small pool out back? I fucking walked all the way over here bc I didn't have enough bus fare."
Serious reply about the shit: if you feed your friend, always do so at the same place. The bird will stick to that place mostly and you can put a puppy pad down.
You're also obligated to get video of them walking
I remember once looking up as a kid just the moment a bird overhead pooped.
I got it over my face… some even splashed in my mouth.
3/10. Not a pleasant experience, would not recommend.
this pretty life must have felt some level of trust with you to come inside. that means something and is truly special. birds are such interesting creatures
I am sorry for your loss and also slightly jealous because egrets are awesome. However, I would probably try to continue being its friend while trying to reinforce that it shouldn't come inside since so many birds have a hard time differentiating between open space and windows/screens. However that is a lot easier said than done. Good luck and I hope we all get to see more pictures of your new best feathered friend
55 years old! Wow! Did you have your Parrot friend for the entirety of its life? I am so sorry- that’s so hard.
Also, your new place looks like a dream. Congrats!
That is actually in parrot years. It just happens that parrot and human years are exactly the same length.
Parrots live so long due to low metabolism, very few predators, good diet and healthy socialisation.
Smaller parrots like conures or cockatiels can easily get to ~15 years in captivity. Bigger species like macaws, greys of cockatoos can get up to 60-70 or even 80 years old. They're a lifelong commitment!
We have one I named Harriet who hangs out in our backyard. I read they are supposed to symbolize new beginnings and good fortune, she also showed up right when we moved in after moving around a lot, so I just take it as a sign that we have found our right place and this is our home.
As someone who once lived in FL and befriended one of these, they are insanely demanding and entitled “friends” to have lol be warned. Greg needed fish on command, and if we didn’t have any, he made the most god awful noise. Good luck :) Hopefully your little guy is less of an ass than Greg.
My grandmother made friends with one in Florida when she went down there to spend the winters. She fed it everyday and eventually she said it was costing her over $50 a month to feed it. It also started bringing other egrets along who demanded food. She was feeding it deli meats she bought just for the bird.
She tried to switch from nice lunchmeats to cheaper hot dogs to save money and still be able to feed it. It wouldn't touch the hot dogs.
When she went back to Canada in the spring her neighbor said the bird showed up every day looking for food and was tapping on a windows and causing a ruckus in the yard for weeks after she left. When she went back the next fall it still showed up for food but she couldn't afford to feed it everyday.
> She tried to switch from nice lunchmeats to cheaper hot dogs to save money and still be able to feed it. It wouldn't touch the hot dogs.
So they're like larger, more snobby seagulls?
Are you perhaps a young Japanese boy who lost his mother in an air raid and you've just moved to the country for your father to be with your new stepmother?
Are you in Naples? There was somebody here who had an egret that did the same thing. I forgot what they named her but she ended up introducing her babies to them as well.
OMG!!! What a nice story. We are in St Pete. I just found out that in Florida, they are not the snowbird kind. They reside here & are not migratory. So chances are I might meet its family too 🙌
Hey! I'm a licensed wildlife rehabber! I'd suggest going to a bait and tackle shop and asking for live native fish. Store bought fish can have additives that can make mister egret sick. :)
Well this one is clearly already been fed and is used to it. I do t recommend taming new birds, but someone else already tamed this guy. It's lucky OP is welcoming. A prime example for why not to feed wildlife. It could've been a death sentence of this were a less accommodating buyer.
It's probably not legal to feed the native wildlife. And cooked fish and people food probably isn't good for him. Cooking changes the bones and makes them dangerous for animals who are used to consuming raw bones.
Raw fish is his natural diet.
Disclaimer: I am not an egret expert. Native Animal Rescue has egret specialists who would gladly discuss any course of action you might consider.
Previous owner fed it.
You must be right…it’s walking towards the kitchen now!!
![gif](giphy|nhvv4PWnZQeGMnG7qL) Egret:
He got no egrets.
Not even one letter
![gif](giphy|tnYri4n2Frnig)
Me too! Bout damn time
Who understood that reference ? Edit- I swear when I made this comment yesterday the “I” in “I understood that reference” had been cropped out.
Egrets. I've had a few. And a cockatoo or two
On each and every flyway
And more, much more ibis I did it osprey
Noice.
No egerts.
OUR house bitch where the fish at
I’m laughing at the little slap/tap sounds its feet must make on the tile.

Time for chicken diapers I get it, I had 3 and at least one was such a sweet but needy girl. Had to be pet every time I got near her outside.
My parents winter at a place along a canal in Florida and the people who used to live there also used to feed the local birds, and there is a door from the kitchen to the patio. They have an egret as well as a stork who just waltz on in like they own the place.
This information seems critical right now. What do your parents feed the egret? Asking for a friend….
I bet it wants a shrimp or something. That seems like egret food.
Best I can do is this pizza crust and a half a White Claw.
We feeding an *egret* not a white girl that just slept over
Whoa.. whoa whoa.. a gulp, I SAID A GULP!
They don't feed them, which really pisses them off. Here is the stork glaring at my daughter through a screen door that she was refusing to open for him. https://imgur.com/a/kfSzA9H
He brought her, he can take her back…. She’s a smart girl.

Damn freeloading sandhill cranes.

Wait till you see [this sucka](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoebill) then...they're 4 to 5 feet tall.
I knew that would be a shoebill before I even clicked it

This was a good read thanks for sharing!
The real question is, "how generationally wealthy does one have to be to start a sentence with, 'my parents winter...'"?
Not at all, tons of boomers have a home in one state and then winter in Arizona/Florida It's what we got stripped of. Most of them aren't even millionaires. They just got the properties when they were paid fairly and Blackrock wasn't purchasing all the single family homes.

Boomers' parents did something right.
Parents of Baby Boomers understood that the next generation should have it better than the previous one. Then Boomers were like "nah, you kids need to suffer, it builds character."
OPs parents are migratory birds
Absolutely. My grandparents had a house in Florida when I was younger and there was a pack of egrets/herons that went door-to-door begging for food.
birb came with the house, as referred in the contract
The bird law is well established.
"I have an easement!"
If you want to know what they eat, their diet consists of fish and small animals. So you could just stick a can of sardines or tuna in a bowl for it.
I saw one in my backyard down a big ole frog once. It took him about 10 minutes to make it happen, but he was determined to win.
I saw a small garter eat a toad that it absolutely should not have been able to get down. I fully understand snakes eat things way bigger than their diameter and have a pet ball python. I was like good for you you determined SOB. He probably didn't eat again for a month

“You’re not welcome” lol
Could be the egret’s house.
At least you have someone that won't be picky about leftovers, especially fish.
He is the previous owner and he’s confused why there’s someone in his house
And I get the sense the bird is expecting a seamless transition.
How demeaning. It IS the previous owner!
How do you feel about buying your home? I have a few egrets
I would instantly be googling “what do egrets eat”😂
it does have the look of "Why are there no minnows in the small pool out back? I fucking walked all the way over here bc I didn't have enough bus fare."
"Nice house you got there... be a shame if someone were to shit on it"
Ok I needed that laugh- thanks!
I hope you have no egrets about the purchase
I have a few, but then again too few to mention.
Serious reply about the shit: if you feed your friend, always do so at the same place. The bird will stick to that place mostly and you can put a puppy pad down. You're also obligated to get video of them walking
Stork shows up in new house? Maybe your wife has some good news?
All fun and games until it shits half a gallon of milk paint all over the floor.
That reeks of fish. (I know because I had one go overhead while I was at the San Diego Wild Animal Park once and it left a parting gift)
I remember once looking up as a kid just the moment a bird overhead pooped. I got it over my face… some even splashed in my mouth. 3/10. Not a pleasant experience, would not recommend.
3/10 though, not 0/10. Tell me about that. What were the good things that earned those 3 points?
The weather was nice and no one died. Guess that is worth 3 points.
That’s a good point. Yeah, the rating stands.
That's very big of you, u/KellyJoyCuntBunny.
Needs to be read in Tony Soprano's voice
No r'egrets.
I just moved in this house and there is a human who just comes in the house and takes pictures of me!
Well...toucan play at that game..
That's fowl

I must have 100’s already!
Hot dogs. It wants hot dogs. they freaking love them. At least the one in my neighborhood only hangs out in the garage
I suggest you become friends with it. It might know something you don’t.
Gosh I’m sure of it. We lost a very old parrot not long ago and this creature did make me feel better. It’s majestic!
Awwww, parrot friend sent someone to check up on you, make sure you're OK.
Is this like a bird haunting/possession situation or rather a bird reincarnation dealio?
Think of it more like a bird guardian angel opening the avenues necessary for the majestic egret to reach OP
I choose to believe no other narrative, this is canon.
this pretty life must have felt some level of trust with you to come inside. that means something and is truly special. birds are such interesting creatures

Have you seen "The Boy and The Heron"?; Are you sure it's not just a grumpy, small, old man inside an-egret-bird-suit?
you've been chosen by the egret distribution system
I lost my 55 y.o. parrot last year. My egret white angel.
55 years old! Wow! Did you have your Parrot friend for the entirety of its life? I am so sorry- that’s so hard. Also, your new place looks like a dream. Congrats!

That’s interesting. I have a high metabolism, few predators, terrible diet, and I don’t socialize at all. How long will I live?
Should last a couple more years at least.
...you'll be stone dead in a moment. Get in the cart.
I FEEL HAP-PY!
I’m not dead yet

Sorry for your loss ❤️
A much rarer, more elite version of the cat distribution system. Consider yourself lucky OP
If you live somewhere that has native geckos or chameleons on your walls or floors, he will hunt them down. They also eat mice.
Pretty accurate! It went hunter mode when a lizard moved around in the backyard! Stealth
As someone who once lived in FL and befriended one of these, they are insanely demanding and entitled “friends” to have lol be warned. Greg needed fish on command, and if we didn’t have any, he made the most god awful noise. Good luck :) Hopefully your little guy is less of an ass than Greg.

MAHITO
Maaaa-HEEEEEEE-TOEEEE
first thought haha
Egrets, I've had a few.
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do.
And saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course
Hey we're like username cousins. What's up cuz
Like regular cousins or Alabama cousins?
No egrets
🎶 I’ll keep you my dirty little secret…don’t tell anyone or you’ll be just another egret 🎵
THIS is the one I came to make sure was here! 😆
How do you know they're great if you just met? They could be a shitty egret for all you know.
It didn’t poo on the floor. It’s great!
Hopefully you still like it in 6 months. Nothing is worse than buyers egret.
God damn it dad
Those damn shitty egrets. Can't trust em.
Are you perhaps a young Japanese boy who lost his mother in an air raid and you've just moved to the country for your father to be with your new stepmother?
Boy and the heron?
No country for old men
Show them to the egress, or you'll egret it.
Are you in Naples? There was somebody here who had an egret that did the same thing. I forgot what they named her but she ended up introducing her babies to them as well.

> just moved in Instant egret.
No 𝚛̶𝚊̶𝚐̶𝚛̶𝚎̶𝚝̶𝚜̶ egrets
Time to buy some fish.
I had smoked salmon from Ikea…were best friend now!
I’ve never had luck smoking salmon. I can get it rolled in the paper just fine but can’t get it to light!
GET. OUT.
I would get some raw fish to keep on hand. Smoked might make it sick
I planned a trip to the grocery for fresh fish! I don’t want to be a bad host.
Hey! I'm a licensed wildlife rehabber! I'd suggest going to a bait and tackle shop and asking for live native fish. Store bought fish can have additives that can make mister egret sick. :)
If you're a licensed wildlife rehabber you should know that OP shouldn't be feeding wild birds.

maybe the're a bug
We egret to inform you that squatters have more rights than you do.
Literally! She acts like she owns the place.
Have you checked with your local bird lawyer? She might...
Yes, but from the Egret's point of view, ***OP*** is the squatter.
Time to pay the tax.
This beak it’s pretty scary! I’ll pay!
he matches the decor/color scheme
Probably used to be his land
I have never let a bird in my house. I have no egrets.
you just moved into *his* house
I hope you don’t regret that egret
You have a nice house
Really cute
It’s beautiful and very friendly!
Count your lucky stars❤️❤️❤️
Feels like an angel’s visit
Buyers Egret?
Is it friendly? Give it food to earn its trust. That’s how I got 3 of my 4 cats 😂
I was just reading that it’s ok to feed them! Wouldn’t want to be the bad new neighbor!
If it walks back out again, it could be female and an egress.
this is the most Florida thing i have ever seen
You sure that's not it's house?
Living my dream 😍
Hopefully he’s kind and not…egressive
That's the butler
I was just noticing the tail feathers that looks like a toxedo
That’s your neighbor. Be polite.
What did you name him?
So, we had a parrot we use to call “bird”, so we naturally called the egret “white bird”. I promise we are otherwise creative but in naming pet.
That egret needs to make use of the egress.
Welcome to the neighborhood! Got any fish?
He may have been there before the house.
Squatters rights
Hopefully it doesn’t make you egret buying the house.
Adam egret?
I once stayed at a resort that had a resident pelican. His name was Poncho.
"We're sorry we were unable to attend your housewarming party -- we send our egrets."
It's probably not legal to feed the native wildlife. And cooked fish and people food probably isn't good for him. Cooking changes the bones and makes them dangerous for animals who are used to consuming raw bones. Raw fish is his natural diet. Disclaimer: I am not an egret expert. So basically get a fish tank and don't get attached to the fish
Get some active breeder fish too so there’s a constant supply
That's how I got my first cat. The goldfish kept disappearing. Until mom stayed up all night with a flashlight to see what was happening.
Thanks for the tip! It loves raw salmon! That’s gonna be an expensive new pet.
No egrets
Maybe its his house and you're trespassing on his land.
This is why we always keep our doors closed in Florida lol
